Yeah we will just have to move past. Sal if you come back in and we are still in combat feel free to take your turn. Garion's bow creaks and his arrow streaks across the trading post just barely missing the fleeing bandit as he scrambles across hard packed earth towards the ladders leading up to cat walk on the walls. At this distance about 40' he will make it up the ladder and out of the walls in the next few seconds. Which brings us back up to johnny boy
Ah I am blind. Initiative:
Bandit 1: 17
Johnny: 17 Garren: 15 Sal: 13 Bandit 2: 12 [8 damage] Leader: 11 [Dead] Bandit 3: 6 [Super Dead] The bandit that entered last screams out in pain as strikes at the bandits back peicing his armor. Salerons mighty charge meets it's target an destroys the mans chest as he lets out blood curtling howl. His lifeblood upon Salereon's Lance and pouring into the hard packed earth. The second bandit looks for a way to escape but with the gate closed he knows that his is trapped. He take up his bow and shouts a few curses at the Salereon and looses an arrow. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 31d8 ⇒ 8 Only to have his bow shatter as shards of wood and the bow string slash at his hands and face.
I always thought you got a full turn? How else would you charge during the surprise round? Turns I am wrong. Also an intimidate is a swift action if I am not mistaken. Which I am....again. I was thinking of Demoralize For the sake of time I am going to assume that Garren is aiming at the nearest bandit, which would be number 2. Also a link to the leader's image is in the discussion tab Johnny springs down and with a heave is able to swing the heavy doors closed with a heavy bang. The lead bandit turns towards the gate 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 then back to Oleg drawing his bow from it's quiver. "OI! What is the meaning of that punk jumping ar --"[ooc]I'm gonna roll for you Garren if that is ok. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 [/ooc He shouts but is cut off by the scream of one of his men as an arrow whistles past him. ] The brave knight Sir Saleron comes round the corner and proclaims his challenge only to be laughed at. The bandits all dismounts off of their horses their leader leaps down to the groud 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 with his bow drawn. Only to be struck by Garion from up on high.
So for PC's we have our order as
Time to roll my initiatives Leader: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (17) - 6 = 11
Once I get those two questions answered I will be able to watch this all go down. Edit 1: Added the rolled initiatives into the list.
Here is a working map I hope. A different look on Oleg's Trading Post. Also have you guys heard of Roll20.net? I use it with my IRL gaming group and it works well. I don't know what would happen if I tried it with you guys if we were not all on at the same time.
The night passes and Svetlana makes you all another nice meal with enough left over to act as bait to be left over the fire as bait. Oleg protests to having Svetlana take part in any type of combat and insists that she hides in the house. Oleg will stand by waiting for the bandits as he normally does. About an hour passes after sunrise and the sound of hooves can be heard far off. It draws closer and closer. As a group of men get to the trading post. The group of four men ride right through the door without even noticing anything different. I assume you all took 20's to conceal yourself since you had adequate time. The hooded figure in front rides in head tall right up to Oleg and in a raspy arrogant voice says "'Ello Old man what kinds of bits you got for us today. With that all of the bandits dismount. With that I believe you all roll initiative to see who goes first during your surprise rounds. I will work on a battle map tonight.
So I feel like a real piece of garbage for doing this but I don't think I'm going to be able to keep up to my own standards of daily posting. I got a shift change at work and am still recovering from a surgery last fall which requires about 2 hours in a gym. I'm willing to keep going, albeit at a slower pace, if you guys allow it. If not I can look for a replacement DM.
"Yes sorry I missed that. They will usually ride in and sling insults at us while they pack their horses up at the storeroom directly across from the main gate." Oleg walks over to the table and seats himself. "I have yet to be brash enough to actually try and fight them off but if I were to I would hide in the stables there." He points straight across from the tables then motions to the building next to the tables. "Or you could try and hide in the guest house and wait for them to start loading up."
"The first time they showed up was about 3 months ago. There were a dozen of them. 10 lower-ranking thugs led by a cloaked bowman, and a b+!*# with two small hatchets." He gives a heavy sigh. "The woman did the majority of the talking on that first visit. She threatened by Svetlana. Said horrible things about her to the men that were with her if we didn't turn over all of our goods. She was a cold women but smart. You could tell from the way she watched everything that happened. The man though seemed just like he wanted to cause harm. Although I'm sure that the thought of that wasn't too far from it. She tried to chop off my hand and then." He stops and spits on the ground. "That b*#*% she took my Svetlanas wedding ring right off her finger. Something about payment for not shortening my reach." A look of anger comes to his face. "Then they came back again and again but only that crude bowman. First with six then with four. They must think me a coward but I guess I am. I can't risk anything happening to my sweet wife. They should be arriving tomorrow. They usually get here around an hour after sunrise. Tomorrow is going to be the last day they take anything from me if you help."
