I think Tarnagius would be very upset if you did the first step as a take 10, but I think the second step should be fine.
Rexandi Vatia |
Rexi carefully examines Tarn's hand to see where exactly the fractures are. Then she pauses and murmurs a few arcane words for guidance.
Heal, healer's kit bonus, guidance: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 18
She feels out the places where the bones are bent and says, "Ready? One..."
CRACK
Heal, healer's kit bonus, guidance: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 17
Quickly moving the finger bones back into position, she binds them, then casts a minor healing spell to speed the healing process.
Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
"Incidentally," she says, slightly pouty, "that comment you made about me not having room to talk because I was born with fiend-blood was really hurtful."
Aster Cobblestone |
Aster was about to commend Rexandi on her excellent skills as a healer, when the young woman makes her comment to the warrior. Instead she pats her on the back, gives a brief smile and leaves those two to work things out on their own.
DM Hell's Fox |
Tarnagius is now on the mend, but he won't be able to use his hand until the -2 dex penalty is dealt with. Think of it as horrendous inflammation. Two nights of normal rest, or one night while someone provides long-term care, will get him back on his... I mean will give him a hand.
By the time Rexandi is done treating Tarnagius, the wall of fire has dissipated.
Tarnagius Vashnarstill |
Tarnagius grunts loudly as his fingers are reset in proper alignment and almost immediately shoves his hand under his arm in pain.
"Gods dammit. Wait, what? Oh that."
She probably wants me to apologize, from her tone. It's not like I was wrong but whatever, she didn't set my fingers backward, so I'll give her what she wants.
"Right, as much as I would like to claim that my mind wasn't my own and I was just saying whatever she made me say, it wasn't quite that way. I'm not sure what my apologies are worth but I am sorry I hurt you."
Tarnagius Vashnarstill |
"It's like being an adolescent. 'This is foolish, I know it's foolish, but she's beautiful so I'm going to do it anyway'. I'd imagine my mouth got ahead of my brain the way it did at that age as well. As for locking you up, I've actually done some pretty reprehensible things in my day, so if bloodlines are all it takes to make you need to be locked up I'd have been in chains ages ago. Besides, this is Cheliax, you're not the first tiefling I've known."
Rexandi Vatia |
Rexi sighs. "So 'it's all right, I have some tiefling friends.'" She shakes her head. "Whatever... I'm worried for the people above who are going to become her prey now! She drained the very souls out of those victims whose bones we found and consumed them. No afterlife, no final reward, just complete oblivion! That's the worst kind of 'sucking off.'"
"Let's get on with finding these people and get out of here," she says. Her brows are furrowed, her forehead dimpled; even the emotionally stunted can tell that she's in a funk.
DM Hell's Fox |
Moving on. Good work Rexandi and Tarnagius. I hope that relationship develops further.
Once Ederion feels like the rest of the group is set, he sneaks a bit further. To his left he sees the entrance to a room with chains bolted to the wall, but he will have to get closer for a better look. Down the hall to his right lies a ten-foot pit without guard rails. Beyond it, a tightly-knit set of prison bars blocks a room beyond. There's a symbol on the front and center, an armoured fish in front of a trident.
Ederion's keen sight also spies some hidden levers on the walls. On on his side of the pit, and one on the other.
Rexandi Vatia |
Assuming we eventually follow Ederion after he returns from scouting
Rexi keeps her arms folded under her cloak as the team pauses at the next area. She's clearly a bit put off still. Her tail swishes angrily back and forth for several minutes.
She glances at the fish-statue, somewhat intrigued, but she doesn't say anything. Her dark-piercing eyes flicker back and forth.
Aster Cobblestone |
knowledge religion?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 to see if the symbol is religious in nature.
Aster, as always, moves slowly toward the others, staying mostly toward the back. She'll also keep an eye out for any additional dangers.
darkvision
DM Hell's Fox |
Aster doesn't really find a good answer. Her best guess would be a symbol of Gozreh (God of wind and waves), perhaps a militant sect of ocean dwellers? She's never seen a symbol like that before.
For clarification, the symbol is not a statue, it's part of the prison-like bars behind it.
DM Hell's Fox |
Bazzle begins to search the nearby room and immediately discovers a door on this side of the wall that wasn't apparent in the room it opens up to. A secret door. He also finds a selection of handcuffs, wall rings, chains, whips, and sex toys. One of the shackles is spiked and glows a menacing red. He also finds a skimpy outfit of yellow and black designed for a slim woman, and elegant yellow sleeves that are not attached to anything.
Bazzle Blast-hazard |
"So ahh . . . one of these shackles is glowing red. So it might be a 'MAGIC' Sex Dungeon." He looks up a little uncomfortable. "Ew." He holds up the yellow and black outfit. "Anyone need used lingere."
He moves over to the wall and looks at it a moment running his fingers over the seem and checks if there are any traps.
After a moment he says absently to the others "When you all are done fondling the sex toys. I found a secret door." He smiles after a few seconds ending his deadpan delivery.
DM Hell's Fox |
- The skimpy outfit is technically a Cassock of the Clergy. A magical vestment for those who venerate the Goddess Calistria. Those who wear it gain improved skill at socializing with their peers. If the wearer venerates Calistria, they can also cast Bless and Sanctuary, and an Orison of their choice.
- The sleeves are a magical item called Sleeves of Many Garments. They allow the wearer to alter their clothing as if by an illusion spell.
- The shackles are very difficult to escape from. They also grant the key holder the innate ability to intimidate the captive, and can even cast the Command spell on it multiple times per day.
