Could be interesting.

Would there be intention to continue on beyond the funnel with any (if any) survivors?

If the answer to this is yes, then I would likely be interested.

Well, I cannot make any promises, as the PbP medium is… Special. But yes, the idea would be to have some continuity, if people are invested in it.

And I already knew that one, but thank you for the link Talomyr - there are a lot of great DCC resources there.

Seems I have found the right group!

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at running a level 0 funnel DCC game for some time now, and was wondering if people around the boards are familiar with the system, and if there would be any interest in it?

Hi DM-Salsa, I guess it was not mentioned in your list, but since you asked for feedback I am dropping also some ideas/suggestions. Of course these are mainly the things I am looking for personally, but like you said 'Sometimes things just spark and ideas combine and flow'.

I have played lots of Pathfinder 1e, but now am looking for 'simpler' games, so anything along the lines of Old School Essentials or BECMI, Basic Fantasy RPG, OSRIC, Labyrinth Lord, Dungeon Crawl Classics, or AD&D2e would be a perfect match for me.

I have heard great things about SWADE, but never really got to know it - what kind of system is it? More/Less complex than PF1? Just different?

I know they may be a bit out of left field, but these are my two cents.

With some delay, but I managed:

Thorgar Broodrock, Dwarf Cleric

STR 13 (+1)
DEX 9
CON 12+1 (+1)
INT 7
WIS 15 (+1)
CHA 5-1 (-1)

Cleric HP: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
AC: 7 (6 with Shield)
Combat: Can use any armor + club, mace, sling, staff, warhammer.
THAC0: 19
Saving Throws: D11 W12 P14 B16 S15 (+1 to Magic Saves from Wisdom)
Spells: None
Turning Undead (2d6)

Starting Money: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1) = 5x10 = 50gold pieces

Leather Armor 20gp
Shield 10gp
Warhammer 5gp
Sling 2gp
Sling Stones
Backpack 5gp
Rations (7 days) 5gp
Waterskin 1gp
Rope 1gp

Total spent 49gp

Think that is all? Really unlucky with the gold roll.

I will have my character finished tomorrow.

From what I have seen, the game seems to have stopped?

If there is no dwarven pantheon per se, then I think a Norse God would be pretty cool.

I am not the luckiest roller in the world - I think I will go with:

Thorgar Broodrock, Dwarf Cleric

STR 13
DEX 9
CON 12+1
INT 7
WIS 15
CHA 5-1

Is there any specific information regarding deities for the Dolmenwood area?

Ok, it is time I create an alias.
What is the name of Lord Herrod Firedrop's daughter? And did Terion have some sort of rapport with her?

Ok then, so WIS is main stat.

STR 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3) = 12
INT 3d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1) = 5
WIS 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 2) = 9
DEX 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4) = 13
CON 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6) = 15
CHA 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2) = 7

'The Cormyrean Five'

Sounds good!

Sounds good. I will get to work on the character.

I like the idea of my grandfather having been a former naval captain, given holdings in Marsember for services rendered, like you suggested. Lets go with that!

Posh's primary role in life is "meatshield!"

Maybe you can teach Terion one thing or three about using a shield.

I like the noble idea, perhaps a more 'on the fringes' kind of noble house - like the Starks or the Locksley. Recognized as noble and with valor by a few, but considered 'stuck up' or arrogant by others, because they refuse to adhere to a foppish lifestyle.

I can imagine wishing to travel to gain a measure of respect from his parents and older brothers. And I can imagine them also agreeing with that decision and encouraging him to find his worth.

He could perhaps have traveled to meet his own 'Monsieur de Tréville', looking for guidance and mentorship - and the first advice was that he should learn to fend for himself. And he has been doing so since, regularly visiting his mentor for reports on his learnings. He applauded his intentions when Terion decided to join a chartered group of adventurers, advising him that allies are more important than gold or the edge of a blade.

