Say, what's this?

Come on by. I will answer spoiler questions, but I'll use the cloaking device. You won't have to see them if you don't want to.

Allow me to suggest a great way to kick off PaizoCon (whether or not you're attending) and to score one of the earliest-available copies of Lord of Runes.

Since the perpetrator seems too shy to post it on these boards, I'll leave Gnomatsu's latest creation here.

Without resorting to sculpting them myself, I'm keen to find some existing miniature terrain to represent the ten-foot-tall stone heads at the Sihedron Circle below Rimeskull. Rough approximations work for me. Any suggestions?

Today I noticed a new review for Prince of Wolves... and then one for Winter Witch, and one for Master of Devils, and for Queen of Thorns, and for King of Chaos.

Soon I realized that the reviewer, Jeremy Corff, posted 18 (eighteen!) brief reviews of Pathfinder Tales novels today. I'm not sure whether he's finished, but he's darned close to having one for each book in the line.

So thanks, Jeremy. I hope your tireless efforts are an inspiration for all who've been meaning to post their own reviews.

Over the years I've accumulated way more pre-painted minis than I'd realized. It's been years since I last sorted them properly, so the time has come for a lost weekend of organizing.

The bigger ones (dragons, giants, and so on) have moved to the bookshelf. I'm re-categorizing the now-25 plastic drawers, having deleted a few for figures that moved to the shelf and added a few (like demons and devils) where I think I'll need a full drawer.

So far I have 21 categories. A few might be tight, and others might be a little loose, so there'll be a revision phase later. But for now, I'm wondering whether there might be four more categories I should consider.

Below is a list of what I've sketched out so far. Considering I have most of the D&D minis and all of the Pathfinder, what categories would you imagine I'm overlooking? I'm also open to suggestions on changing existing categories.

Half-Breeds & Rare Humanoids
Aberrations & Bugs
Beast Men
Animals
Furnishings, Statues & Traps
Trolls & Ogres
Goblins
Undead
Demons
Devils
Orcs & Hobgoblins
Reptile Men
Elementals & Constructs
Elves & Drow
Dwarves, Gnomes, and Halflings
Aquatic Creatures
Human Warriors & Rogues
Human Spellcasters
Human Commoners & Guards
Fae & Woodland Creatures
Named Heroes & Villains

What made them your favorites?

If you go to Gen Con, make sure to attend Auntie Lisa's story hour or at least pop by the Paizo booth to say hi. Here's what she told me about Gen Cons past.

While the point of the interview is Grandmother Fish, his cool new book on evolution for kids, Jonathan also talks about D&D and why the new edition's biggest challenge is Pathfinder.

It's a testament to my affection for Wes that I don't refer to him as "Fwesley" throughout the interview. And also perhaps my sense of self-preservation.

To dilute the self-promotion at my website, I've begun interrogating writers, editors, artists, and other creators with whom I've worked or associated. First up is Richard Lee Byers, author of Called to Darkness.

I'm calling this quiz Creative Colleagues, and it'll appear about once a week, perhaps a little more often. I hope you'll check it out and leave a comment for the subject.

Mike sent me a nice note via Twitter a couple of years back, so I knew the Penny Arcade boys were reading my Pathfinder boys and digging on riffle scrolls and elbow spurs. I began to hope they'd do a Radovan and the Count joke one day. Recently, Mike Selinker offered to deliver signed copies of King of Chaos to the PA offices, and it looks like they've been doing some dramatic readings.

This morning's PA blog broke my website.

Or maybe it was this morning's comic.

Either way, the joke's even funnier if you've read the book.

You have read the book, haven't you?

The reddit/r/fantasy crew are hosting a series of "Pop AMAs" (Ask Me Anything) from Worldcon, and they're making me go first. Come on over and ask me anything you like, especially if it's about King of Chaos or the adventures of Radovan and the Count.

Pathfinder Tales authors including James Sutter, Howard Andrew Jones, Chris Jackson, and Yours Truly hope to see you at Gen Con. Here's where you can find me.

Officially, it's an Ask Me Anything in celebration of the new Skull Island eXpeditions fiction line from Privateer Press--but it is Ask Me Anything, so the upcoming King of Chaos and all my Pathfinder Tales work is fair game. I probably won't spoil much in the way of KoC, but I can "spoil" a few facts that haven't gone out widely.

Also attending are SIX authors C.L. Werner, Miles Holmes, and Larry Correia.

