Silently the stoic elven warrior Teladon listened to Vuriel's words. Teladon knew his strengths; the accuracy of his bow, the speed of his sword and the power of his magic. He also knew his weaknesses; a cold demeanor, a silent judgement and a deep rooted standoffishness. Though Vuriel was also an elf, the Mordant Spire and Kyonin were worlds apart. Before the coming of the Second Darkness, Queen Telandia had urged her people to expand their boarders and seek out new alliances with the people of the Inner Sea. Teladon shook his head. The Mordant Spire would never embrace such beliefs. It was in so many ways a miracle that the Elder Counsel had even felt the urge to send even one of its warriors to the summit in Andor. Some had whispered it was a slap in the face. With other nations banding together and sharing resources in this dark time when the world teetered in the balance, the Spire had offered the aid of just one warrior. Was it hubris? Perhaps. But when Humans were born, grew to age and died in the blink of an eye for an elf, one had to also ask, how much was the life of a single elf worth? One warrior.. perhaps that may have been too much. Teladon could not deny that the warriors and scouts that had made up the rescue party had proven themselves worthy. At least to a greater or lesser extent. And so silently, Teladon watched and waited as the others buried Rasso deep into the snowdrifts outside of the waiting town. From somewhere a cloak of fur was produced and the Elf donned it. The wind did not bother him, nor the snow. He felt an urge to declare himself. To ride into the town on a horse of red and strike fear into the townsfolk that had turned their backs on their rightful queen. Teladon knew that was a foreign urge. It was not of him, but of the mantle. It did not put him at ease however. No, it troubled him all the more. As the snow fell about the group Teladon wrapped himself in the cloak, pulling it over his leaf inscribed mask. He knew that eventually he would have to speak to Vuriel, but not here and not now. It was something he did not look forward to.

Frowning softly, Teladon exhales into the cold air. His body seemed unnaturally hot, and the bite of the arctic wind did not trouble him as it had in the days leading up to the winter portal. Shaking off the troubling thoughts, the elf kneels in the snow next to the foreign elf. We are both insular people Vuriel. But remember that it was the Spire that took in the people of Kyonin when the second star fell. I carry a blade of my people, given to me by the Eldest Counsel. The last remaining nations of this world with the strength to fight on have called upon their strongest, most determined of warriors. Chelax, Andoran, The Mordant Spire, the Runelord and even the people of the Crown of the World. Look around you. Such a group could only be brought together by the greatest need. The Eldest Counsel saw fit to trust in this accord... Tell us what you know and be dealt with honorably. Rising, Teladon extends his hand downward towards the elf. The other remained near his blade. It was both a warning and an offer. These were dark times. And Teladon was not the young elf from five years before. Either way, he would do what was necessary. ___________________________

Stepping forward, Teladon kneeled in the snow. His wounds pained him, but he found that many of the cuts and tears from the bestial owlbear pained him farless then he had previously expected. In a way this was both comforting and deeply troubling. The changes thus far had been capricious and unsettling. Even now the elf worried that he only grasped at the faintest sense of what had been done to him. The fact that he did not feel the icy touch of snow upon his skin, and felt an anger and rage in him that he had locked away for so long, be so close to the surface scared the stoic elf. Is what I am feeling part of myself, or something from the mantle. The elf wondered. Will it change me more then it has already done, or were the changes already there and only brought to the surface. Shaking his head, Teladon sighed. I do not know. Putting for the moment the troubling questions behind him, Teladon fixated his gaze upon the supine elf. Bí ar son na síochána, deartháir. Tá an chuideachta aisteach, ach tá mé fuair iad a bheith allies fiú. Inis dom, cé tú féin agus cad a thugann tú go dtí an talamh frigid? Carefully, and cautiously for Teladon knew that darkness could lurk in the hearts of any man or beast, The masked elf nodded to the gathered group. These ones know me by my first name. It is Teladon. They have earned a measure of my respect. But I warn you, Vuriel.. we are hard men and women far from home and trust does not come easily. Perhaps however, if you told us your story, we might offer one in trade. Elven: Be at peace, brother. The company is strange, but I have found them to be worthy allies. Tell me, who are you and what brings you to this frigid land?

