Male Human

Njord clasps his hand on Lackey's shoulder, smiling grimly.

"I seem always get ass handed to me," Njord jokes, climbing into the dingy. "Still, we give good as we get, no?"

As Lackey tosses the head of Viktor between Njord's legs, the Norseman looks to his new friend and blinks.

"This one cut above the rest, ja?"

Lackey erupts in laughter. It's contagious. The celebrating parade of badly beaten soldiers march forward through the tunnel. If they only knew the horrors awaiting them, the celebration would be far more subdued.

I'd love to see some roleplay/descriptive updates from Pinvendor's avatars at this point. We're coming up on six ominous days of silence.

Male Human

"Urg..." Njord moans, clambering out from under the fallen debris upon him. "Feel like hit by large bear...We win fight?"

HIP HIP HOORAY the surviving soldiers continue to shout!

Male Human

As Lackey Gunterman surges forward, Aimes isn't the only person he puts in danger. Njord, prepping for his next strike, is chip-blocked by the Kislevian giant, knocking him forward and off balance. Forced to engage prematurely, Njord uses his two handed sword as a lance:

Njord's Attacks: 6d100 ⇒ (44, 19, 25, 69, 88, 74) = 319 vs 50: 3

Njord's Defense: 4d100 ⇒ (24, 43, 59, 69) = 195 vs 40: 1

Hentaicle's Attack: 4d100 ⇒ (4, 36, 3, 19) = 62 vs 45: 3

Hentaicle's Defense: 5d100 ⇒ (88, 79, 67, 55, 33) = 322 vs 55: 2

Hentaicle has 5 successes to Njord's 4. The Octopussy wins!

Njord's Saving Throw: 1d100 ⇒ 63 vs 47: FAIL! Ouch! But this seems a proper time to use a Fortune Point, leaving Njord with one point to spare. The use of the Fortune Point will allow me to re-roll Njrod's Saving Throw.

Njord's Saving Throw (RE-ROLL): 1d100 ⇒ 95 vs 47: FAIL! Ooooph, dark times.

Njord thinks to throw Lackey an insult but there is little time. The Norseman is knocked 10 feet into the back of the tunnel by a mighty slap from a frenzied tentacle!

Agility check to see if Njord can maintain his hold on his weapon:

1d100 ⇒ 33 vs 31: FAIL! Disaster all around for Njord!

HOW IT ALL UNFOLDS:

The panther like barbarian is catapulted through the air, crashing hard into the timbers of the roof above before landing with a brutal blood filled splash into the cold waters.

There is a heaving shock that explodes along the supports as all eyes go wide in horror. A moment later the back passage collapses, Njord underneath! The Norseman vanishes in a falling wave of stone and wood.

Njord has failed too many rolls, his saving throw included (twice). He'll be spending a Fate Point to stay alive.

Njord is dead?! And now there is no retreat!

Well, that certainly makes things simple you think. Fight or die! There are no longer any other options.

NJORD IS FROZEN AND OUT OF THE FIGHT!

Male Human

The maelstrom of combat explodes around Njord as he charges forward, trying to come to terms with the strange weight of the Imperial sword in his hand. Dodging and weaving, Njord leaps aside just as Aimes comes crashing past him with a mighty 'Oooooph!, splashing down hard. Two more steps is all it takes for Njord to stride into melee range with the horrific monstrosity!

Njord's Attacks: 5d100 ⇒ (91, 31, 95, 50, 44) = 311 vs 50: 3

Njord's Defense: 4d100 ⇒ (62, 11, 71, 7) = 151 vs 40: 2

Hentaicle's Attack: 4d100 ⇒ (4, 73, 58, 4) = 139 vs 45: 2

Hentaicle's Defense: 5d100 ⇒ (23, 90, 82, 44, 59) = 298 vs 55: 2

Njord has scored 5 successes to Hentaicle's 4. Njord wins!

Hentaicle's Saving Throw: 1d100 ⇒ 28 vs 40: PASS! Therefore, Njord fails to destroy the tentacle during his round.

HOW IT ALL UNFOLDS:

The massive tentacle that had swept Aimes through the room doubles back as Njord counters the strike, slashing hard and deep. It is a telling blow as slick oil sprays everywhere, but the limb remains intact. Njord's spits in anger.