Does it work?

yes and I have to attach myself to someone that can get in the way of danger because I'm waaaay too important to get hurt this early. I tend to perform for the locals as a way to get enough money to say at an inn or get food when I don't use my spell to protect against hunger/thirst. But alas, any funds I make from being a traveling entertainer are the precise amount of funds required by the inn keeper or tavern wench. :)

Terien is not a meat shield, but he should be able to handle himself in a scuffle. I think traveling with Vorzu might appeal to his swashbuckling inclination. So that could be an idea?

It seems the group is shaping up.

Hi, I would like to join if possible. Have been wanting to try OSR for some time now, so this looks like a good opportunity.

Are you using race as class? I am thinking I would either play a Dwarf, or a cleric (or eventually a Dwarf Cleric if you are using that optional rule). Would that be a good fit?

Good, that way we can get the ball rolling from the get go.

I don't think I have Demihuman Deities...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think I can start with something like this:

Rapier fitted with basked hilt x2 (34 gp)
Footman's Mace (8 gp)
Dagger x2 (4 gp)
Main Gauche x2 (6 gp)
Short Bow (30 gp)
30 Sheaf arrows (1.5 gp)
Leather Armor (5 gp)
Soft boots (1 gp)
Backpack (2 gp)
Winter blanket (0.5 gp)
2 weeks of dry rations (20 gp)

Total spent = 112 gp

(Still need to buy torches/lantern and so forth)

Continuing to use Posh as my template, I think I am mostly done. Just need equipment.

5d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 3, 4) = 15x10gp

I did. I have Int 17 and thus 6 bonus languages. Used three (actually only two, because we all know Common, right? Which means I should know another language - any that makes sense thematically?) in languages, and three in NWP.

DM Barbarian Taco wrote:

Honestly forgot that was a rule in that book. It is perfectly allowed, though to specialize you'll have to pick an individual weapon

the Spell casting won't matter as you can only cast 1 spell on your turn, So Ambidexterity is more for dual welding weapons than other styles of coordination.

Solid! That helps a lot in making a decision.

DM Barbarian Taco wrote:
As for an extra weapon that is ranged, Short bow or SLing. Both are great for dungeons.

I am a simple guy, so I guess a short bow will do. I can always throw daggers also, right?

Posh Stemtimple wrote:
You can't be specialized in a weapon if he is anything but a single class Warrior type I believe.

But I am a single class Warrior, aren't I?

---

That being said, I may go with:

Weapon Proficiencies (4+2 Bonus from Swashbuckler):
Blades (broad group) (3)
Short Bow (1)
Two Weapon Style (1)
Rapier Specialization) (1)

Non Weapon Proficiencies (3+3 from Int)
Ambidexterity (1)
Etiquette (B)
Tumbling (B)
Blind-Fighting (2)
Riding (Land-based) (1)
Reading/Writing (2)

Languages (3): Common, Elvish, Thorass

Looks ok?

---

I think I would want to play him daring and dashing, but also with some sort of grim undertone. Not sure what yet - maybe he takes his dueling too serious, even if he pretends he does not. Or maybe he has lost someone close to him. Still mulling on details.

I think I have nailed down my Weapon Proficiencies:

Weapon Proficiency (4+2 Bonus from Swashbuckler):
Fencing Blades (tight group) (2)
Ambidexterity (1) - should this be a non-weapon?
Single Weapon Style (2) = -2AC

I have one (or 2) weapon proficiency left. I would like to take a ranged option, and was thinking about a Longbow. Is that a good option? At 75gp it feels really expensive.

Two-Weapon fighting is better than ambidexterity

Also you have to take individual weapons so it would Be Raipers,stilettos,Main-Gauche, Sabers. Cutlasses

No players option stuff except spells and Wizard SPecialists

So it would be the Swashbuckler in the Complete Fighters handbook

I have a couple of questions:

- Is Ambidexterity a weapon or non-weapon proficiency? (the idea of fighting with two weapons is pretty cool, but since the plan is to become a mage in the future, I was thinking having one free hand would be more useful, for casting spells and such. If that is not the case, I may go 2 weapons. Seems quite swashbuckle-y).
- So from the Complete Fighter's, I can use the new weapons, fighting styles, kits, but not the weapon groups. Is that it?
- By no Player Options stuff, do you mean the books like 'Player's Options: Combat and Tactics' and such (which I don't think I am using), or do you mean some of the rules from the Complete Fighter's?

