Taissa Sloane
Taissa gave a Roc call up to Daya who was flying overhead. In a quick series of screeches and alike, Taissa asked Daya to tell her if she could notice anything from above.
Daya's Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Erg. So there's that.
Daya unfortunately could not make anything out and informed Daya in Roc speak.
Taissa silently wondered if the Undead creatures had wandered up here or started from here ... But she held her peace lest it upset Amun-ta.
She readied her longbow in case of trouble. In much lowered voice, she asked her companions, "Could someone be trapped in the mineshaft at this time of night? Could the mine have collapsed trapping the people?" Taissa did not like this situation at all. What had Johnny gotten them into ...
Taissa's eyes scoured the area, especially toward the dark opening of the mineshaft.
Taissa's Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Taissa's Sense Motive (re the voice calling from shaft): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Looking down at the pup nestled in the pouch she asked him, "Can you smell anything unusual, White Fang?"
The worg pup pushed his head out of the pouch, and, with nose lifted, began sniffing the air.
White Fang's Survival (via Scent): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Dain GM
Via White Fang's scent -
The wind is coming off the water and it is blowing toward you from the sea down the river that stabs into the canyon. White Fang smells nothing but the smell of salty air and the usual smells of the beach blowing toward you.
Sense Motive via Mine Shaft
It sounds like someone in distress - but that's about all that you'd suspect.
It does occur to you that if you can hear a noise over the sound of the waves, it's possible that it may be pretty loud, though.
Via Perception
It's hard to say - even with low-light vision your ability to see doesn't go that far beyond your torches - even at roughly 90 feet in every direction, your range of vision is technically limited.
Via Daya -
I took the liberty of assuming that she had already flown off to explore the area from overhead. It was her prior scouting that allowed you to see with clarity the range of buildings from the Great House, temple, foundary houses, and so on.
Via your conversation about the Mine Shaft -
Amun-ta looks over toward the shaft, her eyes narrowing and she turns to Taissa.
"I do not think it could have collapsed. The shaft is very strong and sturdy. It is large enough for at least two men to walk abreast and take carts and supplies of ore...."
She frowns, nervousness on her face.
"Where are all the people? Where is my father" she adds with a tense voice.
Melthune
Melthune re-arms. She points to the walled manor with her sword and turns to Amun-ta.
"Your house compound? Are those the only gates?" She asks the other woman quietly, (Then, if receiving an answer of 'Yes' responds to the party)
"I suggest we advance into the court-yard. Close and bar the gates and then clear the main house and its grounds of any enemies. Wait till dawn and then seek answers to this puzzle." Melthune's voice remains low as she looks around cautiously out into the darkness,
Perception:1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Dain GM
Okay - so far Taissa has acted; Amun-ta and Snaga have both acted via their "Taking 10's" on perception checks and posting up just their responses.
Hack's taken a Free Action; but he hasn't formally acted.
This leaves everyone else. For now I'm going to do this "Round by Round" until we're able to get this little mystery solved - then we can move forward to meeting with Jenner formally and the "Good Stuff" - such as deciding what to do with loot and moving on to interaction during dinner.
I'll check the boards later tonight, though, and see what happens.

Perception:1d20+12
Amun-ta looks over at Melthune.
"Aye - there are only one set of gates," she says indicating toward AO:36. The person in your company nearest to the gates is at AP:44 - roughly 40 feet from them.
Melthune - it's difficult to see much, given the fact that you don't have low-light vision and the place is very dark. Also, the echo of the waves on the tall cliffs around you is making it hard to hear much.
I'm heading to work; but more on this when I get back.
Melthune
Melthune nods to Amon-ta and looks to every one else.
The strange thing is, even given our time zone differences? I too am preparing for work etc. :P Yay 2:00 Am morning starts.
Shenkt "Hack" Corchran
Come, then, let's head inside.
Hack moves towards the house, holding his Axe before him and scanning the grounds for any sign of movement.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
I cannot see the map for some reason. Please re-post the link on this page of the thread, and I will move in the most direct route through the gates and to the front door.
