Miladistra gets enough of her bearings to pass the vents.

"Yes Hyp. You've been a great help. Hopefully we can talk to- aaauggh!"

Deroff howls in pain as Miladistra has to cover her ears. "Hyp! No!"

Nature: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19

Unfortunately she's too distracted to deal with the vents.

"Hmmm? Oh, yes. Go ahead." Miladistra is busy trading mushroom cooking tips with Vilmur when the mission butts in. That and Deroff has been nudging to get her attention.

She sighs and goes to check the table. "Hmpf. Just be lucky we need to focus on Timonithaea. We need to stop these attacks."

"Have you ever tried rhubarb mushroom soup, Vilmur? It's so zesty. It's Deroff's favorite." Miladistra loses track of the mushroom mission.

Deroff whines as he thinks about another attempt to slip that non-meat item inside his food.

"Timonithaea... I see." Miladistra still doesn't trust this woman, but she isn't being violent. And there is a matter of a mountain spring.

"I wouldn't turn to raiding as my immediate response. But now that we know what angered her so much- wait, did you say Enoménos crown?"

“I was well-regarded,” Latanoris cuts in with a tight, sharp voice. “Much of my cargo now lies at the bottom of the sea. These attacks have nearly ruined my business, and more than that, sailors lost their lives. And the culprits? No one knows exactly who they are. Survivors report creatures—beautiful creatures—wielding weapons made of water, boarding the ships as the masts snap and hulls crack, sinking them in mere minutes. A few survivors even speak of a boy pulling them to safety before disappearing back into the sea.” Latanoris’ voice rises in obvious frustration, “I’ve lost four ships, cargo worth thousands in gold, including the Enoménos crowns, and these old fishers’ tales are all the information we have.”

"That crown is very valuable. If you can help us reclaim it, we will return it to the settlers and petition them to speak to Timonithaea. Otherwise much larger hunting parties will appear and we'll lose more naiads."

Miladistra sighs and puts on her best face.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30

"If you could please explain yourself. We want to understand more about what is going on in these seas, and what is happening to the naiads. Or why you need to give everyone necklaces."

"Hmpf. What a shame." Miladistra drips with contempt.

She eyes the necklaces. "You've been using them to spy on everyone. And the naiads? Did you promise them something impossible? Or are they under your control, too? Saloratha, you can't raid these ships and eat the sailors anymore. The seas are for everyone, not just you."

"Did we interrupt your supper?" Miladistra cannot hide her disgust, or the claw that was moments away from digging into her. She's glad Deroff warned her. "Seems like you enjoy everything but the bones..."

Miladistra looks at the belongings. "We'll return all of this to the families of the fallen, yeah?" She nods to her teammates.

Deroff is doing his best to swim along with the team. As they enter the third tower he takes a deep sniff. A low growl emerges from him and Miladistra takes note.

"Boy, what's wrong?" She looks to her teammates. "I don't think we're alone." She switches her exploration to Search, trying to listen for any incoming danger.

Miladistra takes her time to Investigate, using her Nature (Master +16) to look for anything unusual.

And she knows Deroff is struggling to keep up. Poor boy. She'll have to clean him after this.

I voted for maximum chaos on the chase but I was denied.

"It takes a minute or two to get used to the water." Miladistra swims up as her elven features reassert themselves.

Laohu points out some of the lost cargo and Miladistra nods. "Interesting, huh? Might save me a few times from getting clobbered."

"Sounds like this Saloratha is hungry. I outta give her a knuckle sandwich." Miladistra balls up a fist, obviously lacking any martial training. "But maybe I'll throw lightning instead. Gotta save these naiads before more of them are ensorcelled."

Don't mind me, GM is making a downtime here.

Critical Success for 12 gp.

Miladistra ◆Swims to reach Laohu, swimming right next to the Orca but away from the Red naiad's reach, just in case they react to her movemtn.

She reaches out to touch Laohu. "You're doing great hon. Something's controlling this poor whale, I'm gonna give that Hag a solid kick when this is over."