I think I have nailed down my Weapon Proficiencies:

Weapon Proficiency (4+2 Bonus from Swashbuckler):
Fencing Blades (tight group) (2)
Ambidexterity (1) - should this be a non-weapon?
Single Weapon Style (2) = -2AC

I have one (or 2) weapon proficiency left. I would like to take a ranged option, and was thinking about a Longbow. Is that a good option? At 75gp it feels really expensive.

DM Barbarian Taco wrote:

Id says non-weapon proficiencies.

You will with downtime have the ability to train in weapons and non-weapon proficiencies.

Ok. Sounds good.

Hey, thanks a lot for allowing me to join! Looking forward to playing.

I am working on finishing my character.

DM Barbarian Taco wrote:
Its a Hackmaster rule

Ok, got it. Heard a lot of good things about crunchy Hackmaster, but never tried it myself.

So if I shamelessly copy from Posh's Character Sheet, my character would start taking shape.

Name: Terien Greymantle
Race: Human
Class: Fighter (Swashbuckler) 1
AC: Not yet determined
THAC0: 20
HP: 10
XP: 0, +10%

STR: 16/32 +0/+1, WA: 70 lb, Press: 195 lb, Open Doors 9, BB/LG: 10%
DEX: 15/67 Reaction: +0, Missile: +0, AC: -1
CON: 12/55 HP: +0 SS: 80%, Res: 85%, Poison: +0
INT: 17/83 Languages: 6
WIS: 08/18
CHA: 09/41 Henchmen: 4
COM: 11/86

Attacks: 1/1

DM Barbarian Taco, are you allowing bonus Language slots to be used as Weapon or Non-Weapon Proficiencies? (think there was an optional rule recommended in the Complete Fighter's for that?)

Then I roll percentiles, yes?

STR: 1d100 ⇒ 32
DEX: 1d100 ⇒ 67
CON: 1d100 ⇒ 55
INT: 1d100 ⇒ 83
WIS: 1d100 ⇒ 18
CHA: 1d100 ⇒ 41
Comliness: 1d100 ⇒ 86

How exactly do these work? I don't remember it from AD&D2e.

Thx Posh!

DM Barbarian Taco, the Swashbuckler (from Complete Fighter's Handbook) should be ok, right?

I think I might go...

STR 16
DEX 15
CON 12
INT 17
WIS 08
CHA 09
Comliness 11

Ok, now I am a bit confused :)
I was planning on playing a dual-class fighter/mage (necessarily human, right?), but I get the impression you thought I meant multiclass Fighter/Mage (which is also great to be honest).

About the rolls - are we supposed to do them ourselves, or will you? If we do the rolling:

4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 4) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 6) = 19
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 5) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 1) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 2) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 6) = 19
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 3) = 14

Im shooting for long term. I like your idea for a Purple Dragon, but it would have to be a Half-Elf at least to be a Fighter/Mage, Unless you seek to Dual CLass.

Thank you for the replies. Yep like I said, I was considering it. As the DM, do you think it is a bad idea?

Hello everyone, I have been playing RPGs for many years, but only now decided to create an account here on Paizo and perhaps give PbP a real try. I have been looking more and more into opportunities to play Old School Games, and 2e just fits the bill for me.

But as a complete newcomer to this recruitment process, I have some doubts regarding the steps - hope it is ok to throw some questions around? I guess I will just ask them one at a time - the first one would be what are we expected to put forward as an 'application'?

I haven't played AD&D2e in a VERY long time, so is a character outline enough? Like 'I will play a ex-army human warrior with a nasty disposition and a two handed sword. He has been down on his luck since leaving the footman service under the Purple Knights, so he now works as a mercenary'? Or should we make sure to have a character fully built?

Hope these questions are not too dumb!

I still have a last one - in terms of scope (game length, and speed of leveling, etc), do dual classes make any sense in a PbP game? I have always dreamed about playing a dual classed Fighter/Mage, and since we are taking a trip down memory lane, that would be something I would definitely like to try. But I am not sure how long do PbP games actually run, and whether such investment would make sense?