"Bah, curse on Imperial steel," he shouts. "Good only for cutting grass!"

With a look of disgust he tosses the blade to Aimes, drawing his massive two handed sword in retribution:

1d100 ⇒ 22 vs 31 (AG): PASS!

Despite the cramped quarters and the difficult surroundings, Njord is able to draw his famed weapon, Sverð Sigr! The Norseman lowers his gaze towards the Octopussy and smirks with his trademark feral smile...

NJORD IS NOW FROZEN!

Male Human

There is a silent splash as Njord and Lackey dump the bloodied bodies of the mysterious men into the Wulfen River.

"Dey von't be missed eh?" Lackey jokes, wiping his hands clean on this tunic.

"Make good practice." Njord replies, grinning from ear to ear.

Side by side the two towering Snotballers march back into Wolfenburg proper, passing a massive walled estate where dangerous looking men guard the walls looking out. Their passing isn't unnoticed or undocumented.

Male Human

Njord stood, holding his numbered jersey and staring at a man even larger than himself. For long moments the Norseman studied the newcomer and then smiling slapped him on the back.

"I not sure what little girl shirt means, but I wear." Njord says jokingly, walking down the frozen streets of Wolfenburg with Lackey Gunterman. "But first, we get drink. Come, boar's piss ale!"

What neither Lackey nor Njord know is that in the days to come (should both survive), the men would become a legendary duo on the Snotball field, crushing anyone that stands in their way.

Male Human

"I tell once, I tell many times. I not Kurgan. I from Norsca. This is different!" Njord counters, his nineteenth such argument since arriving with the Gray Wolves into Wolfenburg.

"Yea? Well we don't like the look of you, Norseman! I think you're nothing but a no good Kurgan spy, that's what I think. And you know what we do with spies? We hang 'em by the neck!" A young soldier counters, standing with a pack of his comrades. Each of them wear dented armor with numbers painted on the chest and shoulders; the 'Warriors of Wolfenburg'.

Njord doesn't wait, plunging his fist straight into the face of the leading man. The fight that follows is brutal.

Because Njord is fighting three men, he'll need to win the fight by at least 3 successes! This is a brawl (thankfully), and all the men are fighting unarmed.

Njord's Attack: 5d100 ⇒ (30, 34, 54, 11, 72) = 201 vs 50 (WS): 3 SUCCESSES!
Njord's Defense: 4d100 ⇒ (46, 43, 33, 97) = 219 vs 40 (T): 1 SUCCESS!

Wolfenburg Warrior (1) Attack: 3d100 ⇒ (8, 24, 24) = 56 vs 35 (WS): 3 SUCCESSES!
Wolfenburg Warrior (1) Defense: 3d100 ⇒ (79, 31, 69) = 179 vs 30 (T): FAILED!

Wolfenburg Warrior (2) Attack: 3d100 ⇒ (21, 97, 85) = 203 vs 35 (WS): 1 SUCCESS!
Wolfenburg Warrior (2) Defense: 3d100 ⇒ (53, 80, 38) = 171 vs 30 (T): FAILED!

Wolfenburg Warrior (3) Attack: 3d100 ⇒ (70, 62, 75) = 207 vs 35 (WS): FAILED!
Wolfenburg Warrior (3) Defense: 3d100 ⇒ (97, 40, 30) = 167 vs 30 (T): 1 SUCCESS!

Not rolling a Saving Throw since this is unarmed combat and not to the death.

HOW IT ALL UNFOLDS:

Njord fights like a cornered lion, smashing his fists into the faces of the soldiers as they approach, or crashing his elbow into the side of exposed skulls. One man goes down as Njord lands a swift kick between his legs, while another topples backwards his nose spouting blood. But the surge of soldiers is too much. Leaping on Njord they hold him down and begin to kick him senseless. The Norseman collapses like a sack of bricks!

And then a voice rings out...

Male Human

Slamming into the undead horde like a bull, Njord begins to swing and chop his way into the mass of long dead soldiers and recently defeated Kurgan.

I'm going to give Njord a Perception check to see the situation Caspar is in. He doesn't have the skill so it'll be his INT/2.

1d100 ⇒ 13 vs 17 (Per): PASS! Good news, Caspar!

