Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Aye, good gaming with you all!

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Present!

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

I see some bad guys, Alexandr, and MacLaren.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

I updated my character sheet as best as I could, most importantly adding my avatar image!

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Excited to start some map combat!

Having seen him in action, I know MacLaren does a great job with maps on Google Slides. I think Roll20 is not as good for mobile. But I usually am playing on a computer anyway.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

I'm logged in. I have never managed a character sheet in Roll20 so I don't know how that works or how to add tokens to my sheet or to the map.

We walked past the Smithy at A5 previously before beginning our first wild goose chase.

If there is another entrance to the smithy besides the one that the goblin-things took, Shin will move toward that entrance. Otherwise, he will stick to approaching the only entrance with Alexandr.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17.

Shin moves up with Alexandr to the gate and readies an attack against anything that might approach. "They're headed on the path to the beach!" he announces.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Recognizing Anastasia's warning, Shin catches up to Alexandr without moving ahead. I think that still needs a Run action since Alexandr has a head-start, but probably a smarter move.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin decides he should close the gap. He runs forward!

Run action, moving 120 feet.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin moves as quickly as he can without drawing attention. (Which I think is 50’ per round while stealthed).

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin nods as the others point out the threat. If possible, he breaks off from the group quietly to try and flank them.

Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Sorry to leave you out of the action! Afternoons are the active time for this game, seems like.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Sounds good. So the real question is, does Nox figure out what the longsword does?

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

@DM Yttras--Can I shamelessly suggest that the longsword we discovered is actually a rapier, so that it'll be a good match for MacLaren?

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin takes the revealed blade to Nox. "Any insight on what this is?" He then looks to the others still on the surface. "It's not my preferred style of blade, but perhaps one of you can use it?"

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

That's fair. Probably not worth it to get Rage Prophet given where you're going with the build.

"Nothing ventured, nothing gained, Shin!"

I do think that in PbP a more adventurous swashbuckling approach often is more suitable than being more cautious, for the sake of maintaining momentum. If your party is weak relative to the challenges of the AP, then you may need to eke out every advantage you can, but that does slow things down. Still, I'm not going to be suicidal. Going to have a look and come back.

Obviously if everybody would prefer we take a different approach, I will go with the group.

No problem with this at all. The main reason Shin is searching the farm instead of standing near the well as MacLaren does this is likewise to keep things moving and maintain momentum!

I don't know if it's actually a good prestige class, but Rage Prophet does exist for hybrid oracle / ragers.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

"You're really going down there, MacLaren? You really do worship a reckless god!"

Shin decides to focus his efforts on searching the farm during MacLaren's adventure--especially the underspace Alexandr happened to reveal in tripping over a loose floorboard.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin gives chase to the creature, but isn't crazy enough to jump down the well. "Aiya, though I had it!" he says in frustration. "Bet that was the thing making the tracks."

He starts walking back to the farm, but responds to Alexandr. "It tried to get me when I stuck my head out the window. Maybe it just wanted to get away. But if you ask me, don't trust anything with tentacles!"

"Weird little tentacle creature!" announces Shin in a warning. He tries to bait the creature with a false thrust before twisting and swinging!

Feint + Attack
Feint: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Glaive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6; Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Unfortunately the feint is a lot more effective than the attack!

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

"Out the window!" Shin shouts, as it seems clear that someone has escaped. Shin attempts the direct route, out the window. He tries to drop to the ground while landing on his feet.

Not sure it's needed, but just in case, Acrobatics Take 10=15 to drop 10 feet without damage. If that's NOT allowed, then use this roll.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Shin doesn't notice the noise, but MacLaren's attention convinces him to move in pursuit!

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Upon seeing the bits of melon scattered about the disheveled room, Shin shrugs and waves everyone forward. “Fruit,” he says simply.. No longer on edge, he heads toward the doorway off the right and marches in.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin has his glaive out and ready as Alexandr counts down and opens the door.
Stealth?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

"Send in the Bloodrager" always works! True for combat and for locked items too.

And whatever you do, "don't go down the well."

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin nods as the heavily armored Alexandr readies to bust through the door.

He's less sure of what Nox is thinking when the gnome nods and points to the well. But deciding it must be some sort of instruction, Shin peers within its depths, just in case.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

With the consensus beginning to point toward following the southward tracks, Shin will look to follow those.

Survival Take 10=15.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Tsk, tsk, still rolling 1s for Survival, Ana. :P

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin leads the group along the track with help from the others. He points to the tracks heading east into the forest. "Tracking will get harder as we head into the thick grass."

He then points to a second set of tracks, similarly sized but slightly heavier in imprint. "There's another set of tracks here, heading south along the street. Couldn't see it at first because of these other tracks. Maybe we try following these other tracks so we can continue to inspect the colony."

Ha! I totally overlooked your +6 bonus because you rolled a 1.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

I'm probably the right person to roll here--an okay +5.
Shin tries to hold back his annoyance but is clearly rolling his eyes. "Focus, people. We need to track down survivors now. Worry about rebuilding later."

Shin tries to follow the tracks.
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
That's three 7's in a row! Where's my jackpot?

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin spins around from his investigation of the smithy as MacLaren points out how fresh the tracks are. He nods silently and moves to follow them.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Roll20 map looks good to me.

Arriving at the stockade, it feels like all of their fears were being confirmed. "It's quiet here. Too quiet."

Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12.
Entering the stockade, something from the smithy (A5) catch Shin's attention. "Small tracks," he says simply. "Heading south."

