Check out the PFS link, upper left hand on the site, it'll give you all the tools you need to build a PFS-legal character. Race, class, equipment, materials, etc. Your hobgoblin ranger sounds very cool, though!
Don't worry as much about favored terrain as favored enemy. Humanoid (human) is a great one to take, as you'll face many foes that are humans. Undead, animal, and monstrous humanoid are also good choices depending on how you play your character.
I like playing rangers but don't often choose the companion, as already mentioned it's a little more than I prefer to spend to keep them alive and relevant, but they can be a fun addition to the game (the flanking is great at lower levels.)
Both Guide and Skirmisher are legal.

"Another mission, another crew of great allies to call friends!"
Kajar stays for Targos Min-Katheer's rites, and drops a few rose petals on the storied Pathfinder's grave. He remembers the thieves, knights, and knaves he met along the trail leading from Trunau to the Worldwound, and points past in what feels like another lifetime.

Jhon- hang onto my charge as well, I drank a potion- though if I need it can I get that 7 later? ;)

As he dashes across the sand he yells, "Give him back to Hell, Lance!"

@ Roscoe - I'd assume Lance is on his mount, and freeing prisoners might not be that helpful- I'd say flanking.

@Lance and GM Tyranius - If GM would allow that check I'm happy to roll it, but I leave it up to GM Tyranius to decide if this qualifies as "severe weather." Kajar turns to Lance, smiling his toothy grin. "It is wise to know the local customs, Lance. I think that Hokama may well remain unchanged in his ways, but at least you have given him a stone to turn over in his mind as we progress."
Wincing with pain, Kajar quaffs a potion CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
"Thanks for the offer, Jhon, let's hold onto those charges- we have a murderer to catch."
After his clobbering at the hands of the harpies, Kajar also dons his armor.
The half-orc refers to the map found in the harpy cave. "Fellow Pathfinders, this map bears the mark of Ser Gaspar, one of our fellow caravaneers. How it ended up in that foul aerie is mysterious. Nonetheless, it appears Hokama's intuition has led us close to the Silken Way. According to this map, it is not too far from here. Shall we follow the path and be on our way?"
Kajar straightens his spine, and is sure to keep his words low enough so only his fellow Pathfinders can hear him. "I do find it suspicious that another weapon belonging to Mahmoud and Gaspar's partnership has turned up in a remote location- or at least in a place where the caravan should not have traveled, if we are to trust both Hokama and this map."

Kajar watches the elder harpy's body plummet to the rocks below. "Nice eye, Kirian! I'm not sure how many more shots my skull could've taken!"
Kajar notes the map and kukri as belonging to members of the caravan, and remembers Mahmoud's body, left for the jackals in the wastes of the Silken Way.
He again looks at the map, surmising their proximity to their original path, and turns as Hokama demands help for his slave, his eyes meeting Lance's.
@ Lance- the plan was to spring the boy free right? Or are we waiting on Hokama- perhaps he is our murderer?
"Likely enough here to buy the boy off," Kajar mumbles as he rifles through the teakwood chest, trying (hopefully) to pick up on Lance's intent stare.
He resists the urge to attend the fallen slave, trusting there is a plan in place to deal with Hokama; he also wonders how the Taldan's map ended up here, without Ser Gaspar...

It is recognizable as one of the pieces that he and Gaspar were carrying among their wares. One thing is exceedingly clear: there has been murder on the silken caravan. As the camels and riders continue to jockey for positions in the caravan, Kajar takes a quick pass through the chaos
Kajar approaches Gaspar du Mer, and offers what he considers a classic Taldan salute.
"Good Knight, may your journey expand Taldor. I am Kajar, a simple guide from Belkzen; my keen senses consider any territory my own. I will be riding with my companions at the rear of the caravan, should you need our expertise do not hesitate to call."
Kajar then approaches Mahmoud, smiling his toothy grin.
"Master Mahmoud, you no doubt know these sands better than I, and we appreciate your help delivering a hero to his home in Katheer. Should you require anything that I may provide, do not hesitate. I guided many knights and pilgrims through Belkzen into the Worldwound, and will be happy to provide assistance if needed."
Finally the half-orc sidles up to Hokama Pashket.
"Master Pashket, yours is perhaps the second-most important detail in this caravan. I am Kajar, a simple scout and bearer of a hero to his final rest in Katheer. I am a man of the world, and am willing to learn from those I encounter in my travels. I offer you my services as best I can on our journey."

As Kajar peruses the hot-weather suits available for purchase, and feeling his light coin purse, the half-orc chooses to strip off his armor and wears his breech-cloth leggings, strapping his armor to his pack.