Staring down at the unconscious figure of the elf, Teladon studies the man. Once we were each like a leave of a tree, and each tree one of a forest. Now.. now we are like the last handful remaining on the wind. The elf things, watching the other man breath in and out softly. As if in response to his though another leave falls from the elf's cloak and swirls around him before being caught in the wind and carried off into the darkness. Sighing, Teladon begins to let his shoulders slump, before straightening his back and standing tall. The elf lives. He was attacked by our foes. The enemy of our enemy. As they say. Glancing towards the other man who rode an owlbear, Teladons lip turns downwards in distaste. We need information. This one likely possesses it. We take what we need and leave him to the ravens. Crossing his arms in finality, Teladon feels a surge inside of himself. It is not of him but it resides inside of him. It is.. pleasure... Scowling a puff of air streams from the elfs mask. He took no pleasure at the kill. But In the last hour he had felt things.. strange things enwrap and enfold him. He shuttered. It felt alien and cold. Like a second unspoken mind. There was power there, surging and flooding, but Teladon knew that no power was freely given. Everything had a price.

Landing in a blossom of snow, Teladon is momentarily stunned when the Owlbears claws fail to find purchase though the elf's skin. The jagged claws looked wickedly sharp and had torn through his mail, like a hot knife through churned butter, but they had failed to even nick his skin despite the pressure the elven warrior had felt as they scrapped along his ribs. Shaking his head in disbelief, all further concerns about unexpected attack fled from his mind as the mighty beast latched powerful arms around him and dragged him into a ferocious embrace. Roaring in a bestial power from deep inside of himself, Teladon felt a jolt run through him. Insignificant creature! Feel the strength of summer! Teladon roared, before breaking the lock with a powerful smash of his arms and pummeling the creature to the ground in an overwhelming display of strength. Landing atop of the owlbear, Teladon's eyes grew wide behind his mask. What is this I am feeling inside of myself? What bonds did the Witch Queen tie to me? Well my friends... I am going away on business. I won't be able to access the pazio forums for a while. Rob is going to send me updates via e-mail and we will try to see if I can incorporate my posts via e-mail for the time being being. I won't be able to play off of you much, but hopefully I can still contribute. If things don't workout via e-mail then Rob will DMNPC me. I'll check in when I can. -Teladon

Sorry Rob, getting ready for my trip. Wife has has me doing a ton around the house and I have been neglecting the forums. Teladon will go with: Magic Inheritance: A long-dormant source of eldritch power has found itself awakened in you. Be it from a distant ancestor or a gift from a divine patron, this power feels intuitive and natural to use.
I will choose Shocking Grasp. I do have a question though, can I use metamagic with it, since I have the trait that allows me to apply a metamagic level of 1 that does not increase the overall spell level? Also do you have a problem with this version of Shocking Grasp being used via spellstrike?

Now or Never | Round 1 | Initiative 14 | Music Set to Scene The air gusted around the strike team made up from the best that all of the world could still provide. Ahead of them riders mounted atop beasts that were amalgamations of owl and bear hooted and squawked in animistic fury. Taking a step in the snow, Teladon's snowshoe sunk down in the white thick powder, the elf grimaced. He would know who this elf was that was so far from home, standing his ground against the riders. The wind gusted hard against his cloak, and Teladon became wrapped in a whirling nimbus of orange, yellow and red leaves. Bring fear to the hearts of men, my champion.. let them them be reminded why the dark places of the night are still feared. Be my herald and let none stand before you. The hour approaches.. DO NOT BE FOUND WANTING! An ancient voice cawed out to him from the dark place in his own heart. It was the same place that carried with it the onus of responsibility to whatever power had so recently claimed him. Touching that part inside of himself, Teladon drew his blade forth in one hand. The black scimitar FLARED into a life of its own. Color the hue of a bloody sunset arched around his blade, hissing and sputtering. Pushing himself though the snow the blades radiance grew brighter and brighter as he pushed his way towards the owlbear's. It sang to him, cried to him, begged him to sound the horn and call the hunt. He was the stag and the forest was his domain. Gathering his will, a wellspring of joy, anger, pain and pure unbridled life flooded though him from the part of himself that was not his own. Gathering the power and energy, the wind sucked in towards him. He placed his right hand on the ground and squatted before EXPLODING upward into the air with a furious yell. Sailing like a leaf upon the wind, Teladon jumped thirty five feet toward the southern most owlbear. The blade in his hand contained to pulse with light, growing brighter and brighter. Leaping over the snow in an arc nearly ten feet high, Teladon roared in power and fury as he landed behind the owlbear. THE HOUR APPROACHES... AND YOU SERVE THE WRONG QUEEN! ___________________________________
So I know this is a huge waste of Mythic points, but why not do something in style. I feel like being a bit cinematic!

