Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Tzek again attempts to kick the goblin fair in the mouth again. And misses wildly.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Tzek charges towards the goblin hiding under the cart. If he can reach t, he will attempt to kick it.

Attack (1d20+3=20)
Damage (1d6+3=5)

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Sorry, missed this earlier, and I've been flat out recently.

Spot Check (1d20+7=19)
Initiative (1d20+2=22)

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

As the chairs are set up, Tzek keeps out of the way, and seeks a spot to stand at the back of the crowd. During the speeches stands still and silent at the back, intently paying attention.

Anyone paying attention would notice he doesn't laugh with the rest of the crowd, and its not because he doesn't get the jokes.

Yeah, hanging out with Torillan in the square.

He notices that locals tend to stare at the pair, but he tries not to feel too self-conscious. He flexes his shoulders, ensuring that the hafts of his twin short swords strapped to his back show more prominently.

"Ravenmoor eh? What's that like?"

Tzek notices the locals as well, but by now is used to, and hardly notices, their "attention." Noticing the extra attention is making Torillan uncomfortable, "Don't worry about them. I've been here for ages, and still most folks can't help but stare." raising his voice slightly "Some folks just got no manners."

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

"I'm Tzek. What sort of work you after? Yeah, at least stay or the festival, not really my scene, all this undisciplined gaiety, but the locals seem to enjoy themselves. And it keeps the riff raff out of trouble, for a while at least."

Reaching the stalls, he scans them for any vegetarian options, and chooses a couple of rather bland vegetarian kebabs.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

"What?" Tzek is a little put out, no one (except Sabyl or Madame Mvasti) ever initiates interaction with Tzek. It takes him a moment to recover before he continues. "Oh, sorry, No thanks. I don't eat meat, even if it smells that good."

We wonders off in the direction Torillan indicated, while continuing over his shoulder "Torillan you said your name was. You're new around here. Why are you here?"

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

That's fine Arctaris, take your time. Wouldn't want a pretend game with people you have never met to get in the way of real conversations with real people in the real world now would we :)

Tzek is used to people still being a little, if not scared, at least hesitant around him, and he understands he will never be asked to baby sit anyone, but he still let's out a small sigh every time it happens. Rather than get him down however, each occasion just makes him all the more determined to prove to these people once and for all that he (and therefore Half-Orcs in general) are worthy of respect.

Prompted by the magnificent aromas wafting across the town square from the various cooking stalls, he heads over in search of some tasty grub. Although he is strictly vegetarian, Tzek still admires the wonderful aromas of the various dishes, yes even those made with meat.

Sorry didn't realise the festival was an all day affair. In that case...

After leaving Madame Mvasti, Tzek is soon caught up in the revelry of the festival. Although it is all too chaotic and indulgent for his ascetic tastes, he is ware of his (growing) reputation as somewhat of a killjoy, or "wowser" and so he decides to meditate later, and instead now check out the festival to see what all the fuss is about.

Although certain it will not be his cup of tea, he none-the-less, wants to show the residents of Sandpoint he isn't opposed to fun, and does nto at all want to stop others from joining themselves.

Once at the festival, he will just wonder around, lost in his own thoughts, but at the same time, having a good look around (almost investigative style) to see exactly what is going on around the place.

Artaris, I sent you an email with some question about items from the Magic Item Compendium.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Turning to Madame Mvasti, I reply "Yes, I need some time with my own thoughts to meditate upon your words. And anyway, the festival will be starting soon, I don't want to miss it. I'll make sure to swing by the cathedral on my way home. Will you be joining in the festivities as well?"

After getting her answer, I head for a quiet spot just outside of town to meditate until the festival starts. I do make sure I am at the festival a good 20 minutes before it is scheduled to start.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

I will be either at Madame Mvashti's, or joining her on one of her many long walks across the countryside.

There is a small chance that I am at the Monastery, but it is unlikely these days.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

I started working on a method for going without Magic Items. However, it soon got very complicated, especially trying to balance it, and not really worth the effort. So I'll just not worry about that aspect, and just use magic items as normal.

So I'm ready to go when everyone else is.

Edit: Are any of our mage types capable of casting Mage Armor, or a similar spell. Those of us that don't wear armor would greatly appreciate it :)

Anyway, to get the thread back on topic, I'm in Sandpoint because it's where I live. And the rededication of the temple will be the biggest celebration of the year.

Another way to model that may be using the Legacy items rules from Weapons of Legacy. This directly addresses the "golf bag of magic swords" problem and provides a way through legacy rituals to roleplay and balance the development of greater power. Now you are still stuck with one item, but maybe it is your meditative focus: a simple wooden idol ... or a big evil-looking gemstone embedded in your forehead.

Yeah, a weapon (at least item) of Legacy could work. Sort of. The problem I find with the weapons of legacy, is that the benefits they give usually at least struggle to be worth the drawbacks, or worse, flat out aren't worth it. And come much later than just buying equivalent magic items to do the same thing. (Although this last point is no as big an issue for Tzek.)