Her ◆Healing Beacon radiates and mend some of his wounds for Healing: 4d8 ⇒ (7, 4, 4, 3) = 18.

"Deroff please." She ◆calls out to Deroff.

Jaws: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
Damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 8) + 3 = 14

Jaws: 1d20 + 13 - 5 ⇒ (1) + 13 - 5 = 9
Deroff thinks all of this water and whale meat and salt tastes weird.

Miladistra sees the White naiad dissolve into the sea and frowns.

First of all, she reaches out to touch Laohu. "Don't worry about the injuries, just help take down the whale."

Well, he bit the whale once, probably. Then she ◆swims to a closer position, to get an angle on everything.

Miladistra sees it: The perfect line. But they are so evasive, she'd never nail them with a Lightning Bolt.

"I tried to get ya'll to calm down before, but..."

She ◆Swims into position as her blood flares up. The naiads are blasted with a vision of an eternally peaceful sea. A dryad made of seaweed smiles as their vision is filled with algae.

She ◆casts >Blinding Beauty< to slow them down. Will Save, DC 25. I should be able to catch Red, Yellow and White within a 30 foot cone.

"Deroff! Go help Dorance. I'll be fine!" Miladistra ◆Directs Deroff.

Deroff begins to ◆◆swim...

I assume both checks succeeded so he can swim 15 feet to the left. I don't know the swim DC.

Right, it's Incapacitation. Whoops. Rank 2. Not going to do much at this point.

Prep Round 2: No one wants >Oaken Resilience<, so she casts it on herself.

Miladistra opens up by ◆Striding and forming a region of ◆◆>Calm< around the Orca and two of the Naiad raiders. "Now relax, fellahs. Usually blood is spilled before I can act. But this time..." Will Save DC 25 to resist.

◆ As an Independent Wolf, Deroff swims after Miladistra. Why does the missus throw herself into danger like that?

"If I can get them to relax maybe we can get some more answers!" She barks back to Deroff as he whines.

Miladistra will put on the Sharkskin Robe.

She uses a scroll of Water Breathing on Deroff. "I know boy, breathin' water is going to feel odd. Just try to follow me, alright?" She casts >Speak with Animals< to confirm he is listening to her. "Yes, I'll give you a treat afterward."

"It's beautiful..." Miladistra mumbles as they go beneath. "Some of my friends try to explain the world beneath the waves but...you have to see it yourself." She toggles the Light spell in her wayfinder.

The team arrives and Hyp gives a warning. She nods.

"I can try to Calm 'em down. Maybe."

The first thing she does is cast >Fey Form< to take the guise of a Naiad.

She looks at a reflection of herself in a piece of shattered glass and grins. Not often she taps into her vanity (thanks Mother) but she strokes her hair and smiles. "Alright. Does anyone want >Oaken Resilience<? If not, I'll cast it on myself."

Round 2: Casting Oaken Resilience on someone. Me by default.

"Do you think we need to swim? I did bring a few scrolls of Water Walk and Water Breathing just in case."

"That will do nicely, Hyp. Thank ya kindly. Like you said, we need to broker this deal or we'll have to do a lot of swimmin' to get home."

"Well, I can't steal the rivers or streams, either. It's for sharin', not keepin'." Miladistra thinks. "Hyp, maybe we can come to some kind of arrangement here. The people of Hoimpeia rely on these seas for their livelyhood. Is there someone we can talk to to get the Naiads to stop attacking? They called us invaders."

"How would I steal the ocean? No one can own it. It's meant to be shared." Miladistra huffs. "Looks like someone has been watchin' over you, then. Can you help us get to the bottom of this, then? We can help keep the seas open to everyone, and you can get this voice out of your head."

"I doubt you're from the First World, feller." Miladistra shrugs. "Yesterday we were attacked by living water. DO you know what's going on there? Why is every ship in this bay under attack?"

