As the others entered, Renlo sighed and followed, hand still near the hilt of his sword. He was glad to see he wasn't the only one nervous about it as he joined Elek and Korin. "I don't like this. We should leave, and soon, I think."
Renlo eyed the house with trepdiation, gripping the hilt of his longsword. He glanced at Tenora Sedai, still out here, and waited to see if they would enter the house.
"Agreed, Korin. There must be someone we can dispatch as a messenger to report these events. Tenora, have you ever heard of a weapon vanishing upon its wielder's death?"
Outside: Renlo took a couple of involuntary steps backwards as Jair suddenly began contorting and apparently emptying himself of all of his blood. Shock and horror were plain on his face, as even in Trolloc camps he'd never witnessed anything like that. "Peace! What horror has befallen this town? I agree, Marik - we must leave as soon as we can, before we catch whatever this is."
Outside: Ouside, Renlo sets to work saving the boy's life, first stitching up the wound, then bandaging it with the strips of blanket. "That should help keep him from dying. He should still be under the supervision of a healer for a few days, though, once they aren't busy." Standing, he wipes his hands with one of the remaining blanket strips, then turns and looks Jair directly in the eyes. "Listen well, boy. You may imagine yourself a warrior, but you're not - not even close. A true warrior only uses his weapon when he must, and never for a petty feud over a woman. Do you have any living family?"
Outside: "Marik, speculate on the law later. Could you knock on the door and get the needle, thread, and bandages now, please, so I can try to save this boy's life?"
Outside: Renlo snorts. "Marik, knock on the door and ask the women for needle and thread, as well as bandages, if they have any, or rags we can cut up if they don't. I've dressed battle wounds before."
Renlo releases the man, allowing him to be led inside. Outside: Turning, he walks towards Mikel and kneels down to examine the wound.
The post Rizz said that in is actually further up the page. He said you get an extra 3 weaves per channeler level.
With Elek, Marik, and Cor'ellis's wolf working to separate the two boys, Renlo said, "Tenora, you must move quickly. Something is wrong with this man!" Renlo moves to help Dawn and Anna restrain the man before he hurts himself further.
Renlo fixes the man with a stern gaze as he rants at them - right up until he names the Dark One. "You fool! You name the Dark One this close to the Blight! Still your tongue, lest someone cut it out!"
Reunited with the group, Renlo's hand grabs the hilt of his sword as the...bundle of rags or what have you bounces off Elek. Seeing that the bundle of rags and red hair was a person named Norran, he released his hand, but left it hover nearby. The lurker in the shadows could be dangerous after all.
Bidding Mistress Serane farewell, Renlo said, ”The rest of our supplies are at the Bulwark. The others will meet us there.”
Trading Post: Renlo looks skeptical about the news that at least 65 years have passed since the last Trolloc raid - usually he'd seen small bands twice or even three times a year, and Thorn was further north than his home. The past couple of years had been abnormally quiet, but not before then. Of course, if something involving the One Power were protecting the town, that could have an effect. It was rumored there were places even Trollocs wouldn't enter without being driven to it by the Halfmen.
Trading Post: Renlo looks to Cor'ellis, waiting for her response. He didn't know anything about trade, after all.
Trading Post: Renlo nodded to the man and replied, "Peace favor your sword." Being called Lady Cor'ellis's companion hardly bothered him. He knew what he looked like - a caravan guard, perhaps. He had come along purely to ensure the Lady's safety - in this town of dreams come real, it was best she did not wander by herself. Once within Mistress Serane's office/sleeping tent, Renlo said, "Thank you for the hospitality, Mistress Serane. Peace favor you. I am Renlo Tacksa." He then took up a position behind the chair.
Trading Post: Renlo observes the trading post, and will approach with Cor'ellis.
Renlo says to Cor’ellis, ”Lets’s go to the trading post and see if your supplies are ready.”
Renlo spoke up, "Let's hope your supplies are ready, Lady Cor'ellis. I would greatly prefer we did not have to remain here longer than necessary."
With the door closed, Renlo says, "We need to leave here. Immediately. It appears that those in this town have been plagued by dreams over the past few weeks. Dreams of their spouses engaging in extramarital affairs, or themselves engaging in extramarital affairs. The innkeeper told me that he'd been having dreams of his wife with other men, including Bataar, and his wife has had the same dreams as other men. The violence we saw today is a part of it. The innkeeper was reminded of the same jealousy he felt towards a man who he fought with over a woman when he was younger, and the man Marik and I found the innkeeper's wife involved with said that he'd heard of two women who had competed for the same man fighting with each other. It would not surprise me to learn a similar motive for the fights we witnessed and attempted to break up outside. My worry is that if we spend even one night here, we will be plagued by the same dreams. We should leave at once, which means we need to make a decision about Bataar. Bring him with us, or leave him here."
Renlo looks over at the bar and, seeing Bataar still with the innkeeper, quitely says, "Yes, but I don't want to say it in front of the innkeeper, and as Marik and Tenora are the leaders of the expedition, I thought I would speak to them first. If you think we can leave Bataar and the innkeeper alone, you should come along."
