Johnny has absolutely nothing that would work, not even society. If all else fails, as in his allies don't succeed, he will wait until the students aren't looking and knock out the Merchant with nonlethal damage doing an unarmed attack. I'm assuming the NPC has 1 HP.
hit: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33 This will at least give us time to run away, of course Johnny will attack the Merchant when he is facing away from me, like hitting him in the right spot on the back of the neck therefore he cannot identify his attacker.

How do you know you are in the past in not just on another plane or planet from a teleportation spell? I do want to know some things. Is magic even better in the future? Is there anything out there faster than a cheetah?