A skeletal warrior explodes into dust as Njord charges into the fray, bringing his blade around to sever a Kurgan zombie in twain! Just then he sees the trouble Caspar is in, and the massive skeletal Captain looming over him. Roaring in defiance, Njord charges the undead champion!

Njord Attack: 6d100 ⇒ (93, 67, 33, 22, 84, 75) = 374 vs 50 (WS): 2 SUCCESSES!
Njord Defense: 4d100 ⇒ (43, 26, 52, 7) = 128 vs 40 (T): 2 SUCCESSES!

Undead Champion: T 45 | W 12 | 4 Attack 40% | 3 Defense 40% | Default Saving Throw: 45%

Champion Attack: 4d100 ⇒ (38, 53, 27, 13) = 131 vs 40 (WS): 3 SUCCESSES!
Champion Defense: 3d100 ⇒ (31, 31, 79) = 141 vs 45% (T): 2 SUCCESSES!

Bad news for Njord! He has lost by 1 success...

The downward stroke of the skeletal overlord is parried and blocked by Njord just in time (saving Caspar's life)! There is a spray of sparks as steel strikes steel. SLASH, RIPOSTE, PARRY, BLOCK! The battle rages, but Njord loses his balance when he trips over Caspar's limp form in the snow. The undead Captain takes advantage and strikes a devastating blow!

Njord Saving Throw: 1d100 ⇒ 75 vs 47 (T + Wounds -5%): FAIL!

Oh boy...

Male Human

Njord prepares to pounce, his hefty two handed blade now unslung. Something small and bright flitters over head like a will-o-wisp, spraying sparks everywhere as it descends and bounces through the legs of the undead horde.

The 'Eye of the Raven' descends behind Njord as he howls a chant of defiance and charges blindly into the enemy ranks!

No time to resolve Njord's combat before I have to head out, but I wanted to show that he is in fact preparing to square off against the undead.

Male Human

"Good, let come," Njord says with solemn pride. "Blade not yet taste enough Kurgan blood. Still thirst for more."

The Norseman re-slings his sword and ducks low, entering the cool darkness below.

Male Human

"Women of Empire very strange," Njord comments and shrugs, turning his attention back to the two Dwarves who have nearly completed their explosive task.

Male Human

"You two fight like angry cats," Njord jokes, struggling to keep the fiery gypsy away from the minstrel.

Agility check for Njord to see if he can keep Gretta away from Caspar.

1d100 ⇒ 60 vs 31 (AG): FAIL!

Gretta breaks free (she's slippery being soaked in blood), hurling herself at Caspar with all her strength!

CASPAR: make an opposed Agility check as Gretta launches herself at you. Roll for both Gretta and yourself. Her agility is 38. After you get the results, post what happens. Note: Gretta HAS NOT drawn her dagger. Keep that in mind before you lop her head off.

Male Human

"I think things looking up," Njord says as he retrieves his blade from the skull of Largyn, watching as the Dwarves pack the entrance to the damaged secret passage with explosives. "First kiss from woman of Empire, then kill two Kurgan pigs! Life good, ja?"

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Human

Njord clearly understands the soft spoken command of his new Captain and Daemon Master, Albrecht. The savage Norseman strikes almost immediately!

The first blow is a downwards cut that quickly (and neatly) severs the head of the Kurgan prisoner. Blood SPRAYS into the snow like an opened ale cask...

LUTKE, make an agility check or the fountain of blood will spray all over you!

And poor Largyn, he never sees it coming. Njord's final slash is a downward cut that sinks with a horrible crunch into the top of Largyn's skull. Teeth fly everywhere! As his body hits the snow, the blade slides lose of Njord's grasp, a grim testament to the power of the Norseman.

Male Human

Njord pasues, then let's out an audible sigh.

"Maybe this why men of Empire live so long," he says at last. "Perhaps we try way of small red haired man."

Njord slaps you across the back, Capsar, his wide grin a strange slash of jovial brightness across a face that once knew only war and strife.

Male Human

Njord paces back and forth silently, walking then towards Albrecht.

"I am for smashing Kurgan where they stand. I am sure he no match for likes of you, Daemon Master. Our strength, your will, together we crush these Kurgan like small bear!"

