#1: How are you holding up? I'm glad to see you back online, but I'm still concerned. Because I'm a mother hen by nature.

Tomorrow is the visitation and funeral. I've had detached objectivity for the last week.

Mom had put half down on a new furnace. It's getting installed Monday morning. Meeting with lawyers that afternoon.

She had no will and had done no other estate/funeral planning. I'm...dealing...

But tomorrow is going to be rough.

Ugh! That was my mom. And she KNEW better. Sorry for what you are going through.

I'm having a rough day.

It's the anniversary of my dad's death. The thirteenth to be precise. We'd been out late at an inauguration party celebrating President Obama, and I had maybe three hours of sleep before I got the phone call that he'd been lost at sea. And last month was the fifteenth anniversary of our eldest son's death. So this winter has been hard. I almost posted an old photo of the two of them together on FB this morning, and didn't, because I still can't look at my son's pictures.

And I ran the numbers for the month after getting notice about WW's pay from the school district, and after taxes, well, unemployment was better. And no more advance child tax credit benefits. Things are going to suck for a while yet.

I can't take many more days like this.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully life improves sooner than later.

You're still around? I'd thought you'd succumbed to the cat allergies years ago. And either way, considering I'm officially middle-aged now, I was sure you'd be too elderly to remember me...

Speak up! I can't hear very good! You young whipper snappers! Who are you again?

edit - I shall call you soon(ish).

This forum is WAY too long.

I'm still undecided as to which of the following is true about FaWtL:

1) It is in fact a PBP that went off the rails.
or
2) It is all done by a single person in an attempt to mess with everyone else in the world.

Yes.

Ok. Beware of chicken on royalroad.com is freaking awesome. It took me a while to get to it but it was worth it.

This is my description of it. Isekai Chinese cultivation and martial arts meets Stardew valley. Oh, and there is a sentient rooster too.

~sad sigh~ Insulting but true.

So in other news, we are all more-or-less okay, but were in a serious car accident today. A kid who shouldn't have been driving ran a red light and hit us square in the side at full speed. He was entirely fine, but felt horrible about it. I really worry about him and how this will affect his future. Poor guy.

Firedove is coherent and seems to be doing reasonably well, but has a pelvic fracture. The boys are doing relatively well, though Youngest had to get three stitches on his face and the Eldest had to briefly get an IV to get scanned (the scans revealed no real problems).

Our kids currently staying at neighbors and doing well; Firedove is in the hospital for at least the weekend; we will see about surgery or not (it's not currently known). I'm home and told to sleep, but it's difficult. Don't know how available I'll be for a bit as a result. If you're the praying type, please do.

Love you all!

Ouch! That sucks! May you, the kids, and Lady Firedove get better soon.

This is a repeat, but it still fits.

All mushrooms are edible. Some are only edible once.

Three more days until my two week vacation. A vacation which nothing much will happen due to being broke. Oh well. Housework, playing video games, reading, watching TV, and hitting the nearby state parks. Could be worse. ~looks outside~ Oh. Right. Mowing the yard. Cutting down the trees that are growing before they get too big.

One other thing, get used to wearing both eye protection and a facemask. Some of the places that you will end up working at are NASTY. Your eyes and lungs will appreciate you guarding them. Good ear protection is also a must. And a good pair of gloves.

It's probably the biggest single decision I've ever made in my life.

Good luck! Pick up Ugly’s Electrical References, start to build up your own personal tool set, and YouTube and Google are your friends. Also, take good notes. You will thank yourself for it.

NH: A bad part or a good part?
IM: Oh, a bad part! But the house is right across from a police station, so if there's any trouble it'll be OK! Oh, and instead of starting at 2:30 pm, it's starting at 9:00 pm!

Gee... a late-night house party in a lower-tier* area of Oakland with a bunch of suburbanites in their early twenties abusing substances. What can possibly go wrong?

So, I went over signs to watch for, went over when it was time to get the heck of out there, and I'm letting him go anyway.

The entirety of the UK?

LOL. I was wondering whether you'd pipe up. On this side of the pond we get the "Skewd News", and it really does make every country outside of the U.S. sound like a Socialist H***hole o'Doom.

Just poking fun.

That's OK - from a superficial reading of our mainstream media, it'd be easy to assume that the US is entirely populated with angry, rotund Caucasian men with tiny beards either shooting people or threatening to do so (because it's their job, or just for a hobby), popular entertainers, and blonde women with fabulous hair who like crystals very much and are scared of vaccines...

So you have been to the South? You poor thing.

Just wait until you find out that the Baron is actually a weather-wizard and has caused the inclement weather in order to destroy all the crops, thus ensuring that you and all the other farmers will be unable to pay your taxes, allowing him to seize all your lands, homes, and other properties as well as placing you and your family into "indentured servitude" (essentially slavery), all so that he can claim an even larger share of the profits from the land. And, of course, the plague is a myth. Just rumors being spread so that he can enforce strict laws preventing you and your neighbors from being able to gather together and plot against him.

Curse this feudal society that I have been (re)born into!!!