Having failed to previously break through the leper-priest's enchantment, Kajar attempts to convince Ben-Garri into surrendering, or simply fleeing. I've played all sides- caster, martial, TT, PbP. I've found that the best solution for strategy is to make clear the caster's intention. What is important is that we agree on a plan.
My home game's strategy is - "OK, what spells are you thinking about?" Saves many deaths by friendly fireball :)
So, as this is a PFS scenario, let's be sure we get a solid tactical plan together going forward. This battle, though we tried to play to diplomacy, quickly broke down, and as a martial character I'd love to know what the caster is thinking of doing before I act.
Reason? Your spell might be better than my weapon, and I'm willing to let that happen, 100% of the time.
I'll admit I wasn't sure what Rilia had planned, and then blades drawn and then, well, half-orc...
I think it's better to have an overall strategy/coordination, even for a short adventure. It lets everyone put their best talents on display, which will of course lead us to great success!

Kajar slips past Kirian to confront Ben-Garri.
"Master Targos is our charge, not yours!"

"Ben-Garri, unfortunately we must take our fallen comrade from your care. It was the drinking-blood ritual that tipped your hand- Oh and the kukri. Master Targos will be properly honored."
Kajar draws his Orc double-axe, and advances, heeding Rilia's advice to hem them in. He snarls a toothy grin, and his eyes cloud over with menace as he advances.
"Ben-Garri, perhaps you and your pathetic cult could survive a bloodbath here, one provoked by your own ignorance. Leave now, and know you are a marked man. Or stay and die, the choice is yours. Or maybe ours. Either way, Master Targos comes with us."
Kajar walks up to the saffron-robed leper, almost too calmly as he speaks, and finishes his solilique with a quick swipe of his axe at the leper.

Kajar looks around the deceased's hut for any signs of Lamashtu patronage.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
"Ahem, again, Honored Ben-Garri, we are to take the Master's body to his final resting place. I am not an expert on such things, but I would assume this would include his blood as well? I know little of such rites- I am a man of Gozreh, and my blood belongs to the wilds."
Kajar straightens his tall half-orc frame, topped with weapons and his large, white teeth.
Did Kirian's Detect evil ping? Maybe wait and see what our Paladin senses before we continue- we know there is some deception at play here...

A half-orc ducks into the mud hut.
"Sorry I'm late, Mother had some last-minute chores..."
Sensing a palpable awkwardness in the air, Kajar tries to quickly assess the situation.
Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Perception: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 = 10

Kajar clears his throat. "Ahem, Honored Celebrant, Ben-Garri, though I agree Master Targos deserves proper funerary rites, we have been asked to deliver his mortal remains to their final resting place, as he was and is, actually, a well-respected member of our own order, too, the Pathfinder Society."
Kajar nods towards Rilia, interpreting her gestures. He looks at Lance, hoping the cavalier understands the delicate situation. In turn he signals Kirian and Roscoe, assuring them he is a fellow Pathfinder, and his hand slowly slides to his morningstar's handle, just in case.
"And again, though I am sure you act in good faith to our fallen comrade, unless you have a writ for his request, we do have his permission to proceed with the service, as can be provided by Master Kirian, a respected healer in his own rights, and of course we invite you and all the others outside his humble cottage to observe the rites of passage and pay respects. He was a generous man, and we aim to honor his last request, as well."
Kajar smiles a toothy grin.
"I'm sure we can find an amicable solution honoring our mutual friend."

Hello All! Checking in, late add-in from the Flaxseed Lodge thread.
Glad to join up, Kajar is a verbose half-orc ranger/skirmisher. Favored enemy is humans, he is quick to combat when weapons are drawn.
As of now more a follower than a leader, but always willing to offer an opinion, and happy to follow if that is the case.
Kajar is a team player and not afraid to jump into the fray. He does try to talk his way out of things, to varying degrees of success.
He spent his early years as a guide for Pathfinders and crusaders through Belkzen, and moved to Absalom recently with his mother, where he joined the Pathfinder Society.

The half-orc appears in a corner banquette, a cold tankard of ale and a roasted leg of lamb in his jaws.
He follows the frenzy of agents in and out of the Lodge with his eyes, but still is fixed to his meal.
When the serving girl stops by his table, Kajar smiles a toothy grin, pushing his plate towards her along with a respectable pile of silver coins.
"Been weeks since I've had a proper sit-down, yet the Road always calls to me. I'm a new Pathfinder, but an able tracker and guide, handy with weapons... I saw Master Zey's body... I want to help in any way I can."
Looks like everything is full for now, if there is an opening in a low-tier group out there, Kajar is available. All info is in the profile. Happy New Year!

