Hi,

I would like to cancel my adventure path subscription.

Expecting our first born at the end of the July, so adventure money has disappeared :)

Aria Park

Feel free to introduce yourselves a bit more.

Something for you all to consider before we start the campaign proper:

- Is your character a native of Kintargo? If not, how did they come to be here?
- Does your character know any of the other player characters? If so, how?
- How would you describe your character?
- How would your character describe themselves? (Remember these two things can be very different).

Stop that Suttor. You can't mention your metalcore band and then not also provide links to that!

Aria Park

Even with the cobblestones of Argent Avenue and the foliage of Aria Park still wet from the morning’s light rain, dozens of Kintargans have gathered along the facade of the opera house to protest the city’s new lord-mayor, Paracount Barzillai Thrune. The city’s new leader was appointed by Her Infernal Majestrix, Queen Abrogail II, in the wake of the previous lord-mayor’s sudden flight from the city— an event that still has local rumormongers whispering furiously. In a scant seven days, Paracount Thrune has instituted martial law, a curfew, and seven outlandish and polarizing proclamations. These actions and more have called many of Kintargo’s dissatisfied citizens here on this overcast morn. There’s been no sign yet of Barzillai Thrune himself, and the opera house’s doors remain tightly closed—as they have since the man chose the landmark as his new home—but judging by the growing sound of the protesters, he surely can’t ignore the scene on the streets below much longer.

Although it is still early, each of you know that you are in for a long day. And yet, there is already so much to do!

ROLL FOR INITIATIVE!

Each of you will be able to undertake a number of actions (listed below). Each action/turn takes ~1hr, and we'll proceed through them in initiative order. The map available above shows the state of Aria park at any one time. You are free to place our characters anywhere to start with, and to move them freely during your turn. Red zones show where there is a particularly dense crowd that may hinder your movement.

Options:

Listen For Rumours: Diplomacy or Perception check to learn more about Kintargo’s Political Landscape.
Pilfer: Sleight of hand check to make the most of the crowds distractions.
Rabble Rouse: Diplomacy or Perform to better organize the protest.
Search for Contact: Perception check to try and spot amongst the crowd your contact.
Silence Undesirable Elements: Bluff or Intimidate check to try and silence or outshout members of the crowd you disagree with.
Watch the Crowd: Perception or Sense Motive check to observe the situation and the crowd.

Init(GM): 1d20 ⇒ 3

Hi forum-goers!

With so many new people joining the forums due to the humble bundle, I will be running a game of Hell's Rebels for new people who have recently purchased the humble bundle and are maybe new to Pathfinder or to tabletop roleplaying altogether.

This play-by-post is open to anyone who has recently purchased the humble bundle and is either:
- New to the pathfinder system; or
- New to TTRPG gaming altogether

As the first three chapters of Hell's Rebels is attached to the Bundle, I'm hoping that the players will get a chance to play the campaign by play-by-post and then take it away and GM it in person with your friends/family having already experienced it and having a feel for it. Given this, I do request that if you make it into this Play-By-Post that you avoid reading ahead until after we've finished up the campaign.

Understanding how delayed downloading on the website is at the moment, I will keep the application process for this game open for quote some time, to give everyone a chance to get books and start having a read through. In addition, I'm happy for people to discuss character creation in this thread so that new players can get their heads around how it works :)

Some quick notes:

Available Resources:

For creating your character, the only resources you are allowed to use are those that are available in the bundle:

- Core Rule Book
- Advanced Class Guide
- Advanced Players Guide
- Inner Sea World Guide
- Strategy Guide
- Ultimate Magic
- Ultimate Campaign
- Ultimate Combat

In addition, you should get a copy of the Hell's Rebels Player's Guide, which is available free from this website.

Character Creation:

We will be using the "20 Point Buy" to generate your character stats, as this is the standard format for playing Pathfinder Society (PFS) games. This way, if you wish to play PFS in the future you will be well equipped.

Your character needs two traits, one of which must be from the Player's Guide.

Starting gold is 150GP for each player's character.

Your character starts at level 1.

Backstory:

Given that people may be new to the world of Golarian (the setting for pathfinder) and in particular Cheliax (the particular nation that this Adventure Path is set in), I will be endeavouring to provide links and suggestions for forming your characters backstory. The Hell's Rebels Player Guide really is an excellent starting point for understanding the campaign, but if you have any other questions feel free to ask away.

