The ratfolk have kind of monopolized Tarnagius' surprise at hybrid-ness for now, and he just killed his grandparents and made himself a thrall to Abadar. He has other things on the brain.

Tarnagius lays against the wall of the pit, muttering to himself about having to be saved by walking rat-creatures way too many times lately.

"Oh ok then. Guess you'll fit right in. Are Rexus and I the only actual humans in this revolution any more? Because it's starting to look like a circus."

Tarnagius blinks a few times, nods, and doesn't say anything. Oftentimes, outsiders just mean trouble.

Even cantankerous Tarnagius starts to pray, not knowing anything else he can do.

"Abadar, not sure why you'd listen to me, but there's a person here who needs help. He's a man who seeks justice and who identifies those who cause others harm, aims I think you'd agree with. I've parleyed with your priests to save a companion before, but there doesn't seem time for that now. If you want him to continue to root out corruption and violence here in Kintargo, gods know there's enough of it, he needs you now."

"Poisoned. Antivenom? Magic?"

I have neither healing skill nor gods. Rexandi?

Don't magic weapons resize themselves?

Tarnagius is quite adapted to having rats come save his bacon by now, so instead focuses on the snake rather than wondering where the newcomer came from.

Tarnagius leaps onto the serpent's back and begins bludgeoning it.

As the muscle, Tarnagius would probably be the one holding Ederion's rope.

Tarnagius immediately begins attempting to extract Ederion from the pit.

Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 unfortunately, pulling a rope one-handed proves difficult.

Full House was just the most recent thing that aired on TV that I know of that was actually shot in San Francisco. It's obscenely popular in Asia so I figured it might have other international appeal.

Food isn't that bad most of the time, vegetables are pretty cheap in season, and the further south you go the less the season even matters because shipping stuff up from Mexico is stupid cheap.

It's expensive because by American standards it's a shockingly progressive state in terms of economics, the job market is pretty good in most of the places anyone from outside the state has ever heard of, and the quality of life is usually pretty good. The problem is everyone and their mother knows that so it's a bit of a fight to get any of that once you get here. There's also some of the best farmland in the world going right down the middle of the state, so basically if you can make it here life is really really good but if you can't life really really sucks. I was born in northern California and unless I get a really good job offer back in Japan, I doubt I'd ever want to live anywhere else.

Funny you mention NASA in Texas, the reason why you hear astronauts in movies mention "Houston" all the time is because the space shuttle command in the 60s was in Houston, Texas, though the actual headquarters for most federal agencies is in Washington.

Sacramento isn't really THAT bad, it's just kind of inconvenient, but it was where all the gold in the mountains to the east (what Rexandi said about desert in California was only half true. The northern part of the state has the not-so-tall-but-very-cold Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the foothills which are mostly thick pine forests. Fun Fact: California is the only state in the union to have every type of climate except tundra within its borders) was shipped through to get to the ships in the bay area to send back east so it made sense as a capital at the time. LA has only become the monstrous, bloated city it is because it's in the middle of the desert and movie studios could make gigantic sets since nobody was using the land so Hollywood happened. That's also why Disneyland is in nearby Anaheim.

As or weather, San Francisco itself is on a tiny, tiny, tiny peninsula (another reason for the housing market to be TERRIBLE, there's no more room anywhere) and the water around it is pretty cold. This all means that the fish selection is pretty limited and the weather is pretty much constantly 65-75 Fahrenheit (so like 18-24 celsius) all year round.

San Francisco being as cosmopolitan as it is, ethnic food is always super easy to come by and the fusion food market is booming too (Korean tacos! Mexican Ramen! Russian burgers! That kind of thing). I love it there but it was just too expensive and the cheapest places can get pretty sketchy or are ethnic neighborhoods with very very strong protection against other people moving in. It's great that they want to protect historic neighborhoods from gentrification but it does stagnate the housing market even more. If you've ever watched Full House that house they live in was about 10 blocks from where I was born and could probably sell for 4-6 million. My parents lived in an "apartment" that was really a corner of a living room and a large closet and probably paid like $1000 a month in rent in the early 90s.

As for seafood, the cheap stuff isn't that good and the good stuff isn't cheap. If you want to San Francisco foodie, you need to spend a lot of money or find a local who really really loves you, and then spend all day walking around.