Polux
Via the Heal Check –
Everything seems okay. Polux did not get infected by the disease, so that’s good news.
FYI – via the Natural 20 and the +2 aid check – these are very unusual undead. Typically undead are made from dark magic; these seem to be humans who have somehow contracted a foul disease and the disease itself seems to be the cause of their curse.
"Thank you Taissa" - Polux nods - "It's not as easy to battle something I cannot stick my knife into. Good to know I didn't catch anything from those rotten things back there"
Hearing Polux’s suggestion, Snaga dashes over to the cave and flicks some quick marks over the entrance. He takes a moment to peek inside, then dashes back up after the party.
”She’s right, chief,” he says to Polux ”I can see good in caves – that one ain’t bigger than a small room. Look like dead animals were in there, though… looked like maybe a dead horse, I think… hard to tell… it look like the head was busted up and the brains scooped out…” he says with a grunt.
"I still would want to take a look in there - the mark will allow us to get back to it if we are so inclined - guess I am more curious than I should"
Polux
At the sound of the voice calling out from the mine shaft, Snaga looks around the black streets; the empty houses – the empty Great House – the dark estates. He looks over at the black mouth of the mine shaft and glances toward Polux.
”I got a bad feeling about this, chief,” he says and draws his weapons even as Amun-ta glances to the sound of the noise.
"Yep, it all stinks like yesterda's catch" - Polux concurs with Snaga, approaching the lip of the shaft, and peering inside.
As Melthune and Hack suggesting moving into Amun-Ta's household, Polux raises an eyebrow - "Come on people - Am I the only one listening to this call for help? We cannot simply ignore it, right?" - he shrugs, looking at the others - "I mean... Dang! I thought I was the cold-hearted one, but you guys are harsh. This is all wrong, I agree, but maybe someone is in trouble down there, and we're not checking it?" - Polux moves just a couple of feet into the mine shaft - "You gotta be joking me" - he adds, looking into the pitch black darkness.
Dain GM
Hey guys, stopped home real quick from work - now I'm off to see my nephew play a sports game, but I'll have more up tonight.
Polux - not quite to the mine shaft. You're actually 70 feet from the entrance to the Great House when you are speaking, and the mine shaft is 150 feet from you current position. Via your conversation, I'll assume you can (at most) double move to about 10 feet to the entrance of the Great House.
Hack, as you took an action, you're only able to move your standard 30 feet, so you're still roughly 40 feet from the entrance.
The reason I'm having everyone do a "Round by Round" action for the meet and greet is so I know basically where everyone is on the map when you get ready to meet with Jenner and the rest of the folks on the estate.
Your position - in relation to the NPC's - will actually effect things a bit; hence my need to figure out where people are.
Right now I got actions from everyone but Stefan - but I won't have time to do formal introductions until a bit later tonight when I get home.
Finally - Hack - here is the current map. Again, you guys were on AR:44. The mine shaft is at AR:13.
Map is currently Here. It has not been updated with everyone's movements, though.
See you all tonight!
Stefan Lebeda
"I agree with Polux, we should investigate those sounds of distress immediately. We definitely could use information at the least and it may very well be someone in need of our aid."
Stefan draws his blade and starts for the mine shaft.
Taissa Sloane
Amun-ta looks over toward the shaft, her eyes narrowing and she turns to Taissa.
"I do not think it could have collapsed. The shaft is very strong and sturdy. It is large enough for at least two men to walk abreast and take carts and supplies of ore...."
She frowns, nervousness on her face.
"Where are all the people? Where is my father" she adds with a tense voice.
In lowered voice, "Would your father's people go into the mineshaft to hide from intruders?" And then another thought entered Taissa's mind. "Or the shaft could prove a makeshift guardhouse for holding people against their will..."
Hearing her companions consider the options, Taissa turned around and added, "The mineshaft would have lanterns set on the walls, that just need to be lit. The voice may be a ruse to get us closer; still, we should look inside. All the people of this estate could not have vanished into thin air."
