Jin scoffs at the promise of more manual labor but begrudgingly puts his shoulder into more work.

Jin happily holds the rope steady, thankful that he can contribute somehow.

Jin is neither a skilled climber nor a swimmer, so he patiently waits for the party's return on the beach. "Try and find some food."

"Trekking across an island? Just great! Guess the lighthouse it is. Still want to know where the ship is. Try to find some food supplies or something. I don't hunt for my meal." Jin looks down the shore to see if he can find any remains of the wreck.

Jin looks around and quickly casts Prestidigitation on himself, cleaning himself from the sand and seaweed, till he is content with his pristine appearance. He then proceeds to methodically grab the rest of his belongings from the pile. He looks to the other warriors. "I am as fine as can be expected. Well met. I am Jindariel, elven scholar, en route to the Mwangi ruins. Last thing I remember I was in the ship imbibing some rum and food. And now I awaken on a beach?! I ask as well, where is the ship?" He looks to the 5 strangers as well for answers, noticing the beauty of the elven female.

Jindariel looks around, trying to find ship or perhaps some historical landmark.
Knowledge (History): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Round 2:
Jin discards the scorpion crab, stands and picks up his rapier.

Thanks, GM. I got rid of Resilient.

Does Jindariel recall his spells? If so..

Round 1:

Jin's eyes light up, as he sees the danger and his hands light up with electricity, as he attempts to touch the scorpion moving up his leg!

Shocking grasp touch attack: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6

If he does not have his spells, then Jin grabs his rapier from the pile and stabs at the creature with it (apply attack roll).

Checking in!

Great, thanks for the chance to play him again!

Hello, this is Lucendar. I am a frequent poster and GM a couple of PbPs. I would like to submit Jindariel, elven Mwangi scholar and mage (diviner) (sheet in profile). I loved playing him in another Serpent Skull PbP that died way too early (a little past the beach). He's tough (hence Toughness feat) but very brainy (18 Int) and superior, so it's nice to play him that way and see him get cut down to size in game. I really missed playing him so thanks for the opportunity to apply.

1. Why is he aboard the ship?
Jindariel, a native of Kyonin, is aboard the ship on his way to the Mwangi Expanse to research antiquities and in the pursuit of knowledge. He had a dream/premonition that there were unique treasures to be found and he is the one who will find them. He considers himself a protector of history and its artifacts. He gathered all the coin he had and is off to make his mark on the world and hopefully, make new coin, since he is down to his last gp.
2. Future plans for the character
Straight mage (diviner). He's not fond of Enchantment spells so no sleep or color spray. He will attack from range with Jolt or a crossbow, if he finds one (can't afford one to start), and uses Shocking Grasp, if something gets close. Once he meets the others, he will memorize Enlarge Person or pass along scrolls. Has knowledge (history)/arcana/spellcraft.

Jin takes second shift and then rests for 8 hours to regain his spells.

"Fine, we will start first thing tomorrow morn then." Jin returns to camp with the others.

"And Timor, perhaps you can sweet talk the castaways into defending the camp till we get back?"

"I've never been here before, but those line could be roads or more likely, trails. As for freshwater, I doubt it, since they all seem to connect to the sea, but perhaps, we could find a waterfall or something on this tropic isle. Only way to know for sure is to explore and to start with the coast, so we have a reference point to not get lost." Jin asks Pyrra to fill up his waterskin. "We have a couple of hours now, if you're willing, at least to get some clue as to what we face."

Planning to edit the plants?? LOL..edible maybe? ;)

Once we give Jask back his equipment, Jin speaks to the party. "Looks like we'll leave the castaways in the camp to protect it, if they're willing. It's going to fall on us five to explore the island and find help. The lighthouse may be our best option but that's pretty far away. We may have to start with exploring the coastline south. Any ideas?"

Jin takes a drink of the brandy and chats a little with Aerys, if she is willing to divulge her elven parentage and reason for traveling. If not, he wishes her good drinking and moves to Jask. "I recommend we give Jask his gear back. He was convicted fairly or unfairly it appears of corruption, a non-violent crime. If we want his participation in the defense of the camp, he needs to be fully outfitted so he can serve as its medic." If no one stops him, Jin gives him his gear back.

Jin offers Aerys some brandy as he tries to get her to open up to him, using the alcohol to soften her up.

