So this one just does not do it for me.

Reason number one is Matt Damon just hasnt had any interest for me in a while. He was great in Martian but even though I love the first 3 Bourn movies I did not see the last one. Chalk it up to I see his return to the role as a "hey someone other than me can do a good movie in this world so I better return" attitude. This may not be the case but it feels like it to me.

Reason the second is it it feels like a Chinese reach for the American market and even though it looks kind of cool it misses the mark.

Lastly The story looks weak from the previews.

So in the end I may wait for Netflix or something I still havent seen his last Bourn movie.

All opinions, you dont have to agree with them but its how I feel as an avid movie consumer. I go to movies very often and this is one I will skip.

I have only dabbled in 5th ED so I cant truly compare the two but what I dabbled with was enough to convince me not to go further. Why you may ask, well its simple and complicated at the same time. In its base form I do not want to invest time and money learning another new game and system.
The more complex version... After having invested not only time but alot of money over the years I have decided to stay with one system for as long as it is supported and then as long as I can find people to play with. I have edition burn out. I started playing in the 80s and I remember 2nd edition and it was not a big deal, basically a revised edition with corrections and additions. 3.0 changed the rules in a very revolutionary way. At first I resisted 3.0 but later embraced it. While on my tour of duty in Iraq 3.5 hit the shelves. Not a huge deal as this was very similar to the 2nd ed update in my mind but it began to look as if it is a grab for money. Then the (can I erase it from my memory) mistake of 4.0. I did not invest at all. Pathfinder came out but I had sticker shock in the beginning so I did not jump on at first. So what makes Pathfinder better? In the end its just an opinion kind of like asking what color is better, it does not matter its what you like as an individual and what feeds the imagination and most of all, whats fun to play. So I have already invested in Pathfinder several hundred dollars and continue to invest. Even though my FLGS just closed. Amazon is my new store I guess.

In the end the superior system is the system I have already placed as the structure of my gaming. While I may pick up a few base books here of there just to dabble in something else from time to time I will stick with Pathfinder for at least the next decade or as long as it is supported.

Are you interested in a PbP, Raven Moon?

Is it the suspension of disbelief you're missing? Or is it just the predictability of party/combat dynamics? I'm not totally sure which bit of the "magic" it is that's lacking for you . . . .

Whats missing is hard to explain. Its is part disbelief, part predictability and part something ethereal I guess. For example a few of the movies I have seen lately just did not feel as fantastic as they would have been to me a few years ago. Assassins Creed is one. It was ok but nothing special. On the opposite end of the scale Stranger Things was a very good show and gave me the spark of magic I have been looking for. Much of it though I think may just be that I have not been able to find a new group that I fit well with and I am afraid it may be my age that is part of the problem. I am closer to the age of the parents than the gamers and in some cases Im older than the parents. So here I am in a conundrum, I can almost feel the magic of the fantastic, science fiction or action adventure vanishing, evaporating, bleeding out.

I do have compounding circumstances involved as well. Like concentration on reading or attention span or even short term memory issues. So in short I need to find a good game that is vivid and allows me to get creative and grow a character as well.

If you have a game store near you, check their message board. Get the information for the ones that seem promising. Talk to the GM and ask to observe a session or two. If the game looks like it might suit you, ask to sit in, if there's room and everyone approves. This is the method I used to get back into gaming after a ten-year-long "dry spell" that followed my brother's suicide in '97. Hope this advice helps.

Been there done that bought the T-shirt and gave it away. I am from the old days where we did not have internet to connect us with gaming so yah I have done that. Thank you for the gesture though.

I have a question but let me set it up first.

I am a middle age male who started gaming way back in the early 80s. It has been a few years since I have been able to game at the table. For the first time in my life I feel the "magic" of it all is quickly disappearing. I want to get that "magic" back but there is such an age difference any more its difficult to find a new group. So..

How do I get the "Magic" back?

This subject (any politics) is such an individual perspective point of view its difficult to police the thread. To put it in a much more simple analogy it would be akin to asking what is your favorite color. In the end it all comes down to opinion. Opinions are not fact but are often based on feeling as much as fact. So many opinions can be backed up by fact, figures and even a crowd can leave the single voice (minority) who has a differing opinion to feel left out, berated or even bullied in many differing forms.
In my humble OPINION real world politics should be left out of the public arena of a game. The GAME is our common thread in all of this even if it is an off topic thread. In today's day and age politics reaches young and younger folks and it strongly divides people. This is a place I used to like to come to get AWAY from the politics. When I come in here I dont care what your politics are or any other hot button issue, im not here for your opinions on the real world, im here for discussions on the game or even distantly related subjects that have nothing to do with the real world. Because of the kind of person I am I think folks should not be censored but on the other hand common courtesy, general politeness and decency should guide us through. BUt again this can vary widely as each and every one of us has differing points of view on each of those things. Personally I cant stand the "PC" thing, I personally hate hyphenating anything American (you either are American or you are not). But this is often an community that reaches other countries. As far as I am concerned the only real world politics that should be discussed are the ancient forms we use in our story telling. The ancient Roman senate, 15th century Hungarian Courtesans and court, 11th century European feudal system only to name a few.
In conclusion I say keep real world politics out of gaming all together and it should be voluntary to do so not mandatory. So if you open a proverbial can of worms dont cry when you get blasted, offended or dont like the opinion of others. The real world and this digital arena only have a small connection but it can hurt just as bad. If you know you are about to open a subject that could divide folks diametrically and with out thinking about the consequences of your actions you may want to learn some manners in real life. Its an old cliche but "Dont talk about Politics, Religion or money" is a real thing for a reason, it starts fights and ends friendships or even results in physical confrontation. The smallest spark not matter how good intentioned can result in a forest fire.

