Female Half Elf Future Storm Kindler
![]() Ah, I found my notes. O.k, so Skyla was planning to enter into the Storm Kindler PrC, but since the release of the Advanced Class Guide, the Warpriest actually synergies slightly better. Can I change Skyla from a Druid 1 into a Warpriest 1 instead? It feels a more thematic fit for her. ![]()
Female Half Elf Future Storm Kindler
![]() Looks like we have Arthur (Our Oracle), Svalk (Our Fighter), and Skyla (Our Druid) all here and active. Vladlena and Satinder both quit, and I think Tal left not long after. If you want better party balance I can switch Skyla to a Skald (which is now released under ACG) which covers most skills and gives a little more arcane magic but I'll leave that up to you. Its good to have you back, and feeling better(?). ![]()

![]() Firstly: Congrats!

Female Half Elf Future Storm Kindler
![]() Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 Skyla brightens slightly, with one hand still clutching her flower as the bells toll. "Oh of course, I had no idea that your family would be so involved with the festival, although now I think about it that does make a lot of sense...but really, I would simply move it if showed me what your father has planned, I do enjoy a good surprise! ![]()
Female Half Elf Future Storm Kindler
![]() "Thats very kind of you", Skyla remarks as she takes the flower with care. After hearing the young man visibly struggle with his words, Meditrina raises her hand, forestalling the awkward torrent. "I'd be happy for you to show me around the festival...its my first time after all" After walking with him for a few paces, Skyla thinks back to what the youth said. "So, who exactly is your father?" GM can I roll Sense Motive on him? ![]()
Female Half Elf Future Storm Kindler
![]() Skyla feels slightly flustered. She certainly didn't expect one of the Sczarni to boldly approach her in the street, offer an apology, and kindly give her a polite welcome. She takes the hand, returning the man's charming smile with her own, uncertain one. "You can call me Skyla and I accept your apology, it was quite...honorable of you to apologise for your friends mistakes, so thank you for that" Skyla tilts her head to one side slightly "Did you seek me out just to say sorry?" ![]()

![]() Skyla finishes up her breakfast, and inclines her head in gratitude to Ameiko. Eyes closed, she concentrates for a second, quickly determining what the weather will look like for the next 24 hours. Flashing a smile to Ameiko, she makes her excuses and heads out of the tavern, intending on buying a small potted plant, either to plant alone after the festival, or to take back home, and plant it for her garden. Once on the streets, she stays alert, not quite expecting to find the person who spiked her drink, but ready for action if she does spot him out and about. ![]()
Female Half Elf Future Storm Kindler
![]() Skyla flushed a little with embarrassment, but also counted her lucky stars..the way her luck could have gone, it could have been a lot worse. She smiled at Ameiko, and mouthed the words "Thank You", while she considered tracking down the unfortunate Sczarni and giving him a piece of her mind. ![]()
Female Half Elf Future Storm Kindler
![]() No such thing as "too long" I'm afraid! As far as events progress, I'm happy either way, but I think that at this stage of the game, I wouldn't really consider us a "group" yet, and most of us have personal opinions, desires, interests, things to do etc which makes it perfectly fine for events to be directed to the individual. Quote: I didn't with Skyla because I am assuming that she is disguising herself as human, given her backstory. This is 100% true, she feels very self-conscious about being a sylph, with good reason I guess. ![]()
Female Half Elf Future Storm Kindler
![]() Skyla's eyes flutter open, and she groans slightly as she feels a headache start to build. She knew that she always stuck to water whenever she was in town, so the fact that she was feeling this bad meant she had either picked up someone elses drink...or someone else had changed hers. Grumbling to herself, Skyla wriggles out of the sheets, and quickly strips, using Create Water to wash herself, as well as flatten her long hair, which had threatened to become unruly. Her stomach rumbling, Skyla dresses quickly, and navigates the stairs without too much difficulty, as she lightly requests some food, shortly after she sees a man sitting next to her, ask the elf the same thing. ![]()
![]() Sure you can take Archmage! That said, the majority of Archmage path abilities are geared toward Wizards, Witches, Sorcerers and Magus, so your Fighter couldn't really make much use out of some powers such as the Archmage "Channel Power" path ability, or the Arcane Metamastery Path. You could however, use the Mirror Dodge Archmage ability, because its not "Magic Specific", if you get my drift. Sadly, your fighter won't get the ability to cast spells, simply because Mythic doesn't really give a non magic class the ability to use Magic. If you want, you can even take TWO Mythic Paths via the Mythic Feat "Dual Path", which lets you join a SECOND Mythic Path (so you could be a