"Just like the Lords in Restov send a group down and not even tell them of our struggles."He crosses his arms and grumbles and glares towards Salereon. Looking back to Johnny he says in a low humbled voice "It started about 3 months ago. We had a group of bandtis showed up on the first of the month. At first I thought that they were just some rough adventurer types until they demanded all of my stock. I refused and well let's just say I didn't have too much choice. I was told that Restov was going to send a detachment of guards but they have yet to show up and then you are here and have no idea what is going on."
The women looks to Salereon with a confused look. Then to the rest of the group. "Uh yes we have feed for you but I am confused. You are explorers? I thought you were sent to help us against the bandits?" She looks behind you and you can see that the man on the roof has descended to the courtyard. "You can still help us can't you?" Her voice becoming high with a sound of fear creeping into it. A gruff voice that of a man beaten down comes from the middle-aged man as he moves in to comfort the man. "Dear. Dear. Calm down I didn't tell you because I thought this may get your hopes up. They are here for what they said they were." He looks to the group not with anger but more contempt in his gaze."More than likely by morning they will be off without any knowledge we even needed their help. The women starts to wipe a few tears off he cheeks and walks off into their home ignoring any calls to her. The man turns to the group and sighs."I'm sorry for that she is just worried."
Which they are
"Oh hello there you must be the group who traveled with Edrich. Here come sit and enjoy some lunch I'm sure you traveled quite a ways." She starts to ladle out food into bowls and setting them at the table.
As you all start forward you would notice Edrich's wagon has turned and starting out the gate. As the he approaches your group he raises a hand. "Boys I just want to wish you luck. I'll probably be back around in a weeks time if you are interested in traveling back." In his hand you see a bowl. It's contents steaming and smelling quite delicious. He pace slows as your two groups come side it to side. To exchange a pleasant goodbye.
Edrich looks up from the cart to Garren. "I doubt they will be able to hear you from here or be too willing to come outside the walls to greet us. They haven't had it easy this far out." Before you stands an old border fort. An wooden palisades encircles the trading post. Each corner had as tall watchtower which from here you can see a catapult sitting atop each of the towers. The fort seems to be a combination of old strong works and new renovations. Parts of the all have new packing between the logs while other parts seem to have the original from when the structure was built. Just inside the walls you can see a few thatch roofs. The wind picks up and blows from the south up towards the road. The smell of something cooking and wood smoke can be smelled from here. The sun is starting to rise up high in the sky. Edrich sniffs at the air. "Ah one of Svetlana's creations I would bet. Maybe I will stop for sometime after all." The cart rolls up and down a road off of the main highway towards the gates which are open and Edrich motions to the party. "Hang back here for a moment I don't want to scare the Leveton's by having a group ride right into their yard. I will motion for you in a moment." And Edrich's cart starts to pull away from the group.
Ok it is just you keep having interactions and I don't want to cut anyone short mid converstation. So once the talk of Kobolds is over it will the be the rise of the fifth morning. Edrich sits listening to Garion's tale nodding at the proper points and grunting if needed. "That is a fine tale but those aren't like the kobolds that live deep in the woods. They have had a hard time with the bandit and in the woods." He shrugs. "Not that I have seen anything just talk from hunters and trappers that I have met while staying at Olegs. Any way I think it is time I see to my horses and get some sleep must be up at sunrise if I plan to make it all the way to the end of my journey in time." Edrich rises and say his good nights and walks off just outside of the light of the campfire. Darkness begins to fall in around you the warm spring days begin to be mixed with the cold spring nights.
The Elf looks towards Garren. "Five days barring any bad weather and no problems on the road which we shouldn't have. I bet if you just sit back and relax you will be there in no time and no son there isn't much of anything at Oleg's other than Oleg and his wife. You are heading into the wilds boy. Edrich points up ahead to a small clearing. That is where we will stay tonight just go gather up some firewood and we can rest easy.
"From what I hear everyone has a claim on those lands. Many young and old try to go down there and never come back. A associate of mine's brother died down there while looking for "arcane secrets and power". All I can say is that I hope you boys deal with them well they have been causing nothing but bloody trouble for us." He looks up toward the sky. After many hours of riding the sun has rose high up in the sky and is beginning to sink down to rest in the West. "Well it looks like it will be dark soon I know of site to rest for the night up ahead let's hurry on and get there soon." He urges the horses to quicken their pace and returns his gaze to the road.
After a short ride you reach the southern gate house to Restov. Large and strong like the walls that protect the city. Men stand abreast of the large entrance. The thick steel portcullis and the men's gleaming weapons and armor show that these men are ready to defend their home from any threat. An elf sits upon a cart looking very impatient. Salereon you would know whom this is As soon as he sees your group riding up he shouts out "About time I was worried you were going to leave me waiting. The sun is almost up so let's set off." An he snaps the reigns on the two large workhorses and the cart starts to slowly pull out through the gates. With a curt nod to the guardsmen he passes through and starts down South Rostland Road. The elf rides silently only responding with grunts and shrugs to any questions leveled towards him. A few hours into the journey he finally speaks. You men are not like the normal folk I see on this road. What are you? |
