Skitter hits the ground in a churning motion of legs and joins Jofram under the notice of the Wraith. He lashes out at the misty beast with his claws. Unfortunately, the Wraith evades his blow.

I'm going to skip ahead here, just to get things moving since it will take both Strae and Skitter two rounds to extract themselves safely.

Their victims vanished or escaped, the Shadows set about their strange affairs - some sullenly sink into the floor or wall like a fog. Others cautiously fly towards the exit, hungering for their escaped prey, others mill around. Only the Mastiffs are unrelenting. And they focus their energy on the only victim they can attack - the strange crab-like box skittering towards the exit.

From the boat, our heroes see two Mastiff's charge Skitter, biting at him and then flipping him over. The little construct, in a frenzy of claws, rights himself and is again set upon of by the dark brutes. Their jaws snap at the little fellow who slowly backs up while fending them off with a flurry of furtive moves and waving claws. Skitter leaps backwards into the safety of the boat. He is only slightly dented and gooey with Mastiff spit.

Skitter rights himself drawing another feral snap from the Mastiff. The blow fails to dent his body and the little crab scuttles for the exit, not willing to test his potential immunity to a set of dual Fireballs.

Skitter watches his mistress flee and, perplexed, has to determine his own course.

Given the meatsack propensity to guard their own... he opts to follow that course. He lashes out at the Shadow next to him, burying his claws in the shadowy foot three times in quick succession, then he retreats.

Dropped in the spot Ushari exited, the small crabbed construct leaps at the slavering hound closing in on his mistress and drives a set of claws into the creature's fanged snout.

I thought you had Skitter with you... but we can play it through either way.

Ushari races upstairs and into her room. There is no sound of crickets. She is greeted, once she has closed the door, with Skitter who clings like a vengeful crab above the doorframe - guarding the room. He hits her with a shrill set of squeaks.

Skitter sounds a rising arpeggio that ends in a dull-knife-across-a-chalkboard screech. Every rat-eared bastard in the tavern winces under the aural onslaught - opening up an opportunity to strike.

OK, it is AoO FEST! Every beastie with a White halo can be struck with whatever AoOs you have left. It looks to me like Jayse, Jofram, and Ushari's Ally have shots. So give me the coordinates of your victims and start rollin'. :)

The little crab hits the floor and emits an escalating harmonic tone that quickly leaps into an ultrasonic frequency. Every rat and were-rat winces as the painful sound knifes into their sensitive ears. But the discipline of the enemies is such that only two of the dire rats jump, providing opportunities for attack.

Jayse and Jofram have up to two AoOs each (assuming you get that many) against dire rats.

Seeing that blades seem to bite less into the titanic creature's hide, Skitter regards his claws...

Skitter puzzles on what to do. He leaps on the Monk and sets up sonic vibrations in the monk's body before dropping to the ground setting off a plinky musical racket and bouncing back and forth, attempting to draw the Beehmoth's attention.

Jayse - all of your unarmed attacks now do +1d6 sonic damage per hit for the next minute.

Skitter takes advantage of the swirling battle between Jayse and Dinwat to sink a claw into the Necromancer again. Yet again, Dinwat's concentration holds.

Skitter rather enjoys the sense of flying, although the raptor claws possibly scratching his lustrous surface is a little irritating. He taps the eagle on the foot, indicating the optimal release point. He needn't have bothered. As a veteran aerial hunter, the Eagle knows more about how to dive on a target than he possibly could.

In moment, Skitter finds himself falling free and rocketing down on the cowled necromancer. He extends his claws forward, hoping to skewer the bastard through the eye.

Skitter is delighted at the squeak of pain from the Necromancer when he rams his claw into the spellcaster's neck!

Skitter is used to being overlooked but he is irked when the Grey decides to leisurely eat the gnoll in front of him.

The littlest party member deploys blades and like a maniacal lawnmower, begins to plow through the vines with efficiency.


Skitter leaps on the unconscious hyena and ends its existence.


The metallic crab hamstrings and slays the gnoll AU28 that already bore wounds from the odd little construct.

Skitter perches on her shoulder and hrumphs at the idea that he is anything ever less than completely ready.

Vaelos gives an uncertain chirp. Reflecting on his instructions to his companion, Jofram realises that had the bird spotted the gnoll, he would have maintained a hovering surveillance. As soon as the door is opened, the eagle launches out, flaps hard for altitude, and circles. Our heroes step out into the street followed by Hern and Dinwat. Vaelos makes a set of straight line, sweeping dives in a particular direction, much as he did in the lumber office. He's pointing almost directly Northeast.

