Lan shrugs and looks to the others. "The old man with sciatica feels better today, because the sun is out." he offers.

You already know where I sit, personally. From the perspective of you being a human being, I completely accept that you have a lot on your plate, and saying that you don't think you can manage it is a lot more than many dms give their players. Do whatever you need to do. This is not a job. :)

Jin finds Lan people-watching, then Lan shows Jin where Eliza would normally be this time of day. Because Lan is good at knowing what people would be doing, though the why still often eludes him.

Then Lan 'plies his trade' until there would be people there. No sense in staring at the bartender. They always do the same thing when he does that. Pretend to wash glasses. Traps: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

Lan would most likely be found within the Tavern the group had initially met... assuming the day hadn't pressed forward. He was studying people while they ate. Decidedly less offputting than would be expected, as Lan had done this for the majority of his life. Three dots glowing under he cheek as he does so.

You do know that Survival for hunting food is pretty much a 'per day' thing, yeah, Jin? Or do you have a class feature or something?

Lan slips out to greet the day, and mostly be lackadaisical for once. It's a bit more interesting to watch others than to check his traps; they almost never have anything. He'll give them another week.
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
Technically, survival can be performed untrained, heck, Lan could take 20 on trapping. It'd not do much good, though, with the lack of ranks and such. But even if he'd just spent his time foraging, rather than trapping, he'd have received enough food for 5 people for a day with that -really- lucky dice roll. You could easily treat this as having the proper tools, I guess. That's probably what I'd do. I wouldn't suggest they were masterwork by any means, however.

Lan will check his traps, then go to bed a little late, as he normally does, given that he has a shorter required sleep time. Otherwise, nothing special planned.

Lan remained quiet throughout the trip, still trying to puzzle out what Zara had meant. It probably didn't matter overmuch, though. Unlike Lan, a lot of people seemed to just talk for the sake of talking. So it was only natural that some things got lost in translation, or simply overlooked. He stayed slightly aloof, and seemed to favor cover, as usual.

As everyone has stated that they're pleased with the game, and I'm the only one who has had problems... I guess you'll just be better off without me. I'll probably withdraw once we get back to a proper place. Sorry for any disappointment.

Don't worry about missing things. That's for your players to notice. Paint a picture with a wide enough view, and your players should interact with the things -they- feel are important. They'll tell you what you didn't explain thoroughly enough to them, via action. Your players are four or more people (as a general rule). They will think of things you didn't. They won't think of things you find obvious. You won't think of things they find obvious. That's why it's like herding cats.

I expected it to -go- that way. Not start there. And now with the captain gone, I don't think it will ever get to that point, or be nearly as interesting, just having an NPC crew. I dunno. It just mostly feels like it's antagonistic, overall. Both player to GM, GM to player, and Player to player. It's just everyone playing a game -against- each other, instead of together. All I can give you is honesty on how I feel.

Honestly, I'm on the fringes of interest. And it's a sizable number of factors, most of which you have very limited control over. Things that have affected me, that have been up to you:
'Big Talk' points in RPs are usually going to drag out. Especially when it's super important. I'd normally dive right in, so other people wouldn't have to deal with that, but I expressly chose not to play that character in this setting, because I almost always play the face. It's worse when the conversation is forced upon you, rather than an invitation or the like. 'Hey, go talk to these people about a treaty' sounds good on paper, but then speaking for a village, holding up your end of the bargain, and the like is just... ugh. I could happily speak for a party, but not a village that we know roughly nothing about. The campaign also isn't really what I expected it to be. The premise (when we had a fledgling airship pirate) reminded me a great deal of an RP I had that was freeform that I loved. Then... it became trekking in the snow. Now, I get that heroes start small (and that you actually started us off big), but it just wasn't really what I expected much at all. I'd signed on to be 1/6 of a party, and to play a minor roll of information gathering and such... not be a major part of a party that would have to be really optimized or get lucky to kill things. Then the biggest one, and this isn't really you: OOC synergy. It's pretty clear to me that a lot of people here don't really care about a lot of people here. I may be way off base, and it's even possible people would just deny it even if it were true. I'm the type to say something before it gets too bad to deal with, though. There's just a lot of strife here, or at least it -feels- that way. And I'm usually good with feels.

Lan's face snapped to the leader's when he spoke once more. He had managed to avoid eye contact with anyone throughout the trip, but the creature's presence kept snapping him to attention. "Of course it does."
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4

Lan fidgeted in place. He did not like being watched. He also knew he wasn't allowed to hide... as that would be viewed negatively.

