Magic fang states:
"The unarmed attack becomes a +1 striking unarmed attack, gaining a +1 item bonus to attack rolls and increasing the number of damage dice to two."

Most animals already have a 2 die attack
Ape: fist Damage 2d6
Bear: jaws Damage 2d8

The spell 'Animal form' grants the same above attack damage.

So magic fang does nothing to these attacks beyond adding +1 to hit?

So would a "Bonded Animal" (Skill Feat) be better than a 'Animal Companion' for combat?

Cross Narrow Surfaces/Uneven Ground

First, you can use Acrobatics to move on narrow surfaces and uneven ground without falling. A successful check allows you to move at half speed across such surfaces—only one check is needed per round. Use the following table to determine the base DC, which is then modified by the Acrobatics skill modifiers noted below. While you are using Acrobatics in this way, you are considered flat-footed and lose your Dexterity bonus to your AC (if any). If you take damage while using Acrobatics, you must immediately make another Acrobatics check at the same DC to avoid falling or being knocked prone.
Quote:

Uncanny Dodge

Starting at 4th level, a rogue can react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She cannot be caught flat-footed, nor does she lose her Dex...

So if balancing you're flat-footed unless you have uncanny dodge.

Then what is the point of the rouge talent 'ledge walker'?

Quote:

Ledge Walker

This ability allows a rogue to move along narrow surfaces at full speed using the Acrobatics skill without penalty. In addition, a rogue with this talent is not flat-footed when using Acrobatics to move along narrow surfaces.

Would it just be for rogue archetypes who've switched out uncanny dodge?

Are you flat-footed when in difficult terrain?

Last game we had this discussion (PCs moving through thick underbrush, lots of roots they could trip over) and ruled that when moving you were flat-footed, but if you didn't take a move action you weren't. (Unless someone had uncanny dodge).

Attacks of Opportunity

Sometimes a combatant in a melee lets her guard down or takes a reckless action. In this case, combatants near her can take advantage of her lapse in defense to attack her for free. These free attacks are called attacks of opportunity.

A helpless character is paralyzed, held, bound, sleeping, unconscious, or otherwise completely at an opponent's mercy.

So if just letting your guard down provokes, shouldn't being held provoke?

What is the DC to notice Camouflage netting? Not the DC to see what it is hiding, but the DC to notice it is netting and not bushes or sand?

Lets say someone is looking around a bar for someone suspicious, or your walking through a crowd trying to remain innocuous.

Would these be stealth, bluff or even disguise checks?

A barbarian rages and then someone hits them with Frostbite (fatigue, no save), does their rage end because they are fatigued?

The reason I ask is because a barbarian's rage is in rounds and not a set duration (10 rounds) it is chosen round by round to keep going and "A barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted...". So if something caused him to become fatigued would he be able to continue his rage the following round? If not would he become exhausted? Frostbite says the spell cannot make them exhausted but can another source?

See Invisibility

You can see any objects or beings that are invisible within your range of vision, as well as any that are ethereal, as if they were normally visible. Such creatures are visible to you as translucent shapes, allowing you easily to discern the difference between visible, invisible, and ethereal creatures.
Quote:

Ethereal Plane

The Ethereal Plane is home to phantasmal creatures such as ghosts, as well as things born from the dreams of mortals. It is also the home of night hags and the xill.

So when you cast 'See Invisibility' you see lots of weird stuff beside just people who are invisible. Xill going about their daily lives, ghost, night hag covens, cast off mortal dreams all roaming around...

Would permanent see invisibility just drive you mad?

Hello,

Does anyone have an actual 'Guild Charter' written out? I had one that I use to modify depending on the game and what not, but I appear to no longer have it.

So I am looking to see if anyone has one written out. Guild offices, tax, item reselling rules, etc.