Straining his ears above the sound of the howling wind, Teladon listens for the tell-tell sounds of battle, but is unable to make anything out beyond the mournful gusts. Trusting his instincts, the elf, nods towards Ordrud before drawing his sword and dashing after him into the snowy expanse.

Standing just beyond the ring of icy pillars, Teladon stood straight backed and silent. His cloak of leaves fluttered in the wind, drawing off autumn beech, dogwood and maple leafs, spinning them away from the elf and towards the portal like bits of a crimson dandelion seeds being blow away in a turbulent wind. The air felt mournful here, snow and rock covered the ground for as far as the eye could see in the darkened light of the portal. Teladon took a single deep breath and breathed out. Both odd and troubling was the fact that no puff of hot steam slipped though his mask and more-so when he breathed in, he did not feel the sharp sting of cold air against his throat. Sighing, the elf resisted the urge to shake his head. The mantle seemed to have affected each member of the group differently and Teladon was still adapting to the changes... whatever they were. Glancing back, the magus watched as Rasso shook himself like a dog, or perhaps a bear awaking from a long hibernation. I'm fine. The elf said quietly. As fine as I can be at least, after reliving the death of my brother. Turning back towards the desolate, snow blown landscape, Teladon waved his hand. What do I see? I see a killer all around us. It stalked us at first. Once I could feel its shivers down my back... now, I'm not sure. Letting the words hang in the silence, the elf kneels and taking off a glove runs his delicate fingers though the snow. He lets the fine powder run though his fingers. It does not feel cold. Before you know it, you wake up and it is there. Coldly killing all life it surrounds. Winter, Rasso, I see a land crushed by winter. Standing up the elf tugged on a leaf tooled glove. And more importantly, I learned that in the depth of winter there lay within me an invincible summer.

Rob, out of curiosity can we get a list of any gear that might have been found at or near the winter portal? Not that I am complaining (what with being mythic, but if there was anything there, it would be nice to know about for the group.)

Silently standing as snow gusted around him the elf... glanced down at his sword as it sizzled in the freezing cold wind. Snowflakes fell around him but the elf did not feel its icy chill. Snow melted away from his armor and his body felt hot... hotter than it had since the party had left the Red Wraith. Teladon felt the sudden mercurial urge to laugh. The urge came from a strange place, an untouched place. It felt wild and untamed. It called to him to sound the horn and call the hunt. To drive his foes before him, to breath in their fear.. to leave a bloody wake behind him so all that would know him. Shaking his head, the elf tried to center himself. To remember the stoic strength and ironhard discipline that he had forced upon himself since his brothers death. The two sides warred inside of him. One side freedom, the other control. One side life... one death. The others from the group clustered around him. It had been several moments since Rasso and Ordrud had asked about him. The elf closed his eyes, flicked his blade around and slid it into its scabbard. The heat retreated. I'm fine. Teladon opened his mouth to say.. but the words would not come. No... there was a second set of words... words that he would be known by. Words that needed to be spoken. With the death of one, came the life of another. Teladon was not sure how he knew such things, but the truth was like stone in his mind. Both solid and weighty. Glancing at Rasso, Teladon nodded. “The hour approaches. See that you are not found idle.” Teladon announced, his voice echoing along the ruins, as he felt a shutter run though him and he barely stopped himself from falling to a knee. Steeling himself, Teladon nodded. The queen has made her will known and the winter portal awaits. Walking forward, The elf approached the whirling portal of snow and ice. Glancing back to the rest of the group, Teladon nodded firmly. And my name is Teladon. Teladon announced with finality before stepping through the portal.

