I got the "Warm rocket and soilent green salad" reference, though! Made me laugh.
thank you, that menu took a great deal of planning to create just the right gastronomic journey of complimentary flavors and PUNishments
Did someone call?
Oishi was a character(waitlisted guest-char because I didn't make it in time for end of recruitment) in the now-dead "Cooking up trouble" of Lady Firedove, a culinaric campaign with all PC's being cooks in the employ of a lord. His food specialty was sentient creatures. He could teach all of you amateurs something about proper preparation of those ^_^
"Your math is as accurate as your ice cream is tasty, and I share your hope. I just hope all the cooks will still be here."
Seriously, I've not been with pbp long, but I've seen games drop dead due to GM disappearing. Most of those either pulled a no-show, or just up and went missing. In this case, she gave advance notice, had a very stressful time and a toddler, and probably some work getting new stuff together. So long story short, I'm quite willing to believe that Firedove is actually coming back to this, and looking forward to all your future shenanigans.
"Young Lady, I believe everybody that was not....consumed by their passion, is still around."
Really though, if GM has a hard time right now, nobody stands to gain from forced posts. Just imagine Firedove is on a 2-week vacation, as she pretty much announced that time frame.
Looking forward to reading more from you guys next week :)
Oishi sits down at his table, opening a nice bottle of Chianti he aquired from the Wine Cellar. It would go fabulous with the Fava Beans and the Fresh Liver he....aquired...on the market.
If only some bard were around to play a violin.
That Philip seemed a decent fellow. I should invite him to join me for dinner on one of his free days...
His room was modest, but he still felt as if he was dining o...with high society in this tower.
Oishi comes unbidden into the Restaurant meeting, and bows to all the fellow cooks
"Best of luck to all of you, for the opening night!"
Then he hands Chef Sali a scroll of paper, seemingly written with great care and large letters, as he overheard her thinking aloud and got bored earlier
It reads:
"Greetings, dear Guests, to Lord Schmultzfeathers tower,
we'd like to impress you with our food power,
while you glance over there at the Reichenbach Falls,
only restricted by these here glass-made walls,
Your cooks for tonight, and all future dinings,
we introduce to you, with a spotlight shining,
First up for Soups, Vincent del Sol,
he had went to a war, it was a close call,
his Bread Partner tonight, Tessara the Green,
her skilled kind, around her, seldom seen,
For the second course, chef Bahram von-Humperdinck,
skilled with a knife, and cheeses that stink,
His partnered cook Mimi, Mistress of Chop Fu,
her vegetable art a big boost for the crew,
The third dish tonight, part of it meat,
from Philip Gastone, brought right to your seat
the other part seafood from our very own Gillman,
Kehlysch his name, savant with the frying pan,
the grand finale, again split in two,
Ashley Kusuma Na-ti will serve a fine brew,
and Dinte Dolce, the "Sweet Tooth" he's called,
brings up the dessert, and hopes you're enthralled,
Dear guests, we took enough of your time,
entertaining you with wit and rhyme,
Let the music play and the dinner begin,
enjoy the evening and leave with a grin!"
Then, with a smile, Oishi bows, and leaves back for his room also dotting in on gameplay thread, and aye, i know not all the parts are equally good, but english is not my native tongue and thats the best I can do
I had already meant to post yesterday, but seemingly made the mistake of only previewing and then closing the tab. So, again---
Languages:
I did alter Oishi slightly, also to make him old(Stats are basically the same as before) and fit with his choosen character image.
I also picked up some Languages. Infernal and Abyssal, it's really weird, but if you are looking for instruction on preparing meals from sentient beings, those are almost the only languages in which you can find proper books on the topic.
Additionally, I picked up Elven. Elves have some of the most ancient cooks alive, and that experience translates into some amazing techniques, and learning them first-hand helps a lot.
Lastly, I picked up Aboleth, to help with non-land-dwelling creatures, and the oceans have so much to offer in creatures. I have yet to convince a Gillman(*glance towards Kehlysch*) to partake in..er...Dinner ..preparation, though.
@Mimi, I can totally relate to your actions, didn't seem antisocial to me. You just happened to stand next to him and had the best option at reacting. He stepped out of line, on the first day, no less, and many characters seemed irritated at that.
If you are feeling chatty, you can also always visit my room here, by pretext of partaking in my own vast experience, seeing how we may well be from a similar culture. That invitation to visit/chat here is open to everybody, of course.
On a similar note, if somebody wants a parrot, you have until dinner time to pick one up :D
Just as a suggestion, maybe it would help if Bahram used this Discussion place to explain what he actually tried to pull there. Obviously it went awry, but while it would be in my best interest to get him fired, I feel that he deserves a chance to explain what he was up to(as in, was it pure mischief for chaos's sake, or did he actually have some cunning plan that simply failed.) Just in case this option did not occur to him yet. But I figure knowing the intent goes a long way towards deciding the correct reaction. As in, maybe he only meant to find out IF the kitchen crew has spares and can access those drawers, meaning they are not completely save...or maybe he meant to find out where the spares are so that he could sabotage you guys. Went wrong, obviously, and that bluff was not the best way to do it imho(could just purposefully forget the key on the first shift and ask for a spare, totally honest), but, yeah...anyway, I'd suggest he take up the hints in gameplay and "discuss" this here to help people decide how they react. Also, my guess is that Chief-Chef Sali simply has a general key for the kitchen and ALL drawers and would help out if ever needed.
After he is done sifting throught the books pages, Oishi stretches his old bones and lays down on the hard bed:"Ah, I can't remember when I last had the luxury of a early-afternoon nap." He yawns, and slightly adjusts his position.
Shortly after he falls asleep and soft snoring can be heard, people passing by his door can maybe hear something else:
Oishi hears a commotion upstairs.
