Female Gnome Bard (First World Minstrel) 1 | HP 9/9 | AC: 19 (T: 14, FF: 16) | Saves (+2 vs fear/despair, +5 vs charm/compulsion, +1 vs fey): F:+1, R:+5, W:+1 | BAB: +0, CMB: -2, CMD: +11, | Init: +3 | Perc. +3, SM -1 | Spells: (1st) 2/2

Sense Motive: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15

"'Repentant' means feeling sorry for the bad things you did," Lucky helpfully explains. For the most part she then stands back and lets Alyssa take over the interrogation, noting that the sorceress is way better at it than she is. As Rhiann and Erik ride off she calls out to them, "If you're not back in a couple hours we'll come after you!"

Returning her attention to Keila, she adds a quick clarification to Alyssa's question. "By 'how many can we expect to find' we'd like to know both how many are at the camp now and the total number of bandits, if those two numbers are different." She tilts her head, studying Keila's face. "I'd recommend being honest."

Diplomacy Aid?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

From now on Lucky will defer to Alyssa's diplomatic expertise and be the aider rather than the roller. I didn't realize how high your modifier was!

Female Gnome Bard (First World Minstrel) 1 | HP 9/9 | AC: 19 (T: 14, FF: 16) | Saves (+2 vs fear/despair, +5 vs charm/compulsion, +1 vs fey): F:+1, R:+5, W:+1 | BAB: +0, CMB: -2, CMD: +11, | Init: +3 | Perc. +3, SM -1 | Spells: (1st) 2/2

Lucky hooks her whip back onto her side, bends down to pick up her crossbow, and puts that away too. A lock of hair falls in front of her face and she grimaces. Black with grey streaks. Pickles would have a fit if he saw her now.

Pickles isn't here. That's probably for the best.

She ignores Erik and Rhiann for now. Even if they go after the last bandit she shouldn't be needed, seeing as she's neither a good fighter nor a good tracker. Instead, having taken a moment to calm herself, she approaches the living bandit with a smile. Officially she's here for morale. The ragtag army's hurdy-gurdy girl. (Because there were few enough volunteers that the Swordlords saw no reason not to go along with her stupid idea.) Finding out what this bandit knows would be good for morale, right?

"Hi there! I'm called Lucky. What can I call you?" The bandit's kneeling which puts her only a little above Lucky's eye level. That's helpful. "You made the right decision by surrendering. We're supposed to execute unrepentant bandits but you look repentant to me. You can help prove that by giving us some information. You said you were following orders? Whose?"

Diplomacy, Influence Attitude: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

Lucky is genuinely trying to be diplomatic but if you think Intimidate would be more appropriate then she'd have a 16.

Lucky flinches as more bandits fall. It was a good thing of course, it meant they couldn't do...whatever it was the leader had been threatening to do to Svetlana, but she still wishes they'd stopped fighting instead.

With Adela close to the last standing bandit Lucky doesn't trust her aim. (Not that she trusted it all that much to begin with.) Instead she drops her crossbow and grabs her whip from her side. Her plan is to crack it over the bandit's head, distracting him away from Adela, but it gets caught on her cloak and she has to spend time untangling it.

Lucky stares aghast as the bandit falls. The bandits are dying. They're dying for real and they won't come back and why don't they understand that? Why are they still fighting?

Looking up at the bandit coming towards them she fires her crossbow again. Her hands are a little steadier but not by much. "Just go away!"

Lucky is uncharacteristically solemn as she listens to Svetlana's tale. "That's terrible! Surely with all of us we can take care of a few bandits."

Despite her confidence when the battle actually starts she's initially too shocked to move. She's never fought people before. Truthfully she's never fought anything before. Despite occasionally being dragged along on "hunting" trips she's never fired her bow at a living creature.

While she finally manages to squeeze the crossbow's trigger her hands are shaking too badly to aim. Gulping she takes a step back and quickly reloads.

Sorry for disappearing right as this game got started. I ended up in the hospital unexpectedly and was in no shape to post. I'm still recovering but doing much better now.

I'll catch up and post here shortly.

One of Lucky's quirks left over from her time in the First World is a refusal to use anyone's first name. During the trip she would have come up with nicknames for each of you. Any preferences on what those would be? If the answer is 'no nicknames' she'd default to using your last name only; those aren't tied to individuals the same way so she feels more comfortable using them.

