Jzero is silent for a while after reading the journal. "We sometimes think monsters are made by evil gods, but this shows they can be made by thoughtless acts of cruelty as well." Regarding the goblin chief, Jzero says, "There is a fine line between justice and revenge. Mercy is sometimes a better judgment. Tell us what you know about this ..." he glances back to a page in the journal, "Mal-fesh-nee-kor and if it proves helpful, I for one will agree to setting you free, provided you promise to lead whatever goblins remain far away."

Jzero contemplates the corpse and then suggests, "Perhaps we should cut off her head and take it with us to show authorities who was inspiring the goblin attacks." He is prepared to put the head wrapped in cloth in a bag for transport. He asks the goblin chief, "Who is she? Why did you follow her?" Jzero assumes she may have something written down that might be on her person or in the place she slept while in the goblin lair.

If Jzero's two attacks both achieved raises (I think they did) then the woman should be both vulnerable and distracted. Vulnerable: Actions and attacks against the target are made at +2 until the end of her next turn. Distracted: subtracts 2 from all Trait rolls until the end of her next turn. I'm a little vague on the wording as to whether the duration is to the end of Jzero's next turn or the end of her next turn. This might cause her spell to fail also. Jzero continues his attacks, trying to keep her overwhelmed trying to defend against him and his comrades. First Attack:

I assume you are talking about Starfinder. Both Pathfinder and Starfinder have a pretty simple way of scaling up characters with level. Everything that is based on a proficiency level (which is most things you roll for) includes the character level in the bonus. So both attack levels and AC levels go up with the character. Characters also gain improved proficiencies periodically depending on class, which gives an additional +2 to the bonus. So, for example, in Pathfinder, you used to have to invest in a magic item called a cloak of resistance, which gave you a +1 to each of your saves. Later you'd need to boost that up to +2, etc. But saves go up automatically, so such an investment is not needed. As for weapon damage, it is limited by item level and cost. Not doing massive damage is not a hindrance at low level as long as you are facing opponents of an appropriate level for the PC level. Classes such as fighter or soldier have proficiencies in more damaging weapons types and in more protective armor types. As you go up in level and get more money (gold pieces or credits) you can purchase more damaging weapons and invest in magic runes and other such things that can be attached to weapons to give bonuses to hit and damage. It's like getting a magic weapon, but the item can be transferred from one weapon to another. Weapon use and armor proficiency also go up periodically (at earlier levels for the more martial classes).

The old AOO has been diminished. It takes a special ability to be able to (now called Reactive Strike). Only fighters get it. There is a version for creatures, but it is rare, so in practice, you can generally not worry about it unless you're fighting a well armed and armored fighter.

The only drawback so far with Starfinder 2E is that they have only introduced six classes. I like the technomancer but still waiting for a supplement to reintroduce it. Also there are some new rules pending for things like hacking. In both Pathfinder and Starfinder, the character creation process is easier to learn and complete, without a need to keep track of things like skill points. You pick an ancestry (old school race). Each ancestry then has some options like heritage and a feat list unique to that ancestry. Then you choose a background, which is similar to the old Starfinder theme, which gives you additional benefits and another feat. These choices give you options for creating your attribute stats (Strength, etc.). These are a series of boosts to the usual six attributes allowing your preferred array without any random elements. Then you select your class, which establishes the rest of the character, with a few more options to make character of the same class distinct. Each stat that has a roll associated with it (saves, attacks, skill checks, etc.) has a level called proficiency. This creates your bonus for each roll. When you level up, certain ones get boosted to the next level of proficiency. All the proficiencies add your level to the bonus, so all bonuses go up by one each level up. The only other level up choices are new feats and for spellcasters, new spells. For those who played either system before the new edition and had issues with it, you might consider another look.
