I need to lose this rope and avoid getting injured any further!

Tat takes his time to carefully attack the rope with his produced flame. 7 fire damage
If I wanted to fight defensively to get a +2 dodge bonus to AC, would I have to make an attack roll or would it still be an automatic hit (see quotes below)?

I'll burn away the rope!

Tat concentrates really hard and tries to produce a flame in his empty hand while being entangled and also trying to avoid being attacked.

No, that won't do. I'll use my boardgame reroll:

Concentration to cast defensively: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 (vs. DC 17)

Fire damage (doesn't harm Tat) to the rope: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 1 = 7

@GM: When will this fire damage happen? Instantly? Or do I have to wait a round?
Also, I'd like to make a 5-foot-step into the square right behind Khon'Ur (as indicated on the map) - is that possible?

Questions:

If Tat activates his Spell-Like Ability Produce Flame (CL3), can he use the flame to deal fire damage to the rope?
1d6+3 damage would be enough to destroy it regardless if it's a Hemp Rope (2 hp) or a Silk Rope (4 hp).

A Spell-Like Ability is also NOT a spell (see definitions below) and therefore not subject to a concentration check, right?

If it's Animate Rope the rope needs to be thrown at Tat - a ranged touch attack roll (range increment 10 feet).

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately - as he's a sorcerer built for blasting - Tat doesn't know the grease spell. I think I have to go shopping for some scrolls right after we (hopefully) survive this level...

Enemy and prone allies are still considered occupying the same 5x5x5 3D square, and unfortunately you can't affect a square partially in Pathfinder. It's either all or nothing.

OK, if these are the rules, I will abide by them:

I choose a grid intersection 5 feet above the ground. (I changed the cone direction on the map)
Humans (the Splinters are human, right?) are usually more than 5 foot tall, so their heads are located partly inside the 5 foot cube above the ground and therefore should be engulfed in the flames.
(Of course you can roll the height for each female human and see who is small enough to not be affected. Just add one inch for their boots, please.)
I illustrated it on a new slide 10 - it shows elevation, not the floor plan.
(I used a copy of slide 2 because the room has a nice grid as background and it was quickly available.)

@GM: Is it allowed to aim a cone spell in a way that prone people do not get hurt? I see no reason why it shouldn't be possible to aim it slightly upwards that the cone doesn't reach anything below the kneecaps... If yes, Tat will show the enemies what it means to be hot-headed!

Tat - seeing his fellow pathfinders fall - moves a bit forward. He casts another spell while holding his hands at a slight angle upwards in order to have the resulting cone of fire shooting from his fingertips not touch his prone comrades (but still engulf all enemies).

After seeing flashes of light and hearing dropped items and also bodies, Tat runs around the corner again. He quickly analyzes the new situation and casts a spell himself. magic missile at Tarrin

Also, I'd like to hold Tat's standard action until I know more about the Iron Cobra. (If it is immune to magic, it's very likely that Tat will use it to retreat strategically move to the back of the group.)

As Long Strider is a personal spell, its target is the one holding the wand. Tat can certainly try (UMD+11) to cast it (actually, it would be great for him to have a speed of 30 feet instead of 20 feet), but that does not help you...

A physically weak looking gnome with white hair sits cross-legged on a chair. He is wearing just a haramaki for armor and a spell component pouch - showing that he probably is some king of magic user. On his purple skin there are prominent tattoos. Many look like strange patterns, but the one on his left leg shows a tiny scorpion.

The gnome introduces himself to the newly arrived pathfinders: "My name is Tat, Tat Gnosor - and I like fire."
He smiles and winks. "I can make things go BOOM!" Now the smile looks more like a maniac grin...

Tat is a (mostly) blaster sorcerer 3 who specializes in evocation and fire spells.
Example: His current burning hands deal 5d4+5 points of fire damage plus 1 point of force damage... ;-)