Somewhere near the middle of the group, dwarfed by the medium-sized people around her, is a gnome riding a small pony. Her large dark eyes are taking in the scene with apparent wonder. Silvery tattoos spiral across her cheeks, but her most striking feature is the multicolored hair that hangs loosely to the middle of her back. The top two-thirds of it are yellow, (not blonde or golden, its definitely yellow), while the bottom third gradually changes to red. A bright orange streak behind her ear goes down the full length. Her clothing by contrast is surprisingly simple: a grey cloak over a green tunic, dark brown trousers, and leather boots. The only jewelry she's wearing is a thick wooden bracelet around her left wrist.

Lucky dismounts near the stable, lightly patting her pony's neck. "We made it Shamrock! To the first outpost at least. The last outpost? No, the only outpost. Because finding places for more is why we're here!" Shamrock, (a handsome chestnut pinto), nickers his agreement. Looking over to Oleg she asks, "Should I pick a stall for him or do you want to do that? He's a sweetheart. Pickles bought him for me. Said I needed a pony because I certainly wasn't going to be able to carry everything myself!" From the amount of gear sticking out of saddlebags (and the comparative emptiness of her backpack) Lucky is taking full advantage of Pickles' gift.

Once Shamrock is situated she bounces over to introduce herself. "Hi! I'm Lucky Bignoodle. It's wonderful to meet you both." She beams up at Svetlana as she takes a bowl of stew. "How long have you lived here? Do you see a lot of travelers?"

I’ve spent Lucky’s extra 500gp on sleeves of many garments, upgrading her hurdy-gurdy to masterwork, and getting a combat-trained pony plus equipment. (The pony will most likely never see actual combat use given its stats, but I wanted it trained so it wouldn’t flee in terror the second a fight broke out.)

There’s one final tweak I wanted to ask the GM about. Currently Lucky has a skill point in Linguistics so she can know First Speech, (the language of the first world). Could I take First Speech as her extra language for intelligence instead and move that skill point into either Knowledge (arcana) or Spellcraft?

The first wrinkle is that First Speech is not among the options gnomes get for high intelligence. The second depends on whether you count Perform as a background skill for bards. If you don’t (which I’d totally understand given versatile performance), then she could only switch from Linguistics to a different background skill. (Which she might if you rule that way, Knowledge (Nobility) is a good candidate with her background.)

Either Warden, General, Royal Enforcer or Ruler (though the lack of a Charisma bonus would hurt us there.)

One house rule I've heard of and like is allowing the ruler to apply the stat of their choice (or alternatively "the mental stat of their choice") to kingdom attributes. That way the ruler can be whoever makes the most sense from a roleplay perspective.

Lucky would definitely prefer the Grand Diplomat role.

Sorceress & Bard mean Arcane & Knowledge skills are covered.

FYI Lucky’s archetype trades out bardic knowledge. She’ll be putting skill points in various knowledges when she can but doesn’t have that extra boost.

GM Ventiine:
Thanks for taking a look. It’s definitely not an optimal build but I’m hoping it’s at least good enough to not drag the team down.

If we don’t end up with a rogue I could probably spare some skill points for Disable Device. Although it’s crazy how tight they already feel. You’d think 9 would be excessive, but three performance skills and a couple knowledges and you can’t be a bard without diplomacy and perception/stealth/UMD are all really useful and oh shit where’d all the points go?

(I can’t play a cleric/sorcerer/any other non-Intelligence class with only two skill points per level. Just can’t do it. I love skills too much.)

Sorry I won't get the chance to play with you Angus. I hope things calm down for you.

After thinking about it I am going to switch to the whip/aid build. Archery requires more feats than I'm willing to spend for something I don't see as her primary role.

Hi everyone! I hope you don't mind me joining. (I was really attached to Lucky after building her for the initial recruitment, so when I saw the table was resetting with a new GM I asked Ventiine to consider adding Lucky if there was room. They kindly agreed.)

Lucky's a bard that doesn't get Inspire Courage. Her archetype instead grants allies abilities from the fey template. Standouts include energy resistance, spell resistance, 10ft per level teleportation, and invisibility. The downside is they last for only one round and can't be maintained like normal performances. The Lingering Performance feat does extend them, but I haven't been able to find a solid ruling on how that affects the invisibility/teleportation abilities. I don't think it would do anything since those aren't "bonuses," but I will ask for a GM ruling on that one.

Combat role: I see Lucky as a caster bard but originally planned to take some archery feats to help tide her over until she gets more spells per day. However I wouldn't get Precise Shot until level 3 which means the first two levels would be tricky. My other thought for these early levels is to grab a whip, the helpful trait, and focus on aiding people who actually do damage. Would people be okay with that or would it feel like she's not pulling her weight?

I like using Discord for games. My handle's EverAnon there too.