Time for good old Chelaxian racism to make this complex character moment simple.

"No he's not your son. You might have been his mother once, but now you're just a disgusting corpse that doesn't know it's dead yet. My father would be as revolted by you and your participation in these hideous acts here as he was with me coming back from Egorian not in service to our Lord-Mayor anymore. Immigration into the US on the west coast all used to go through San Francisco, because back in those days LA was a small town with a church and the San Francisco bay was the best port on the coast. New York served a similar purpose. Because of that, Asian immigrants of all types came through and settled in the bay area, slowly spreading out from there just like European and African immigrants spread out from New York. There was a huge famine in China right during the middle of the California gold rush so huge amounts of Chinese people moved to California during the mid-to-late 1800s spreading from San Francisco, and later Japanese immigrants during the great upheaval that led Japan from the end of the Samurai era to the imperial Japan of world war 2 all came through San Francisco and mostly stayed in the area as well. San Francisco has by area the largest Japantown in the USA, I think, though the one in LA might have more people. It used to be even bigger but during world war two lots of Japanese-Americans were picked up and put into what were basically concentration camps and large numbers of Japanese-American families lost their homes as they were torn down and used to house black laborers for the shipping industry. Anyway, San Francisco has always had this air of exotic foriegn-ness.

That was only made stronger by the fact that that's where all the ships for world war 2 were built and that's where all the fighters in the Pacific theater, as well as the wars in Korea and Vietnam, shipped out from if they weren't shipped from there to Hawaii and then shipped out, and they brought back their foreign wives and girlfriends who brought other relatives blah blah blah Asians everywhere in California. It's actually the only state besides Texas I can reliably assume Japanese people know by name, mostly because of Hollywood but also because there are just a ton of Japanese people here.

Yeah my dad is from Calgary and still has a bunch of family out in Alberta, BC and the Northwest Territories, so I actually understand Canadian Redneck pretty well. I'm from San Francisco, so the schooling here is a bit more cosmopolitan than a lot of places in the states. You can find Charter schools (not sure if you have those up in the great white north, they're basically private schools that get public school funds by proving that they serve niche communities that standard public schools don't and are very controversial) that teach bilingual education in seemingly almost any language on the planet.

I've seen: Spanish, French, Chinese, German, Italian, Tagalog, Japanese, Vietnamese and probably a few others I just can't think of right now. I personally went to a school where we learned Spanish and German from Kindergarten until 8th grade when we'd graduate and get to go to a high school. The local public high school I went to my first two years had Spanish German and French. I got into a special early college program that allowed me to take college classes for free simultaneously and the local college had classes in Japanese, Italian, and American Sign Language as well. I took Japanese, my younger sister took ASL, but is now living in Montreal majoring in French. I have a friend from Sacramento who went to a school that also offered Japanese and Chinese and Russian as well as the standard language options.

As for the languages people actually use here in San Francisco, official city announcements are in English, Spanish, Chinese and Tagalog at the very least. Sometimes you'll see Japanese and what I think is Vietnamese as well, but that's less common. You walk the streets and you'll hear mostly English and Spanish but go to the right neighborhood and people will be speaking almost any language you'll hear anywhere else.

It's hard to concentrate for very long, sometimes I make grammar mistakes when I'm speaking because it just kind of slips, and sometimes my head just feels foggy like I haven't slept in a long time. I just thought I was better than everyone else and that doing homework was beneath me because I could just show up, pay attention in class, and get an A on the next test so homework just felt unnecessary and petty to me. It took until my junior year of high school for me to learn to just shut the hell up and do it anyway because whether it's fair or not these teachers can still f@+* me over if I don't play their little games and refusing to do s+&% was only hurting me. I stopped getting in fights and stuff when I was in 8th grade, which is good because I probably would have been sent to a continuation school or a group home like the one I work at now.

Doing ok, minor concussion, some glue to hold the pieces of my ear together and a lot of spite.

I started like most 20-somethings with 3.5, didn't like 4th except that it made martial characters slightly less boring to play with all those special moves and stuff and 5th is all right, but it's the simplest so that's what I play at work, when I get to instead of chasing kids around the woods and getting beaned with rocks or sticks. Almost all the staff I work with including myself had some serious issues growing up (for me it was underperforming ins school and a very bad temper) so we're more patient than most because we've been there ourselves.