@Sty: Honestly man, I see your character as a Marshal for the simple fact your character has been played as the leader of the group since we started. Being able to give commands makes sense. Dual path is a possible route, and if you did choose to, I would go with Champion. As far as a character class rebuild goes... well that's a tough call. I could see Sty as a paladin, really I could. I think if the Brawler class got improved it would also be a good route to go.

Yea, If I did it over, I had this idea for an old, grizzled Aasimar who was born to a prominent Mendev family, but quickly became jaded in his youth as people began to look to him for leadership, much like they had his father. Rather than following in his fathers footsteps, the man chose to life a life of the meak tired man, running from his destiny. Laughter rings outward from around the snowy portal. The cackle of an ancient woman. Blood falls to the snow. Come to her banner. Rolling on the ground, blackened claws of umbral shadow tear into Teladon. The elf screams in pain, shaking his head back and forth with such intensity as his mask falls to to the snow with a muted thud. He nearly blacks out from the overwhelming power. It fills him and binds him, seeking something out from within him. Breathe the sun and sky Eyes rolling into the back of his head, Teladon's back arches up near to breaking. He tries to scream but the pain is unbearable and he cannot breath. He feels the claws tearing at his heart... seeking and molding him. Shaping and changing, discarding that which was not needed and heightening that which was. Kneel, take a vow From above long dead leaves begin to fall from the ice rimed trees. The wind gusts and howls, as the ancient maple trees locked for so long in a wintery embrace shed their leaves for a final time. Spinning and whirling through the winter wind, they fall to the ground around Teladon, burying him with their weight. To die, if she commands it. Lost in his pain Teladon is never able to see the pale ray of sunlight breaks through the clouds and darkness. It is something that should not exist and yet it does. The ray of light carries with it heat, but no succor. It is the last ray of a setting sun.
Shaking his head back and forth, Teladon felt tears running down his face. It was like watching himself die, seeing that mirror reflection in front of him, gasping to the last fading strings of life. No.. don't go Arylon, you'll be alright, just hang on. Smiling softly and gazing outward to something that only he could see, Arylon raised a hand and placed it waveringly on his brothers shoulder. Twin-soul, be at peace.. I hear the chimes of Yuelral and the call to hunt with Ketephys. Eyes fluttering, Arylon looked up into Teladons eyes. Give my love to Es'shandra and Varyon.. it is my time to move on. Breathing in and out slowly Arylons chest rose and fell, then rose again and fell... before stopping. You could have saved him, mortal... if only you were stronger. Whispered an old woman's voice that sounded like dry dust in an empty room. Many have worn the mantle. Some have chosen it, others have had it chosen for them. But all have known LOSS.
A single autumn maple leaf was clutched in his fist. Grabbing his mask from the snow, Teladon held it up so that he could see his reflection in the polished steel. His white fox fur cloak now resembled a living cloak of leaves that moved ever so slightly in the wind. The wind picked up and another leaf shed itself from the cloak before falling to the snow and withering away. Upon the elf's face he also wore a mask but rather than steel it was comprised of hundreds of red, yellow and orange leaves, no bigger than the elfs thumb. His armor too had been changed. It felt the same, it weighed the same, but it appeared to be weaved together from more leaves and thin strips of hemlock and tamarack. The only thing that remained the same was Teladon's sword. Black as night, and seeming to draw in light, the elf reached for it heasantly. As he did so, the snow and ice around him began to rapidly thaw and melt, turning to water and then steam. Where as before the elf had been standing atop snow, now flash frozen grass began to melt and burst forth around the blade. Holding the sword in a white knuckled grip, Teladon felt his body shake as his mind reeled in uncertainty. What... what by all the gods just happened? The elf asked himself trying to understand. From somewhere deep within him he knew what he was supposed to say next. “The hour approaches. See that you are not found idle.” The wind gusted again and pale light streamed from the winter portal and above the howling of the snow the elf heard an ancient crone cackle one final time.

