Still giggling, the gnome almost breaks out int full laughter as he releases a burning ray at the still moving tree. Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Obviously, he's enjoying himself too much to pay enough attention to what he's doing . . .. Elemental Ray: 7; 1st Level: 3; 2nd Level 5 spell slots remain.

"Wow! WOOD!" The gnome takes a moment and "lines up a shot" across his thumb before he begins casting. Burning Hands, since we are 15' out . . .. I'm betting he can only hit 1 of them. Trees tend to be too big to move that close together . . .. Fire damage, Ref DC18 for half: 5d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 1, 4) = 11

Adjusting position for maximum benefit, the gnome giggles as he draws forth the primal energies of the universe. If it puts him next to a target, he will cast Burning Hands defensively (auto-success) - or just cast if not. Concentration+Pyromaniac+Combat Casting (DC 17): 1d20 + 12 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 12 + 1 + 4 = 29 Burning Hands (Ref 18 for half): 5d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 4, 2) = 18 Jinkies! As the fire is washing over his targets, he starts to dance a little jig . . .. Elemental Ray: 8, 1st Level: 4, 2nd Level5 spell slots remain.

As everyone starts pouring through the doorway, the gnome's face falls. "But, I was gonna . . .." and then he waddles after them. Seeing that he can't get past all of them, he trows out the idea of using one of his cone spells, and targets one of the bandits in the back with a ray. Ranged Touch (30' Range): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Sorry, work went late yesterday, getting me home basically in time to leave for my Boy Scout Troop meeting, and then when I got home my wife had passed out and I had to be on formal grandchild watching duty until Mom got back from work, and by that time it was 2 hours after my bed time . . .. Today I'm just tired. Fortunately, I don't think it had much impact in this game.

"'Observe' the house? Really? Do you have any idea how BORING that is? Houses don't do anything, really. They sit there, and slowly catch wood rot, that sort of thing. Now, a good fire is always moving, always changing, always reaching out for more fuel. Watching the house burn wouldn't be anywhere near as boring . . .." Yeah, I know. No, you stupid little gnome, you may not burn the house down. Just too good a chance to skip.

Talking Elk? The gnome struggles to get to a spot where he might provide a less attractive target for the elk before casting another spell which wraps the atomie's head in a wreath of fire that was formed from sounds . . .. Casts Ear-Piercing Scream as a fire spell Fire damage; DC17 Fort for half and to avoid Dazed condition for 1 round: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7

The conversion ability is core rules for elemental sorcerers. "Bloodline Arcana: Whenever you cast a spell that deals energy damage, you can change the type of damage to match the type of your bloodline. This also changes the spell's type to match the type of your bloodline." The core of my interpretation is that a spell which does energy damage can have the type of damage changed to fire. Pretty simple and clear, I thought. Double-check the quote text, though, so that there's no concern I'm stacking the deck. Edit: Disrupt Undead "You direct a ray of positive energy. You must make a ranged touch attack to hit, and if the ray hits an undead creature, it deals 1d6 points of damage to it." A ray of positive energy that does damage. Spell is Necromantic with no subtype. Magic Missile "A missile of magical energy darts forth from your fingertip and strikes its target, dealing 1d4+1 points of force damage." Magical energy that does damage. Spell is Evocation with subtype [Force]

Even beyond that, JJ stopped answering these sorts of questions because of how frequently the rules team disagreed with him and the reality that basically none of his answers wer3 ever included in the actual FAQ or errata. Nope, I didn't follow your link until he indicated it was a JJ answer.

The gnome moves around the tree the other way, trying to get a line of sight to the disturbance. If he can get a good line of sight in a single move, he'll attack, if not, that will have to wait until next round. As I am uncertain what his range will be, but am positive that it is AT LEAST 35', but could easily be more, I'll use his only Medium Range effect: Magic Missile, converted to fire, because that's what he does. Fire Damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 2 = 7

The gnome adjusts his position slightly while he points at the wyrmling and chastises it. "Bad wyrm thingie! No supper for you here." You see his mouth move, but the next words are taken by magic and delivered only to the Wyrmling, as a swirl of fire about its head. Ear-Piercing Scream (Fire) DC18 Fort for half and to negate Daze: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6 Meh. JUST below average.

The psychic would lie to you to make you feel better anyway. As a grumpy old man, let me share with you one of the best pieces of advice I've heard about finding "the right" job. You won't. Don't follow your passion looking for a living. Look for a living and BRING your passion with you. In my case, I had the USAF train me as a computer programmer, and I spent DECADES working as a computer programmer. Honestly, 1986 through 2016 I was either programming or managing programmers. In 2016 the USAF gave me the option of accepting a new position or looking for a new job. I accepted the position. Now I manage the IT staff providing all communications services to all USAF medical personnel in my immediate area. Our network stretches across more than 50 buildings scattered across one of the largest cities in America. Because helping people get better seems like a really important task to me, I easily bring my passion to work with me, even though talking about how many telephones a new building will need is WAY down the list of tasks I ever thought I would care about. My job satisfaction is higher than it has been in over a decade. Not because of what I do, but because I care about the 3rd and 4th order impacts of what I do. Because I know it makes a real difference in the lives of other people. In case you don't recognize it, that advice is one of the nuggets regularly distributed by Mike Rowe.

Shuffling his feet in his excitement like he's dancing, the gnome mumbles a few key phrases and makes strange gestures with his hand, before lifting it up to his nose, holding a nostril shut, tilting his head back and . . . blowing his nose at one of the zombies in the back? The phlegm, which truly isn't phlegm, moves towards the zombie more like a ray spell effect, sparkling with the reds and oranges normally associated with fire. Cast Disrupt Undead converted to Fire damage, targeting a zombie in the back. Ray Touch Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Arriving at the scene, the gnome frowns. "Well, this doesn't look like that big a deal. Just some brigands robbing a carriage, right? Looks like they went that way." He points out the obvious trail leading away, and starts to follow his own pointing finger (unless somebody stops/distracts him).

Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 Max effective check of 10 - untrained --- Knocks on door. "Hey. So, I hear you've got the survivor in there. Can he talk? What's all this noise about him being both a bodyguard and the only survivor. Doesn't that mean he failed his duty?"
As I said I was reusing the alias of an unused character, I went ahead and transferred what I have completed of the concept into that profile, and am now posting using it. I should continue filling out the holes through the day. Pretty much down to gear and advancement thoughts already. Yes, this was the closest gnome picture to the concept that wasn't the iconic female druid. Those are better only because of the hair color, honestly.