Turning her face, in the dim light of the torches, she addressed Amun-ta once more, and quietly and steadily re-asked (not wanting to offend or disturb Amun-ta further), "Have your father's people ever used the mineshaft as a hiding place? Or are there other hiding places on this estate in case of attack by raiders?"
While waiting for the priestess' answer, Taissa turned to Polux and discreetly shared her plan, "We heard the voice only after Amun-ta called out. What if we placed her nearer, but not too close, to the mineshaft and had her call out again. We could post one or two of our people with her for protection. The rest of us could be hiding, closer still to the opening ... and listening, attempting to gain an advantage or some knowledge... It makes no sense to all walk into the dark mine, hoping for the best. Snaga's good with caves, I've heard him say. And he's very good at advancing quietly...He could lead us in, if he's willing."
Diplomacy with Amun-ta, if needed, to keep the conversation even and calm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Dain GM
Amun-ta looks at Taissa.
"The shafts are huge - they could hide many people - perhaps everyone in the entire estate... But why would they be hiding in the mines? Why should they hide underground? What is there for them to hide from? They could have simply hidden behind the walls of the Great House..." she says.
Cool - so that's all the actions for the rounds. That said -
Dain GM
Snaga watches with a frown as Polux, Hack and Stefan prepare to go explore the mineshaft.
He doesn’t personally care about whoever may be in the mines and need help; his chief and tribe are here. Further, they are humans and cannot see well in the dark. Even with torches, who knows what is lurking in the shadows or may have moved outside the mineshaft even now?
Watching his companions move away he takes his torch and hurls it as far as he can!
Throw range for the torch – 50 feet. Radius for torchlight – 30 feet. The torch lands at AR:27. It shines in a wide radius and you all suddenly realize what the noise is.
It is not, in fact, a moaning; but more of a rustle… Now you see what is on the move.
Dinner is Here.
Taissa Sloane
Dinner is here? Seriously or was that a typo? ;)
Taissa takes a defensive stance as she attempts to determine if they're friend or foe.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 Well, that wasn't a great check ...
Dain GM
Snaga takes a free action - "Run, run, run!" he calls out.
Snaga knows - (as all of you recall) that these things have a move speed of 40 and a climb speed of 20 (climb +11). He therefore does not elect to hide in the Great House - instead, he decides to make a full retreat north to the docks...
Games to you guys - FYI - the number of undead on the scene is not wholly accurate.
There are more than I had room for at this time.
Taissa Sloane
Upon Snaga's warning, Taissa pushes the pup down into the pouch/sling and signalling Daya to follow (in the sky), runs at full speed (retreats) after the goblin, toward the dock.
Dain GM
Dinner is here? Seriously or was that a typo? ;)
Taissa takes a defensive stance as she attempts to determine if they're friend or foe.
[dice=Perception]1d20+9 Well, that wasn't a great check ...
It's enough to know that the guys in pink are undead - the same type that you faced before. They must have been hiding in the caves of the mines and when you all walked in they smelled you and then came charging in after you all.
No - that wasn't a typo via dinner. It seems that you guys are the main course...
Taissa Sloane
You said the mine was 150 ft feet from us. Even with scent ability, these creatures really picked up our scent over such a distance, while inside the cave? Wow. Okay. The Walking Dead writers could learn a thing from these Walkers. ;)
Dain GM
You said the mine was 150 ft feet from us. Even with scent, these creatures really picked up our scent over such a distance? Wow. Okay.
It's possible that they didn't pick you guys up via scent. They may have been able to hear you talking, or see the only torches/lights in the entire basin suddenly shining out when there was no other lights, or it's possible that they simply heard you guys as no one made a stealth check, too.
It's just as well, I suspect. If they didn't come out until you got all the way to the mine shaft, then you'd be even farther from getting away. Also, they can do a double move at 80 feet a round, assuming they don't do a run for 200 feet a round. You guys made perception checks; talked for free actions and considered options. No one made a stealth check, though.