This has been on my mind lately, perhaps its due to my age and some sort of a mild midlife crisis or something. As an early GenXer born in 71 I am in my mid 40s. In the last year or so I have changed and it seems to be an involuntary change. I feel like I have lost the "magic" of imagination and wonder. Perhaps its political burnout after the election year, It may be the lack of a regular social game (Havent played Pathfinder in a few years), it could be all my friends are younger than me and have all had children and I havent seen them in a while. No matter the reason(s) its happening and I am sad for it.
I look for that magic and wonder in things that still interest me but something is missing something is off. I want the magic back. Compounding this may be my personality type. According to the Myers-Briggs table I am a true introvert. I enjoy my personal time and being alone but the last few years it has taken a toll I guess. I have a few sanctuaries left for day dreaming or visiting the fantasy realm. I have a home brew world I have been working on for several years. Building, refining, adding to and growing. I return to it from time to time when I need an escape the most but I want to share it with a social group. I want to see others help it grow and enjoy it the same way I do. In the end I find it difficult because of age groups. I am so far removed from the younger generation I just dont connect for what ever reason. No matter the reasons my age group has been on my mind lately.

At this point I am just crossing my fingers for a solid story, quality acting (with or without A listers), believable FX be it digital or practical and better than TV quality camera work.

I had high hopes for the first one as I am a fan of Jeremy Irons since I saw him in Dead Ringers. To me it looked like he was trying to act badly in Dungeons & Dragons (2000) on purpose.
As for a wishlist of actors im not going to cross my fingers and wont be upset if they dont show up in it but I would like to see Jake Gyllenhaal (ranger type), Mark Dacascos (my first pick to play Drizzt if the character is used), I almost insist Morgan Freeman narrate it if it has a narrator, Alexander Skarsgard play a fighter type, Billy Connolly for a wizard type or even Martin Clunes (Doc Martin), Ian McShane to play some sort of evil antagonist. With makeup just about anyone could play a dwarf, elf, halfling or even gnome but I would like to see Julia Stiles play a gnome for some reason, Chloë Grace Moretz play an elf or halfling, Chris Pratt as a dwarf and I would have to have Clancy Brown do the voice of a beholder or the like. I guess I could go on and on but its counter productive really. Ill just take the first things I listed for this movie.

So new question on this subject

If you were to build an archtype for the Magus to accomplish two bladed sword combat what would do? Give me an example or two.

ngc7293 wrote:
I know this isn't a magus idea, but if you REALLY want that Darth Maul Shtick, play a Ranger. There are the free feats and you get Lead Blades.

Actually this is a magus idea. I keep getting the visual of Darth Maul in my mind but thats not really what I want to build. I want to try to build a magus with a two bladed sword.

Thanks everyone for the input, keep it coming. I may even have to build a special archtype just for it. Ill look into this as well.

So new question on this subject

I dont have the book the mindblade is in so that could also be a reason I mussed it.

Point taken, I had forgotten about that in trying to create this build. I will have to look further into the mindblade.

OK here is what I have basically to make it work. Let me know if I am wrong on this and not just in opinion but by the rules.

level 1 and 2 will not get me to where I want to be. But at level 3 I have a high enough BAB to get exotic weapon prof for two bladed sword. I also pick up the still spell feat and the magus ability still spell. Now this only gives a pair of spells that can be used while wielding the two bladed sword but it is the earliest I have found it can be done.
so at 3rd level I have this. Its not an efficient cast and attack but its the first pairing I have found.

* exotic weapon prof - 2 bladed sword
* feat - still spell
* magus arcana - still magic (1/day)

Thus far I havent been able to accomplish the two bladed sword until 3rd level so IM looking for other builds that get creative with this.

Unfortunately, these divisons are not false. They are very real, because they cut to the very core of who we are and what we are willing to support. On some level, I hope they never heal, because if they do it shows we are as a whole able to compromise our deepest ethical beliefs in the hopes of stability, and I just don't know if I like that.

Plus, yeah, the actual consequences of unifying around Trump.

Is that why so many have said they will leave the country? I really think thats a stupid thing to say. Its like a child storming off when they dont get what they want.

Yes the divisions are false, its perpetuated and repeated so much that people think its the be all end all of lines in the sand. I spent the last 8 years compromising on issues that go to my core and I had to learn to live with it. The world is not going to end, I survived obama thus far. SO as long as he does not start a world war in the next 70 or so days I should be ok.

Think about it

I voted, its over and now its time to get over all the false divisions and get some things done. We can agree to disagree on issues, likes and dislikes. We can even agree to disagree on personal issues. Its time though to once again band together as Americans one and all and become a united country.

I would love to see something done in Forgotten Realms be it in Waterdeep or even Cormyr. While I wouldnt mind an original story but I would like to have a quick trip into The Haunted Halls of Eveningstar. That was a classic low level dungeon.