I'd like to cross off "Disrupt or sabotage a significant Aspis Consortium operation, such as by ruining an alliance, damaging its reputation in a large city, or preventing them from recovering an artifact." in my Faction Journal Card. Can I do that?
Question for anyone who knows the answer- again, new to PFS so thanks for bearing with me-
Does the accomplishment need to be completed by the character alone, or is being part of the situation count? Also Grand Lodge and would like to cross off this or "Defeat one or more members of the Aspis Consortium in an encounter whose CR is at least equal to your character level." (Which would be 1)
Thanks!

Kajar withstands the brunt of the enemy's attack, but is deeply wounded by it.
"Surrender wasn't his intent."
Kajar coughs up some blood.
"I might need some healing, but get HIM first!" Kajar shouts, pointing towards the Aspis agent in the green sweater.
The half-orc then dashes towards the other skylance, avoiding the smoking circle and the Aspis agent. He draws his crossbow once he reaches the skylance.

Example:
We should let Samurais kill themselves at 10th level (If they fail?) and get to 11th level for free, just to add dramatic flavor to the Society Games. We should RAW/Additional resource it...but just for this one specific window of time (lvl 10-11). I'm pretty sure after 30 games of credit we could creatively make a thread for each base and sub class "dying boon".
This would not be cooler than the "Risen" title some factions bestow on you, but Ninjas and Samurais...need more love...not from me of course..."I hate ninjas" but everyone else should throw ideas out to make dying more enjoyable for these weaker classes.
Rogues have been Abandoned by this game that I love, my 1st level Magus is a better Rogue than any rogue...I named him "Rouge" because new people both misspell and mispronounce this word really often.
He uses true strike (5ft step in) then improved disarm if that is legal? I do it unarmed (no whip no flail) because I want to be able to hold the weapon and I roll high enough to make the enemy drop everything in both hands all of the time.
I would never use the Steal Maneuver unless I was built like the pregen Merisel but modified for level 9.
Feel free to post "any" dying boon idea.
I like the "Good Lich" any spell caster at level 11 or 12. Wizard/Cleric/Sorcerer would be standard, but Druid? Neutral Lich? or Bard maybe?
All of it would be bragging rights...what's the epitaph? What do you want on your tombstone?..... Sausage or Pepperoni?

I get why GMs who run PFS modules are so grumpy all the time...they're not allowed to change the story-line. PFS would be amazing if they allowed you to run the game into higher tiers while keeping the players at the same level.
For example: Tier 1 -- New & / Or Regular Players Tier 2: Challenging & Bigger Rewards Tier 3: Power-Gaming & Huge Rewards
And then you provide rewards to the GM that matches the level....
Tier 1: GM gets a lot of rewards. Tier 2: 50/50 split Tier 3: Normal Rewards
Then you're getting a good mix of players and GMs playing the game. Everyone then understands the complexity of the game. Okay, you're playing a Tier 3: As a GM -- we're expecting a TPK, therefore you do not get a lot for it. Then vice-versa: Okay you're playing the game normally so here is a few rewards and a bonus for bringing in a new player to the fold.
That's how I would fix just about any RPG, but PFS specifically. That would-be amazing to see...
Anyone up for Tier 3 game at level 2? I'll GM.

I feel that "Optimizing" characters is just another aspect that I have to deal with as a GM or table-mate playing PFS, it's a tournament game to me unlike the "Legacy" games I grew up on. Unlike the GenCon one on one games I lived for. I personally think I have the pregen player record for this very reason. I play with the best character builder in the game, so it's too easy to win 75% of the time. I get sad when the monk can Trip the whole village with vicious stomp.Season six writers -- "Wabbit Season"--When Alien Hunters attack!!!!(Whatever)... should consider revising the CMDs and CMBs in the modules, Kyra in Black Tentacles is laughable. Gibbering Mouthers should form a union.
I want fame so I act silly, I was the first to reroll a Natural "20" and I miss the nostalgia of the good ole days having played longer then most of the players have been alive.
Ben might not see GMs be able to freestyle, but it happens all of the time. Last convention we did like 145 hit points to the boss that had at most 60. I spiritual weaponed it while making a stabilization check (Nat 20-Of course).
My proposal is a star for a Hard Mode system set up just like the GM stars system, if you see a 5 Star Player, expect "Epic".
I just feel some great players never GM but even with one star, they get an added bonus to their rerolls and it gives the game a new way to inspire greatness.
