Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

I'm still around as well.

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

Ralleck carefully helps the tiefling move the boy.

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

Ralleck glanced briefly in the direction of the older boy, and then turned his head back down to the wound, and the arrow. Noting the rather odd smell and sudden rotting, he waits till Faith was done with her spell to cast Detect Magic to see if there was anything out of the ordinary going on here in that regards. It was, as far as he was concerned, much nicer to be able to get one's information directly.

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

Ralleck for his part, mostly just observed the events with grim silence. After all, these things happened, and, it seemed that there were more skilled folks than he to deal with the situation. Out of habit, he made note of the faces of those present, trying to recall anything he could about them.

We know of any of the NPCs involved?

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

"Well, this sounds just like old times, eh?" Ralleck said, putting down his drink, as he started swiftly heading towards the scream, "Never a dull moment."

Pietro sighs and tasks another swig. "There's good men left, even if they're few and far between. Look at Smiles. Anyway like I told you, a guard saved my mom when she was pregnant with me. It would break her heart if I quit now. We get a few bad ones. Look at this..."

He pulls out of his bag an envelope with a handfulof handwritten letters, some barely legible. "This one is from a man I stopped being mugged. It was the last of his money and he was on his way to pay rent. This one here is from that kid you and I found in the alley. The blonde one with the dimples. He ended up getting adopted. His foster father is a baker, and he makes amazing scones for me every time I patrol nearby." He laughs just a bit and pats his belly. "I really look forward to every third shift now! And this..."

He pulls one letter out that has seen better days. He hands it to Ralleck. "That's from the two girls. The ones...well...you know. They ask about you. I...would've given it earlier, but I have been busy, and...well it's no excuse." He sighs, and finishes his drink, slamming the container on a nearby table. "They still...you know...I mean it's the only 'work' they know, but at least not for him anymore. I found a cleric who healed their faces up real good. You can hardly see the scars." He gives a small shudder at the painful memory.

"The city is rabid. All we ever managed to do in the Watch was wipe away some of the flecks," Ralleck stated quietly.

He took the letter, and started reading it, "Still, it's good to know that at least some of our efforts did not go to waste," he concluded, though his face hardened a little at the memory, "Glad to hear that they are doing better now. Do give the girls my regards, if you run into them again. I’ve not had much chance to check in on them since my departure from the Watch, unfortunately. Likely for the best, I can’t imagine our old colleagues are likely to be too fond of myself and those I associate with. Same probably goes for yourself, you know, though, I doubt you need me to tell you to watch your back out there.”

Pietro takes Rallek's offered drink and shrugs. "Even I get a vacation once in a while. Captain's orders, actually." He narrows his eyes and takes a rather large swig. "I'm going to catch that corrupt bastard with his hand in the jar one day, I swear it. But for now, I've been rewarded with some extra vacation time. And I'm sure the paperwork for my vacation pay will go missing, like it did with your severance." He spits on the ground in disgust. "Anyway I thought I'd visit my mother at the farm, since the captain made it very clear I wasn't to be in the city during said vacation. She, in turn, gave me the classic 'go to town, meet a pretty girl' mother speech. I'm sure you know the one." As he speaks, Pietro eyes the crowd. It's a watchman's eyes, and curves and smiles aren't what he seeks. It's almost as if the man just doesn't turn off.

"I'm afraid I don't know the one," Ralleck said, sounding slightly amused, "I expect it was always rather clear that I was a lost cause, in that regard." He had never been particularly inclined towards settling down, at least, not anytime soon, and, well, unfortunately his folks were no longer around to press him on such anyways.

"Well, shame that you still bother with the Watch. Seems like a bit of a waste, truth be told," he said with a shrug, doubting that he was going to be changing any minds now, and taking a sip from his drink, "But, to each his own."

He idly mused whether or not the good Captain might not someday find himself without hands to put in jars, sadly moving against such an individual was not likely to be healthy anytime soon, but, who could say what opportunities for accidents might arise someday.

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

"Oh, hello Pietro," Ralleck said pleasantly, though his smile stiffened slightly at the mention of the incident, "Yes, it has been a while, hasn't it? Well, nothing like a homecoming to catch up. One moment..."

