![]() Day of the Serpent – our Season Seven Starter - is September 12th, once again at Ettin Games. Last year’s season kick-off was a huge success, and this year’s will no doubt be better. Not only do we have another multi-table special – but this year, we have two. Plus, we’re running the five newest Year of the Serpent scenarios to start the new season off right. We're taking over Ettin Games in Humble for the day, and to make this happen, Ettin's asking for $10 per person, which will immediately go towards your personal store credit. We'd hope our friends will be willing to support the store that'll be hosting us all day... and you're gamers - it’s not like you can walk into a game store and not spend at least $10. Besides, Ettin’s got cool stuff. There’s plenty of food places nearby, and it’s an easy sign up on the Houston PFS warhorn. https://warhorn.net/events/houston-pfs/schedule/2015/09/12 Register now at the Houston PFS Warhorn. Registering early helps you ensure that you get to GM and play what you want, and it also ensures that we get our scenarios and boons from Paizo in time. Here's our schedule: 10:00am – 7 tables of 6–97: Siege of Serpents. This multi-table interactive adventure in which each group’s actions contribute to the entire room’s success is for levels 1-11.
However, an inopportune accident quickly spirals out of control when an old enemy attempts a brazen assault on the Pathfinders’ home, and an unexpected foe emerges from hiding to seek vengeance for the Society’s perceived crimes. Can the Pathfinders pacify the chaos and protect their guests while simultaneously defending the Grand Lodge? 3:00pm – your choice:
Years of political maneuvering, espionage, smuggling, and diplomacy have set the stage for the Aspis Consortium’s most ambitious attack on their Inner Sea rivals: the Pathfinder Society. All that remains are several key preparations that only an elite team of Aspis agents can arrange, and once the fireworks begin, these same agents must strike quickly and mercilessly to secure objectives—some shared and some connected to deeper plots—and escape without the Society being any the wiser. In this adventure the players portray agents of the Aspis Consortium using 7th-level pregenerated characters. The events in this story also connect to and expand upon those in "Siege of Serpents".
7–01: Between the Lines - levels 1–5. Rival explorers have beaten the Pathfinders to a valuable site in Katapesh, but fortunately most of the riches—including the obscure text the Society sought in the first place—have ended up in the capitol’s extensive bazaars. What is at first a routine shopping trip spirals out of control as the PCs uncovers the writing’s secret past—and secret messages. 7–02: Six Seconds to Midnight - levels 3–7. A strange confluence of circumstances leaves the researchers of Uringen understaffed and in need of able-bodied assistants. Conveniently, recent Pathfinder Society experiments call for a rare reagent found only in that area, and the two organizations have negotiated a mutually beneficial deal. Can the PCs reach the secluded settlement in time to witness this extraordinary event—and handle the phenomenon’s aftermath? 7–03: The Bronze House Reprisal - levels 5–9. A recent assault on the Pathfinder Society has renewed hostilities with the Aspis Consortium, and clues left behind point to one of its masterminds: the gold agent Maiveer Sloan. By infiltrating one of the Consortium’s artifact-smuggling operations, the PCs can sabotage their rivals’ criminal operations and send a clear message: No attack will go unanswered. 7-04: Title TBA – levels 7-11. 7-05: Title TBA – levels 1-5. 8:00pm – 7 tables of 7–00: The Sky Key Solution.
At long last, the Pathfinder Society has reassembled the Numerian device known as the Sky Key. Initial tests suggest it is capable of projecting a location’s past into the present, allowing Society agents to peruse books from destroyed libraries and speak with echoes of long-dead heroes. Now that it has perfected the Sky Key’s controls, the Pathfinder Society is prepared to extract a slice of Absalom’s history and bring it into the present; however, there’s no telling what might be waiting inside—or who in the present might wish to wield the same power. -- …and that’s our big day! Sign up now at https://warhorn.net/events/houston-pfs/schedule/2015/09/12 ![]()