Taissa Sloane
I had Taissa talk in lowered, discreet voice in all my postings and you didn't once ask for a stealth roll, if that is what you were looking for ... Just something to consider.
Taissa Sloane
White Fang roars out fiercely as you charge north to the docks -
"Ahhhhhhh!"
"Be quiet, White Fang", Taissa admonished, wondering at the worg's common sense in this situation.
Dain GM
"Be quiet, White Fang".
White Fang peeks his head and paws over the pouch and stares at the water in front of you.
"Faster, faster, faster!" he says in a scared little voice.
White Fang is able to take 10 via Perception as he's formally resting int he pouch.
"Get to rock on water!" he says looking at the water.
Taissa - I need a quick position from you. Rough approximation is all - nothing too serious about coordinates. But the farther the better. They'll able to catch you in a flat run easy; so the faster/farther you go the better.
Stefan Lebeda
Hack: Inigo, there's more than thirty!
Polux: What's the difference? We've got him. Lifts Stefan's head. Help me here. We'll have to force-feed him.
Hack: Has it been fifteen minutes?
Polux: We can't wait. The wedding's in half an hour. We must strike in the hustle and the bustle beforehand. Tilt his head back. Open his mouth.
Polux kisses the pill and pushes it into Stefan's mouth.
Hack: How long do we have to wait, before if we know the miracle works?
Polux: Your guess is as good as mine.
Stefan: I beat you each apart! I'll take you both together!
Hack: Clapping hand over Stefan's mouth. I guess not very long.
Stefan: Why won't my arms move?
Hack: You've been mostly dead all day.
Polux: We had Miracle Max make a pill to bring you back.
Stefan: Who are you? Are we enemies? Why am I on this wall? Where's Buttercup?
Polux: Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up. Buttercup is marry Humperdinck in little less than half an hour, so all we have to do is get in, break up the wedding, steal the princess, make our escape. After I kill Count Rugen.
Stefan: Tapping thumb against chest. That doesn't leave much time for dilly-dallying.
Hack: You just wiggled your finger! That's wonderful!
Stefan: I've always been a quick healer. What are our liabilities?
Polux: There is but one working castle gate. They look. And it is guarded by... sixty men.
Stefan: And our assets?
Polux: Your brains, Hack's strength, my steel.
Stefan: That's it? Impossible. If I had a month to plan, maybe I could come up with something, but this... Shakes head.
Hack: You just shook your head! That doesn't make you happy?
Stefan: Turns to Hack. My brains, his steel, and your strength, against sixty men, and you think a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy? Hmmmm? Hack smiles. I mean, if we only had a wheelbarrow, that would be something.
Polux: Where did we put that wheelbarrow the Albino had?
Hack: Over the Albino, I think.
Stefan: Why didn't you list that among our assets in the first place? What I wouldn't give for a holocaust cloak.
Polux: There we cannot help you.
Hack: Pulling the cloak out of his shirt. Would this do?
Polux: Where did you get that?
Hack: At Miracle Max's. It fit so nice, he said I could keep it.
Stefan: All right, all right. Come on, help me up. They lift him. Now I'll need a sword eventually.
Polux: Why? You can't even lift one.
Stefan: True, but that's hardly common knowledge, is it? His head falls, Hack lifts it. Thank you. Now, there may be problems once we're inside.
Polux: I'll say. How do I find the Count? Once I do, how do I find you again? Once I find you again, how do I escape?
Hack: Turning Stefan's head away. Don't pester him. He's had a hard day.
Polux: Right. Right. Sorry. They creep down the wall.
Hack: Polux?
Polux: What?
Hack: I hope we win.
Taissa Sloane
At double speed, that's 80ft for Taissa so, she should be able to get to the waterline/foreshore (Taissa was at the back of the group and closer to the dock/water). I'm assuming the rock is situated at the top of the map, with the building structure/possibly lighthouse/tower on it in the ocean? Do we need to make swim checks?