So I guess to answer your question, you are by no means forced into a Mythic Path, you have the freedom to choose. That said. if you went for something like Hierophant (for example), you would have a smaller selection of Mythic Path abilities to pick from, because Mythic paths do not generally grant you the ability to Channel / Cast Spells / Weapon Proficiency / Get an Animal Companion, they are geared more to upgrading your existing class features / strengths. I do hope I explained that well enough lol. EDIT trawets71 did a good job explaining it ![]()
![]() So glad I got selected, although a little sad that some amazing characters I roleplayed with didn't get in :( That said, best of luck to everyone in the WotR group, its a truly fun AP, and has a very "epic" feel. Svalk - I wouldn't worry about Mythic too much, since it has something for everything, but if you want advice on something, I would be happy to help. ![]()
![]() Ultimately its down to whatever you best prefer GM however, assuming you are ok with either option, then my personal preference would be a second RotRL group, mostly because I am already in a RoW group, and there is an existing CC recruitment ongoing, and I'd feel a little guilty applying for both. Likewise, I'd feel better switching characters if we did a different AP, and I sorta like Skyla, so RotRL remains my preference. ![]()
![]() Skyla doesn't know whether to be relieved that her old master, and the giants are not in the immediate area, or feel slightly disappointed that she lacks an opportunity to take her revenge, so she settles for a combination of the two. "That is indeed...good news" she manages to get out, absentmindedly fiddling with a sprig of mistletoe in her pocket Calling it a night, but might see if I can rp some more in 10-12 hours or so assuming I can spare some free time ![]()
![]() Response to Therana "Oh, mostly the festival", Skyla remarks casually "Although I do like to pop into Sandpoint occasionally, just to get a sense for what's happening in the area, for instance, if there is any recent giant activity, or slavers resuming operations...that sort of thing". She hesitates for just a second "And you, what brings someone such as yourself to Sandpoint?" On Options In general, I don't mind a second group of RotRL, or an alternate campaign, although if I played in a different campaign, I would potentially pick an entirely different character (most likely a Heavens Oracle). Likewise, if the new AP was something such as RoW, then I would potentially drop out altogether, since I'm already involved in a RoW AP, and two characters, for the same AP, at similar points...well I think I would just get confused! So basically, I don't mind what option we go for, JR or RotRL would work fine, although currently character wise I would only plan to use Skyla for the RotRL AP, and would go for something different if selected for a Jade Regent AP. I have heard great things about both of these campaigns, so wouldn't really mind how things turned out. ![]()
![]() Skyla jumps slightly, as Satinger addresses her, before attempting to brush it off and defuse the situation "I simply misspoke earlier, a crack in the glass, nothing more" Skyla succeeds in quickly cleaning up the water on the floor, before smiling gratefully at the raven haired women's invitation "I might take you up on that offer" she says with a slightly sheepish look on her face "It wouldn't do for me to make even more of a fool of myself now would it?" Hunting around for an unbroken, unattended glass, Skyla quickly locates on, and fills it again with water. "My name is Skyla", shes says by way of an introduction before addressing her and anyone else privy to the conversation "and your names are...?" Wishing you all the very best of luck, there are so many outstanding characters here ![]()
![]() "No, no please, I can do it", Skyla replies to Emyralda, her skin lightly flushed slightly at the spectacle she had made of herself as she quickly bends down to carefully pick up the shards of broken glass. She pauses, before looking up at Emyralda, wondering if she accidently caused offence by refusing help, and smiles apologetically, "Actually, if there is a rag or something similar nearby, I could use it to clean up the water" As she looks up, she notices several patrons staring at her, so she tries to flash a quick, comfortable smile to set their fears at rest. Bluff: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17 "Nothing to worry about here, I just dropped my drink", she attempts to say confidently I suppose thats a lie so bluff: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4 Unfortunately the anxiety, as well as the stress of the situation must have gotten to her, as her voice noticeably shakes. ![]()
![]() As Skyla continues to "scan" the crowd (still with an eye on Talori), her eyes lock onto a man dressed in purple and black, with dark eyes... almost predatory eyes. Skyla's fingers curled into a fist, as she recalled her masters eyes containing the same amount of humanity (or lack thereof) as her left hand trembled. Suddenly, there was a cracking noise, and her glass shattered, the water cascading onto the floor, some of it catching her leg. Startled, Skyla dropped her focus, and examined her hands, checking for scratches or cuts. ![]()