Their course set, our heroes head along the road out of town, past the site of the latest abduction, and following the gnoll tracks deep into the primeval forest...

Vaelos winds through the trees, leading you Northeast at a brisk pace. As you jog along, the forest thickens and the ground becomes more spongy. The trees seem to whisper and there is an almost cathedral hush to the place. Vaelos lights on tree branches and waits for you all to catch up. At one point, he launches himself straight up, hurling through the vault-like canopy of branches, circles a bit, as if checking his direction and then drops like a stone back through the canopy. He accidentally rousts a partridge who dies in an explosion of feathers from the agile hunter.

After a mile, Vaelos continues leading you Northeast but it is clear to the ranger that the gnoll prints veer sharply Southeast. When you stop to consider this, Vaelos screeches and flies back - dropping onto a thick branch. He ruffles his feathers and waits.

Skitter stands amid the all but unidentifiable remnants of the final worm. It looks like the remains of a messy crab boil - all shredded flesh, torn limbs, and finger-nail sized shell bits. The tiny metal box thinks to himself. Well, that was interesting.

Belatedly, he scuttles along after his mistress back into the tavern...


Skitter's claws dig into the creature's carapace as he squeaks his victory song - one claw buried in the eye cluster of the brute!

Ushari barrels through the window at full speed, rolling to her feet in a shower of glass and bent metal - 'safe' inside the Slattern.

Skitter watches the activities. If a construct could wince, he would. At one point, he dives off the bedpost onto the floor hoping to stun himself - a temporary reprieve from the assault on his senses inflicted by their biologic imperatives.

He squeaks quietly :: My eyes. MY EYES! ::

The little crab scuttles around. Finding a fork on the floor, he tries to figure out some way to gouge out his mechanical eyes. If only I had opposable thumbs!


Skitter regards the blonde cleric.

The little crab-like creature shakes itself at the notion then glowers at its mistress.

Skitter gives her a jaunty salute with his claw, hops down, and moves towards the room...


Skitter leaps off the monk and sets up a sonic vibration in his own claws.


In his small clockwork mind, Skitter debates what to do. His mistress didn't give him further orders aside from freeing the big horse. His wiry little eyebrows furrow... and he leaps at the rampaging giant with a mighty squeak.

Giant flesh that has repelled the blades of large warriors cannot withstand the assault of the smallest party member!

Jayse's precise blow is deflected by the giant's club.
Ushari dazzles the ogre next to her with a single touch.

Skitter mounts the tree and slashes through the final rope restraining the unicorn.

Skitter runs around the periphery of the battlefield, trying to get to the final rope holding the unicorn while avoiding the hooves, feet, and weapons of all these lumbering giants.


Skitter saws through the rope. It snaps audibly. He immediately jumps down and proceeds north looking for another rope to sever.

Skitter scuttles up the trunk and leaps on the thick rope. His bladed legs slash at the tangled strands, making headway but not quite severing the line. He chirps in irritation.

Ushari tosses the plucky little box down which bounces on its bladed legs and scuttles forward looking to free the bound unicorn. Ushari casts her spell and the giant freezes in the act of picking up a rock the size of a small moon!

Big thumbs up on that tactic, FYI.


Once activated, Skitter's legs pop out and he throws a snappy salute to Ushari with this fore-claw. He lets out a brief squeak-squeal. It occurs to Ushari that Skitter may be speaking an actual language... one she could learn.


Skitter, undeterred, slashes ineffectively at the pirate leader and gets a boot for his trouble.

Skitter comes out from the beneath the trees and leaps on the back of the pirate leader nearest Jayse. Sadly, he misses.

As Wink binds his mistress, Skitter hunched like a predatory crab on her chest slashes at the pirate's hands, delivering a knuckle-cutting slash. As Wink backs up, his job finished, the metal crustacean leaps in his face, slashing at his eyes. The pirate shrieks at the assault.

Ushari hits the ground with an audible whoosh of air and Skitters pops loose, his claws springing out. He sees the pirates closing on his mistress, clicks angrily while rubbing his bladed claws together... then LEAPS! But the wily pirate deflects his blow.

"What in the Nine Hells is that thing?!"

Skitter hustles across the sand but is unable to close with the supernaturally mobile Spirit.

Skitter leaps at the vile creature once again but misses by a hair's breadth.

Like a demented arthropodic dune buggy, Skitter takes off across the sand. He tightly circles the evil harpy who spins on him and delivers a leisurely kick. Skitter ducks the blow then launches at her face, putting a crease in her cheek.
