Liberty's Edge

I preordered Starfinder months ago, before subscribing was an option. For some reason I thought I'd be getting a PDF with this purchase. Clearly I didn't read the details closely enough. My order has since shipped and is on its way, but no PDF was made available.

I'm happy to start the Starfinder subscription now, but am I too late to get a free PDF by adding the subscription? I'm assuming that since my preorder has shipped, starting my subscription with the core book will result in purchasing it twice.

"Prone: The character is lying on the ground. A prone attacker has a –4 penalty on melee attack rolls and cannot use a ranged weapon (except for a crossbow)."

Does the term "melee attack rolls" also apply to natural attacks or combat maneuvers?

In the Combat chapter, Melee Attacks are their own category of attacks -- different from Natural Attacks and Combat Maneuvers. So, does the penalty from being prone apply only to the Melee Attack action or all forms of attack rolls while in melee?

I'm hoping to find a RAW source, since this will have PFS applicability.

Please move the Skull and Shackles Character Add On Deck to my sidecart if this will allow this shipment to go in the next few days.

It is disappointing to think that this one item held up shipments for so long without us subscribers being notified.

It is even more disappointing considering that I called customer service last week and specifically asked if one or more items from this order was delaying shipment.

I was told then that everything was in stock and the order would go out just fine, just a bit late in the rotation.

The rules specifically state that all bonded items are masterwork, including rings, amulets, and wands. Further, if lost or destroyed, the cost of replacement is 200 GP per level + the cost of masterwork. However, nowhere in the rules can I find the cost of masterwork rings, amulets, or wands.

Since the cost of masterwork is wrapped up in the price of items and a wand of a cantrip is only 187.5 GP, I would imagine that a masterwork wand must be less than that. For a home game, I'd probably rule 50 GP, but in PFS it will remain subject to table variation until the cost is spelled out.

Mike and Mark, Ultimate Equipment is not yet a core assumption. Can you please clarify some rules and pricing variations?

1. Mundane items and weapons, such as whip and scorpion whip: Do the new rules presented in UE take precedent?

2. Pricing of Staves: Do the new prices in UE on staves presented in earlier core assumption books replace those costs? For example, the three staves from the Pathfinder Society Field Guide have all been reprinted in UE at much higher prices.

Thanks in advance for clarification.

2012 is done, so I decided to take a look at the numbers. I'm certain there are many who have me beat, but it's still pretty impressive.

During 2012, I did the following:

• GM'd 68 PFS games (Azmyth you still need to log God's Market Gamble).
• Played 70 PFS games (I still need to log Rebel's Ransom).
• Attended 6 gaming conventions here in California.
• Drove an average of 1,500 miles a month attending games in stores all over California and even one in Reno, Nevada.
• Had the pleasure of meeting and gaming with hundreds of fantastic players, GM's, and the marvelous characters they brought to life.
• Ran and played in five different Adventure Path campaigns every Wednesday night, Saturday night, and alternating Fridays with a wonderful group of Fresno players.
• I spent roughly 12% of 2012 actually playing Pathfinder.

All in all, it was a great year.

This year, I intend to attend two more cons (PaizoCon for sure and hopefully GenCon), start running another AP, and probably play a bit less (I'm nearly out of scenarios).

So, another good year planned.

I just got around to opening this delivery (It's been a crazy month).

Anyway, I noticed that the shipment did not contain a copy of Never Unprepared by Engine Publishing, which I had ordered as part of the Engine Publishing Bundle that was on sale at the end of November.

Instead, I received a copy of Psionics Expanded by Dreamscarred Press, which I did not order.

Should I ship this book back?

Thanks!

So, creatures with a grab attack gain a +4 bonus to CMB when grappling. Does this bonus only apply when they grapple as a part of a grab attack or does it apply to all grapple checks?

Grab simply states: Creatures with the grab special attack receive a +4 bonus on combat maneuver checks made to start and maintain a grapple.

The reason I ask is that the grab maneuver can only be done on creatures the same size or smaller, while grapples can be done on any sized creature.

If someone foregoes the grab maneuver, do they still get its bonus?

Under Blue Ring Octopus it says, "They cannot survive out of water."

If a PC witch uses the Water Lung hex on that familiar every 54 seconds of the day, is that sufficient to keep the octopus alive?

Or does the sentence I quoted above indicate that octopi have other needs than simply breathing which cannot be met outside of water?

So, I play an archer who is about to retire. I have always been under the impression that blanches applied to weapons do not remain from scenario to scenario. By level 7 it became a fairly standard process to simply buy ghost salts for every scenario played, while carefully hording my adamantine arrows.

I had simply assumed that, just like any other "permanent" spell, the unused blanche effects go away at the end of each scenario.

However, as a GM, I have discovered that other players have assumed differently. Without knowing difinitively, I let it ride, but figured it would be nice to know for sure if the effects of an unused blanche applied to an arrow carries over from one scenario to the next.

I assume that the listed levels for this sorcerer archetype's bonus spells is wrong and that Aid should be level 5 and Cure Disease should be level 7?

So, I've been bouncing this idea around for a while of a pirate inquisitor of Besmara. The Sudden Shift power of the Deception subdomain really lends itself well to a mobile melée character. However, I keep second guessing myself on the specifics.

Here's the build I have so far:

Spoiler:
Race Human
Stats: Str 18, Dex 14, Con 13, Int 13, Wis 13, Cha 7 (I'll grab Con at 4 and Wis at 8).
Traits: Devotee of the Green and Armor Expertise.
Feats: Combat Expertise and Improved Dirty Trick.
Trained Skills: Climb, Geography, Nature, Perception, Prof. Sailor, Stealth, Survival, and Swim.
Orisons: Brand, Light, Guidance, and Stabilize.
1st Level: Expeditious Retreat and Cure Light Wounds.

I guess my questions are whether I'm better off with the Str build or going more dex heavy.

Then should I stick with straight Inquisitor or dip into fighter or rogue for a couple of levels. I know both options offer a lot, but I'm not certain if I should bail out on inquisitor.