"Well, I guess they are settling in at work.", he softly says to a very traumatized-looking bird sitting alone in a cage next to him, prompting soft muttering from the bird:"Polly wants to unsee things.".
Oishi leans back, places his legs atop the small table in his spartanic room, and reaches for a book on his nightstand, speaking more with himself than with the bird: "Really kind of this Chef Sali person to have met me in person yesterday, and allow me to borrow this ancient cookbook for research to pass the time."
Oishi has a very hard time reading anything, but some of the illustrations, he finds quite helpful.
Only if you speak Infernal:
"Humans, Elves, Dwarfs and Halflings. Basic recipes and storage tips, with a foreword by the Lilin Chef Alis"
Only if you're a good sport:
Now how would that be for a plot twist? Obviously just kidding, though.
Oishi, asked to remain on standby, had wandered off into the city, originally having planned to take a look at the available seafoods, since he was unable to find the veggie hunter and nobody could tell him where she went.
On the market, he found a merchant of exotic wares offering some kind of talking animal.
knowledge nature(20):
Trained parrot
Hm. Talking is a sign of sentience, even if they sound like they are not very smart. I did decide to try to include more sentient creatures in my creations. I wonder what i could create with those...
Checking his pockets, he finds some coins left, and purchases a cage, with two birds inside.
"You will make for a delicious dinner!" Oishi explained to them, while heading back to the tower. "Polly hungry", answered one of the birds, and Oishi took that as a go-ahead for his plans.
...
...
Just wanted to let you know that opposed to what i said in PN, i will likely stick around for now, including following gameplay, so if there ever is need(or you need someone setting up a plot hook for you) feel free to call on me. Sorry for abusing discussion thread for this, i'll leave you guys to playing now :)
"Well, Congratulations to all of you are in order. It would seem I failed to convince the Schmultzfeathers. Your culinary exploits must have been top-notch, I suppose.
Ah well, there's much to learn yet. I suppose my journey is not yet over. Guess I'll try and go find that girl who made vegepygmy steak. I have not tasted many sentient races yet, and need to fix that shortcoming of my skills. Best of luck to all of you in your endeavours."
A seemingly blind man enters the Audience Chamber.
Quote:
"Greetings! I am Lord Schmultzfeather, and this is Lady Schmultzfeather. Who are you, and why do you want to be a chef at my fine new restaurant?"
The man bows towards the Schmultzfeathers, then rises and smiles:"My name is Oishi, Oishi Tabemono. I have travelled far and wide, in search of exotic animals to turn into tasty delicacies. Unfortunately, most people do not seem to cherish the "exotic" aspects of my work. I imagine a restaurant such as yours would me more welcoming of my cuisine. As I heared, you are a man of exquisite taste!"
Trying to make a good impression. I used Embrace Destiny before entering, for an extra D20 to use. 1d20 ⇒ 15 Diplomacy:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 And a good thing i was prepared, because that means its: 15 + 8 = 23 instead.
Quote:
"I see; I see. Which is your Consumable Specialty?"
If necessary, another option to use Embrace Destiny here, for my Profession Check 1d20 ⇒ 14
Profession(Chef):1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 And good here, too: 14 + 6 = 20 instead.
Oishi answers without pausing to think:"Things that were alive. In all manners and forms. There is so much you can do with them, so much you can do with spices, prepare it in so many forms. It is an art form, I assure you."
Quote:
"Please describe the three Consumable Specialty samples you have brought as we taste them now..."
"First off, as a starter, a Steak Tartar with egg yolk, onions, pepper and capers. It really shows off the quality of the meat."
Taking 10 on Craft Checks(12 by trait). During preparation, use Guidance, then use Focused Trance to top it off. Craft(Meat):12 + 15 + 20 = 47
"The second course is a Troll Steak with exotic spices and a fine sauce based on wine and cheese, with a side of carrots and potatos."
As the servant that cast detect poison moves to speak up, Oishi continues:
"You see, it is a common misconception that troll meat should not be consumed by humans. Some nonsense about it continuing to regenerate, then kill you from the inside. Urban Legend, really. The real reason it is not usually consumed is it's texture, it's usually not a very tender meat. Through some special and secret treatment, however, i made sure that its as soft and flavorful as possible. Please enjoy."
Craft(Meat):12 + 15 + 20 = 47
"And the final course, the dessert, so to say, is a bacon surprise. It is a bacon-based flower of flavour, with alternating layers of bacon, spices, cheeses, and vegetables. Do not be unwise, judge it not by it's size, you won't believe your taste buds, taste the flavours as they rise."
Craft(Meat):12 + 15 + 20 = 47
Quote:
"Interesting flavors! Now, explain exactly why I should hire you (and not someone else) for this elite position."
"Because this is what I life for. Everything I did was in the interest of furthering my skill and craftsmanship as a chef. My eyes may fail me, but my other senses compensate adequately. I smell, I taste, I hear the food. As I said, cuisine is art, and i'm an artist, and as a man of taste, I am sure you know this."
Quote:
"If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?"
Ambitious, curious, savant.
Quote:
"Finally, please indulge me a strange question: What makes you laugh the most?"
Oishi takes some time to think:"Indeed, a strange question. I would say the sound of children playing warms my heart. The taste of a new flavour warms my spirit. Alas, I would say what makes me laugh the most, is happiness itself. He who is satisfied with his life laughs easily and often."
Quote:
"Thank you; thank you. You'll be called for if you are chosen. Next!"
Oishi thinks for a moment:"Mylord, there is one more gift I want to share with you. Something that often serves as an inspiration for me. If I may be so bold as to approach?"
If allowed, Oishi casts "Dream Feast" on both Lord and Lady Schmultzfeather
