HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Gratz mate. I had my fill of business travel this summer, but I hope you get off to some interesting locales...

For future reference, please don't ever allow any delay on my part the hold up the game. Jakes will tend to do nothing much fancy - basically hit the nearest good guy as hard as she can... I'm sure the game can survive a round or two without her witty repartee. ;-)

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Howdy - on travel, please play me out as needed. Back late this week...

Jakes moves to wipe down her blades, but the fluid that composed the water creatures have left them mostly clean. Surveying her surroundings, it appears the crisis had passed.

"Anyone got a bow?" she calls out to no one in particular.

Jakes passes

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

"Right..." she answers Cain, scowling down at the watery mess their most recent target left on the deck. "Don't much like this fight. These things don't _bleed_...."

As the ships begin to really separate, Cain looks back. He gives his team's handiwork a half-grin and elbows Price. "Now there's a sight I aint ever seen before... the water. The waves. The flames. Kinda pretty, if ya ask me."

Jakes watches with Cain and Price as the Talingarde ship burns down to the waterline.

"There's a saying we had in the army.....F&$@ the navy!"

She offers a wayward salute to the wreck with the tip of her bloodied sword, and turns to collect one of the looted shortbows.

Snagging a bow. Who has the ammo?;-)

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

No worries!

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Jakes eyed the fighting around the Talingarde captain, eager to join in, but first she had to remove the fool in front of her. With a cry, she sent her as yet unbloodied new weapons arcing in.

Full Round Attack on Talingarde sailor
Masterwork Longsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Sounds good!

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Jakes laughes as the flames climb up the mast of the Talingarde ship.

"Not gonna miss out on all the fun!" With the boat secured via rope line to the Talingarde ship, she heaves herself over the rail and attempts to clamber aboard the enemy vessel.

Climb check?
Climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

2 people marked this as a favorite.
HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Is there any sort of check for crossing to the enemy vessel?

Mark et al, hope you don't mind the many questions - still getting up to speed on the ruleset and a boarding action at sea is not exactly beginner box material.;-)

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Jakes grabs a grapple from a nearby sailor and sends the hook sailing across the gap, attempting to catch it on the Blade of St. Macarius.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

EDIT:braincramp on syntax

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Has the northern ship moved any closer than 25 feet? If it seems jump-able Jakes will take that attempt. Otherwise she'll take a rope and grapple from the crew and cast it to form a line...is that a strength check? Dex?

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

I assume the sailors are at their oars?

Jakes watches as the Talingarde ship cannily circles round the two smuggling boats. She hears the exclaimation of the Talingarde captain.

Turning to the boat's master, she shouts, "Nudge us closer! We're useless over here."

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Jakes shrugs and shoulders deeper into her traveler's cloak, hands coming to rest of the grips of her weapons. She casually slides back along the port side railing, and assumes a position in which she can support Cain and Price and readies for action.

Xzaral, is it too late to say thta we've been doing this since we met the captain and his crew? It's the smart thing to do -- given that our names and descriptions may have gained some notoriety after their escape from Branderscar. If so, Cain's common disguise would be a man of his size and height, but with fairer skin, hair, and more normal-colored eyes.

Likewise - assuming Mark allows the retrofit - Jakes always wanted to be a blond.....with a horrible scar running down her face. Blatant enough that her new description can't be chalked up to makeup and hair dye, at least

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Summoned by Price's warning, Kalina buckles on her sword belt as she quickly makes for the bow, rudely shoving a sailor out of the way.

Cain grunts without taking his eyes off the slowly growing ship. His voice is equally low, "Fine with me. If it does come to a fight, though, how easy you think it is to sink a ship like that? Fire their sails? Snap the mast? Anything we can do without having to actually get our hands bloody would be nice."

"I know that make. Standard Talingarde patrol cutter. Not more than a dozen armed men usually." She smirks. "Standard customs inspection is for the commander to come aboard with about half. The rest are archers that cover the inspection from the deck.