Njord slams his stone like fist into his palm, anxious to once again draw the blood of his most hated foe.

Male Human

Njord has the skill of intimidate. I think that in this case it'll be appropriate. Quick note however from the rulebook:

Skill Type: Basic
Characteristic: Strength
Description: Use this skill to coerce or frighten others. Victims of intimidation may resist with a successful Will Power Test. Under certain circumstances (blackmail, etc) the GM may allow Intimidate Tests that are based on Fellowship instead of Strength.

That being said, I think Njord's strength should be used here as he's going to rough this Kurgan up. I'll use the -10% penalty you imposed however, as it appears this Kurgan is a tough customer.

With excessive force, Njord hoists the Kurgan marauder up by his throat, holding his feet mere inches from the ground. Then, in a language you don't need to understand, Njord begins to imply all the horrible things that are about to befall the man if he doesn't cooperate.

1d100 ⇒ 42 vs 31 (S - 10%): FAILED! It appears this Kurgan isn't going to break through simple threats...

Tossing the captive to the ground, Njord snaps angrily. "Daemon Master," Njord shouts, "I think perhaps we burn out tongue, yes? This one forget how to use it."

The eyes of the Kurgan warrior go wide.

Male Human

Thanks for the xp, Dagon! Glad you liked the description. Pinvendor, I addressed the issue of Nuln Artillery in the discussion thread. That being said, I'm going to once again be aggressive here because I'd like to test out the combat rules I fielded for suggestion to see how they work. Dagon, let me know what you think...

Njord scans the horizon, gripping the hilt of his impressive two handed blade, his fingers stained crimson from the rust stained iron on the hilt.

KABOOOOOOM! The massive report of Imperial Cannon shakes the very teeth in Njord's head as he surveys the scene below. And then he sees it. There! To the left and down the path, a Kurgan scout! A lone figure lurking in the trees, stooped low and breathing slowly like some ravenous forest cat.

With blinding speed, Njord brandishes his blade and lets out a shout of rage and anger, charging down the hill! The sudden change in the Norseman's posture stuns you all.

Taking liberties here (again to play test). The Kurgan scout is a light armored soldier with a horse. The horse is tethered deep in the trees. His purpose was to spot for incoming reinforcements from Middenheim. And while you're hardly the reinforcements the city of Wolfenburg expects, this scout MUST be silenced before he can report on your arrival.

Now for the new combat rules I suggested. I'm going to resolve this entire fight in one post. Njord is going to roll 6 combat dice for attack. 4 from WS, +1 from his two handed blade and +1 from his charge:

Njord's Attack: 6d100 ⇒ (49, 86, 18, 34, 45, 31) = 263 vs 45 (WS): 4 SUCCESSES!

That simulates Njord's flurry of attacks over the span of the fight. Now let's see how well he defended. I'll be rolling a total of 4 dice for his defense:

Njord's Defense: 4d100 ⇒ (79, 87, 51, 45) = 262 vs 40 (T): NO SUCCESSES! Njord is a raging blade master bent on attack only. He makes no move to guard or protect himself at all!

And now, I'll finish the fight by rolling the Kurgan's total attacks and his defense. We'll say for sake of story the Kurgan has a WS of 38 and a Toughness of 40.

Kurgan Attack: 3d100 ⇒ (27, 28, 77) = 132 vs 38 (WS): 2 SUCCESSES!

Kurgan Defense: 4d100 ⇒ (36, 54, 65, 98) = 253 vs 40 (T): 1 SUCCESS!

Doing the quick and easy 2nd grade level math, we see Njord has 4 total successes to the Kurgan's 3. Njord wins! Let's resolve to see if Njord has killed him. The Kurgan has 12 wounds. We'll add that to his Toughness of 40. This gives him a total of 52. Now we'll subtract -5% because Njord defeated him by 1 (5% per point of defeat).

Kurgan Life or Death: 1d100 ⇒ 12 vs 47 (Saving Throw): SUCCESS! The Kurgan has survived. This means Njord has a prisoner!

HOW THE FIGHT PLAYS OUT:

Bounding down the snow covered path, Njord slams into the trees howling with primal rage. You can see the flick and mad dash of his red steel sword as it impacts Kurgan steel. Both men give as well as they get, locked in a dance of death. You begin to mobilize to assist, but the fight is over faster than you can close the distance!