![]() Skyla stepped out onto the road into Sandpoint, grimacing inwardly at her decision to wear boots. In general, there was nothing Skyla liked more than running around barefoot, but on her last trip into Sandpoint, the stony ground had made it hard going, and she decided to do the practical thing and wear proper footwear. As she walked, she felt a small breeze caress her hair and she closed her eyes in appreciation, before looking up longingly at the sky, and the wide open spaces available high above. I was born to do that, she thinks, before striking out onto the road. Eventually, Skyla reached Sandpoint by about lunchtime, and began making her way towards the Tavern, in the hope that more information on giants might turn up. On the way, she almost tripped over two young boys playing in the street. The sight looked so normal, so...easy, that Skyla felt a flash of irritation at how unfair it all was, before she quickly stamped the feeling out, inwardly chastising herself for thinking in such a way. Skyla stepped through the doors of the Tavern, and was instantly beset by the typical sights and smells such an establishment had to offer. Skyla was prepared for the smell, but was utterly unprepared with the sheer number of people in the Tavern. The loud noises, the press of people, and the unfamiliar smells effectively assaulted her senses, and Skyla felt a little pulse of anxiety at being thrown into a situation that had everything she had little exposure to. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Skyla reached for an empty mug, before muttering a few words, filling it with clear water, before drinking deeply from it. As she drank, her eyes swept the crowd, making a note on who were the patrons to stay clear of, and who might be the more approachable ones. Perception Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 Suddenly however, she saw 4 men falling to the ground, utterly unaided. Sense Motive on crowd for cause of unconscious men: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 Surprised, Skyla sweeps the room, before her eyes lock onto a purple haired female. Skyla considers going over, but she worries her presence would be an imposition, nor does she want to tangle with someone who appears to have taken down 4 men unaided, for the sake of people she does'n't know. Content to watch simply for now, Skyla keeps on eye on the female, preparing to step in if a repeat performance should strike other patrons. ![]()
![]() When someone says that someone has "lost their humanity", it frequently can be interpreted as lacking in mercy or kindness. This looks like Wrath to me (from looking at some of the examples the GM gave us). Alternatively, you could make a claim for envy / greed due to his impoverished lifestyle. For Virtues...you could try going for Zeal. Personally, your character looks like he enjoys the search for knowledge and power, and thus you can apply his drive, his energy for power as "Zeal", and roleplay that out as a virtue. ![]()
![]() Yea most GMs feel comfortable with Core Only Races which is totally fine but it takes away some really cool archetypes :( Anyway, thank you so much for the feedback, you are 100% correct that I saw Envy as wanting material wealth, and I totally ignored the other types of envy. I think Skyla could easily covert the happy lives other people had, for instance none of them were enslaved, many of them actually had proper family relationships, friends etc, and I think Skyla misses this a little, although I'm not sure she could admit that to herself yet. Assuming the GM (and players assuming I even make it in), would be ok with this interpretation, I think I'll make my dominant Sin being Envy. Once again, thanks so much for taking the time to post and give your own advice on my character, it means a lot. I wish you the best of luck in getting in! ![]()
![]() This is Skyla Vanadevata, sylph Sky Druid, bane of giants and slavers everywhere Sorry for the length of the Backstory, I like tying up traits and story feats together into a backstory, and it sort of ran away with me Backstory:
Skyla Vanadevata was always a curious child, even for a sylph. She was raised by her human mother, never knowing who her father actually was, but as a young girl she poked her nose everywhere, determined to know everything, while keeping her sylph qualities secret. She told her mother that she felt that knowledge in as of itself would protect her, after all, forewarned is forearmed, however, she failed to comprehend the value of true privacy, and as such, she was quickly singled out and bullied by the other children, fearful of the power she might hold over them with the information she might have gleaned. Things only got worse when she, and the other children got older, and they discovered that Skyla had the potential to forecast the weather, leading to even more teasing. Things finally came to a head when a boy snuck in and spied on her as she was changing, seeing her blue markings on her body and realising that she was a sylph. The teasing that followed reduced Skyla to tears, and she ran away to be alone. Unfortunately, luck was not with Skyla, in her attempts to be alone, she found herself isolated when she ran afoul of a group of slavers operating in the area, who were not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, and added her to their group of captives. This period marked an incredibly low point for Skyla, as she was sold to a cruel owner and acted as a servant while her owner hinted at more lewd suggestions. By night, assuming she was not confined to her owner’s room, she was shackled in a dark room with close walls, where she would dream of wide open spaces. Things continued in this way for quite a long time, but Skyla remained alert