Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Don't drop just because of me. I have been having issues at home the last few days. In addition, it seems my post from Wednesday never showed. was getting ready to send you a PM.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

now for when we meet our host

"Thank you m'lord. You are most gracious. For truth, our only immediate concern is for Amun-ta's problem. There is another issue of our own that perhaps you may help with some information, but for now I believe everyone could do with some rest and refreshment before addressing such dark matters."

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

didn't check the last few days and missed your return :). I'll retcon some and catch up

Smiling at the brusqueness of his companions, Stefan steps towards the rider.
"I am Stefan Lebeda of House Lebeda in Brevoy, but now of Beacon." Stefan delivers with a flourish. "We have come as allies of Amun-ta who has recently suffered great loss of which I am sure she will speak to your Master of. As you can see, we are a diverse group and not all are accustomed to your ways, so please take no offense. Also, do not so hastily draw conclusions about any of us, as our manners may differ so from yours as to create a false image. However, I am sure we are all grateful for the succor you can offer, you have my thanks Sir."

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

In response to Amun-ta, "I am quite certain the old man meant high places in reference to the mountains or some such and was not referring to social or political position."

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

"Well, Captain, it seems we missed the real party. What a shame, that sounded like immense fun. I would pay dearly to see that High Priest's face when he returned home that night." Stefan says with a smile.
"More seriously though, it seems the trip has not panned out as we had hoped. I wonder if it is still worthwhile to seek out these 'people in high places' that the old man in Magnimar went on about."
He turns to Amun-ta.
"Does that have any meaning to you, lady? He was quite insistent that there are those that fight this snake cult here,"

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Unless of course you have a class ability that allows you to take 10 or 20.

"I'm fine, a little worse for the wear, but fine. I wasn't exactly dressed for a swim after all." Stefan says as he begins wringing himself dry.
"I don't suppose we know for ceratin that they won't just walk over here, do we?"

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Stefan hesitates a moment as he does the math, but with everyone else leaving he decides reluctantly to follow.
He will also attempt to swim to the rock.

Swim: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

Well, it took a while and I went under three times, but eventually made it :)

Hack: Inigo, there's more than thirty!
Polux: What's the difference? We've got him. Lifts Stefan's head. Help me here. We'll have to force-feed him.
Hack: Has it been fifteen minutes?
Polux: We can't wait. The wedding's in half an hour. We must strike in the hustle and the bustle beforehand. Tilt his head back. Open his mouth.
Polux kisses the pill and pushes it into Stefan's mouth.
Hack: How long do we have to wait, before if we know the miracle works?
Polux: Your guess is as good as mine.
Stefan: I beat you each apart! I'll take you both together!
Hack: Clapping hand over Stefan's mouth. I guess not very long.
Stefan: Why won't my arms move?
Hack: You've been mostly dead all day.
Polux: We had Miracle Max make a pill to bring you back.
Stefan: Who are you? Are we enemies? Why am I on this wall? Where's Buttercup?
Polux: Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up. Buttercup is marry Humperdinck in little less than half an hour, so all we have to do is get in, break up the wedding, steal the princess, make our escape. After I kill Count Rugen.
Stefan: Tapping thumb against chest. That doesn't leave much time for dilly-dallying.
Hack: You just wiggled your finger! That's wonderful!
Stefan: I've always been a quick healer. What are our liabilities?
Polux: There is but one working castle gate. They look. And it is guarded by... sixty men.
Stefan: And our assets?
Polux: Your brains, Hack's strength, my steel.
Stefan: That's it? Impossible. If I had a month to plan, maybe I could come up with something, but this... Shakes head.
Hack: You just shook your head! That doesn't make you happy?
Stefan: Turns to Hack. My brains, his steel, and your strength, against sixty men, and you think a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy? Hmmmm? Hack smiles. I mean, if we only had a wheelbarrow, that would be something.
Polux: Where did we put that wheelbarrow the Albino had?
Hack: Over the Albino, I think.
Stefan: Why didn't you list that among our assets in the first place? What I wouldn't give for a holocaust cloak.
Polux: There we cannot help you.
Hack: Pulling the cloak out of his shirt. Would this do?
Polux: Where did you get that?
Hack: At Miracle Max's. It fit so nice, he said I could keep it.
Stefan: All right, all right. Come on, help me up. They lift him. Now I'll need a sword eventually.
Polux: Why? You can't even lift one.
Stefan: True, but that's hardly common knowledge, is it? His head falls, Hack lifts it. Thank you. Now, there may be problems once we're inside.
Polux: I'll say. How do I find the Count? Once I do, how do I find you again? Once I find you again, how do I escape?
Hack: Turning Stefan's head away. Don't pester him. He's had a hard day.
Polux: Right. Right. Sorry. They creep down the wall.
Hack: Polux?
Polux: What?
Hack: I hope we win.

