Hey guys, sorry about my absense! I had stuff get in the way IRL that prevented me from hopping on.

Before I had things get in the way that prevented me from getting on, though, I spoke to Brimleydower, and he gave me the go ahead. I will be abandoning Viktor and making a new character to replace him. As you are all aware, I have been less than active in this campaign, and that is because I have a hard time getting 'in character' for Viktor - not to mention, he doesn't get along with ANYONE, which doesn't really bode well for the long term.

So, though I haven't yet decided on my character (Thinking Wizard or Witch, though I briefly gave Investigator a thought), I will be bringing in a new guy soonish, and start actually being active in this campaign.

And Viktor sadly doesn't know s@$@ about magic, thus isn't the best one to explain it. XD

Viktor shakes his head, "No, no sign of the Knight Lord. We discovered a corpse of a woman not far from here, however - she appeared to have taken her own life due to some sort of magical compulsion. The Priest - Nathmir - would be more apt to explaining the phenomenon. My magical knowledge is lacking, sadly." At that, Viktor sheathes his sword and looks down at the captured guardsman, shaking his head.

Failing to grapple his insane foe, Viktor curses and spits on the ground, before instead attempting to maneuver himself in front of the madman, allowing his ally a better chance at hitting him.

However, thanks in part to the rain, Viktor slips slightly, causing his balance to shift incorrectly, negating any attempt he had at distracting the foe long enough for Arzazel to improve his attack.

Seeing the guard disarmed, stunned, and dazed, Viktor shouts out a command. "Subdue! Do not kill this one! He's still one of ours, and he might be saved! Someone help me get him on the ground!" And with that, Viktor lunges at the man, attempting to forcibly grab on to him - but ends up slipping in a puddle just as he lunges, causing him to miss his target, nearly falling over face first in the process.

"You shall not flank me, mongrel!" Viktor, annoyed that he is being flanked, decides to turn the table, stepping out from between the being made of smoke and the renegade guard. Instead, he maneuvers himself to flank the beast of smoke along with Arzazel - before taking his blade and, after infusing it with some of his arcane knowledge, swinging wildly in hopes of killing it.

Momentarily losing his nerve at the guard's force of personality, Viktor instead attempts to bolster himself and the others with a rallying cry. Holding his temporarily-owned cold iron blade up high, Viktor yells with as firm a voice he can muster, "Stand firm, soldiers of Molthune! Heed not this mad-man's words! His mind is not his own! Slay these fiends that follow him and subdue him! We will not lose another man this day!" Without a thought, he moves quickly, taking a small detour around the insane guard and approaches him from the opposite side of where the smoke-thing stands.

A few moments earlier, in response to Arzazel...

Viktor stands outside in the pouring rain alongside Arzazel and Zeltresh. Despite the two being demi-humans and needing to be kept an eye on, Viktor had yet to have any issues with them - the same cannot be said for his fellow human Eldred, who had gone inside along with the priest of Nethys.

Though keeping quiet, apparently deep in thought at the disturbing events, Viktor snaps up at Arzazel's question. "Commissar, not Captain. And I do not know why they abandoned the Bulwark - doing so disturbs me greatly. No such orders seemed to have been given as far as I am aware - nor have I heard of any intent to do so. As much as it pains me to say it, I am completely in the dark as to what is going on." This admission of his only makes him more frustrated, though he hides it well.

----------------------------------

Back to the present...

Viktor's head snaps to the south upon hearing yelling. "Orcs?" His gaze momentarily shifts over Arzazel, linking the half-orc to his full-blooded brethren, and taking into consideration his demi-human status.

"Your kin, perhaps?"

Actually Nathmir, Viktor doesn't hate you - he just considers magic to be your area of expertise, not his. He doesn't even hate Eldred, though he is annoyed at the man. Hate does not play a role in Viktor's thought process, except against Nirmathi scum.

Eyes narrowing at Eldred's tone and attitude, Viktor takes the blade and letter, stuffing the latter in his coat and tying the former to his belt. Insubordinate son of a- He is trying to get me riled up and pull something. I've seen his type before. Angry at authority, likely due to punishment recieved.. or due to his blaming of authority due to one or more of his comrades' deaths. He's too focused inwards, not on what is at stake. Too focused on memories.

Taking a search through the rest of the backpack, Viktor then ties the horn to his belt; The bulls-eye lantern and the mostly-empty backpack, however, he places on a barrel, should anyone need it. As Eldred begins to hum, Viktor immediately recognizes it. Ramgate, eh? I see, then.

"Unless there is anything else anyone wishes to do here, the priest is right. We need to move."

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 Using this to see how well Viktor can judge Eldred through empathy.

Remaining silent at the discovery, thoughts run through Viktor's head at what could have happened. He isn't a particular expert at magicical know-how, but he values such knowledge anyways. Enchantment, Illusion, Conjuration? I've the basics of what those can do individually.. Enchantment in particular.. bah, let the priest think on it, that is his job, not mine.

"I will take the letter, and after we are through here, I will attempt to locate her family and contact them with the news of her passing. Though her death is.. unusual.. she died in service to her country, and should be honored thusly. Her sword should also be returned - I would carry that as well. In the mean time, it could be of use to us." Sheathing his own rapier, he holds his hand out to the gunslinger to see if the man would comply, or Viktor would have to add yet another thing to argue about once this was over with. "The rest of her gear should be used as necessary, as none of it seems to be of particular note. Waste not resources that are given."