With a prideful look on his barbaric face, Njord marches a bleeding Kurgan warrior out of the trees and kicks him down in the snow before your feet.

Njord spits into the frozen tundra and glares at the fallen Kurgan marauder. "Daemon Master," he says with pride. "I find prisoner!"

Male Human

"I am ready to do part in this," Njord says, loading his pack with heavy materials and supplies. "Always wish to see Wolfenburg. Empire city very big. Learn this for myself."

You're amazed at the remarkable endurance of the Norseman. After Njord has packed up half the camp and assorted it on a huge lump on his pack, he leans over and grabs a small wooden spoon.

"Ready also to dig grave for half man. Look, I find shovel!" Njord grins.

Male Human

"Little half man served well as cloak," Njord intones, bowing his head.

Male Human

"Ah, that is most unfortunate." Njord proclaims at last, "And no way for man to die. Warrior should die on feet, not on back in cave..."

Grasping the hilt of his mighty two handed blade, Njord sheaths the weapon and begins to stretch like some savage jungle cat.

"Guess then we burn body, " Njord concludes. "Daemon Master, perhaps you assist in this?"

The Norseman turns his gaze towards Albrecht.

Male Human

Njord's eyes flicker open in amazement as he begins to stand, flexing his wounded arm with ease. Though it still hurts, the improvement is amazing.

"Hoi there, woman!" Njord calls across the fire, "You do good work. Njord thanks you and vows to ride you very soon!"

Gretta sighs, rolling her eyes, moving off to the next wounded Gray Wolf that needs her attention.

Male Human

Njord perks up at the mention of trolls. This challenge worthy of great ancestors! he thinks, excitement showing on his face.

Rolling a Common Knowledge (Norsca) check to see how much Njord may know about Trolls, as that is their native territory.

1d100 ⇒ 86 vs 33 (INT): FAILED! Perhaps if Njord really knew the danger Trolls posed to a motley band of adventurers such as this, he would be somewhat less excited to face them in battle...

Male Human

Shrugging at Gretta's indifference, Njord leans back, sipping his soup. The Norseman marvels in silence at his good fortune to still be alive. It must have been luck, sheer blind stupid luck. The Old Gods he worships are uncaring ones and respect only strength and victory in battle.

"I admire skill with iron pan," Njord smiles, nodding his head at Gretta. "Women of Empire stronger than look..."

Male Human

"Daemon Master," Njord bows his head, turning his gaze towards Albrecht. "I kill only one Kurgen sad to say. Ancestors not proud of this. In truth, not sure how we come to be here..."

Male Human

Ah, was wondering if there were any additional details.

Njord groans and then finding strength leans on his elbow, staring across the flickering fire at Gretta.

"Woman, now perhaps time to ride you like horse?" Njord flirts, smiling broadly.

1d100 ⇒ 19 vs 21 (FEL -10%): SUCCESS! Perhaps there's something about Njord's charm that finally melts the ice from Gretta's heart?

Male Human

Njord grumbles, badly wounded. He's alive, that much is certain from the pain, and someone has tended to his wounds.

"We kill many Kurgan?" Njord finally asks, his head pounding.

1d100 ⇒ 18 vs 40 (T): SUCCESS! Feeling his strength return, Njord sits up and looks about the small cave. What else does he see?

Male Human

I think for Albrecht it was 1d10 corruption for the stone not 1d100?

Stunned and bleeding, Njord tries to regain awareness:

1d100 ⇒ 78 vs 40 (T): FAILED! (But oh so close to a 77)! Gasping for breath, Njord slumps back into the snow, his froaen hand reaching for the hilt of his blade...

Male Human
Quote:
With a savage expression of victory, it wheels about to glare at the wizard.

Well, that's good news for Njord! He may live to fight another day. I'll be posting an update here soon. Perhaps an attempt to recover from the critical hit.

Male Human

Aye, tough indeed! A worthy foe for Njord. Either way, the 70 I rolled is well above his Toughness of 40%. And the only problem I foresee with rolling on the normal critical chart is that crits can go up to +10 or something, and we're likely to only ever take +1 or +2 crits due to how the new rules are laid out.