She glances off to the side, eying the other ship carrying Odenkirk and the rest of their group. "Not sure how they'll handle two ships. Not going to put themselves in between, 'less that commander is a stone cold idiot." Turning to Price, she says, "I know you're the brains of this outfit, but if we can get the commander out of sight and below decks, we might be able to send him back aboard his own ship with a few alterations..." Jakes raises an eyebrow and taps the Cardinal's iron circlet hanging from her belt....

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Mark, can I make a Profession: Soldier check to see if I can ascertain the class of ship, how many men-at-arms are likely to be aboard, etc?

Jakes shoulders her pack again and gives one last long look at the manor house. "I've had enough of this place. Let's get moving."

To Odenkirk, she says with a laugh, "Well don't just stand there directing traffic, Captain. Up anchor, reef the mainsail, and all that."

She watches strange little Fargo struggling with Gwyn's pack. "Though it seems like you've made an ogre out of Price's little puppy dog..." Jakes raises an eyebrow as Fargo loses hold of the load again. "Hrm. Not a very good one..."

Are we splitting up? If so, I grumble and lug my pack to the second ship with Price and Cain...

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Jakes arrives just in time to hear the Captain's request, and drops her pack on the deck with a solid *thunk*.

"F@$~ me, the other ship?!? She scowled down at her pack. It really was a fine piece of armor, and she felt like a real soldier for the first time in months, but damned if it wasn't heavy. Unexpectedly, she found herself missing the stinking pack mules that carried most the Talingarde military's supplies on march. They shat on everything and spread flies around the camp like a leper spreads disease, but she couldn't deny they did the job...

"Don't you have a cabin boy or something to load our s~+$?" she barks at Odenkirk.

Looking around are her slowly gathering companions, she shrugs. "Three months sitting on our asses and no one thought to bring the ogre along to hump this stuff aboard?" She kicks at her dropped pack, the toe of her boot dinging satisfactorily against the rather expensive piece of magical armor within...

We're breaking INTO a fortress this time. More bodies means more options. We can tell the sailors to take a walk if they get nosy...

Okay, crunch is updated. Went with Mark's suggestion to buy equipment with the level 3 gold amount, rather than trying to reconstruct loot and gold splits..

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

My triumphant return, of course!

Unfortunately, I need to wait whilst King Mark is plotting things....uh oh, I imagine its going to hurt. At least I have retained all limbs, to my knowledge - sorry Xanos.;-)

Hey, go easy on Sgt. Jakes. She's just a lady tryin' to make it in a man's world.

King Mark, I'd ask you to play nice with her, but you know she wouldn't...;-)

Thanks folks, sorry to have to bail mid-stream on this group especially.

King Mark, that approach would be fine. But again, the character is yours to dispose of as works best for the group. Your the one doing all the hard work, after all. Have fun!

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Hi folks,

I'm afraid the demands of life and work (not the least of which the current trip I'm on) find me with not enough time to devote to the playthrough. Rather than (unfairly to all of you) string things along with inconsistent posting, I'll be withdrawing from the game - I apologize if this leaves you in any sort of bind. Dispose of my character as you see fit! Good luck to you all, and thanks!

As an additional note, this is by far the finest quality group I've been in, in terms of style, and roleplay, and in consistent, interesting characters. Fantastic stuff, folks - keep it up!

Jakes stops a moment in the doorway to the Armory, face splitting with a grin.

Eyeing the rack of blades, she says "Ah! Everything we need to host a proper party!" With a chuckle, she tosses her knife into the corner and brandishes the rapier, swishing it through the air for good measure.

Don't see anything else Jakes needs. She will assemble the rudiments of proper fighting dress from on of the guard uniforms however, to go with her chain shirt, discarding what remains of her prison rags....

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

just an FYI, but I will be away on an extended business trip until next Friday. Should have limited connectivity but expect some RP-limited inputs until then. And if I'm holding up the action in any way please feel free to put me on autopilot..

HP: 38/38 AC 22/14/18: F+6, R +4, W+1*, Per:0, Init: +11

Jakes peers past the ogre into the southern doorway, raising an eyebrow at the floor newly pasted with man parts.

"So, that went well. What about the girl?"
