That is totally fair too. I know I'm making a new character for these. I love the interactive nature that Starfinder is taking with Org Play!!

The DCs are set. In the CRB. The Task Level for Earn an Income is PC Level - 2 (min 0). The DC for that is the level-based DC for the task, which you just calculated (PC Level - 2). The item level is the level you use for reference for the DC in Crafting. Since that's getting lost on people, I would recommend reiterating those rules in the relevant sections.

That. When I GM'd 1-01 on Saturday we got through this without issue because I had printed out a cheat sheet for myself, but I feel like it's a relevant item to have in the Guild Guide specifically called out. :)

The voice is cheerful and bright, in stark contrast to the utilitarian cut of the mans simple black and brown clothing and the dull unadorned mask that covers everything except the area around his mouth leaving only a wisp of a brown beard revealed.

Feedback: I really like the web-based/wiki-formatted approach to the Guild Guide, but I would like to see some potential changes to the headers for purposes of navigation?

Right now the header looks like this:

Quote:

C F G L O P Q T V W

Pa Pl

None of those selections are intuitive and it means I have to consistently hit back etc just to move to a new section. A benefit of the web-based approach is eliminating the linear movement requirement :)

Also, I would enjoy seeing a downtime standard set too.

I just made a fun Cleric character last night and realized that while I was in a good place to be a primary caster and secondary striker if needed that my AC itself was straight garbage due to no focus on DEX *and* not having Armor Prof. I think I might spend my general feats on Armor Proficiency as I level :P

Umm, the bit about the Twin trait is true, but the damage dice isn't. According to the core rulebook they do 1d6, same as a shortsword. Archive of Nethys says 1d8, but that seems to be an error.

Well good, this is what I get for making a comment at work and pulling AoN as my reference :P

I think it's worth pointing out too that some of the "rare" options are actually mechanically different or in some cases "better".

Sawtooth sabres are a very restricted item, but they're also the highest damage dice on a 1-handed agile weapon too *and* the only weapon with the Twin trait. If access was not restricted, they would likely end up being the only choice for TWF characters.

Rogues don't really benefit from TWF tbh, though they can multi-class into Fighter or Ranger to get some additional support for the playstyle.

2E Question.

The feat Bonded Animal is PFS legal, but does it work in PFS?

Quote:
You forge strong connections with animals. You can spend 7 days of downtime trying to bond with a normal animal (not a companion or other special animal). After this duration, attempt a DC 20 Nature check. If successful, you bond with the animal. The animal is permanently helpful to you, unless you do something egregious to break your bond. A helpful animal is easier to direct, as described under Command an Animal on page 249.

So a few things.

  • One:"Animal" is not defined well in CRB, there is a 3 animal list of Dog/Horse/Pony, are they the only legal options?
  • Two: If I encounter an animal in a scenario can I render it unconscious and try Bonded Animal with my downtimes?
  • Three: If I cannot utilize an animal that I "capture" during the course of a scenario, what does the Bonded Animal feat only work with a Guard Dog, Riding dog, Riding horse, Warhorse, Pack animal, Riding Pony or War Pony?

Actually, it gives you an error if you don't pick a faction, but the character does actually get created. You can't modify it without picking a faction though. Presumably this will get cleared up shortly.

No, the funny part was the OOC element of resigning ourselves to getting a fail for story but that it still met the scenario requirements :P

Also, yes I know it was a "bad" thing, but it felt right for the character progression too :)

My party led a successful raid into Galt being semi-led by my Knight-Captain Barbarian. We needed to break a few bad people out of their prisons and then exfiltrate with them in tow.

Floating down the river we made note of when we successfully had left the borders of Galt and then I conducted a summary trial and execution for some portion of the people we had just "rescued".

OOC the party knew before play this was potentially going to happen and they were down with me taking action for the IC story arch. What we also didn't know is that the "win" condition was specifically making sure they didn't die *in* Galt. So, you know, mission accomplished all around :P

I don't have my book until GenCon pickup, but during the playtest Ranger really jumped out to me as one of the better martial options if you're wanting to multi-class. Either using Ranger as the base platform and MCing elsewhere for pickups or MCing *into* Ranger.

Sounds to me like they're Chelaxian citizens who are now working against Thrune from within the country taking after the lessons of the Silver Ravens. :)

Well that's a nothing-burger of a description.

Also, the SRs per this blog post have retreated behind their borders and are not attempting to export the revolution. So that's the Adventurer's Guide retconned too.

It says the SR's aren't actively doing so, but the Firebrand writeup to me sounds like an organization that learned from the actions of the Glorious Reclamation and the Silver Ravens and are using guerrilla tactics within the borders while supported by other groups and nation-states.

I wasn't sure if this would be better off in the Playtest forums or on the live Org Play forums, but do we have any ETA on when we should expect the Guild Guide to drop for 2E?

I know from some interviews it had been touched on as "before GenCon" but hadn't heard anything outside of that and wanted to make sure I hadn't missed it :)

I love how much hatred the concept of 4e has. 4e wasn't a terrible game, it just wasn't a good D&D successor to 3.5. Had they called it D&D Miniature Battles or something along those lines it would have sold like hotcakes and been super successful. It was a great board game type game.

I agree with you. I think that 4th Ed was honestly a product of its time and they were aiming to make an MMO without the O part being required for game play. Your abilities were well defined and had little variation outside of if they hit and/or potentially crit for extra effect. The role you wanted to fulfill was defined as well and while you could be a Tank and do some Damage, your toolkit would primarily be abilities that let you fulfill the role of "Tank".

The downside of 4th Ed was that following the freeform nature of 3.x with something that had such defined structure caused a bunch of pushback. Personally I had issue with it because the "board game" execution eliminated a lot of RP form local play which irritated me too.