She calms down. "We really do want to help allay your fears."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17 Miladistra's still a bit on edge.

Deroff howls as something yanks on Miladistra's mess of hair. "What the? Feels more like this haunted. I'm no good with this occult business."

Still, it might be primal in nature. She decides to Investigate.

Exploration: Investigate via Nature (Master) +16

Miladistra pauses as her mind catches up. "Wait, there's a siren in the cargo hold?" She frowns. "I hope ya'll didn't try to ship one in a crate." While most sirens are quite unpleasant that doesn't justify shipping them like livestock.

"Come on, we have to check out the cargo hold. Lem, get ready to do that thing with the sound if they start trying to sing."

After spending the day directing the crew and patching the ship as best they can, Miladistra is tired and falls asleep on Deroff.

Miladistra wakes up and renews her Vital Beacon. "Sirens, eh? I have a piccolo, but I can't do much about magical song." She smirks at Lem. "Then again, I bet Lem's good at countering it."

Miladistra takes a glance at the armor. "Hmpf, feels like they were summoned, eh boy?"

Nature: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25

"Lem, you alright?" She helps him stand up. "That was a good tune, but don't lose your head next time, alright?"

She looks at Latanoris. "Hmmm...I don't know if I can summon someone to help." She turns to the crew. "Come on! Ya'll can do it!"

Deroff feels the deck shake.

And he don't care.

Miladistra is still prone. "I got 'im."

Heal, Sorcerous Potency: 1d8 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 1 = 12 Lem smells a bunch of Rosemary as he is roused to consciousness.

"Deroff, move a little and finish the Yeller one!" Deroff flanks with Dorance.

Jaws vs Flanked Yellow, Courageous Anthem: 1d20 + 13 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 13 + 1 = 27
Damage: 2d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6, 7) + 3 + 1 = 17

I've wanted to hurl a lightning bolt this entire combat to zap an attacker and that tentacle. But I lost init and kept getting knocked prone.

I may finally be able to line something up... and I roll almost minimum damage. Dice gods be like that.

Miladistra is still prone.

Deroff's Reflex Save: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22 Deroff barely keeps still.

"Deroff! Get 'em!" She directs her animal companion to attack the maurader in Yellow. With his 10 foot reach he can attack without moving.

Damage: 2d8 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (7, 4) + 3 + 2 = 16

Miladistra tries to line up a Lightning Bolt now that both goons are in the way. If only she could shoot the squid. Gah, is Laohu in the way?

GM, I'm trying to line up a Lightning Bolt that will hit only Red and Yellow. If it hits that Squid that's a bonus. If it would hit one of them, or it would Lem or Laohu then I will cast Electric Arc instead. I drew a Purple arrow to represent the line I'm trying to aim at. Both need a DC 25 Reflex Save to reduce damage.

Miladistra is still prone, so the squid doesn't shake her much. Besides, she's much more worried about Deroff.

Deroff barks and keeps balance.

Miladistra unleashes an ◆◆>Electric Arc< on the Red and Yellow attackers, dealing 5d4 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 1, 1) = 11 electricity damage. [ooc]Reflex Save DC 25[/dice]

Then she reaches up and rubs Deroff's fur, healing him for 4d8 ⇒ (7, 2, 4, 4) = 17 as her ◆Vital Beacon weakens.

Deroff is a strong ◇independent animal so he bites the Red attacker.

"Dangit..." Miladistra remains Prone on the ground. "Get over here, Deroff!" She tries to ◆Direct her Animal Companion.

The wolf agrees and ◆runs back to protect Miladistra, licking her face in appreciation. It's also enough to ◆Interact and trigger her >Vital Beacon<, healing him.

"Alright, I'm gonna make you big." She ◆◆casts >Enlarge< and Deroff grows to a Large size. He turns and growls at the watery attacker clad in Red.

Reflex: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15 "Gah!" Miladistra eats dirt again.

Deroff's Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Deroff holds his ground and growls as the water drives through his fur.

