Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

I apologize for my absence. Various things have come up and were taking lots of time. I'd hoped they'd be behind me by this point but that doesn't seem to be the case. I think I'm going to have to quit this game.

Good luck and I hope you all have a great game

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

You can do it Marill. You can actually hit this person and do something. Come on, you can do it

Marill pulls back his shoulders and tries again to hit.

touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 for damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Will save DC 15 for half

Absolutely garbage damage but at least I hit :-). Yay. I'm contributing :-) :-) :-)

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill will once again try and hit the undead. At least he isn't losing any spells :-)

touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 for damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Will save DC 15 for half

Marill then goes off into a corner and weeps quietly to himself

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill will again try and hit the undead

touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 for damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 Will save DC 15 for half

"Sigh"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill casts his Cure Light Wound Spell, steps up, and attempts to touch the undead

touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 for damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Will save DC 15 for half

@Marill - I think you should have more spells known, one of which could be Cure Light Wounds if you wished... your profile just shows 2 1st-level spells known and you should have 4 as a 3rd-level Bard (plus any that you might have added from Secrets of the Grave).

I do have cure light wounds on my actual character sheet. Could have sworn I added it to my profile. Added now

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

First, let me apologize for the radio silence. There have been some issues consuming my time and attention.

Those issues are hopefully now under control, I should be able to resume posting again.

Marill steps into the flank and swings with his starknife

tohit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

"Woo hoo!!!! Take that you foul undead fiend"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"Darn, I KNEW that I should have got around to buying a few spare weapons"

Marill just looks on, hoping that Quinn has this

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Narill hurls his star knife down
tohit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill heads over to the edge and starts to sing

"You can do it Quinn, yes you can. Kill them dead, dead, dead"

In case it isn't obvious, inspire courage :-)

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

I'm sorry for my absence. I missed the fact that paizo was online for a few days and then some health issues got in my way.

But I'm back now.

"Yes, you should definitely go first"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Yes, I'd look

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill isn't at all sure what he can do against a haunt. He is not at all sure if it will work but he is going to try a daze spell.

Due to being a Dirge bard his mind affecting spells can affect undead. But daze has a target of a humanoid so this will almost certainly not work RAW. But he doesn't know that and haunts are a bit of an edge case

If it does happen to have a chance of working, Will Save DC 14

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"As long as he is dead and buried, I don't care"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Sorry for my lack of posting. Life. Will level up tomorrow

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill leaps to his feat, grabbing up his starknife, and then looks around trying to find the source of the danger.

"What is up. Who is that knocking at the door?"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"Yes, lets return. I could definitely use a bit of a break from this place"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"You are truly a brave woman. Would you object if I said a prayer to Desna over you before we proceed? While I am NOT a Cleric of her, I truly believe that I do her work and have her blessing"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill takes his starknife and weaves it in the shape of a butterfly, ending one of the wings hitting into the cloth.

attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Know Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

"Damn, another animated object. But at least it isn't made of metal so should be easy to damage"

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Sorry for the delay. I've been quite sick the last few days. Should make a proper post tomorrow

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Sorry. For some reason Paizo wasn't showing me that there were new posts so I hadn't realized I'd missed a bunch

"Not much that I can do against these, but I'll try"

After the bomb goes off Marill will try hitting the chain

To hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 for damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill bursts into song
"Bugs. Bugs. Kill kill the nasty bugs!!"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill mutters to himself
Well, if everybody else is leaving, I guess I should too"

He then goes and joins the others out away from the haunt.

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"Waaagh. A poltergeist!!!!.Desna, protect us"

With that, he bursts into song.
+1 morale bonus on attacks, damage and saves vs fear

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"Do we have any horses? :-). I think we should just check the north rooms first"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"We should definitely get Father Grimburrow to properly re-inter the body. Only he can do the right job. Otherwise we risk his soul or body returning"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill will bravely advance on the zombie and attack it with his starknife

attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 for damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 piercing

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"Lets carry on and at least clean up everything that is above ground. Right?"

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Levelling up is fun :-).

I'm now ACTUALLY a Dirge bard :-)

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"Theodore is ok, he just needs some healing. Does anybody have some healing for him?"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill is going to wrack his brain and try and figure out what is wrong with Theodore and, far more importantly, how it might be fixed

know stuff: 1d20 ⇒ 15

All knowledge skills count as trained. That is a 21 for religion (seems the most likely) or local, and a 17 for any other knowledge.

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

The GM said that I could say that I have the remaining Haunt Siphon

"Desna, I beseech you, save my friend"

Marill grabs out the last Haunt Siphon and holds it against the chains
Haunt Siphon: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3) = 10

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Fort Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

I assume that I can NOT move up to Theodore, take his siphon AND activate it during a single round, that somebody who is closer will have to be the one to activate the siphon.

So, he moves towards Theodore and sings out an Inspire Courage. Hopefully that increase to saves vs fear will be of some use.

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"A quarter of what?"

Heads down with Theodore

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"That thing makes me nervous. Could somebody please shoot it with an arrow from a long distance? See if that wakes it up."

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Last round of lingering performance
Perform: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

"Its magic is getting stronger and starting to overcome me"

With that, he goes and picks up his starknife :-(

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

I have lingering performance so I'll keep singing
perform: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

He'll then move so he has a more or less clean shot at the skeleton and throw his starknife

Throw starknife: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 (does NOT include any cover

"Sorry, got distracted by the flautist"

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"Praise Desna!! My singing seems to be overcoming the flute music."

Thinking that others are better at killing things, he'll just maintain his countersong

perform: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

"Take that foul Flautist!!!!"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Can I make a Knowledge religion check as a free action to hopefully learn something?

If not, and hearing flute music, he'll hope that a countersong will be useful

perform sing: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Everybody can take that 20 as their save if, of course, the GM says you can :-)

May Desna protect us!

GM Aldizog wrote:

[ooc]@Marill, I'm assuming you were maintaining Inspire Courage this round. Do keep track because they go by fast at low level.[/ooc

I am keeping track but I have lingering composition so they don't go TOO quickly

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill moves up to a stirge and tries to hit it with his starknife
to hit: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19 for damage: 1d4 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill moves up to the north and then does what ALL bards do.

He BURSTS INTO SONG

"Kill the big bugs. Kill them fast. Kill, kill, kill"

Everybody gets +1 to hit and damage

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Marill goes checks table and the room, hoping to find some keys.

perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

I vote for northeast

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"Don't look at me. I doubt that even MY singing will convince the door to open itself. So. another direction?"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

"Go ahead. We'll be right behind you"

Male Varisian Human L3 Dirge Bard - devoted to Desna

Not sure that I have much to contribute at this point so I think Marill just delays.

Was I able to get out of the room in my last action?

GM Aldizog wrote:
I don't think a Knowledge (Religion) check by itself can calm a haunt (though someone correct me if I am wrong),

It varies by haunt. Some can be put to rest by a specific skill or set of skills with Religion and Occultism being the most common but by no means only choices (I've seen Performance, some Craft or Profession check, etc).

I wasn't meaning to imply that I was sure it would work or even thought it very likely, just trying to move things along IF it happened to be a haunt where this would work.

After calling out "If somebody has some Holy water, try using that" he retreats from the room as far as a double move will take him having nothing else useful to contribute he sees little reason to stay in the effect.