The secret door opens up to one of the bedrooms in the first area. They are expertly made, and exceedingly difficult to perceive if no one knows what to look for.
Aster Cobblestone |
Excellent work, Bazzle! Aster commends the gnome, while trying not to look at the various tools and toys. It is a little too early after the magical lust she had been subjected to. I am more than a little frightened to think the children might have been taken through here.
Tarnagius Vashnarstill |
Tarnagius grimaces and forces himself to think hard about the situation at hand.
"So if we're in a magical sex dungeon, whoever built it has to have been able to not only subdue that thing back there but also... 'withstand' it or else their actions make no sense. Given how it complained of being left here for ages it seems like they aren't here anymore, but these things all appear relatively new, so they're probably magical. We should at the very least try to find out if they're dangerous." He looks to Rexandi, Kethaera, and Aster "Which means one of you since none of us can do anything with magic."
Aster Cobblestone |
"Me? Um..." Aster looks a little shocked as Tarnagius looks her way, shocked then embarrassed. "My magic is more instinctive. It comes from being touched a bit by a divine ideal instead of praying or studying old books. So... the actual understanding of others spells or items are... well... I have no idea, is what I mean." she sighs and shrugs her shoulders. "Even if it wasn't sex toy magic."
aka she doesn't have spellcraft.
Ederion |
Ederion simply cannot shake away the image of the Xyl wearing the yellow an black outfit, and he revels in it for a few seconds - ?It would be impressive, that's for sure - he thinks to himself with a chuckle, then focusing on the matters at hand.
"We can take them with us and study them later Tarnagius. Is that ok?
A.k.a. Investigators have sky high Spellcraft, but no Detect Magic... Yeah... I'm gonna buy a wand as soon as possible.

"Give me a moment," says Rexandi. She murmurs to herself and looks over the items with her lips pursed.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
"This is Calistrian garb... the skimpy outfit for one of the clergy, the sleeves for making illusionary clothing of any appearance, the shackles for magically restraining and commanding."
She grimaces slightly and says, "I'm not a Calistrian. Maybe the sleeves would be useful for making disguises of various outfits, but it won't change your physical features - just the appearance of your clothes. The lingerie? Probably we could sell to a Calistrian priestess, assuming we could even find one in Kintargo."
DM Hell's Fox |
Rexandi knows that it's unlimited. Just note that this is illusion magic, not transmutation. (That means, if you're in mail armor and you want the sleeves to make you look like you're in peasant's garb, you'll still feel and sound like you're in mail).
Ederion's knowledge is supreme. That is the old symbol of the Order of the Torrent. They haven't used this symbol for at least 30 years, if not longer.
Aster Cobblestone |
So the order of the torrent was into some very strange things? Aster muses as she follows Ederion into the next room.
DM Hell's Fox |
There's nothing hidden in that little bedroom. It's just to suggest that there may be more secret doors in the dungeon. If you want to move on, I need someone to take the lead.
DM Hell's Fox |
Bump. We're back
DM Hell's Fox |
Ederion Reflex: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 1 = 21
Ederion creeps forward and only takes a few paces when the floor beneath him begins to creek. He reacts just in time, and moves to the side, when the floor betrays him and folds downwards to form a sudden slide into the pit of spikes. Fortunately, Ederion is safe where he side stepped. He only gets a quick glance, but the room down the hall has some sort of monstrously huge rotten behemoth at a cauldron. He's turning around and seems to be moving forward to investigate the trap.
Ederion is unseen, but could be seen if the behemoth moves to a location that Ederion doesn't have cover or concealment.

Ederion doubles back to inform the others as quietly as he can - "Be ready for a fight. We should get into position to catch it unaware, whatever it is"
DM Hell's Fox |
Ederion has heard rumours of such a monstrosity. In life a favoured priest of Urgathoa, Goddess of Undeath, it now even in undeath walks Golarion as a priest. Its job is to convert mortals to the faith by any means, and form a cult of living and undead.
This undead is known to be quite intelligent, and capable of speech. It is primarily a divine spellcaster, usually focusing on illusion and enchantment, but be warned. It can release swarms of carnivorous flies from its pores to protect it or harass enemies.
They are called: The mouth of Urgathoa
Tarnagius Vashnarstill |
"Well that explains the succubus. An undead might not have to worry about getting their life sucked out of them."
Tarnagius pulls out Nox's old mace and gives it a few swings.
"Might need magic weaponry to hurt it."
DM Hell's Fox |
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
You can hear the massive footsteps as the Mouth walks towards the spike pit. The floor that folded down now begins to raise back up. The Mouth lingers for a moment, then you can hear it walk back to its former location.
Aster Cobblestone |
religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Aster knows nothing of the cult of Urgathoa, so stays quiet during the discussion on what to do, but does add It is something I can help with if anyone needs, I can enchant your weapon for a short time.
just let me know if you need magic weapon cast on you.
Bazzle Blast-hazard |
"That thing is gross. I won't turn down any added edge but I think other's weapons might hit harder. I am not sure I want to get close enough to that thing to hit in a vulnerable spot."
DM Hell's Fox |
Unless anyone votes otherwise, I'll move on fairly soon with having tarnagius charge the monstrosity, with the rest close behind.
Ederion |
Please don't Fox. If the undead is intelligent then MAYBE Ederion will try to reason with him/it.. Dunno... And if not, I may lead the charge. It is always funky to DMPC someone engaging with a dangerous enemy... On another note, does Ederion know any weaknesses/resistances/vulnerabilities/immunities of the thing?
If we DO engage, would Aster or Rexandi have any opener spells?