Miladistra ◆stands up. "Too many in the way..." She turns to Deroff and ◆Directs him. "Stand up, boy!"

The wolf ◆stands up and ◆bites once at the person with Yellow armor.

"I'm gonna back up..." She ◆Strides backward.

"Cheese and Crackers! What's happening!"

"You okay, boy?" She turns to Deroff.

Deroff's Reflex Save: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19

Both lose their balance and fall.

Miladistra patrols the deck to take in the air. "It's not like a forest, is it boy?" She pets Deroff. "My, you're getting big. Almost big enough to ride. Won't that be nice?" Deroff pants in response. "Time to get ready. Hopefully all of this preparation is useless."

Miladistra uses her wand of >Tailwind< to enhance her own speed, just in case.

Knowing the trip may be dangerous, she casts >Vital Beacon< just in case she needs to quickly heal. She keeps her staff of >Nature's Cunning< on hand, just in case...

Once that's taken care of, she begins investigating the sea for any irregularities. Lots of dead fish? Maybe sea fowl are avoiding a spot.

Investigating with Nature +16.
I have the >Elven Instinct< feat, so if I tie an enemy for initiative I still win.
Also, I'm buying some explorer's clothing so I can put a +1 Armor Rune on it. 160.1 gp spent.

"Hmm, sounds good..." Miladistra makes a note to purchase 2 scrolls of Water Breathing, and a 4th rank scroll of Water Walk, just in case. "Maybe Deroff won't eat all the fish, he's more of a land type."

Deroff whines as she hands him more leafy greens.

I'm subtracting 84 gp for the scrolls.

Don't mind me, just rolling downtime for the GM.

Deroff goes to sniff Latanoris, only for Miladistra to quickly check his collar. "Apologies. Deroff is always curious."

"Weapons made of water and a boy pulling them to safety? Sounds like we're dealin' with natives of the sea. Has anything happened recently to upset them? Maybe a shipping vessel got a bit too close to their home."

I have a different character that would eat this scenario up but she's only level 4, alas.

"But Cap'n's right. We'll do what it takes to stop the raids."

"Oh, howdy Dorrance! Just tell me if Deroff is sniffin' too much. Usually he doesn't like smoke." Miladistra waves hello but lets the dwarf be. She knows the value of solitude.

"Chumwi! Tiger! Good to see ya again. And a please to see you too, Vilmur! That was a quick trip. Glad to get some space, I felt so packed on the ship, like a can of beans." She shudders. "Sometimes I heard too much and needed a break."

Friendly fire is OK, just don't increase my Dying value. I am a squishy sorceress, so take that into account. :)

Miladistra sticks to the nuts, bread and mushrooms. "If ya have anything green I'll eat it. Especially rhubarb. Someone has been skipping on his diet." She looks at the wolf who has been following her since she boarded the Glorious Payoff.

She sighs as the wolf hides under the table, sniffing for scraps. "Howdy ya'll... I'm Miladistra. This is Deroff." She motions under the table as Deroff sniffs looking for something to sate his hunger. "The raids have left their mark. Did ya see the bay? No one's venturin' out there. I bet we'll have ta, though."

I have 2 GM Glyphs, so I can give 2 Hero Points away. I usually give them to the lowest level teammates.

GM, I have the Beastmaster dedication and a wolf animal companion.

I'll take a scroll of Mountain Resilience as my provision by default (unless the mission briefing makes one more obvious.)

I've played 3-04 & 3-07 already, so it won't help Bella.

Back on the boat, Miladistra finally gets to rest her heels. "A long day of runnin' around town. Everything out to kill us. Shrubs almost ran me through. Pure Legionnaire Captain must have drank some of the falling blood, he was really into fighting us. Like, even after we routed them."

"Look, I'm not one for all of this divine stuff. Caused me more trouble than its worth." She pets Deroff. "BUT, it can be used as a guidin' force. I hope these six find the right ways to use 'em."

Deroff flops into Miladistra's lap. "It took me a while to embrace mine."