![]() AW SNAP, YO! WE'RE BACK! The Pathfinder Society schedule for MAG CON 7 is now finalized! I know, I know, we haven’t even had OwlCon yet. But with the new Pathfinder Society con sanctioning stuff, I need to get my list of GMs in by the end of this month. By all means, yes – go sign up for OwlCon too, if you haven’t yet. If you haven’t yet made a MAG CON, you’ve been missing out on what I feel is the best bang-for-buck gaming con. MAG CON will be held on April 11th and 12, again at the New Caney ISD Annex Building. It is the sole fundraiser for The Learning Center, which deals with many students that are considered “at risk”. The programs mission is to provide an educational environment that helps provide opportunities for these students to refocus their attitudes and academics. This is achieved by fostering positive teacher-student relationships and helping students realize their own potential. Its by far the smallest of the Houston-area cons, but its a great time and a great value for a good cause. Last year’s convention raised $4800, and Pathfinder Society had 44 players participating in 21 sessions. Naturally, we’re hoping to surpass both attendance and fundraising this year. That’s all well and good for the school – but this is a great con for gamers. $20 gets you in for the weekend (and there’s lots of group discounts available), and parking is free. We also have “the single greatest amenity at a convention, ever” – the mobile concession cart. That’s right, Om noms delivered to your table. You’ll still have to get up to go potty, though. We’ll get to the offerings for PFS in a second, but there’s more gaming if nothing but PFS is too much for you – if last year is any indication, we should be able to expect Stellar Horizons RPG, X-Wing, Warmahordes, Malifaux, Savage Worlds, old and new D&D, Zombicide, Khet, Ticket to Ride, Steve Jackson Games, an auction, a dealer’s room, and a ridiculously large board game library. We expect that and more this year. To sweeten the pot, GM *at least one* scenario (or three quests) and your admission is free. Our Pathfinder Society options are going to be pretty cool this year for both noobs and veteran players. If you’re playing The Emerald Spire Superdungeon at OwlCon (or elsewhere), we’re picking up where they left off and offering levels 5-9. Of course, you can jump in and out as you please. We’ll be offering the “Scions of the Sky Key” trilogy that ties in with the current metaplot, the two newest season six scenarios, and the best scenarios from season five for those of us that missed them the first time they came around. For noobs, we have all of the Silverhex Chronicles – the one-hour introductory quests – as well as this year’s intro scenario “The Wounded Wisp”. If you’ve played those already, great – GM it for us and get in free. We’ll have scenarios at all levels of play. You’re not going to be bored. Like every other convention organizer, I’m looking for GMs, and I have to have my GMs squared away soon. We have need for GMs at the following slots: Saturday, 10am – Pathfinder Society Introduction 6-10: The Wounded Wisp (levels 1-2)
So, join us. Raise money for some kids and have a good time in the process. Pathfinder Society scenario sign-up is at: https://warhorn.net/events/mag-con If you want to register without GMing (a paid registration), its at http://www.magcon.org/registration.html Don’t forget to sign up to both GM and play. ![]()
![]() I could've sworn I remembered seeing an age suggestion on the Beginner Box. Amazon says 13+. When a company tells me what age range their product is for, I believe them. When someone in our group wanted to bring his kid to a session (also for Empyreal Enlightenment), we told him that scenario wasn't kid-friendly. The end. The kid got into a We Be Goblins game instead. Assuming that a GM reads a scenario prior to running (which they should), I don't see what the problem is. The game isn't for young kids. An audience wanting to bring young kids should adapt, not the company. You're out a sum total of $4 for what is a FANTASTIC scenario. Just run it with adults during a time when the kids are at grandma's. A better approach might be to go on these very message boards and ask which scenarios go outside the norm and are good for kids. Of course, it depends on the kid - but adults playing an adult (or 13+) game shouldn't have to modify their environment. Soon enough, the kids will be ready for full-blown RPG goodness, complete with suicide haunts, the worldwound, and the Paracountess. Give it time. ![]()

Join us for a morning of fun & camaraderie! Fun Giveaways Breakfast Will Be Served http://www.meetup.com/Kingwood-Tabletop-Gaming/events/211843492/ I should also point out two things: THE WHOLE POINT is to help the newbie ladies. If you feel like you dont have enough expertise with PFS to attend, youre missing the point. Shelley will be the first to admit she has knowledge gaps too – this is to give each other support and to help build community. Secondly, while Dave and I are promoting it, this is Shelley’s baby. Her idea, she came to me with scheduling, she’s setting the curriculum. I’ll be in the building, but I’m not interfering (unless she calls me to) and I’m keeping dudes away. No dudes snaking breakfast, and no dudes butting in with “helpful suggestions” – including me. ![]()