for a way of escape, and was rewarded when she brought refreshment to her master while he was entertaining a close friend of his. Skyla’s eyes light up at the sight of a spring of mistletoe on his person due to a religious ceremony , and succeeded in staying within close proximity to this friend, outwardly the dutiful servant but attempting to convey a more carnal interest. Skyla was lucky that such thoughts were never far from her master’s mind, and thus was quite happy to loan her out for a night, totally unaware that Skyla had access to her own branch of magic should she get an opportunity to use it. Late that night, Skyla stole the mistletoe, and succeeded in hiding it. A few days later, after she was chained up again, Skyla unleashed her magic, escaping her bonds and fleeing into the night. Now free, Skyla was desperate to return home, and returned there is the first opportunity, only to return to discover it utterly destroyed by a collection of giants. With her mother nowhere to be found, and presumed dead, Skyla struck out on her own yet again, swearing vengeance against the giants that had destroyed the only true home she had, and against the slavers that had taken her away and made her life hell. Skyla eventually settled on her own on the outskirts of Sandpoint, close enough to flee there if she encountered enemies beyond her power, or otherwise needed aid but far enough away for her to enjoy the wild open spaces, the wind in her hair, the sight of a river and so on. She walks into Sandpoint occasionally if she is lacking a crucial supply, or to gather information if there are giants or slavers operating in the area. Currently, she is in Sandpoint for the Swallowtail Festival, which she thought an appropriate way of celebrating the start of autumn. Below is her Crunch. I'll add in starting equipment (Druids don't need / get much anyway) if I get selected, otherwise everything should be in order Crunch:
Skyla Vanadevata
Here is her planned party role Party Role:
In general, Skyla would assist in battlefield control, with Summon Natures Ally, or spells such as Entangle. I plan to stick mostly with air / wind / weather spells mostly for flavor, but would take spells like Heal and so on to assist with the party. She would enjoy wildshaping into an Air Elemental most of all if the opportunity presented itself. She also has no problem going Mythic if the campaign goes for that long (and if she survives that long). As a player I don't mind mythic, having played in a few mythic campaigns outside of the paizo boards, and found it pretty fun. Mostly, I think she would play a support role alternating between healing spells, battlefield control, or beneficial spells such as Freedom. Appearance and Personality is also below. Appearance and Personality:
Skyla naturally is suspicious of new people she doesn't know, having experienced some of the nastier actions of what people are capable of. She reserves true hatred though for Giants and Slavers. naturally, she prefers to free slaves that come across her path, but currently doesn't feel confident in her abilities to actually go seeking them out, as she isn't naturally confident. Likewise, in most social situations, shes fairly shy, mostly due to being fairly isolated from others. As far as looks go, at first glance Skyla looks like a fairly pretty humanoid, with delicate features and long silvery blonde hair that she lets fall down to her shoulders. That said, underneath her clothes, Skyla has mystical blue markings around her body, and thus often wears clothes with long sleeves to hide this, as she feels self conscious about her sylph heritage. Plot Hooks:
O.k, so I left a few Plot hooks open if you like that sort of thing. Don't feel the need to resolve all or even any of them, I just included them if you wanted to have some more options. For instance, its entirely possible for Skyla to learn who her actual father is, if her mother is still alive, if she meets up with the giants that destroyed her village, her old master, or perhaps the original slavers that captured her, are all things she could get involved with. I'm not overly familiar with the Adventure Path however (besides reading the Players Guide), so I apologise if any of all of these are beyond the scope of the adventure. On Virtue and Sin Selection:
O.k, so my backstory opens up a number of sins / virtues my character could be affected by, and I am loath to only pick one. Would particularly welcome GM or even other players (potential or otherwise), input on what they think best fits. For Sin, I really think she could go Wrathful if she encountered those that had hurt her. I don't think she would torture (MAYBE her previous master), but she could certainly consider killing. An alternate I thought about would be Lust as a psychological and emotional side effect of her enslavement, although I doubt she would actively "seek out" Lust, unless she was enslaved again I guess. For Virtue, I think Humility best suits such a shy person such as her, although roleplaying the Love virtue, or the Kindness virtue would be hugely fun, especially if I went with the reverse Sin, and feel the push/pull aspect of both. Lastly, if anyone has anything further they would like me to explain, or add I have no problems at all doing so. This is a character thats pretty dear to me, its just difficult to find GMs that allow obscure races such as a Sylph in their games! |