Lan doesn't work well with strangers giving him an order to speak. He's more the type to chime in when it's necessary or proper. He doesn't really care about talking to the boss, he's already informed the other person of the threat. He might try to salvage things once more if people try to screw it up again, though.
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
Odd. Their disdain for all things not-hobgoblin had me believing that they wouldn't deign to speak common for the most part. Shows what I know. I'll chalk it up to being able to tell the help what to do. Lazy slaves not speaking hobgoblin.
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
I was actually on the other end of that. I assumed the rank and file hobgoblins wouldn't understand a word Jin said, and they ran off to grab someone who -did- understand human tongue.
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
Lan's natural aversion to being noticed made him a bit more twitchy than usual, being forced to stand amidst the hobgoblins, who surrounded them, and being the focus of their attention left him on edge. As a result, he wasn't even maintaining a power, as his eyes darted from new person to new person, and object to object.
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
:P In all fairness, this man showed no reason for us to respect him. Respect is earned. As most of us would know little of Hobgoblin society (given that only one of us really has knowledge local, if I remember right), knowing that he was going to act as a staff sergeant (or whatever) would when disrespected by new recruits was something that couldn't really be determined by the group beforehand. To us, he was just a random hobgoblin that knew common. In the end, Lan was just performing the neutral good action, choosing to inform them of a threat, -regardless- of whether or not they wished to ally against it. If it trimmed the fat, and killed a demeaning conversation, all the better. :P
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
So, it was actually your entire intention to tell one person in the party that they weren't allowed to talk at all? Thus starting an argument in front of the person, in the event said person didn't do as they were told? Hm. I'm not sure how you expected for that to work out. :p
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
Lan simply shrugged, maintaining empath.

Thank you for saying that. The way in character and out of character conversation was going, it seemed like people were more interested in making sure only Jin was talking than actually roleplaying and finishing the mission. :(
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
Lan nodded to him, and unstrapped the gauntlet on his hand, offering it to him. It was clearly nothing special, and it was obviously a token gesture; if they had truly slain the creatures they had slain, the gauntlet was not the weapon he had used.
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
Lan sighed and slipped from his hiding place, as a show of good faith. He didn't remove his spiked gauntlet, though. He began to speak to the leader in goblin, trying to emulate the things he had seen other humans do in interacting. The three dots that showed that he was using Empath were glowing beneath his eye. Goblin: "I apologize for my allies bickering. We are on edge after felling a frost wolf, a mountain lion, a polar bear, and scouting out a giant's camp in the last week. None of us are diplomats by trade, yet our superiors felt that we should approach you. You can understand, hopefully, the difficulties of speaking from a position of authority. We have come because several miles to the [insert direction] we discovered a Frost Giant living within a cave. It seems to be sating its bloodlust with local fauna for now, but we felt that it was a threat to both of our people. If you do not feel it wise for us to stand firm together against this enemy, and make both of our peoples stronger, then we will gladly leave and not return."

Well, it is certainly his prerogative to start a war, rather than acknowledge that there are two people to talk to, which seems to be what all of this stems from. So... I'm gonna go with 'nothing we could really do, aside from watch Jin talk' if we wanted to succeed. Which... would have been a very entertaining couple of weeks.

Lan stays aloof from the party so that he can watch the goings-on without drawing too much attention to himself. He maintains a reasonable distance, but still stays within cover, or at least concealment. Being able to watch over the group was also a bonus. It was a shame his skills were so short-ranged.

Lan would be in a cozy spot, as he will often be, with a bit of cover. Just like what he set up in the house they happened upon before. As he's not actively seeking opportunities, he'll have a take-ten hide for a dc of 24. If it matters.

Mmhmm. But Elan's specific rule of four hours trumps the general rule of 'everyone needs eight hours' or, apparently six, by that rule. I've never seen it as six. Strange. I guess if it can be done with six for broadcasters, it definitely helps set up better night watches that don't take 16 hours to complete for two people :p Either way, the Aegis gave 4 hours for Lan to sleep, and 8 hours for everyone else. Orders of watch are above in three four hour clumps.

So, just to double check: You want us to spend twelve hours sleeping, overall, with two people with 4 hour sleep schedules, yeah? You could probably shorten that significantly, if you wanted to be a bit more effective. Plus the time taking down and putting up the tent needs to be covered. :P You're burning daylight. :)

I'd say 8 hours -resting- not just 8 hours of sleep. Just to make sure I understand what you mean. Light stuff that doesn't trigger professions or the like, is probably still safe, I'd think.
Male Elan Cryptic 2 | HP 17/17 PP 8/8 Defense 7/7 | AC 17 T 14 FF 13 | Fort +2 Ref +7 Will +2 | CMD 15| Init +4 | Perception +4
Lan volunteers to take the first four-hour watch; he barely used his abilities, while Zara pushed himself a bit more. That meant him getting rest was more valuable, first. Lan would keep anyone who felt like staying up with him company, possibly in the form of staring, or rearranging things for seemingly no reason. Lan can watch for all but 4 hours. Zara ditto.