He proceeded down to the kegs and grabbed a couple of drinks, before returning and handing one of Pietro.

"So, whatever brings you back out here? Last I heard, you were still slaving away for the Watch."

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

It had been quite a long time since Ralleck had been back to Wicken, and he had to admit that it was nice to spend some time away from the oppressive cityscape of Castorhage. Unpleasant heat aside, the town, and it’s people, seemed to be more or less how he had remembered it. Though there was, perhaps fortunately, not much in the way of worthwhile work for one such as himself here, he expected it would be good to stay awhile. If nothing else, it was nice to get a proper night’s sleep every so often. Still, he could not help but feel a little out of place in his seemingly idyllic hometown, after having been gone in the city for so long.

The shouts from the crowd quickly snap him out of his thoughts, as he’d become rather used to such commotion being an indicator of some new unpleasantness. But, upon seeing the cause, he relaxed again. Figuring that he may as well get a drink while he was around, and perhaps catch up on recent local going-ons, he decides to go join the folks at the kegs.

Ok, Ben is reworked. Gone is his penchant for necromancy, replaced with a focus on divination. Conjuration is his secondary focus. Do we have a healer? If not, I'll replace his conjuration spell with CLW, although he doesn't get many castings a day.

Ralleck has CLW, but its very limited in uses per day. Kapenia could potentially access CLW, by preparing it. Pietro gets Lay on Hands eventually. So from the sounds of it, we have a few people who can each provide limited amounts of healing, I expect one more wouldn't hurt to get us through low levels.

Lol, indeed.

Pietro Morvan wrote:

As I mentioned, Pietro grew up in Wicken and might've been childhood friends with anyone involved.

Even the most villainous of miscreants is usually just a kid when they're kids. Most antisocial behavior is a result of traumatic past or some other form of being molded into who the person is. Source: a BS in that BS. Also, I taught elementary school for a few years IRL, and regardless of what socioeconomic class, regardless of cultural background, regardless of almost anything - you still have kids who act exactly the same. Kids are usually just kids. They wanna run, play tag, play pretend, hide and seek, whatever...and they'll do it with complete strangers they just met if they're other kids.

And while Pietro would've been a kid who beat up bullies, he'd otherwise still have been a regular old kid back then. Anyone within a few years' range could've grown up and established a relationship long ago before he left the town. Honestly, it's a simple hook the will work for most folks within a few years of his age, regardless of personality - for the most part. I mean, if you were the bully...

Given his physical fitness, innate dislike of bullies, and charismatic nature, Pietro would've naturally made quite a few friends...maybe by roughing up a bully (kids are awful - I may mention bullies a lot but if I learned one thing teaching, it's that there's ALWAYS at least 3 per class. Minimum.) or helping someone out with something else. He was after all just a good kid.

He also grew up on a farm just outside of town, so he could know people from market trips selling grain. It's one reason he wields a scythe. (The other being its inherent badass factor.) He's just used to holding one.

Well, like I think was already discussed in the recruitment thread, we could always have some sort of shared backstory based on the time spent serving in the City Watch together, if you are still interested in such.

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

Well, I don't expect that Ralleck is terribly conflicted, if anything, he's got a rather single-minded certainty, at the moment, though whether it remains so is an entirely different question :P

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

Well, Ralleck was in the city for a while as per his background, dunno whether it would be reasonable that he would know her in the city, or if you would even want such to be the case. But, as stated, I'm always open to adapting my backstory to include others, if others wish such.

Mmm........ honestly, I don't know what to take as a feat. XD; We're not using Spheres stuff, so there's really no way to get an effective attack going. Any suggestions?

Well, you are a mesmerist, so Spell Focus/greater spell focus enchantment never goes amiss.

hmmm...for those times I end up clawing at people eyes trying to decide if I want to add +1 to my claws, or +1 to my natural armor....

Taking Mother's Gift for the feat, so that I can get Awakened Hag Heritage ASAP at 3.

Well, dunno if you'd have much hope of hitting or damaging anyone with claws even with +1, if you are a 1/2 BaB class. Nat armor sounds a bit more useful, though.