"I agree with Polux, we should investigate those sounds of distress immediately. We definitely could use information at the least and it may very well be someone in need of our aid."
Stefan draws his blade and starts for the mine shaft.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

"I also am interested in what may be in there, but those creatures did not seem to be the hoarding type, so it probably won't contain much of value. However, if we are to proceed now to Amun-Ta's household, we should be more presentable. First impressions and all that."

Stefan will wash up as best as possible in the water (if it is flowing).

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Ok, I double move to O,25.

The only things immune to crits in Pathfinder are Oozes, Elementals, and incorporeal undead (and if you have "ghost touch" on your weapon, you can crit incorporeal undead). Also, some creatures specifically say they are immune, but those are rare. They mostly did that to keep Rogues from being screwed all the time.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Stefan takes a blow, but immediately retaliates.

actions:

Now that's more like it :)

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Stefan moves up next to Hack again and attacks the same creature.

Enter Crane stance and move to L19. Attack creature at K20 fighting defensively and Power attacking.

"Ah, I hadn't realized they were going to offer a show with this trip, how excellent." Stefan casually draws his sword and slides forward some.

I will move to O,16, besides Hack.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

I'll follow Hack. Also, are we walking? Was there an opportunity to get horses or some such?

Stefan steps from the ship, taking in the diffrent style of the port.
"Well, I think we should find a place to stay before we all split up on individual errands. After we are settled, I think I'll peruse the market. No better place to get information than that."

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

I'm in Tennessee at the moment, will be home Monday night. I can only get on about once a day here.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

With the unatural fear gone, Stefan races back above deck to offer whatever aid is necessary. He is pleased to see that his withdrawal did not prevent the others from securing the other ship.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Even with the entangle, I automatically make a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Am I still frightened on my second turn? Cause Fear lasts 1d4 rounds. If I'm still frightened, I withdraw to below decks if possible. If not, I will post my action when you let me know.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Best spell to use against me...ah Will saves, the bane of every fighter :)

Will save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Overcome with sudden panic, Stefan immediately begins moving back to the ship.

I withdraw to T,17 (double move, but my speed is halved from entangle). Dain let me know when the entangle ends, its been 3 rounds and the tanglefoot bag lasts 2d4 rounds.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Entangled just reduces your DEX by 4, it does not make you flat footed.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Also, the cover penalty doesn't affect just ranged fighters, it also affects melee fighters using reach weapons.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Actually, the cover doesn't effect me, my touch AC without cover was 17 (+2 DEX, +1 Dodge feat, +4 dodge from fighting defensively). Also, you only get a cover bonus once, they don't stack. So, in your above example, the targets AC would be 22, however, no ranged fighter is not going to take Precise Shot at 1st level, so that drops the AC to 18. In addition, you are aiming for touch AC with guns. Bows suffer some, but they also have much longer range and its easier to get a damage modifier to them.

Your other examples are things we have been playing with. I always keep track of my encumbrance. 1/2 a gallon of water a day just to survive? I don't think so. I don't drink nearly that much and I taught wilderness survival for two years in the '80s.