Welcome again to Paizo, and good luck with Pathfinder!

Howdy forum goers. As per THIS THREAD, I'm opening up recruitment for Hell's Rebels.

The first two slots are reserved for Co-GMs who are playing:
- an Aasimar investigator
- an Human Warpriest of Milani

I'm looking for 3-4 more individuals based on the following:

Character Creation:

- All Paizo classes allowed, no third-party, no 3.5
- Core races. Additionally, tengu, tiefling, aasimar and ratfolk.
- 25 point buy
- Maximum average starting gold for class
- Max hitpoints at 1st, then half+1 every level after.
- Two traits, one must be a campaign trait. I'll allow a third trait in conjunction with a drawback, but the drawback must tie into your backstory sufficiently.

Backstory:
Please provide a brief backstory for the character, as well as why they are at the protest in Kintargo.
Additionally, I'd like a short answer to the following questions:
- What is your character's short-term goal?
- What is your character's long-term goal?
- How would you describe your character in a nutshell?
- How would your character describe themselves (in their own words)?

General Consideration:
I tend to prefer games with robust, fun characters roleplaying and interacting with each other. As such, I'll pretty much always take a character that is going to provide better interaction with the party than a character that is finely tuned or interesting in a void.

Hi Paizo team.

I mistakenly forgot that I wouldn't be able to later amend my recruitment thread name.

Is it possible to change thread name: http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2temo?DM-NOTYs-Hell-Rebels
So that closed recruitment now says open recruitment?

If this isn't possible I'll just make a second thread, it just seems a waste to have two.
Many thanks.

The first two slots are reserved for Redelia and Shadowlord, and once they have locked in their characters, I'll open up recruitment for the remaining 3 positions.

Hey Paizo team,

I've recently resubscribed for the Adventure Path Subscription. I know that the orders have started shipping for Hell's Vengeance 1, but I haven't received an authorization email or any shipping stuff yet. Order for the resub was Order 3828569

I just wanted to check whether there is a delay given that I have recently re-subscribed, and if possible find out what time frame I have before I'll received the shipping email and PDF copy.

Many thanks team! :D

Hey guys!

I'm starting a Iron Gods game with some long time friends in a few weeks, and they've just started submitting their characters to me. One player is playing a summoner and has taken the Skygazer adventure trait. He's playing the character as a former varisian merchant who started hearing and dreaming voices, one of which was his eidolon. He suggested that sometimes the voices talk over each other, sometimes in unison and sometimes not at all. Eventually his eidolon made itself particularly known to him and led him to Torch, and he arrived in the town on the day that the flame went out.

I've been power reading through the whole adventure path to have a better understanding of what is coming, I've had a bit of an out there idea:

Contains Plot Details:

His character is actually the result of the one time that the Dominion Of The Black agents managed to reverse engineer Casandalee's AI core, leading to a biologically imprinted version of one of her past 112 lives ("Valley Of The Brain Collectors", p 8). His Eidolon is actually a Dominion entity that's only command/requirement/programming/whatever is to protect this first experiment (even against other dominion entities). The voices that he is hearing in his head, and that lead him to torch are memory fragments of Hellion, Casandalee and Unity. This is not nearly as pronounced as the description of Casandalee (page 57), but can be used as an additional way of threading info into the story.

Basically, this lets me have the moment of crisis in the story where the character is simultaneously part robot AI, and part organic entity created by the Dominion. If the story develops and I want to abort the idea (because of natural character development), I'll just say that for whatever reason the character was just receiving left over signal broadcasts of the three Iron Gods as the voices.

So, given all that, I wanted to sneak a few aberrations into the characters summon monster lists. Nothing overly powerful, just something thematic that he gets without really knowing why until halfway through the campaign. Given this, what are your thoughts on:

(A) the backstory links; and
(B) potential monsters that are flavourful but not broken to add to his spell. Doesn't need to be every level, for example I have the akata at SM II, but nothing for SM I.
(C) are there any potential problems from this that I'm missing?

Many thanks

Hi Paizo team.

My wife has recently lost her job and money is too tight for gaming in the short-term future. Please cancel my subscription, and if possible, the long-pending order for the Advanced Class Guide.