Thanks

Hunter's Animal Focus States: If the hunter's animal companion is dead, the hunter can apply her companion's animal focus to herself instead of her animal companion. Master Performer (Kitharodian Academy)

When using your bardic performance abilities, you grant your allies greater bonuses.
Prerequisites: Bardic performance class feature, Extra Performance, Kitharodian Academy 15 TPA.
Benefit: When any of your bardic performance abilities grant your allies a bonus, that bonus is increased by +1.

Under skald it says...

"A raging song counts as the bard's bardic performance special ability for any effect that affects bardic performances."

Quote:
Inspired Rage (Su): At 1st level, affected allies gain a +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +1 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC.

Would a Bard 1/Skald 1 using Inspired Rage grant a +3 bonus to Str & Con and a +2 to will?

GOLEM: Being mindless, golems do nothing without orders from their creators. They follow instructions explicitly and are incapable of complex strategy or tactics. A golem's creator can command it if the golem is within 60 feet and can see and hear its creator. If uncommanded, a golem usually follows its last instruction to the best of its ability, though if attacked it returns the attack. The creator can give the golem a simple command to govern its actions in his absence, or can order the golem to obey the commands of another, but the golem's creator can always resume control by commanding the golem to obey him alone.

Can I use the skill 'Use Magic Device' (maybe 'activate blindly') to command a golem as if I am it's creator?

Can the spell Ears of the City be cast in a recently abandoned city to find out why it was abandoned?

So My PCs arrived in at Hergstag in the morning.
They found "evil" in a couple of the buildings with detect evil, but the houses were empty when they go in (being day time they wraith goes underground when the doors/windows are opened).
They figured whatever the "evil" is, was hiding from them. So they went inside closed the doors and the Paladin detected evil until something showed up. A small wraith, fight ensued.
So their current thinking is:
1) The small wraiths in the houses are the murdered children, who are hiding from the sunlight in their houses.
2) When the sun sets all the little wraiths will come out of their houses and kill them.
3) Something turned them into wraiths. They want to know what did it. 4) Maybe by killing that creature will make the small children wraiths die/rest.

So my question is, how in the world are they suppose to find where Brother Swarm's lair is? There seems to be no leads, nor even hints as to how the PCs are suppose to find it.

Note: The PCs have made it adamantly clear they plan to leave hergstag atleast 2 hours before sunset (so they don't have to deal with a wraith swarm).

Does a the alchemist archetype Sleuth still get extracts?

Versatile Performer
You are skilled at many kinds of performances.
Prerequisite: Perform (any) 5 ranks.
Benefit: Pick a number of Perform categories equal to your Intelligence bonus (minimum 1). For the purpose of making Perform checks, you are treated as having a number of ranks in those skills equal to the highest number of ranks you have in any Perform category. You cannot change these categories once you have picked them, but your score in them automatically increases if you later add additional ranks in your highest-ranked Perform category. You gain new categories of your choice if your Intelligence bonus permanently increases.
In addition, you gain a +2 bonus on a combined Perform check when using two or more forms of performance at the same time, such as a bard strumming a lyre while singing. In such cases, add the bonus to the higher of your two Perform skill modifiers.

Does pathfinder have anything like that?

Hello,
The new 'wrath of the righteous' game only has 4 cures and 1 healing potion. Since they are basic cards can we add extra cures or healing potions from previous editions to our decks.

We have 6 people playing and 3 are divine spellcasters. Just seems odd only having 1 cure each (max).

Could you use the wood shape spell to create a roll/bundle of twine?

Or would twine be considered "fine detail"?

Also: Can you use wood shape on plants in general, or just "wood"? Like could you use the spell to form some hay into a scarecrow body?

Can a druid with the Bat-Shaman archetype take the trickery domain, or can he only take the Deception subdomain?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

Cave Domain

SLA & Spell-level

Since the cave domain power is a SLA and the darkvision spell is 2nd level, this should count as a 2nd level SLA, correct?