Taissa screeched in Roc up to Daya (flying in the sky above them) about getting to the rock in the water. "Take White Fang and fly him to the Rock!" If Daya needs to make checks to fly down (to an outstretched pup in Taissa's hands) and pick the pup up in her claws and fly him across, let me know, please. Daya's fly speed is 80 ft (at double move 160 ft, and the pup is well within the light load weight of the Roc's carrying capacity.)
"Everyone move to the Rock in the water!", she called out to the others running behind her, while pointing to show them where.
Jenner 'Holystone'
As if the rock-in-the-water knew it was being spoken of...
There's a faint gleam way off in the dark, over the water: a thin little spark. It grows in a handful of seconds, until it's a decent-sized light-source, and then brightens quite a lot-- as if someone had figured out how to angle the lighthouse's mirror so that the light shone to land, and not out to sea. A broad beam of light washes over the fleeing group, then past them to bathe the pursuing horrors.
A man's voice yells out from over the water, hoarse and cracked.
Taissa Sloane
Okay, the pup is in a shallow sling around Taissa's neck. She can dip her hand him, grab the pup and lift him as he only weighs a few pounds. How does that slow down Taissa by 10 feet per round? People can run and draw weapons which weigh as much as the pup without slowing them down, so I don't understand the penalty. White Fang is a 'tiny' creature.
Perception to hear voice over water (DC 17): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Taissa's ears catch the warning coming from the ocean and she continues to sprint so she may enter the water and swim as instructed.
Dain GM
Melthune runs as fast as she can along with every one else.
You got a move speed of only 20 feet in your armor; the undead move at 40 feet. At a full run you can move 80 feet and they can move 200 feet. But it will be tricky. The real issue is how good can you swim once you hit the docks?
Next round they'll be able to get near enough to you guys to attack you. But it's not likely that they'll attack you. They'll likely just try to entangle you long enough for the rest of them to swarm out fast.
Dain GM
Okay, the pup is in a shallow sling around Taissa's neck. She can dip her hand him, grab the pup and lift him as he only weight a few pounds. How does that slow down Taissa by 10 feet per round?
Taking White Fang out and handing him to Daya is not unlike drawing a throwing knife and throwing him at a target. You can "Draw Him" as part of a Move Action and hand him off to Daya as a Move Action - same as handing a companion an item. In this case the item is White Fang. You can take 2 Move Actions in a round via a Double Move Action - this means that you can move your standard 30 feet and hand White Fang over as your other Move Action.
This round you already took your action to Double Move at sixty feet.
I didn't get the coordinates from earlier, so at this point I'm saying that you are now at AB:46 at the end of your Double Move. Next round you can move to the water, pass on White Fang and hopefully wade in. But unless you're moving far enough to swim, they can wade after you.
Taissa Sloane
You said not to worry about coordinates and give you a rough estimate which I did. In round 1, if I'm not handing over the pup, then I have run 80 ft (as I have 40 ft per round as a Beastmaster (fast movement +10 to speed) and I made a double move). Please adjust those coordinates accordingly. Thanks.
Polux
As Snaga throws the torch into the shaft, Polux's eyes go wide - "What the f...." - he starts but his voice trails off, as he dashes away without thinking twice.
Strangely enough, the man makes sure he is the one closing the escape - without a word, he grits his teeth and makes sure no one stays behind, constantly looking over his shoulder to make sure he will not be attacked from the back - if it turns up he will be, Polux simply turns around and fights.
EDIT: Stefan my friend, that was brilliant ;)
Dain GM

That's fine. You're at AB:5o, then. Sorry I made the mistake earlier. I forgot your move speed and got a bit confused with all the stuff going on.
Dain GM
Snaga has double-moved to up to roughly AG:44 and Amun-ta has move to roughly AE:45.
For now I've got Melthune moving at 40 feet a round. You're at roughly AJ:43.
I'm going to say that Polux is at roughly adjacent to you as he had to start farther west than you did, but he's overtaking you slowly.
Still need to hear from Hack at this time. Also, I don't know if Stefan is still moving to the mine; running for the water; or trying to use diplomacy... Hopefully we'll hear more from both of them soon.
