The good news is that Hillary probably won't try to run again.

Somehow, I doubt that. I don't think she's done with politics. One can hope, though.

Next time, maybe the Dems will wise up and run someone who could have won walking away, like Bernie would have.

I'm hoping for Elizabeth Warren.

Frankly, I think she could have won in a blowout this year if she had been willing to 'disrespect' Hillary like that.

On the other hand... if the Dems decide Trump had the right idea and nominate Kanye West then I'm done. I'm giving up on the human race and moving to the wilderness.

Honestly, I'm suspicious at this point of any of the "well X would have won in a blowout" claims.

Not when it's still not clear why the polling was so far off. Clinton had negatives, but she had positives too and we have no idea how events would have played out with any other candidates. Up and down, but she led in the polling the entire way.

Damned if I know how Sanders would have done, when he basically never faced serious attacks. Or Warren, who's even less tried as a candidate.

Would blacks and Latinos turned out for them in greater numbers than for Clinton? Would they have won over the white votes attracted to Trump's scapegoating?

What about John Oliver?

Ineligible. Not a natural born US citizen.

Stephen Colbert or John Stewart... I wouldn't be happy that the presidency would then basically be a popularity contest on BOTH sides, but at least they've shown an interest and understanding of important policy issues.

Well... things are still on track to let Kim Kardashian become the first female president of the United states.

Anyone who is patting themselves on the backs because Hillary didn't get in the white house is being rather short sighted right now. No, she wasn't the candidate I would have picked. No, I wasn't happy over the emails or the DNC scandal, to put it nicely. I'm genuinely pissed off that the Democrats didn't even try to test the waters with other candidates. But the alternative to Hillary was always far, far worse.

With Hillary, we would have gotten another career politician, and 4 more years of Obama. I liked Obama, and the past 8 years have actually been pretty good over all, compared to the 8 years before it. But now we are in unknown territory, and I'm genuinely terrified about the possibilities.

First she broke the internet, now she can do the same to America!

I voted, its over and now its time to get over all the false divisions and get some things done. We can agree to disagree on issues, likes and dislikes. We can even agree to disagree on personal issues. Its time though to once again band together as Americans one and all and become a united country.

Maybe. If Trump starts sending people of various ethicities to camps and ghettoes, and signs some very bad treaties with Putin, and replaces the forces of law and order in the US with his people, etc etc etc, maybe going for unity is the worst idea ever?

Please tell me you don't believe that, Godwin aside.

Unfortunately, these divisons are not false. They are very real, because they cut to the very core of who we are and what we are willing to support. On some level, I hope they never heal, because if they do it shows we are as a whole able to compromise our deepest ethical beliefs in the hopes of stability, and I just don't know if I like that.

Plus, yeah, the actual consequences of unifying around Trump.

I did not Godwin anything, Kryzbyn. Those things are what authoritarian regimes across the world have done for ages. And now, you got Trump, who said he would do much of this, elected as POTUS. Don't count on his sympathy, he doesn't have any to give. Be awake, be wary, see what he does. And if the s$%+ hits the fan, be ready to stand up for who you are.

Is that why so many have said they will leave the country? I really think thats a stupid thing to say. Its like a child storming off when they dont get what they want.

Yes the divisions are false, its perpetuated and repeated so much that people think its the be all end all of lines in the sand. I spent the last 8 years compromising on issues that go to my core and I had to learn to live with it. The world is not going to end, I survived obama thus far. SO as long as he does not start a world war in the next 70 or so days I should be ok.

Slowing down/stopping Muslim immigration and/or building a wall along the southern border isn't even remotely the same as concentration camps, which is what you're talking about.

That feels like a big if.

Deporting people is a difficult process. Turns out other countries typically resist getting them. So what do you do with them while you wait?

it didn't start with concentration camps, if you remember. That was near the end. It started with blaming the undesirables for all the problems the desirables had. Trump has done that with Muslims and Mexicans.

My point is just this: Eyes and ears open. Network. Find information. Learn. Share it. Remember.

Nobody knows how bad it will get. But if it DOES go bad, every single one will be needed.

Obama was a moderate, and had congress working against him. This is a much different situation.

I also might add, leaving the country in disgust is a very understandable reaction right now, too bad it's easier said than done.

Meh. Throughout the 2004 RNC, 1,800 friends and I, were put in filthy chainlink cages topped with coiled razorwire. The police filed false, made-up charges against us, and edited video to back up their lies. They took my stuff, beat up my friends, and harassed us for many years. It took ten years of legal BS to get compensation (settlement with no admission of wrongdoing, blah blah blah.) No one hates the Republicans more then me. With that said, Hillary Clinton was my Senator at the time, and didn't do a damn thing.

Things are going to suck bad now that the Republicans have every branch of the government under their control. However, not much would really be different under the dems. Obama could have actually held people accountable for torture, invasion of Iraq, etc. But he didn't so all that stuff if coming back. When the democrats come back into power, they will exonerate the republicans, and the cycle will start all over again.