Excellent! I recognize that resembleing the red rider and have a fey member of the group is going to put a spin on things, plus once word spreads that a new rider is around I can only imange the havoc it is going to cause. I already have some cool visuals lined up. It would be purely cinimatic in nature, but I want to make Teladons armor, cloak and mask appear to be made from red autumn leaves that occasionally fall off and rebloom. His greaves will appear to look like cloven hooves, though no actual change will occur. Via the Thawing weapon from mythic arcane strike he will thaw ice in his immediate vicinity, but it will have no long term impact, kinda like how rand influences nature around him in the last wheel of time book.

@Rob: So Rob, I know you said no knew races, but that new feats, traits, skills and ability scores can be changed. Here is what I want to do, and this is why. I want to slightly modify Teladon, to remain an elf, but something *more* based on his partial assumption of the Riders Mantle. While I know that Mythic status is clearly part of the mantle I want to go slightly more cinematic in my styling. That is why I want to base Teladon on taking on more of a visual appearance of Baba Yaga's Red Rider. Reading the entry, it is said that the Red Rider wields a flaming scimitar and is the most fiery and aggressive of the Three Riders, I want to play that up. So here is what I suggest, and let me know what you think: Custom Race: Type: Fey (2 RP) and Humanoid (Elf) (0 RP) (As is, the Fey subtype gives me nothing that an elf could not already have (i.e. Lowlight Vision) Size Quality: Medium (0 RP) (no change there) Base Speed Quality: Normal Speed (0 RP) (again, no change) Ability Score Modifier Quality: Standard (0 RP) (no change, would remain +2 Int, +2 Dex, -2 Con) Language Quality: Standard (0 RP) (Same languages as before since Teladon can already speak Sylvan) Racial Traits: Energy Resistance (Cold) (1RP): (Resistance 5 Cold) (Elfs can already select this via Elemental Resistance alternate elf trait) Fey Damage Resistance: (3 RP) (DR 5/Cold Iron) (This is a new one, but I think fitting and inline with assuming the mantle.) Skill Bonus (Perception) (2 RP): (Again a trait that I already possess.) Elven Magic (3 RP): (+2 bonus on caster level checks made to overcome spell resistance. In addition, they also receive a +2 racial bonus on Spellcraft checks made to identify the properties of magic items.) (Something I already possess) This would bring my total Race Points to: 11. Elves are currently at 10, so I could try to shave something off. What I would be losing out on is trading away my Elven Immunities: (immune to magic sleep effects and gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.) and Elven Weapon Prof (largely useless for me). For a DR of 5/Cold Iron. Also, I figure Teladon would look something like this: New Image of Teladon (Except I figure I might keep the mask.. or I might lose it as part of my "development") Also, though my Archmage mythic path I will be able to summon a red-gold stallion via Mount and the flaming scimitar will be made via my Mythic Arcane Strike. So what do you think?

I was planning to go the disable device route, but I think I will pass now. My perception however is going to be very nice and I'm going to up my stealth. I feel like Teladon will be a good assist to whoever is the main scout.

I have been doing some thinking and after a lot of consideration I have decided on the Route that I am going to choose. Teladon is going to go Champion and Archmage via: Dual Path (Mythic). My Champion Ability will be Fleet Charge (Ex) and my Archmage Ability will be Wild Arcana (Su). My 1st-Tier Universal Path Ability will be Extra Mythic Feat (Ex) and I will be taking Arcane Strike (Mythic). Rob, I'm planning to take Legendary Item as my level 3 mythic feat. As you said, there is a ton of synergy there, but It doesn't make sense to use a feat at level 1 to only gain one ability, when my sword will be intelligent, telepathic and unbreakable to begin with. Rather, I think that I will instead continue to let my bond grow. I'm going to write up a scene when I awaken the blade for the first time from the components that I have gathered and play up that angle so eventually, when I do take Legendary Weapon at Tier 3 my sword has built more of a storyline and it seems to flow better. I will tell you however, that I do plan to take it all the way up to an Artifact. Finally on the issue of Arcane Strike (Mythic). After reading it, I don't see anything that would not allow me to stack the ability from Arcane Strike with my Arcane Pool. Do you disagree? |