First off -
Spell-Like Abilities counting as spell for prestige classes.
Spell-Like abilities a class grants use that classes arcane/divine type
"While a cleric or other domain-using class can select an inquisition in place of a domain (if appropriate to the character’s deity), inquisitions do not grant domain spell slots or domain spells, and therefore are much weaker choices for those classes." - Ultimate Magic pg 41

-----
I am making sure I do this correctly.
Half-Elf with the Drow-Magic racial feat.
-Drow-Magic grants darkness SLA (which is a 2nd lv arcane spell)
Druid-Fate Inquisition
-Fate Inquisition grants Augury SLA (which is a 2nd lv divine spell)

This should qualify for the mystic theurge requirements of 2nd level divine and arcane spells. Correct?
-----
So Arcanist 2/Druid 1 would allow me to put 3 ranks into the required skills to qualify for the skill section of the requirements.
-----
This should allow me to pick up mystic theurge at 4th level. Are there any other non-cleric divine casters who can get early access?
I know that wood oracle can.
Can a druid with the Bat-Shaman take the trickery domain, or can he only take the Deception subdomain?

Quote:

Exploiter Exploit

At 1st level and every 4 levels thereafter, the exploiter wizard gains a single arcanist exploit. The exploiter wizard uses his wizard level as his arcanist level for determining the effects and DCs of his arcanist exploits.
Quote:
Swift Consume (Ex): The arcanist can use the consume spells class feature or the consume magic items exploit as swift actions instead of as move actions.

Swift Consume says you can use the consume spells class feature, or the consume magic item exploit as swift actions.

This ability has no prerequisites! You don't need consume magic nor consume spells to take it. Which by RAW would mean if you choose it you gain consume magic items exploit automatically but as a swift action.

So a Exploiter wizard could choose this exploit to gain the consume spells class feature.
-----
I know RAI most likely wouldn't come out with the same answer, but RAW does.

The example I am using is a Alchemist 1/Wizard 4/Natural Alchemist 10, all prestige class caster levels added to Wizard.

Quote:
(Natural Discoveries) Natural alchemist class levels stack with alchemist levels for the purpose of qualifying for and using these discoveries (but not others).
Quote:
At 3rd level and every 3 levels thereafter, a natural alchemist adds 1d6 points of damage to her bomb damage, gains one additional bomb per day, and treats her alchemist level as 1 higher for the purpose of qualifying for discoveries that affect her bombs.

-

His effective level for 'natural discoveries' should be 11.
His effective level for 'bomb discoveries' should be 4.
His effective level for 'alchemist discoveries' should be 1.

Now the FAQ says:

Quote:
It depends on how the archetype's ability is worded. If the archetype ability says it works like the standard ability, it counts as that ability. If the archetype's ability requires you to make a specific choice for the standard ability, it counts as that ability. -- Link

I understand this ruling is for a archetype and not a prestige class, but I am looking for a "standard" ruling and this was the closest I could find.

Quote:

Natural Discovery - Class feature

At 2nd level and again at 4th, 6th, and 8th level, a natural alchemist gains a new alchemist discovery from one of the rare natural discoveries below or from the following list

To me this sounds like it should count as the Natural Alchemist having the 'Discovery' class feature because it works like the standard ability but requires you to make a specific choice.

Does this allow you to take the feat extra discovery?

If you combine Targeted Bomb Admixture and Immolation Bomb the outcome should be that one target takes damage? And there is no splash from the immolation?

Ex- 6th level alchemist with a 22 INT doing this would deal d6+12 damage each round for 3 rounds. But since they used Targeted Bomb Admixture the immolation effect shouldn't 'splash'?

Is there any rules for making specific cursed items?

Could you use greater bestow curse to change a creature's alignment?

One of the things I didn't like was people being in the RuneForge for 10,000 years so I slowed time down in it.
When someone makes contact with the RuneForge (even scrying) the RuneForge environment is active for 4+d4 days, after which time inside stops.
So for the last 10,000 years the RunForge has only been active for a couple hundred. Long enough for the backstory inside to happen, but no long enough that everyone would had ended themselves from boredom.
-----
Each section doesn't really contact the other sections, and I've been giving each section a chance to notice the PCs killing everything in another section.
Azaven is the only one who noticed so far, and has been collecting the dead. He was very happy when he found the stacks and stack of Vrazeris' clones. The PCs will have a couple more mummies waiting for them.