Pietro Morvan wrote:
Furious Focus or Skill Focus - Intimidate? Planning on getting Cornugun Smash eventually. Or does anyone else have a good suggestion for an intimimancer?

Well, you've already gotten a fairly high intimidate, and the DC to demoralize is only 10 + the target’s Hit Dice + the target’s Wisdom modifier, which isn't that high for a skill DC even against high WIS enemies. So, dunno whether SF Intimidate is worth it, when there will be other ways to raise your bonus as you level anyways. Furious Focus might be better, the penalty to hit from power attack can be a pain at low levels.

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

I suppose Ralleck shall gain Evolved Summon Monster. Being a 2/3 BaB class, he can't access most of the useful melee-related feats at level 1, so, may as well work on being better with the summoning side of the build for now.

GM Doom! wrote:

For whatever reason the PBP boards crash every time I try to add anything to the campaign info tab. So until that is fixed here are a few things that might be relevant to your planning

- We arent using XP points. You will just level at the end of each chapter. Assume that this means you will level a bit slower than is standard.

- Crafting. There is plenty of opportunity for downtime and at many points of the adventure it only moves as quickly as you want it to. Even so I usually play with faster crafting. Mundane item crafting I usually just drop everything by one time increment. Week crafting time shortens to day. Day to Hour etc. For crafting magical items I just lump values together. 1-5k in value takes a day. 5-10k takes two days. 10-15k 3 days. Etc.

- I have been thinking about this and because we are playing to a lower level AND leveling will be slower (and no one is playing a fighter) I am thinking I will either give out a couple extra feats or use feat tax rules to help feat dependent builds come online a little sooner. Would everyone be okay with this? I dont want a big power creep but I also dont want someone to have to spend the first 9 months of our game waiting on that one feat that unlocks what they want to play.

I'm always up for getting more feats or using feat tax rules :P

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

Dot.

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

Well, Pietro is likely better in melee than Ralleck ever will be, so odds are it is best to buff Pietro,as he is actually meant for this sort of role. Additionally, Ralleck can make flanking partners for himself or others as well(Standard action summons are great for that sort of thing, and he can eventually give them teamwork feats.) But yeah, ultimately, I don't think either of us get anything special from flanks, beyond the attack bonus, which is nice.

Male Human(Heart of the Fey) Ravener Hunter/Monster Tactician Inquisitor 1

In terms of mechanics, Ralleck is built for two-handed damage as well, though he has some spells for healing and buffing, as well as some useful social skills and utility, which should improve as well level. Of course, he also suffers from being a ⅔ bab class. Additionally, he has standard action summon monsters, for area control and additional melee and utility support. Backstory, personality, and such is in the Alias, though I’m always open to adjusting things to include relations with other PCs. Needless to say, even though he's not really the most terrible person, he likely has fewer issues with the forceful removal of kidneys and such. For the greater good :P

Pietro Morvan wrote:

Vagrant Erudite here.

I really feel like challenging myself with the paladin and not just a lawful good meleer, so I believe I will stick with a spelless pally archetype and human.

Rallek, yeah I was skimming the aliases and noticed that too. I could change the aforementioned lieutenant to be Sergeant Smiles, and heck, we could work in a childhood friendship and/or rivalry from growing up in the same town.

Something like "Yes, Rallek was here, and of course it was good to see a friendly face, but even he'd changed since the years had gone by. He didn't look the other way, either, but my old friend didn't bother with the red tape or paperwork. I could never prove it but I'm sure he did something to that child prostitute's pimp we caught. We never saw another kid...at least in his stable...but he still won't tell me what happened. All I know is that pimp walks with a limp and shivers any time I mention former officer Lamora. Yeah, former. He had enough sense to get out. Guess I'm just a stubborn fool."

Hope that wouldn't be intruding Rallek.