Either way, this spells trouble for Njord who I'll say is currently 'bleeding to death' in the snow! Perhaps if someone is able to come to his aid before too much blood is lost, or the Kurgan eats Njord!?

Male Human
Quote:
6d100 ⇒ (33, 59, 56, 51, 81, 71) = 351: 4 succeses.

Holy Sigmar! What's the Weapon Skill of this thing I'm fighting? Those are some really high numbers. The 33 I'd understand, but hitting on a 51, 56 and 59?! Ouch! Still, it's a dark world...

In an attempt to avoid the deadly claws of the Kurgan mutant, Njord throws himself headlong into the creature, bringing his massive shoulder up and into the chin of the beast!

I'm now at -1 Defense Dice due to Frenzy:

4d100 ⇒ (87, 14, 25, 53) = 179 vs 40 (T): 2 SUCCESSES! Njord is fast, but not fast enough! As he closes ground in a rage filled attempt to circument the next wave of attacks, the Kurgan anticipates and slashes upwards with both it's blood stained claws. Blood rakes into the air as Njord flips backwards, landing hard on the ice packed snow!

This final hit from the Kurgan will take Njord into the range of a critical hit! I'll roll a Toughness check -10% for the -1 crit past his wounds total...

1d100 ⇒ 70 vs 30 (T 40 - 10%): FAILED! As Njord hits the snow, the last thing he sees is the ravenous Kurgan leering over him, all teeth and claws. With a labored gasp of breath, the Norseman reaches for his blade, just inches from his grasp. He can't reach it! Then, darkness...

In theory this is a killing blow, but I await your final verdict.

Male Human

Of the two Kurgan Njord is fighting, one is still alive. Njord is FROZEN awaiting it's attack...

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Human

Time seems to slow as the first Kurgan splits in half, his torso hangs in the air spraying blood and viscera everywhere! Mutated organs pump and scream (!) as Njord's red steel blade severs vital bone and tissue!

The garroting cut is so fierce, Njord spins completely around (narrowly avoiding a wicked slash), and buries the blade into the head of the flying torso on his second bloody rotation. Blade, body and flesh slam into the snow, a volcano of human debris!

Ah yes, carnage!

Male Human

Gripping his massive two handed blade, his knuckles white to the bone, Njord slams Sverð Sigr down hard into the skull of the wounded Kurgan, anxious to taste brain and blood!

So again, this attack is directed towards the Kurgan Njord had slashed and disabled earlier, hoping to finish it off. Also keep in mind Njord now has 6 attack dice. 4 from WS, 1 from his weapon and 1 from frenzy:

6d100 ⇒ (59, 37, 32, 90, 95, 38) = 351 vs 45 (WS): 3 HITS! SLAAAAAAAASH! The Blade of Victory tears down as Njord lets out a primal howl of murderous rage!

Male Human

Go Gretta Go! And on that note...

Njord is a whirlwind of death, spinning from one white skinned adversary to the next, his rust red iron blade splitting the air with a mighty SWOOOOOSH! with each barbaric swing!

But then the inevitable counter attack comes and the Norseman is forced back, kicking up snow into the eyes of the Kurgen mutants to blind them, blocking wildly, and rolling dangerously in an attempt to avoid their flailing claws.

I still think it seems a bit powerful for me to be able to fully defend against both Kurgen with 5 dice, but that's discussion for another time. Since you ruled it a possibility for this conflict, I'll continue with that line of logic:

5d100 ⇒ (95, 62, 24, 29, 49) = 259 vs 40 (TOUGH): 2 SUCCESSES! *KLANG!* Njord brings his massive blade around, deflecting the first attacks. Moments later the second Kurgen leaps into view!

5d100 ⇒ (82, 69, 9, 70, 68) = 298 vs 40 (TOUGH): 1 SUCCESS! There is a grisly slashing sound as wicked claws tear through Njord's arm. Long raking razor red claw marks begin to bleed terribly, red ribbons of blood leaking into the white snow! Njord has taken one more wound. He has one remaining.