Dark Archive Contributor

Pricey for the lot, but you could start a nice set with one of the inexpensive entry points.

Go ask Howard about his Dabir and Asim novels, Plague of Shadows, or his upcoming Pathfinder Tales novel at Reddit. Don't forget to upvote the topic and the your favorite questions.

If you're in or near Seattle, I hope you'll join me at the University Bookstore on Friday, 25 January at 7:00 pm. I'll read a bit, perhaps including a preview of something coming later this year, and then sign Prince of Wolves, Master of Devils, Queen of Thorns, and Winter Witch. You can have Elaine's autograph on that one, too, thanks to the miracle of bookplates and international post. (Hi, Elaine!)

If you're on Facebook, join the open event. You might spot a few Paizo celebrities in attendance. Even if you can't make it, please spread the word to any current or nascent Pathfinder Tales readers.

Dark Archive Contributor

All day, you can Ask Me Anything over at Reddit's Fantasy subreddit. I hope you'll ask about Pathfinder Tales.

And tonight I'll join Perram and Ryan for their 50th episode of Know Direction, LIVE. There will also be specialer guests.

While we're at it, check out the lovely things Mordicai wrote about the Radovan & the count novels at tor.com.

Mark your calendars for November 19 and 21. We're hosting two chats at different times to accommodate folks from different time zones. Come hang out with the authors of the free web fiction stories. What's that? You haven't read them all? Get thee hither and amend thy defect!

Better still, post a review of your favorite stories, especially those languishing review-less.

This issue has only leaped out at me with Jade Regent, since I've run previous APs from PDF files, and now I'm working from the printed product (which is a hit with my group).

I don't care as much where the illustrations appear in relation to their descriptions, but I would love to see maps and their keys appear on the same spread, preferably on pages full of room descriptions, not necessarily starting with the first area description. The more cross-referenced content I can see without turning the page, the better.

Also, I'd love to see overland maps appear on the same spread as the descriptions of the caravan travel. They needn't be new maps, but it'd be a great reinforcer to have a graphic reference while reading the text description. Alternatively, in APs that cover a lot of territory, I'd prefer to have maps on the endpapers rather than the (admittedly gorgeous) monster illustrations. Granted, I'm more a location guy than a monster guy.

The dream would be to have newly illustrated maps representing those that Sandru uses for his journeys. But reprints of existing maps would be fine.

Bill Ward interviews me at Black Gate. Look for updates next Saturday and the Saturday after that.

Ryan and Jefferson at Know Direction also have a few questions for me (in the middle of this program). I look forward to talking with those boys in person at Gen Con.

If you get a kick out of these interviews, let the sites know by posting a comment. They feature a lot of other cool stuff you might dig.

More Master of Devils interviews are coming soon. I'll try to post pointers to them everywhere, but the most reliable place for updates will be my blog.

Just added to the PaizoCon calendar, a couple of readings from Master of Devils. If you're free at noon Friday or Saturday, pop in to be the first to hear what's next for Radovan & the boss.

Here's my dance card for next weekend. Between events, you'll probably find me in the lounge.

The World Horror Convention in Austin hosts a mass signing on Saturday, April 30. You don't a con membership to attend; it's free and open to the public.

I'll be signing Prince of Wolves, which Paizo generously added to the convention gift bag, and any other of my books you bring along. If nothing else, come keep me company while I sit beside all those best-selling authors with their long lines and tiger blood.

More info and links on my revived Blogspot site. While you're there, please leave a comment to let me know what you'd like to see on that site.

I look forward to meeting more Austin-area Pathfinders.

If you've read Prince of Wolves, please take a few minutes to answer these questions:

1. Apart from Chapter Two, which is the best chapter to read to folks who haven't yet read the book? I'd like to read a different chapter and point folks to the Chapter Two available free at paizo.com.

2. Help me settle a bet: Are you a member of "Team Radovan" or "Team Jeggare"? More importantly, why?

3. Which of the secondary characters would you most like to see again? Why? The "why" is the helpful part.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I'm off for a few more hours to mind chores, after which it's back to work on [redacted], a story for the glorious Wayfinder, and then Chapter Seven of [redacted], the next Radovan & the Count novel.

I'd hoped to find a thread analogous to the one containing fan-created battle-maps, art, and player handouts in the Rise of the Runelords sub-folder, but I haven't found one (or possibly I've overlooked it). Can someone point me toward it if it exists?