Many thanks!

Howdy Paizo team,

Quite a while ago I submitted an pre-order for The Emerald Spire. It's still hanging on pending and I was just wondering when this order (as well as the map pack) where likely to ship?

Thanks very much :)

Hi guys,

I'm a new-ish GM: I've run several pathfinder society scenarios, but never an ongoing campaign. I've recently gotten a group of players together who are going to play either Mummy's Mask or Rise of the Runelords, but first we're playing the Beginner's box to get people introduced to the rules and especially the idea of simple roleplaying. This game is happening in 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, for our first night it looks like we'll have 7-8 players turning up, nearly double the number of players provided for in the Blackfang adventure.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to scale the whole encounter up to make it suitably challenging for a group of 8 people. It doesn't need to be anything crazy as it's a once off evening (my normal group is 5 players), I just want to make sure it feels sufficiently epic/challenging for the party.

As it stands, the roster would be:

Rogue (Beginner Box)
Fighter (Beginner Box)
Cleric (Beginner Box)
Wizard (Beginner Box)
Barbarian (Beginner Box)
Bard (Iconic)
Alchemist
Inquisitor

I'm currently GM the very beginning of The Wormwood Mutiny, and I have a particular player who is insisting on trying to mutiny, to sway the crew through overt threats, to assault Scourge.... and Harrigan literally just finished his welcome speech.

Right before his last outburst, he was directly threatened with having his ears chopped off for not listening. I know this isn't a standard punishment in S&S, but the threat of whipping hadn't done much to dissuade him. I don't feel like keelhauling him this early in the game, so I plan to follow through with the threat of ear evisceration.

My question to you, forums, is as follows:

(1) What penalties should be applied to someone who has had their ears cut off? I'd go with full deafness (-4 init, can't do perception involving sound, -4 on opposed perception and 20% spell failure on verbal), but I'm not sure if that would be the effects of having your ears removed.

(2) What would be the heal requirements on that? I'm assuming cure light wounds wouldn't be quite enough to regrow ears? He's a level 1 cleric though, so I'm sure he'll try.

Female Anthropomorphic Representation of A Divine Influence Oracle 20

A rhythmic pulsing behind your temples drags you from sleep. In the dark twilight between wake and sleep, flashes of the previous evening flitter before you. You hear echoes of the laughter of a wild night, feel the heady joy of excess. The scents of rich stewed meats and perfume lingers in your nostrils.

Too quickly however, reality invades. The ground presses hard beneath you, and the slightest movement reveals aches and bruises you were unaware of. Your are bombarded by a damp, rank smell that could wake the dead (and just as likely kill them again). If this weren't enough to bring bile to the mouth, your tongue is saturated in the sickly sweet after-taste of cheap wine. The pulsing in your head has settled to a dull throb.

As you regain your senses, you realize that your wrists are very loosely bound behind you. As you attempt to wriggle free (DC10 Escape Artist Check) you notice you are not alone in the room. Around you are four other people in a similar shabby state.

Feel free to say hi.

You notice the floor below you seems to be canting and swaying slightly from side to side

Female Anthropomorphic Representation of A Divine Influence Oracle 20

This thread is for the discussion of my Skull and Shackles game.

Some rules for operating
- I'll be checking the board at least once in the morning and once in the evening, and as such would appreciate one post-per-day as a minimum. That being said, I understand that life gets busy (mine has been that way lately). If you have to be away for a while, we have 3 options:
1) I can GMPC your character
2) We can find a way to determine your characters' rough actions in advance
3) We delay the game until you are able to get back again.
- I'd prefer if the maximum amount of OOC chat is conducted in here, to keep the game flowing.
- I'd appreciate formatting as follows: describing actions (especially in combat), dialogue, internal dialogue
- I'll be keeping track of XP, but leveling up should occur for the whole party at once to make sure you're all on the same page.
- To steal Leinathan's description:

Leinathan wrote:
I will run combat as the following: When combat is declared, I'll have everyone roll initiative and post their first action. When all of the actions are completed, (and I've also rolled initiative) I'll post stating what happened that round, and then declare round two. Rinse and repeat.

WELCOMES

With all that being said, I'm hoping you'll all have fun and you'll be patient with me as I get used to GMing. To get the discussion rolling in here, I'd love to know a few things from you all:

(1) How many PbP games are you involved with at the moment?
(2) What past experience do you have with Skull + Shackles (Playing or Running)?
(3) What are the two items you wanted on your character?