Yeah, that seems to be a fairly reasonably sort of description of Ralleck. He was originally based on Walter Kovacs from the Watchmen series, though, due to not having Kovacs’ parental issues or fascist ideals, he is generally a more pleasant person to be around. The concept has moved away from that since then, but, even so, he does have a willingness to engage in fairly brutal vigilantism, even after leaving the Watch, having long ago given up on operating within the confines of the law. Assuming both our characters are selected, I’d be down for incorporating some sort of friendship or frenemies, I expect Pietro would be one of the few people in the Watch Ralleck would respect, even if Ralleck’s attitude and actions would often clash with those of more LG individuals. And, well, the differences in the preferred methods of Inquisitors and Paladins would always be entertaining to rp out.

I'm also always down to make adjustments and additions to my backstory to incorporate other PCs, should this character be selected. It seems that at least one other person has a character who was working for the City Watch as well.

For the record, Vindictive Bastard archetype is always a good option for people worried about paladin's falling. Or barring that, the Absolute Loyalty trait is an easy way to atone, if one can justify it.

Backstory and personality information have been added to profile. I’m still fiddling around with things, but, for the most part, this should be done. I listed out a few people he knows in Castorhage and Wicken.

For the most part, he is someone who is less than fond of the current state of affairs in Castorhage, and would very much like to see a change to a more competent and less corrupt administration, violently, if need be.

Kapenia wrote:

OK. I read the player's guide and fell in love with the setting. I redid the profile so here's Kapenia's updated crunch. 1 question: background skills?

It says we are using them in the OP "We will use background skills. You may choose two."

Unless you were asking what they were, in which case here

Usmo here. Build is mostly done, currently working on backstory and personality. For the most part, the character has useful utility from skills, Inquisitor class features, and spells, can do a bit of healing, however, in terms of combat, it is focused on being a frontliner(will be upgrading to heavy armor as soon as I have the gold), and some control with Summons.

Good luck to all!

So I have an aasimar oracle raised by Shoanti, and I was wondering if I could take the Shoanti tatoo trait? It's normally only available to humans with the Shoanti ethnicity, but given her background it would fit pretty well. Other than that she's all ready to go.

If it helps, taking the Scion of Humanity alt racial trait would allow you to count as human, thus opening up the trait.

Still fiddling around, but this should be mostly done. Human Arcanist with Occultist archetype, primarily geared towards control and summoning. As we level, I expect its role to expand to buffing and utility as well.

Usmo here, mostly done with my warpriest build, still fiddling around though. It will be primarily geared towards archery, though it can still do some healing and party-wide buffing, if need be. I intend to pick up Dervish Dance eventually in order to use a Cutlass as a melee backup.

About Me:

I have been playing Pathfinder for about three years, all of it in PbP format, though I have played far less on the Paizo forums. My favorite PbP game thus far was a homebrew campaign run on a seperate forum. If I had to pick a Paizo published adventure, though, it would be an ongoing Crypt of the Everflame campaign I am in.

I’m not the sort to write overly long posts, but, I do enjoy the roleplaying aspects of the game, primarily interacting with other PCs and NPCs. However, combat is a close second.

Yeap, good luck to all!

Sounds good to me!

@ Ralleck: looks good. Very minor point, though, Falcon's Hollow is remote enough that by the time word got out of what's happening it would be too late to get there. Maybe Ralleck has just come home from his last adventure, either to recover or show off or for some other reason? As I say, very minor point but it's part of the plot that no outside help is available in time.

Backstory has been edited.

Background has been added.

This is Usmo's Skald, so far. Background is still WIP.

Usmo here again, still very much a work in progress. Though, now that I look at it, I do wonder if my backstory is not too similar to Rydell's :P

Finally settled my own backstory/concept. He is a druid from Crystalhurst who originally came to Ustalav to study that lands strange taints, in the hopes of perhaps even gaining an insight into the Darkblight that affects his own home.

Usmo here again, this is the druid character I referred to earlier(obviously, open to change, as dunno whether Dual Talented human would be allowed, or how other things like traits will work out).

Insofar as gming goes, I too am a little uncertain as to whether I'd be much good for it, though. Guess if we're going with rotation, I may have to bow out of this one.

Yeap, good luck to all.

Tweaking done, I think.

Probably needs more tweaking, but, for the most part, this is me.
