I stand corrected on the above action. I would not have been able to move in the surprise round, seeing only a standard action is allowed. So Marcus will stay where he originally started.

My bad, you are correct. I didn't actuly pull out a scroll. I pulled out the spell component, that was required as part of the spell. That being said I would't have been able to move.

Knowing the mindless object is about to head, full throttle, into his unsuspecting friends. Marcuse pulls out a holy parchment and holds it high into the air. He then calls to the god of battle, for the strength to stand before a worthy foe. Gorum, Beskyt kombattant! Translated:
(Hallit,) Protect this combatant! Shield of Faith:
School abjuration; Level cleric 1 Casting Time 1 standard action Components V, S, M (parchment with a holy text written on it) Range touch Target creature touched Duration 1 min./level Saving Throw Will negates (harmless); Spell Resistance; yes (harmless) This spell creates a shimmering, magical field around the target that averts and deflects attacks. The spell grants the subject a +2 deflection bonus to AC, with an additional +1 to the bonus for every six levels you have (maximum +5 deflection bonus at 18th level). In anticipation of combat, Marcus's request was granted. A protective shield of faith surrounds Marcus granting him addition protection from the object. This thing is animated! Prepare for combat! In a heightened sense of glory Marcus moves to intercept the object and readies himself for a mighty blow. I wont be able to access the map till a little later. I will move my token at that time.

Marcus looks for a good hand hold. With all his might he attempts to help lift on the portcullis. Marcus assists Darvan lift the portcullis. Strength Check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Marcus considers the situation for a moment. I’m assuming if we try and hack our way through the stone, without the proper equipment, our weapons will break before the stone will. We could try a combined effort to lift it, although it looks pretty heavy. Marcus checks the ground along the bottom of the portcullis, to see if it is sand or stone. After examining the bottom of the portcullis, he visually inspects the top to see if it can be by passed, or toppled over. He also looks along the sides, to see if they are secured, or by passable. Marcus turns to the group. The designers must have some way to enter or exit as a contingency. After considering the likelihood of an alternative entrance, he begins searching the area. Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