So, I've been playing Pathfinder for a few months now and have really loved the PbP method of playing online a lot. My local group doesn't have the chance to get together more than once every month (if we're lucky). Given that it'll be a long while before I can really hone my GM skills in real life, I want to have a go at running an Adventure Path here on the forums. Expressions of interest are appreciated, as is any advice in regards to GMing.

At present, I'm looking to run one of the following APs:
-Second Darkness
-Carrion Crown
-Skull & Shackles

I'll decided based on what seems popular, although I'm entirely open to changing to something different if there is demand for it.

EDIT: S+S it is then.

The Exchange

Hey guys! I'm an Australian who's fairly new to PF and have been struggling to get my local group together more than once a month. For this reason, I'd love to get involved in a game that's already happening, or to start up another game.

I've only played PF 3 times so far, so I'd say I'm precluded from GMing. Is there anyone interested in running something?

Alternatively, I'd love to join a group that is willing to put up with posts from the future.

Liberty's Edge

So, I played my first game of Pathfinder on Sunday and also my first Tabletop RPG game since I was roughly 14 (at least 8 years ago). I had an absolute tonne of fun, and thought it might be fun to share a few stories seeing as we had a crazy time with it. The adventure we did was "The Goblinblood Dead", DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS!!!!!

Dramatic Personae
Kansen: lvl 1 Tengu Rogue (me): As I have another character I'm planning to use for my actual gaming group, I rolled up a socially awkward Tengu who struggled with taking up thievery after falling away from the honourable path of the swordfighter.
Rapanui: lvl 1 Human Barbarian (Durant): Also a first time player, Durant rolled up a Barbarian with a particular affinity for Wolves and Native American culture. More on this later.
Brandyl: lvl 1 Tiefling Paladin (Aaron): The star of every story, Brandyl had 5 Intelligence, and Charisma through the roof. Aaron basically played this character like a very big, naive and charming kid.

We also had a DM'd Cleric who didn't contribute apart from combat.

STORY #1: The worg

Spoiler:
At one point, we entered a graveyard and stumbled upon a half starved worg (giant wolf). Having mentioned Rapanui's obsession with wolves, he straight away offers him food... and rolls a 1 on his diplomacy check. The worg is interested in the food but does not trust Rapanui one bit.
I decided to risk offering it food as well.... and roll a natural 2, which gets reduced by my low Charisma. The Worg is getting somewhat offended at the charity at this point.

For the sake of it, Brandyl rolls on the diplomacy as well: 19, 28 after modifiers! He accompanies this with the childlike phrase of "Have some food! You can be family". Not only did the worg fall for the massive roll, but having recently lost it's pack, it is instantly SMITTEN with Brandyl. At a later point, Brandyl rolled again to convince the worg to accompany our Caravan, and rolling a 20, the DM felt compelled to ignore the source material because this Worg couldn't avoid Brandyl's natural charm.

Story #2: The issue with masks

Spoiler:
For context, my Tengu wears a crafted leather Plaguedoctor's mask to hide his race and blend in better.

As we entered the final dungeon, we roll for perception and realize there are skeletons waiting for us. They fail to notice us. I decided to roll for stealth to sneak past... natural 1 (9 after mods). The skeletons notice and move forward to initiate combat. As I had failed to set up some traps earlier, my DM makes a comment that my mask got in the way and caused me to stumble.
As I was at the front of the party, when the skeletons move forward, they prevent us from leaving the stairwell, so I'm at the front and blocking all our tanky guys from getting into combat. Luckily, I roll first for initiative, and decide to take 1 attack and then use acrobatics to flip past the skeletons to give room for the others to move in. Despite my +8 modifier to acrobatics I roll another natural 1, causing me to tumble into the undead, knocking all three of us to the floor. More mask comments abound.

I should point out that my terrible dice-rolling happened all day. I'm pretty sure I had more 1s than I did rolls that were >10. On the other hand, Brandyl had phenomenal rolls, and so the joy of the adventure was seeing this child-like Tiefling destroy both combat and social encounters, whilst the hardened Rogue + Barbarian floundered at both.

Do you guys have any similarly fun stories?