Shin peers into the smithy. Assuming he sees nothing to stop him, he will enter and look around.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Good point about Liberating Command--gotta get in those non-somatic spells. A few of my other favorites are Command (99% sure MacLaren won't prepare that!) and Blindness.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Burst of radiance is possibly the best 2nd level spell, especially when you first get it.

And as a martial character, I reserve the right to multi class in all sorts of unexpected directions based on need and or story!

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin trudges up the hillside, occasionally using his glaive as a walking stick. "The fact that there are no tracks in the sand seems to rule out an attack from the sea, unless it happened long ago." Shin was obliquely trying to reassure Anastasia, but he could hardly convince himself.

Shin checks for obscure signs of tracks, just in case.
Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin steps onto dry land and savors the moment, running the sand between his fingers. “Can you believe it? Landfall on a new continent! It is a great feat, even if we don’t have time to celebrate.”

After muttering a quiet prayer, Shin ties up the boat. ”Gotta make sure the tide doesn’t take it away, Though there’s no telling if some other creature wants a boat.”

He then heads toward the sandy path, assuming folks are headed up.
Perc: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Shin's jaw drops as Anastasia pointedly stabs the sea-goblin and kicks it overboard. "But--" he says, weakly trying to intervene. It was not at all what he had expected. And yet, was it wrong? He stares tensely at her for what felt like an eternity.

"Hell of a punch," he says, finally, attempting to change the topic as he follows Anastasia's gaze toward the shore. "You're right--we should focus on the dangers ahead."

Shin's grip on his glaive remains firm--he is decidedly more on guard than he was before the attack, uncertain about both sea monsters and his new allies.

"Bloodrager," says Shin, feeling the word out. Shin had listened patiently, and the long, detailed explanation he received was either peculiarly well-rehearsed or it was true. He decides it must be the latter.

"To fight with anger, rage, these savage things I know of, even if they are contrary to the way of disciplined combat. Yet to infuse such rage with the spirit of the Yokai at the cost of your humanity--that is the height of recklessness!"

He looks upon the bloody remains of the goblinoid creature that Alexandr had destroyed. Effective, he thought, but still horribly reckless. He shakes his head.

"Fight how you will. But know that if your rage ever turns on us, your death will be your own fault." He makes this last statement calmly, giving a respectful salute with a fist pressed into an open palm.

Shin then takes his smelling salts and waves them under the goblin creature, seeing if it will wake.

Alexandr Sergejevich Kerensky wrote:

Been a while since I last invaded someone other species natural habitat.

Aleksandr says as his eyes turn pitch black and his incisors grow to pronoucned fangs. He jumps directly at the octogob which tried to stab him twice.

"惡魔誕生!" cries Shin as he witnesses Alexandr's transformation.

Tien:
"Devil Spawn!"

As the tentacled goblins fall, Shin does not let his guard down against the curious man. He watches Alexandr warily as he and MacLaren have their discussion.

"If that goblin thing is alive, I can wake him--without healing him." He pulls out his smelling salts. "And perhaps we should take him back to Ramona. She is our leader and it is her right to dispense justice." Shin seems to be quite sincere in this statement.

"Can we get to the more important question here? What are you, Alexandr? A river monster, you say? Men do not have their eyes turn black when placed in battle. It is dark magic you practice. What "fair lady" do you serve?"

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

I assume that Shin is standing but unarmed given that he was playing lookout.

Shin quickly draws his glaive and swings it at the creature attacking Anastasia.
Glaive, power attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9; Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
He misses badly, but at least he doesn't fall into the sea.

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

I propose that our DM roll initiative for everyone going forward--saves time.
Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
As the goblin-octopi attack, Shin stands there in complete shock!

Rolling for entertainment value.

Shin stares off into the distance, looking for danger. He lets Anastasia have her two oars unless she chooses to offer one away.

"Slow and steady to save our strength. I'll help us tie down at the dock." He suggests minor adjustments to keep the rowers synced up and get to shore in an efficient manner. Assuming they get there, he helps the team disembark.

Shin nods in response to Anastasia's claim to a fine pedigree. "In many parts of Tian, the kings and nobles are served by bureaucrats--wise and learned folk who come from every station and who earn their place by merit, not birth. It is a more civilized way of running a nation. I admire that Andorans also believe in meritocracy, even if their approach is quite different."

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

"Are you of noble blood? I confess I don't recognize your tabard," says Shin to Anastasia as she prepares herself for battle. The truth was that he wouldn't recognize anyone's tabards--unless they happened to be Tien.

He shifts with slight unease at having to look up at the very tall woman, feeling surprisingly small. He decides instead to divert his eyes downward, at the magical gnome. "So if your uncle is Nox-12, and you're Nox-14, then who's Nox-13?"

Assuming there are oars remaining, Shin will also take a position to row. But he won't fight the others over it.

"Dextr--what?" says Shin, finding Alexandr's jargon hard to follow. "I'm an explorer. I've been to many places in Garund and Avistan. Once I was a soldier, but I left that life years ago."

His attention turns to Brother MacLaren. "Did your god just give you a pintful of ale?" Shin is incredulous--he's not sure whether he should be impressed or worried, but he decides to roll with it. "I think that makes you the most talented bartender in all of Azlant! I will some of your God-ale tonight, when we celebrate our successful landing."

He then looks at Nox. "Are you a mage, then, as Alexandr says?" he asks? "Do you have magics that would work in a fight?"

Male Duskwalker U. Monk (Flowing Monk) | Shaman 8

Embarrassing--I totally missed that. Thank you!