And here comes the inevitable Will Power check vs Frenzy:

1d100 ⇒ 71 vs 32 (WP): FAILED! The pain, hate and anger is too great. The ferocious wolf demon that lives inside Njord explodes outwards in a howl of blood curdling rage! A red sheen of pulsing aggression slides over Njord's eyes like a veil. Fenrir, the Norseman's more savage version of Ulric, takes hold of Njord. It is a terrible sight to behold...

Njord now has +1 to his attack dice but -1 to his defense. He also has +10 Will Power (vs Fear/Terror). Unfortunately, he also no longer recognizes friend from foe, so it might be unwise to step into his line of sight...

Male Human

Read updates to the rules and added the changes to the rules compendium. The new rules don't change anything for Njord, however. Njord has 12 wounds divided by 3 giving him 4 Health. He took 2 wounds so now has 2 health remaining after his first tangle with the Kurgen.

I'd update Njord's action, but I think at the moment he's 'frozen' awaiting the attacks of the two Kurgen mutants. After I see the results of their rolls, I'll respond and the battle will continue!

Male Human

And on that note this IS officially my last post of the night. If the story is served by moving my combat to NPC status, please do so. I think you get a general idea of how my fight is going by the rolls. Otherwise, I will update in T minus 8 hours!

Male Human

Ok, edited! Phew, thanks for that. Was looking pretty grim for Njord.

A red haze of fury begins to rise within Njord, the fury of Fenrir, the primal God of the Norse:

1d100 ⇒ 25 vs 32 (WILL POWER): SUCCESS!

Shaking his head from side to side, Njord maintains his composure. Now is not the time to give into the call of the wolf! The last time that happened...

Njord shakes off the terrible memory and presses his attack!

5d100 ⇒ (36, 11, 98, 24, 28) = 197 vs 45 (WS): 4 HITS!

Njord focuses his attention to the larger of the two Kurgen in the hopes that disabling the fiend will instill fear into his smaller counterpart.

Male Human

Oh boy, this isn't looking good for Njord! Ulric, aid me!

Claws, teeth, death. Njord knows only those three things as he lays about frantically, trying to stave off his doom!

Since I have armor in "some" locations, I'll make a fortune roll to see if it will add +1 defense in this situation or not:

1d100 ⇒ 26 vs 30 (FATE POINTS 3 x 10): SUCCESS! This will add +1 to my defense dice roll for the duration of this fight. Thank ye Gods!

Now rolling Njord's defense:

5d100 ⇒ (4, 86, 3, 15, 76) = 184 vs 40 (TOUGHNESS): 3 SUCCESSES! This will negate the strikes of the first Kurgen. As the second mutant closes in, Njord shifts his stance to defend:

Njord is a valiant and savage fighter. Standing his ground he meets the first Kurgan head on, the Northman's slashing blade against tooth and nail. Locked in a bloody struggle, Njord is just fast enough to disengage...

Quote:
The other Kurgen lands on Njord, frantically smashing its HUGE fists into his face.

5d100 ⇒ (8, 36, 68, 27, 83) = 222 vs 40 (TOUGHNESS): 3 SUCCESSES! This is a much better scenario than the last one! Njord has lost 2 health and has 2 remaining.

Njord deflects most of the strikes, but sharp claws tear into his chest leaving brutal red ribbons across the Highlanders rippling chest!

Male Human

Looks like things are really hopping now! Ok, a couple quick things. Njord has the ability to work himself into a Frenzy, but being that he is relatively intelligent for his people, I'd like to say that this can only become possible once he's wounded. He'll make a Will Power check, and if he fails he'll enter Frenzy. At that time all attacks are ALL OUT ATTACKS and he cannot dodge or parry. I'd like to represent that by adding +1 to my attack roll, but reduce his defense by -1. That being said, onwards!

Battle! At long last Njord has the chance to exact his bloody revenge on the hated enemy of his people. There is little fear in the eyes of the Northman as he stands like a stone against the rising flood of mutated Kurgen fiends, howling in rage and defiance.

"Dýrð ok' Dauði!" Njord shouts (Blood and Death), his battle cry echoes across the foothills around you.

With a savage swing and a terrible riposte, Njord slams hard into two of the approaching abominations, laying about with crushing force!

5d100 ⇒ (59, 21, 76, 89, 59) = 304 vs 45 (WS): 1 SUCCESS! *gasp* This does not bode well for our champion from the north...