Rereading the Headstrong drawback, I don't think I needed to Rebuke Eldred after all - though, obviously, Viktor would be angry. He's just decided to save it until after they've figured out whats going on. Should you deem that I would be Shaken due to the drawback after all (I won't argue the case), let me know.

Despite his anger towards the gunslinger, Viktor nods at his intentions - disagreements not-withstanding, the group has bigger things to worry about. The previous remarks can be handled properly when they have the time.

Allowing the more magically-inclined priest to examine the object, Viktor stays back, guarding the rear of the group. Between the downpour and the darkness, he cannot see worth a damn. He decides to brighten up the magical remnant by casting Dancing Lights, willing the four colorless-orbs to encircle the metallic object behind the barrels, illuminating it for all to see, as much as the rain would allow in any case.

"Hmph, this is what you get for not being prepared for any occasion at all times. I am ready for battle - but I agree, it would be best to retrieve your gear, lest you prove to be worthless in combat beyond being a piece of meat for the enemy to slice through as it attempts to get to the more useful members of the group." He speaks to no one in particular, though aims it towards everyone who were not equipped properly. As he speaks, he stands to the opening of the tent. "In addition, should any of you spellcasters know the spell Dancing Lights, you need to be aware of its usefulness with long-distance communication." He casts the spell, conjuring four red orbs of light in a diamond pattern. "Should any of us be separated, cast the spell directly above you as high as possible; Red Diamond indicates enemy contacts, immediate assistance required. Yellow Diamond indicates enemy contacts, assistance may be required. Green Diamond represents enemy contacts, no assistance required. And Blue Diamond represents no enemy contacts, but you wish to rendezvous. Remember that well, should we need to use it." Once finished speaking, he dismisses his spell and then steps out into the rain, defiantly ignoring what is doing to his pristine uniform. He looks back into the tent, one hand on his rapier, and looks at the men still inside. "Well then? We've wasted too much time dawdling about. MOVE OUT!"

...back a few moments before everyone started hearing gunshots..

Taking note of the guardsman's comments about Ser Eodric, but not commenting on them, Viktor instead focuses on the illegal contraband issue. "Illegal contraband outside the east gate? I haven't heard of such an incident. Good work, I'll investigate it whe-"

Viktor interrupts himself when he hears the half-orc speak up about gunfire. Looking over at the halfbreed in annoyance, not hearing any sort of gunfire himself, Viktor is about to scold Arzazel for speaking nonsense when the priest also speaks up about gunfire, confirming it. Far more willing to believe a priest, and a human, than a half-breed orc, Viktor stops himself from delivering his intended berating and instead goes to loosen his rapier, though he lets it remain in its scabbard for now.

Annoyed that Vincent got around to issuing orders before him, as he had been momentarily distracted by trying to hear the gunfire, Viktor finally pulls out his rapier, intending on joining the others.

"I hear nothing of gunfire - but unless I am in a tent filled with people hearing ghosts in the wind, there could very well be something going on. With most of the city enjoying the feast - and getting drunk at the same time, now would be the best time for Nirmathi scum to strike." Viktor looks over at Vincent, now a smug look on his face. "At least I had the initiative to stay in uniform. You would do well to learn from this, Vincent."

Having imbibed not a single drop of alcohol the entire night, Viktor is likely alone in sobriety beneath the pavilion - except, perhaps, for the lone guard remaining. Viktor had been drinking rainwater, chilled and flavored through plentiful use of Prestidigititation, a spell that Viktor is over-reliant on for simple comforts. He had already cleaned his uniform to perfection after entering the pavilion, and has been avoiding soiling it further by standing underneath one of the numerous holes that have now breached the pavilion's defenses.

Cursing beneath his breath at the poor manufacture, quality, and maintenance of the tent, Viktor stands alone, watching those around him with his iron gaze, keeping an especially close eye on the quasi-humans, as he would call them. The gnome, he watches for illusion and trickery - though he is well used to Vincent's use of such waste of magical talent, gnomes are known for being far more disruptive with such pranks. The halfing he watches for thievery - their kind are always up to no good, in Viktor's eyes. The half-orc he watches for signs of a drunken rage, having had to break up such fights in the past. Watching the 'brute' dilute his drink with rainwater relaxes Viktor only the tiniest amounts - he cannot be too careful, even if Arzazel isn't inebriated to a large extent. Luckily for Nathmir, Viktor has yet to realize his inhumane nature, and doesn't watch the priest with nearly as much scrutiny as the rest.

Having been quiet for far too long, Viktor walks over to the lone guard and, as casual as someone like Viktor can be, commends the soldier on his vigilance, using his inside voice to keep the discussion relatively between the two, also asking the guard if he has seen anything going on he should know about, asking of his rank, name, and other official business.

As he does so, Viktor's gaze never leaves the others, keeping them all - especially the 'quasi-humans', under his keen vigil.

As a non-crafter for once, I won't be making a vote for the crafting rules - though the latter sounds interesting by all means.

I'm fine with critical fumbles and whatnot - they can be interesting. Back in a Skull and Shackles campaign with friends, we were playing around with it, and one of my players caused internal bleeding with a raw fish thrown at someone.

Fumbling is particularly hilarious with NPCs and monsters - one time, we had a pirate crit himself to death. We were using the critical hit/fumble decks for those, very clear cut and not modified.

As for Leadership, I fully plan on taking it - I have no idea what kind of Cohort I'm aiming for, but probably some kind of soldier/bard who can help me lead armies.