Oh, I don't mean to be rude, but who are you? I got your first post up above, but couldn't work out who you were.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Arctaris, I have been thinking a bit more about Tzek, and he is really the sort of person who would strongly believes in relying on himself, not other people, and especially not stuff. As such, he would prefer to avoid using magic items if possible, instead preferring to improve himself through contemplation and introspection. I was trying to come up with a way to achieve this in game. I had 2 thoughts.

The first was Vow of Poverty (from BoED). However, that is an arguably broken option, especially for a monk / Druid. But I don't think it is so broken if you remove the bonus exalted feats. All it basically otherwise does is give you some AC, Save and Ability Score Bonuses. Although i understand if you still say now.

Although the other problem, is that it requires being exalted, which my character clearly isn't, and wouldn't be. But with the suggestions to power it down, it shouldn't be unbalancing at all to allow him to not be exalted.

The second option involves some info in the Magic Item Compendium. In the MIC, they break down items into "levels" (roughly equivalent to the level a PC should get their hands on the item). Basically at each level, you should have 2 items of your level, and 1 of each of the levels below that. So, at level 5, you should have 2 level 5 items, and 1 each level 4, 3,2 & 1.

The idea I had, was to instead of actually buying Magic Items, I instead (through contemplation and ritual etc), manifest the benefits of Magic Items of the appropriate level. However, as this is obviously more powerful than straight Magic items, to balance it, how about I don't get two of the highest level? So, at level 5, instead of 2 level 5 items, I would only have 1.

To give you some idea of the level of various items, I am AFB ATM, but I think from memory, a +2 Stat boost is about a level 6 item, while a +4 Stat boost is about a level 14 or so. I am ok if this costs me a feat (or two even)

Again, I understand if you don't want the added complication, but I would like to work out a way for my character not to be reliant on magic items, but able to get by with just the clothes on his back. Of the two options I presented, I think I would prefer the second.

Here is Tzek, Half-Orc Monk ready to go. Still need to finalise Background, but it will be pretty similar to what I posted in the other thread. Just need to work out the details.

He is in Sandpoint, cause that's where he lives :) Don't worry there will be a bit more details in Background.

Arctaris, are we able to use Fractional BAB from Unearthed Arcana?

Here is the Skeleton for Drannor. Still have to finalise Gear, Background etc. but the numbers should be right to go.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Moving to J3, and yelling "You're all talk Ennoch. Take this!!" I throw my Alchemists fire at Ennoch. Ranged touch attack 1d20+3=19 Hit!! For 1d6=5 damage.

Damn I am rolling well.

Here is the info for Alchemists Fire

Spoiler:
Alchemist’s Fire: You can throw a flask of alchemist’s fire as a splash weapon. Treat this attack as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 10 feet.

A direct hit deals 1d6 points of fire damage. Every creature within 5 feet of the point where the flask hits takes 1 point of fire damage from the splash. On the round following a direct hit, the target takes an additional 1d6 points of damage. If desired, the target can use a full-round action to attempt to extinguish the flames before taking this additional damage. Extinguishing the flames requires a DC 15 Reflex save. Rolling on the ground provides the target a +2 bonus on the save. Leaping into a lake or magically extinguishing the flames automatically smothers the fire.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Looks like it is time to engage the enemy in more close range combat.

I cast Mage Armor on myself (AC is now 17), and move to G7.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Reluctant to leave the cover of the sandbags, Jacyn pulls out his crossbow, and takes another shot at Camela. 1d20+3=21 HIT!! for 1d8=8 points of damage. Max Damage, Yay!

Jacyn then spends the rest of the round reloading his crossbow.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Watch out for the camel guys, it's a real threat.

I shoot Camela with my Crossbow. 1d20+3=9

Miss.

I then crouch behind the wall (while still peering just over the top to keep an eye on the battle) to gain some cover as I reload my Crossbow.

Male Half-Orc Monk 1

Assumming everyone is happy with their starting positions...

Jacyn steps forward 5 feet to C9 and cast sleep at the intersection of YZ 89, catching both Talin and Enoch in the area. DC16 Will save or fall asleep.

I've fixed the letter coodinates so the extend into the starting areas.

Updated Battle Map

Edit: Yes the sandbag walls give you cover.

I can't view the new map, but on the old map, I'll start at A13.

Initiative 1d20+7=21

I'll start at A11

It sure is interesting listening to all you guys talk yourselves up.

I think it indicates that you are lacking in certain.... departments, and perhaps over compensating.

Keep up these simple attempts to distract from your inadequacies, I will let my actions do my "smack" talking for me.

Well, Jacyn is now up and ready to go. Thanks go to Fatespinner for the excellent formatting I blatantly stole for my Profile.