All of that aside, in this case we are talking about a basic rule of the game. It always comes as a nasty surprise when those are changed mid battle when all of your actions were made with them in mind. I know there is no way I would have jumped on that deck in front of a line of riflemen that could fire through a packed deck with no penalties against my touch AC, thats just suicide.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

I say we just realize it from now on. I don't actually think it came into play before because things were more spread out. The cover rules are quite simple and I have never been in a game where they didn't get used. Improved Precise shot is an 11th Lvl (thanks Dain) feat and we should not give it to all ranged types for free. Precise shot negates the melee penalty, but you still have to contend with the smaller target area when people are blocking a clear line of sight.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

When shooting through occupied squares, it provides a +4 cover bonus to AC. Improved Precise Shot will negate that, but that is a 6th level feat (I think). Also, entangled only reduces my DEX by 4 (-2 to AC), it does not prevent fighting defensively, only being helpless does that.

Reflex save 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Ahhh, darn, its a 3.5 feat (Instantaneous Rage). Thought they had it in Pathfinder too, but evidently not.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Melthune, activating rage is a free action, but that can only be done on your turn. There is a feat that allows you to activate rage as an immediate action.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Dain, did you take into account the -2 for shaken? And we have cover too (+4 AC). Also, my touch AC is 17, so that guy missed me.

Stefan continues as before.

After looking some more, I see the AoO for DD is up for debate on the Paizo site, with no ruling by the designers, so whatever you choose is fine with me. I will say in my defense, that DD is a display of weapon prowess, so I'm not really "leaving myself open".

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

It's not a skill, it's a feat. A feat always says if the action from it provokes. Dead bodies don't block movement nor do they count as enemies (in normal rules), if you wish to rule different let me know

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Dazzling Display does not provoke. If the guys on the other ship can't see me, that's fine. Since the hatches aren't open, I will take the 5' step to -C, 13 instead, which means the guy in row 6 is not affected. If the combination of their hit dice and WIS modifier is 4 or less, they are shaken for 4 rounds, otherwise they are shaken for 3 rounds.

Monk(Master of Many styles)1, Fighter (Weapon Master) 3: HP-31, AC-19, Touch-15, F+6, R+7, W+2; Perception -1, Initiative +4

Are the gray areas closed hatches that we can stand on?

actions:

5' step to -D, 12. Use Dazzling Display.

Stefan slides over and then performs an intricate kata that makes it obvious his far greater skill at arms than the marines that witness it, making it obvious to them the futility of standing against him.

Dazzling Display to demoralize all foes within 30'
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 vs DC of 10 + their hit dice + their WIS modifier

They are shaken for 1 round + 1 round for every 5 I beat the DC. That would get every enemy from row 6 and right on the ship we are on as well as the marines at 10, 12, 13, and 15 on the other ship

Melthune, there is no "acting defensively". You must attack to get the benefit of fighting defensively (i.e. +2 AC). Instead you may go "total defense" which gives you +4 AC, but limits you to a single move action.

I'm back, tests came out good, so it looks like the seizure was related to his flu. He's home now and we have to watch him for a week, but hopefully that's it.

Guys, my posting will be spotty at best the next few days. My grandson had a seizure yesterday when I was watching him and we have been in the hospital since. I'm a little bit of a mess atm. Dain, if needed, go ahead and NPC me. Tomorrow I should know more and maybe hopefully good news.

"Before we so readily give up on proceeding to Osrion, I think I have some information that might help decide things. I have been told that this evil is persistent and seeks new places for their blood sacrifices. I was also informed that we should seek in the high places of Osirion for those that battle this ancient evil and that they may be able to aid us. The other worry I have is the focus of these people on the ancient ruins of Thassilon. Perhaps they know of something that will greatly aid their cause that exists somewhere in Varisia. If so, then we should bend every effort to thwart them as that would be a direct threat to Beacon. I fear that a resurgence of the Serpent worshipers power would lead to much devastation in our realm."