Kitchen:
Renlo nodded, unsurprised. "Thank you for your time. Soldan, I suggest you leave the inn as circumspectly as possible. Karen, I believe you and your husband will need to speak about this. Peace favor you both." Leaving the kitchen, Renlo nods to the innkeeper, then walks over to where Tenora and Marik are standing. "Marik, Tenora Sedai, we should speak in private."
Kitchen: Looking at Marik as the Tar Valoner turned to leave, he quietly whispered, "There is more here than simple indiscretion." Looking at Soldan, he said, "When they were teenagers, did Suze and Emgil compete for Kado's affection?"
Kitchen: Two more who fought over a woman. Renlo nods as he listens to Soldan explain things more. "And have either of you had dreams involving anyone else? Either of a similar nature to the ones of each other or of fighting with someone else over another person?"
Kitchen: There it is, Renlo thought. Aloud, he asked, "I take it you've had...encounters...in dreams before you began physically meeting. Could you tell me how long the dreams have been going on? Have you had similar dreams involving anyone else?"
Renlo leads the Bulwark keeper out, then goes behind the bar and gets the homebrew from behind the brandy and a cup. He pours a drink, puts it in front of the man, then waves over Elek. "Keep him here, and keep his cup full. The poor man needs it. I'll explain in a bit." With that, Renlo returns to the kitchen to find out if his wife's indiscretion was a similar byproduct as the violence that seemed to plague others in this town. Kitchen: Upon returning, he looks at the two and says, "Have you two been in this...affair...long?"
GM: Renlo stops and stares. He is simply too stunned at what he sees happening to even think for a moment. Seriously!? Did Bataar actually seduce the man's wife? Has she been unfaithful to him at night, sneaking out to have an affair? And who is this? I do not want to spend a night in this town. Clearing his throat, he says, "Peace, good sir. Peace, lady. Would you both wait where you are? Harlon, perhaps you should wait in the common room?" He places a hand on Harlon's shoulder, both to restrain and reassure the man.
GM: "Thank you, goodman. I appreciate and thank you for this. Where may I find your wife?"
GM: So, these dreams prey on raw emotions - lust and violence, for the most part. What could be the cause? Hesitating, Renlo asks his next question. "May I ask your wife about her dreams, if both you and she permit me to do so?"
GM: Dreams of Bataar with his wife. His wife possibly having dreams of being with Bataar. Dreams of him defending his wife from Bataar. I wonder if the others who were fighting had dreams like this. "Did something happen with Sherl, that was similar? Were both you and her husband competitors for her affection?"
GM: Renlo unties the innkeeper, then says, "You've had a rather rough go of it, it appears. Why don't you fix your clothes, then I'll help you back to your kitchen so you can sit down and have a drink of water." Once the innkeeper fixes his pants, Renlo helps him up and walks towards the kitchen with him, asking as he did so, "We found several people outside just started fighting for no apparent reason. You wouldn't happen to have an idea of what that's about?"
I kind of think Tenora plans to ask you about the dreams you had in Illian.
Renlo walked away from the man - he had nothing more to say - and went back into the private dining room where they'd left the innkeeper.
The fighting ended, Renlo looked at the woman somewhat uncomfortably before saying, "We should head back into the Bulwark and release the innkeeper. If everyone has stopped fighting, we should be okay."
Actually, I just was shaken and tried to grapple her. Rolled poorly, though.
Quick FYI, no save for Demoralize Demoralize: You can use this skill to cause an opponent to become shaken for a number of rounds. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target’s Hit Dice + the target’s Wisdom modifier. If you are successful, the target is shaken for 1 round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC. You can only threaten an opponent in this way if they are within 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you. Using demoralize on the same creature only extends the duration; it does not create a stronger fear condition.
Renlo is surprised by the woman's ferocity. What madness has overtaken her? Marik clearly panics, and even Renlo has to admit he's a bit hesitant, but he says, "I am terribly sorry about this, but you are clearly a danger to both yourself and others."
He attempts to grab her, but the weird, crab-like stance she's in makes it difficult, to say the least.
Renlo steps in front of her. "Peace, lady! The man is unconscious. Leave him be. Are you not making a scene this way?"
Renlo takes a more direct route than the other two, walking over and trying to forcibly separate the man and the woman.
Renlo stares at Cor'ellis nonplussed as she heads out into the melee. "I said nothing about comforting children, merely that it is unsafe for a Lady who cannot channel to venture out into such a fight..." He follows the Kandori out into the corridor, ready to fight as needed.
As Cor'ellis pushes past him to go out into the melee, Renlo says, "Peace, Lady Cor'ellis! If we must go out there to try and find children, then you should remain here. You are no Aes Sedai. We will find children and bring them back."
Renlo shuts the door, then turns to the others. "It looks like everyone is fighting everyone else in a free for all. We may be safest if we remain barricaded in this room and leave things be until it ends." |
