if you want the boots have the boots. Flavor is just as important as anything else! I once had a magical sword on a character that the wizard gave to him. He was a pretty dumb fighter always forgetting things. So the wizard told me from now on he was going to call me I-OWE-A Sword, which got shortened to Iowa Sword. Which became my characters name for his whole career.

In another campaign that was very magic low, my rogue found a dagger that was cursed so that every time he drew it, it screamed. Hard for a sneaky guy to use. Until a few levels later when I put all my skill points into bluff and intimidate and the GM was both chagrined surprised and after that impressed that I used the screaming dagger to scare the hell out of monsters and people.

Look at my magical dagger, it is very powerful and sentient and will kill you! Bwa ha ha ha!

in a couple of levels Rai is going to develop his own tumor familiar which is going to be a mini Ike. A mini blob who can shape shift into different familiars. So be prepared for homage.

it's all about logic and being pragmatic. Most of the things we fight want what we have or want to eat us or want something we won't want to give up. That's it. Survival.