Overwhelmed by the sheer ferocity of multiple attackers, Njord stammers and loses footing. His swings are futile and cumbersome, the two Kurgen beasts circle and swipe, staying far out of reach of the Norseman's grim red blade.

Off to bed for my pre-work nap! I will update in a few hours with a response to the incoming attack.

Male Human

But I wasn't on the path! If you recall I failed my movement roll and was no where near where I wanted to be. Still, I bow to your wisdom. Perhaps Njord made it further than he thought.

As Njord reaches the crest of the hill, the horseman barrels into view with a howl of fear!

1d100 ⇒ 30 vs 31 (AGIL): SUCCESS! And barely too!

The Norseman's cat like reflexes spare his life. He leaps aside JUST IN TIME, rolling to his feet like a panther, his mighty blade ready for any oncoming threat!

Male Human

As my description unfolded it would seem like Njord would not be near the wagon at this time and thus immune to the agility check. If you recall, Njord had been away from the party and trying to work himself towards the oncoming threat. I'll follow this line of logic, but I can backtrack if needed.

All hell breaks loose. It happens fast. In a moment Njord can see the rider, all wild eyes and gray cloak flapping in the wind. Behind him, something inhuman. No, not thing. THINGS!

The horseman, a Gray Wolf by the looks of it, barrels past Njord and slams hard into the wagon. Limbs, bodies, animals and supplies fly everywhere. There's nothing for it.

Spinning on his heel, Njord brandishes his red iron blade, howling with nordic rage as he prepares to meet the horrific shapes baring down on him!

Male Human

As the sound becomes more evident and Njord hears the approaching army of Kurgen he had been hoping for was in fact one rider, he makes a sprint towards the small hill in the hopes of intercepting the lone horseman.

I'm going to make a movement check for Njord to see if he has the chance to reach his chosen position in time...

1d100 ⇒ 59 vs 40 (Move x 10): FAILED!

The deep snows are a hindrance, slowing the otherwise panther like charge of the Norseman.

Male Human

That last update of yours Pinvendor is awesome! Straight out of a book. I enjoyed it :)

Albrecht, as far as Kurgen and horses? I hadn't heard that they didn't use them. I know they are a nomadic people. Hrm, either way I suppose it's all the speculation of scholars and generals at this point. We'll see what kind of trickery they have planned when Dagon unveils them!

Male Human

Njord hears the red haired minstrel shouting, "Captain! It sounds like a rider approaches!"

In one single fluid motion, Njord draws Sverð Sigr, the Sword of Victory, from it's sheath. Swinging the sharp rust red steel around to bare, Njord shifts the weight of his stance, bounding down a snowy slope towards Caspar.

"Kurgen!?" Njord shouts, an anxious childlike look in his eyes.

Njord is going to make a perception check against his vision, but as before he does not have the skill (poor unaware Norseman that he is). May the Gods bless my dice roll...

1d100 ⇒ 43 vs 17 (INT/2): FAILED!

Seeing nothing, Njord lowers himself to the earth in an attempt to hear the movements of the enemy.

Same roll, but this time a perception check against hearing.

1d100 ⇒ 48 vs 17 (INT/2): FAILED!

Alas, poor Njord is both blind and deaf it seems! Or rather, just totally unaware of whatever it is Caspar and the Halfling appear to see or hear.

Male Human

I didn't want to hog the challenges, but since no one else has opted to take on the description of the Kurgen's passing, I'll work on that now.

Male Human

I like the idea of Mudknuckles as a forward scout. Gives him purpose. Though it looks like your rolls didn't turn out very well! Alas, tis the true spirit of Warhammer!

Male Human

Njord walks at the head of the caravan, his high wool boots kicking up storms of snow as he trudges into the cold unknown. Scantily dressed, you take note that the bitter cold seems to have almost no effect on the barbaric Norseman as he trudges forward, humming a battle hymn to himself.

From time to time Njord will stop and drop to one knee, pressing his ear to the snow packed earth. Grunting, he stands and presses on, his eyes ever watchful to the horizon as he looks for any sign of the hated Kurgen.

Male Human

I will undertake the challenge of describing Wolfenburg. Working on that now. Will post soon!
