Lanliss rolls his eyes dramatically as nearly everyone moves back in to the room he and Silvash just vacated. He stands in the doorway (did he have the concept of a chokepoint wrong?) and calls on Fharlanghn's divine energy once again. Channeling to harm undead: 1d6 ⇒ 5

"Silvash!" Lanliss admonishes. The travelling cleric is not very tactically minded, but even he can see the risk of being surrounded by undead while most of the rest of the party is in the next room. While the skeletons are still rising to their feet, Lanliss grips Silvash's shoulder and casts protection from evil on him before he calls out, "Let's go!" and gives the other elf a nudge towards the door before the cleric takes his own advice and darts out of the room. If this is a surprise round with only one available action instead of a full round, there's not PoE spell. Just running.

Lanliss reaches for the flask, but stops himself before touching it. He turns to the others. "I don't know, but these must be great treasures if they are guarded by the remains of elven heroes. But I worry about anything dwarven with elven guards (no offense, Dorian), especially if it has to do with something called the "Night Caller," so I don't really want to take the whistle. "Also, I know we need to get moving, because the Hucrele kids need us! So, I want to take the flask. Maybe the candle if nothing bad happens. Let's vote. "Should I take the flask?"

"Guarded by elven heroes, but the whistle has a dwarven description?" Lanliss runs his free hand over his pale, tied-back hair in consternation. "If we were weren't underground, it would be safer to try the whistle out. I guess we should take it and try the whistle when we're in a large cave, maybe? Certainly not in a cramped tunnel. "Can anyone tell anything about flask? Is it magic? I can't tell, because I didn't ask Fharlanghn for that spell, because instead I asked for... Oh!" Lanliss casts detect poison on the flask to see if it... well, to see if it detects as poison.

Lanliss busies himself rolling up and securing the rope he had tossed to Dorian. If he has the means to pry out the second piton he used for that, he'll do so. But he'll leave the first piton used to secure Jacq's rope for when they come this way again to leave. "I've traveled to a lot of places -- it's my job -- but I haven't gone underground very often. Invoking a blessing (or two) from Fharlanghn, Lanliss nimbly darts across the rubble. Spending 2 of 5 uses of Agile Feet. "Be patient, Dorian!" he calls out as he passes. "We'll toss a rope down to you!" When he reaches the other side, he grins brightly at Silvash before taking off his pack, rummaging around in it, and pulling out a piton and hammer. "Ta da!" The elves identify a likely place to secure the piton, and tie Jacquelin's rope to it. If the party needs another rope to use to help Dorian out of the hole he's found himself in, Lanliss has his own rope and another piton to contribute.

Glad you're back, RE! ********* GM, would the cleric domain ability agile feet be of use to Lanliss when crossing the rubble? Quote: Agile Feet (Su): As a free action, you can gain increased mobility for 1 round. For the next round, you ignore all difficult terrain and do not take any penalties for moving through it. Lanliss starts using his feet to brush any gravel and small rocks to the side, trying to form a safe path to walk along. For the pieces of rubble too large to easily brush aside, he picks them up and places them along the edge of the path. When he reaches the ledge, even before he thinks about his armor and pack, Lanliss moves over to Dorian. "Dorian! You're injured! Can I use Fharlanghn's blessing to heal you? "I'll have to touch you near the wound, but I know that some people are uncomfortable with being touched. However, I'm uncomfortable with being punched because you weren't expecting me to touch you, so I thought I'd warn you, first." Lanliss smiles innocently. He's not trying to use levity. It's obvious that he's just speaking his thoughts without much of a filter. Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 The above spell is if Dorian agrees. Burning true strike to cast it.

Lanliss also removes his armor and pack. When his turn to climb down comes, he sends them down before he goes down so that he can be putting them back on while Temerith and Jacquelin follow. Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Lanliss is just able to make out that there is one rat still on its feet. He draws back his arrow and fires. Ranged attack from higher ground: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 1 = 13
It probably makes zero difference with those roles, but if the remaining rat is in melee with Dorian, then that attack roll suffers a -4 penalty. I'm not sure if that's the case since Dorian just moved.

Lanliss had been watching Dorian traverse down the rope, hoping to see how hard the climb down was. And so, he was able to see when the vermin started to swarm. That sounds right, thanks. I just checked, and Hero Lab won't let me drop any of my ability scores below 7, with the exception of Con (5) and Int and Dex (9), which are elves' racial penalty and bonuses. It doesn't matter, mechanically. The extra 1 point from the point buy system that I would get by bringing Lanliss' Int from 9 to 8 could only apply to his Con, but going from his unmodified 10 to 11 isn't going to get him anything, and I'm unlikely to put points into Con as he levels up. Mostly, I was just curious. Thanks.

Hey GM, hope things are going well. Any update?
There's two issues with an 8 person party for PbP. One, obviously, is that it's a lot for one GM to handle. I like that you're acknowledging that, and you have a plan for adjusting after a trial period. The second issue is that with 8 characters, some are bound to be eclipsed by others. Sometimes it's personalities, sometimes it's due to posting frequency, and sometimes it's due to the time of day some players have available to post. (I can think of one anecdote in years past where the GM would make a post, nearly all of the party responded to and often resolved whatever the GM posted, and then the final player -- who lived in a much different time zone -- would log on to play to find there wasn't much for them to do.) I'm willing to give an 8 player party a shot, but I do anticipate having to navigate some of what I described above.
