Yeah that was a slick move Saendithas.

LOL Would love to take credit for it, but I learned it in another game I'm playing in.

I dotted and deleted, so I show up on both the player and characters lists.

USA, EST here.

Hey Saendithas can you copy your sheet into your profile? DnDbeyod should output a statblock type format I'm pretty sure.

Won't be able to get to it today, but sure, I planned on retyping it into my profile. :D

* huge grin * Perfect.

While we're discussing voices, at least for a start, until I warm up to writing in Saendithas' "voice", I'm basing his sound and speech patterns of of James Spader. (Reddington on Blacklist, Alan Shore on Boston Legal, or if you don't know those, Ultron in Age of Ultron). Might not stay there, but the idea amuses me. :D

Ok, that looks good to me. I think my character likes Gnomes, and might enjoy talking to someone like that. I'm not sure how interested in Chronurgy she would be though, maybe she tried it a bit but didn't have much talent for it?

What would your relationship with him be like?

My thought was that Saendithas would be grudgingly drawn to the gnome, more out of curiosity and wonder than anything else. Though a bit arrogant at times, Saen is a child of magic, and will be in awe of this "new" school of study that he doesn't understand while at the same time be being told he has an aptitude for it by Hadzranl. I picture him (the gnome) as charming in an odd way, yoda-ish without the odd speech patterns, with a love for music and drink. (Feel free to chime in with other qualities you'd like to see...or not want, for that matter.)

Well, after consulting my planar and arcane lore, it is known that the gods, and by extension, their avatars and other deific entities like Dungeon Masters are known for their mastery of polymorphing...

This gives a chance for everyone to be pulled into a scenario together. Although, I am ok with starting gameplay without everyone united. I was thinking that might be kinda cool in PbP.

Would that be your preference, Grimmy? Maybe have us starting out in small groups that find our way together through story and circumstance?

I'm good either way. Or even if we all start out individually and end up at some locale together.

Just looking forward to this, in any event. :D

@Saendithas: Just a fleeting thought - a wayward practitioner of Chronurgy magicks would be quite the asset for those of a criminal bent... Appreciate more stalwart adherents would likely look on such rogues as "bad for your collective rep/dishonouring the Academy" and would likely be (at worst) hunted down or excommunicated/expelled (at best).

Perhaps Bez worked with such an individual on a heist and as such you potentially have contact/crossover of mutual acquaintances/enemies/whatnot?

Just spitballing ideas - even if those links/commonalities are just conversation pieces rather than pivotal NPCs, but gives Grimmy more to work with :)

Really digging that idea. * grin *

I'd rule no by my reading. The next attack is the next attack.

Ok cool.

@Saendithas, do you want to have any NPCs from our background that we both know?

Shared NPC:
Since it's such a quirky field...which is making me lean towards it, howsabout we both know the Chonurgy Wizard named Hadzranl, who's a Gnome going blind in one eye. For his personality as a mentor, I was thinking him being quiet, but quirky himself, sort of like Robin Williams in Dead Poet's Society. HOWEVER, I'm open to discussion on it. :D

Grimmy wrote:

@Saendithas I don't care which school, your choice. I didn't even know what chronurgy was. Huh.

Neither did I, to be honest! lol

Hey Bez and Vex

What level do you see the sorcerous adopted mother being?

Melira and Saendithas, do you think you would have any rivals or mentors at the university?

Magical Academia fun:
Saendithas is still debating (I am, that is) which Tradition he will follow, narrowing the fields down to Chronurgy and Evocation, schools which are quite different in pretty much every way, and so as I've been working on his backstory, I was thinking of working in mentors from each field of study with whom he might be ingratiating himself. I'd welcome npcs either as mentors or maybe better, students competing for spots in their tutelage. Being less than charismatic and social, I'm sure Saen would be a quick target for bullying.

In any event, howsabout a Chonurgy Wizard named Hadzranl, a Gnome going blind in one eye, and a Tiefling Evoker named Rhendlynnth, a half-elf who's even side is Drow? Does that work?

Grimmy, would you have a preference for which tradition he eventually chooses? I'n leaning towards Chronurgy, but the sculpt spell ability of Evocation is really hard to pass on.

* chuckles * Now THIS feels like table-topping.

As for me, sticking to the Wizardly Elven ways...though I suppose I could go the Bladesinging path when he reaches 2nd level...

Hmmm. Perhaps the firbolg and my wizard could have bonded (at the academy or some sort of festival at the church grounds) over some sort of scholarly discussion?

Oh, I didn't mean he needs to protect her. It's more of a "Hey, that's my friend!" kinda thing. ...I think it likely that he wouldn't have a lot of friends to start with...

Grimmy, I'm not sure how important to the game it will be, but from the history you shared (since that's one of Saendithas' skills), how long ago was the Imperatrixx Trystecce defeated?

Well, I don't want to push you into the haughty elf spellcaster thing too much, but I'm glad you liked the idea. I'm not dyslexic myself, but I like the idea of someone who's very learned, knowledgeable, and eloquent not actually being able to read very well. It also explains why she would turn away from being a fully professional scholar. I also had some conception of her as being anti-establishment. Anyway, the basics of the condition, in case you don't know, are that it interferes with the ability to connect symbols (letters) with sounds.

How pleasant do you think your character would be to interact with?

I also hadn't picked a gender for my character yet, but I'm kindof getting behind the idea of her being a woman.

You didn't push me on the personality, no worries. He didn't HAVE a personality, and you just triggered it with your idea.

Likewise, I wasn't trying to push you towards a female character if that's not what you intended. Not sure how/why I came to that conclusion. Obviously play what you like...it's YOUR character.

As far as how pleasant he'll be...he's going to be reasonably polite in public at the very least...just arrogant and impatient. While quite smart, he'll think he's smarter than he is. One of the things I want to play up will be his grudging/growing respect and feeling of protectiveness for your character, since you're obviously overcoming a disability, and have come to him for help.

Edit: For further clarification, Saendithas might at times be a pain in the ass, but the player won't. It'll only be for fun, and intended to make for cool interactions. Feel free to take him down a notch or two if he gets uppity. ;)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So. A Wizard has a name. And a D&D Beyond character sheet.

* grin *