So apparently most people believe a non-fighter does not gain any benefit from the Sash of the War Champion, so how about something similar that anyone can use.

Quote:

Sash of Armor Ease

Aura moderate abjuration; CL 9th
Slot chest; Price 8,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.

DESCRIPTION

This bright red strip of cloth, stitched with images of a cheering crowd throwing garlands toward a chariot, fits across the wearer's shoulders and then diagonally down his chest to reach his opposite hip.

When the wearer is wearing armor, he reduces the armor check penalty by 1 (to a minimum of 0) and increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by his armor by 1. In addition, he also move at his normal speed while wearing medium armor.
If the wearer is a fighter of third level or higher then his armor training class feature is treated as if it was 4 levels higher.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Craft Wondrous Item, cat's grace; Cost 4,000 gp

Comments?

Making a magical item and wondering what people thought of it.

Quote:

Wraps of the Pugilist

Aura faint conjuration; CL 5th
Slot body; Price 10,000 gp; Weight 1 lb.

DESCRIPTION
This magical body wrap is woven from silken, diaphanous material. The first 5 points of lethal damage the wearer takes from each attack are converted into nonlethal damage. The wraps may convert up to 25 hit points worth of damage per day. If the wearer is subjected to nonlethal damage the first 5 points are negated and the negated damage is subtracted from the total amount the wraps can absorb that day.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Craft Wondrous Item, Ablative Barrier; Cost 5,000 gp

Sash of the War Champion

Quote:
The wearer treats his fighter level as 4 higher than normal for the purpose of the armor training and bravery class features.

Side One) You have zero levels in fighter, so you should be treated as a 4th level fighter for the purpose of armor training & bravery.

Side Two) You have to have access to Armor Training & bravery class features to use this item, otherwise its useless

Is there any rules to back up either side?

In the Rise of the Rune Lord AP the party came across a library:

Quote:

This room contains the collected lore of the Therassic wizard-monks, one of Thassilon's greate st and most resp ected orders of scholars.

The central shaft contains the library's holdings. The walls of the shaft, 30' wide and 50' deep, contain shelf after shelf of books, scrolls, tablets, and other means of storing information. All of these books are
written in Thassilonian, and thanks to the chamber's preservative effects, all are in excellent condition.
The subjects cover all facets of Thassilonian life this chamber represents perhaps the single greatest repository of lore fr om this nearly forgotten age on all of Golarion, and as such, if its existence were made public, it would become a magnet for all manner of scholars,
arcanists, and thieves from around the world.

Which included a clockwork librarian who knows everything about the library...

Quote:

It addresses the newcomers in Thassilonian, asking, "Which volume of lore would you like me to retrieve for you? There are currently 24,491 volumes, scrolls, pamphlets, and unbound manuscripts available. Please indicate your wish by author, title, subject, or date of

acquisition by the Therassic Monastery?".

The PCs are past this part but had befriended the sentient clockwork golem (they named him Thassal) and repaired him to full working conditions (craft construct feat & craft clockwork skill) they brought him some blank books and 160 vials of ink (and some basic books on the common language) and set him to start copying the books based on what the librarian believed were the most expensive (the books fall apart if they leave the library).

Thassal is copying the books into draconic (the other choice would have been elven).

So the question is: How much is a copy of a 10,000 year old book worth? The librarian is picking his most expensive book to copy first(has appraise +14).

(Edit: maybe I should have posted this in advice.....)

Is there a spell or magical item that allows someone to gain the ability to write in a language they wouldn't normally know?

There are spells and items that grant you the ability to read/understand a language, but do you also gain the ability to write in those languages? I always figured the magic transformed the language into something you understood, but didn't actually grant you the knowledge of the language.