Shenkt "Hack" Corchran
Your hopes have been answered!
Hack makes off with the others, double-timing it to the docks.
Come, let's run!
When he nears the docks he searches for a watercraft, while not slowing.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Dain GM
Hack, as you and Taissa charge forward you notice in the dim torchlight that there is small, beat-up skiff. It won’t hold all of you, maybe only two or three people in total (roughly 500 pounds, maybe) but it should be enough to get those of you have issues with swimming at least to safety.
Right, so at this point I have Hack, Taissa, Snaga and Amun-ta by the docks. Melthune is lagging behind a bit because of the armor; and Polux is holding back as the rear-guard. The only person I don’t have accounted for is Stefan; but I’ll give him a bit more time before things move forward.
Dain GM
Cool. So at this point I'm just going to say that Stefan will do a "Full-Run" to the docks, too and Polux will bring up the rear guard with Melthune, making sure that the slower moving warrior has some cover to get to where he's going.
Snaga will examine the streets and move down a bit south of the docks, seeing that his "chief" is moving to aid the armored warrior and moving slowly. He'll hold an Alchemist Fire at the ready because he knows these undead are susceptible to fire and light (I forgot to put that on his formal sheet, Polux, though I was reminded recently that he did have at least one) and ready the Fire to toss into the charging horde if it looks like they're gaining on his "Chief". Then he'll rush as fast as he can to the docks and dive in the water to swim.
The boat can hold 500 pounds roughly - who is going to get into the boat and who is going to swim?
The DC for a Swim Check in relatively calm water, such as the bay, is 10. There is a modest penalty to Swim Checks for certain armor and depending on what type of "Load" you're carrying which will come into play.
Failure by 4 or less just means you flounder for a round. Unless you get less than a 6 you won't go under and you can move up to 15 feet every round in the water (overland speed for Beastmasters and Barbarians don't formally count for Swim Speed, I believe). So that should be roughly 7 checks to make it to the island with Jenner offering support there.
Meanwhile, I took some time to answer Hack's question on the Discussion Thread as I felt he raised some points that needed to be addressed. It's a bit lengthy, but I did what I could to respond to his excellent comment (as well as some of the other comments that I received from some of you via PM). Anyhow, it's up there if you'd like to read it.
Jenner - I'm glad to see you on board and I hope that you'll enjoy the game. The PC's are in shouting distance, so you're able to communicate with them now if you'd like, but I'm sure you'll have some catching up to do when they get to the island that you're on.
That said, welcome aboard! :)
Taissa Sloane
If we have a boat, then Taissa will hand Hack the worg pup instead of have Daya pick him up mid flight.

Cool - so far I have Stefan making it eventually like an almost drowned rat (given his rolls), but he does make it eventually.
Taissa makes it in the 7 rounds with ease (Taissa, the water is luckily warm enough that you won't need the check).
Hack, you're at the boat - In this case given the short distance and calm sees you can just Take 10 on your Profession: Sailor check. I'm assuming that you're waiting for Polux and Melthune?
Taissa and Stefan - you are free to RP with Jenner at this time, if you'd like, as you two are on the island with him, and you're able to get the full details at that time.
I'll have a formal description of what happens on the mainland once I see what Polux and Melthune do with Hack.
Snaga is waiting for Polux; though Amun-set is swimming to the island at this time.
She should be there sometime between when Taissa and Stefan arrive.
Taissa, when you arrive on the island White Fang greets you by running in a circle and barking at everything and wagging his tail.
Dain GM
I'm presuming Daya would have made it fine, flying across, to the island?
That's kind of up to you. White Fang was carried by Daya and White Fang is there so we know that Daya brought him over per your request. But it's possible that you may have sent Daya out to scout the whole mainland, or scout the ocean to see how this guy got there, or many other things after that, if you'd like. But I'll leave Daya's position up to you as she under your control, whereas White Fang is kind of a shared thing, so wherever you need Daya to be, let me know and she'll be there.