Nope, I'm not spamming you to GM. I'm only requesting your company. And donations for a good cause. Taking up the fight against hunger, Gamers Unite to take a stand and raise both awareness and donations for a worthy cause. We take in donations for The Houston Food Bank and will soon partner with other community projects. Hope Ahead, Hunger Behind! Our mission is to make a positive impact in our community through the acts of gaming. If you would like to donate, there are two options:
FoodMachine is a game day benefiting Houston Food Bank on November 15th at the M.D. Anderson Library at University of Houston. We'll have:
It's a full 12-hour day with a library-imposed hard limit. To make it work we'll need everyone on time and ready to go. "Gamer Standard Time" won't work for this one. GMs will be calling their own breaks at the table, as there won't be scheduled space between slots so we can get three slots in. There will be Chick-Fil-A on hand in the kitchen area immediately next to our room. There's other food on campus that's a quick walk from where we are. I'll be running the one-hour quests, but at times the quests aren't going, I'm happy to make food runs as well. Admission is free, but parking is not (unless you like walking, but I can't figure out where the free parking is, so I can't tell you if that's a good idea or not). It'll be between $3-$10, depending on where you park and what kind of deal FoodMachine is able to work out between now and then. Donations to Houston Food Bank are greatly appreciated - that's the whole point of the game day. You can find out more about the rest of the event on Facebook under "FoodMachine Houston". Go sign up! https://warhorn.net/events/houston-pfs/schedule/2014/11/15 ![]()
![]() I'm really excited about this, because we're finally getting a special when the season starts - and not having to wait for a convention to roll around six months later. Ettin Games in Humble is being super cool to us, and allowing us to essentially take over their store on a Saturday. We'll be having a raffle to benefit FoodMachine, too. As for your personal food needs, there are plenty of places nearby. ![]()

![]() Last time I polled the Kingwood players, they told me they wanted adventure paths – specifically, that they wanted Rise of the Runelords. So I’m seeing if there’s a way to make this work, providing those that asked are willing to put the majority of work in. The Rise of the Runelords adventure path and Shattered Star adventure paths are now on the schedule. These only happen if GMs are willing to step up to BOTH run AND acquire the products. These are products that our friends at Ettin sell. No, we won’t be using pirated copies. I’ll go a step further and encourage purchasing from them, since they’ve been good to us – yes, Amazon is cheaper – but they’re not letting us use tables twice a month. I won’t be running these, but I will be providing “between sanctioned material” information will be posted for the players. Its actually a cool story (well, Rise is, I haven’t seen a lot of Star), and I don’t want you guys missing out. I love you little degenerate nerds. Anyway, you’re being told this now, because sanctioned content for Rise of the Runelords starts at level three, and you want time to build a character if this is something you care about. I’m going to give this some time – and if we don’t get GMs to acquire/run parts of the adventure path – then lesson learned, we’ll cancel, and not bother with another one. If you’re interested, the relevant links are below. If you want to GM something, let me know. Burnt Offerings: Rise of the Runelords, part I: http://www.meetup.com/Kingwood-Tabletop-Gaming/events/186471362/ Shards of Sin, Shattered Star, part I:

If this works, we’ll do it again with two more adventure paths. If not, we have plenty of other material to work with. ![]()

![]() Did you have fun at Comicpalooza? Good. Here's what's next - The Houston Con (formerly Space City Con, and no I don't know why the name changed). https://warhorn.net/events/houstoncon-2014 (And yes, there will be other gaming too.) GM eight hours, donate $5 to the charity (not to me, not to the con, not to con leadership) and get your badge for the weekend. No, its not free - its FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS for an entire weekend of gaming goodness, and you get to tell yourself you did it for the kids - and there's still GM slots available! Life is good! So here's what's planned: *A farewell to the Year of the Demon - every season five scenario that hasn't been offered at a Houston convention yet will be offered twice at The Houston Con. There's eight of them. *Seeker tier play. Yes, we heard you. You're welcome. *The season four special, "Race for the Runecarved Key". Oh, you played it? Good - volunteer to GM. For The Houston Con, we're doing it differently - the special is on Saturday morning. All you casuals that put your immortal souls ahead of gaming - and have missed out on specials we've been running in the past because they're done on Sunday mornings - now get a chance to join us. Also, the schedule has scenarios that lead up to "Race for the Runecarved Key" plot-wise beforehand and scenarios relating to it after. *Newbie stuff. Have a friend, wife, girlfriend (I'm just kidding, I know the audience) that you want to introduce to Pathfinder Society play? Newbie goodness galore - The Confirmation, obvs, and We Be Goblins, as well as some of the best lower-level scenarios made. Can you describe "Mists of Mwangi" to an outsider? No, you can't - get 'em to the table. Or get them to the Mendevian front! The Warhorn link above takes you to gaming sign-up. Registration for the convention itself is handled at thehoustoncon.com I don't know about you - but I dig Year of the Demon. Let's send it out in style. Together.