Diplomacy check: 1d20 ⇒ 17

Jin has the darkwood model as well as the coffer. He tosses Aerys the bottle of brandy and stares into the sea. "If there were ever a time to drink or start drinking, now would be the time. I hope this makes us friends now and that you will allow me a drink. So, tell me about yourself?"

LOL! Honest and direct, I like it, GM!

Jin holds the bottle of brandy and studies the woman who asked for it.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17..Does Aerys' desire for the brandy arise from thirst or sentimental value for the bottle?

Jin looks up from his reading. "Looks like the Captain went mad, paranoid, and obsessive on us! He was crazy in love with Ieana and thought that First Mate Devers should be killed in an "accident". It seems it was Ieana's idea to come to Smuggler's Shiv and it was the Captain's idea to drug us to get rid of the crew and keep Ieana to himself. So we have part of the why and how we're here on this isle." Jin then lays out the maps and shows the party/castaways where we are.

Jin helps moving supplies as best he can until he can go no more. Though not used to getting his hands dirty, he was also not used to being stranded on an island, so he could not complain. Drenched in sweat, he takes a dip in the ocean and afterwards, he casts Prestidigitation on himself. He then finds a cool spot in the shade, opens his satchel and starts reading the Captain's log to see if it can provide a clue as to what happened. Next, he studies the nautical charts and tries to find the Shiv on them. While doing so, he looks up at Anika, "We many have the food problem under control, but what are we going to do about getting some fresh water? Other than this bottled brandy I found, there's nothing else to drink."

Jin has the keys and unlocks Jask's manacles once the party and castaways are reunited. "Brehna, can you find us a place in the shade?"

Jin does what he can to follow Timor's suggestions, though he doubts he can pull much up with his normal Strength. If he finds he is struggling, he climbs down and recommends that he and Timor switch places.

Jin grabs the model, the brandy, and the coffer and puts them in his satchel. Then he will lift as much food as his 10 Strength allows him and take 10 to climb up Timor's rope. When he reaches the cliffs, he will look for a safe place for to leave the food for it not to be blown into the sea, if there is one. If not, he will leave it on the beach, return, climb down and repeat until the tide changes.

I believe two - third drawer and footlocker. If you checks are not successful, we can spare 4 minutes, and you can take 20 on both.

Jin looks quizzically at the crowbar but takes it in order to not hurt Brehna's feelings, though he holds it by one end as if he were holding a diseased pig by the tail. When Brehna returns, she sees the crowbar neatly set on top of the desk and Jin waiting for her to pick the lock.

"Hey people, found some stuff, including a sharkskin backpack." Jin puts away, rather obviously, the sea charts and maps and the captain's log in his leather satchel to keep them dry. He then tries the keys on the locked third drawer and the footlocker. If they work, great. If not, he waits for Brehna to come up from her dive and then calls to her loudly, "Brehna, we got some locked drawers over here. Need your skills." Meanwhile, he yells to the rest of the group, "Anyone seen some scroll tubes?"

GM, Jin will take a closer look at the Captain's quarters to see if there is anything of worth. Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

"These supplies will help with building a shelter, right Brehna?"

With -8 penalty to shoot now, Jin holds his magic, confident his new allies can handle the danger.

It counts as 10' but does not provoke unless the sea scorpion has reach. It's when/if she leaves the threatened square that she will provoke.

Jin steps to K12 and shoots more acid, careful not to hit Brehna.

Ranged Touch attack: 1d20 + 3 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 2 - 4 = 7..miss!

Also spells have no range increments. If the target is beyond the range, the spell fails.

GM Idyll wrote:
I should know this, but is the range on Acid splash's range 25'? If that's the case, would the penalty be -3 for the extra distance? Also, what's the penalty for shooting through your teammates?

Correct, range is 25'. However, from the map, I could not tell if Jin has line of sight to it or if it's on a deck below. That's why I posted as soon as it appears, presumably at J8. I stepped to K13 so I should have a clear shot to it since no one is engaging it, but your call.

Jin steps to K13 and unleashes a glob of acid at the creature or as soon as it appears:
Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 2 = 20
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

Jin looks at Anika, "You punch stuff with that spiked gauntlet? Really? No sword or axe? How barbaric! I mean, I can tell you are much stronger than me, but that puts you really close to the danger. I guess some people thrive on that."

Maybe my post confused you. I was teasing them. I think Brehna was posting that she was going up the cliff to then jump down into the boat, while Jin was already at the top of the cliff. We're not splitting up. Next time I will put a smiley face so you know I'm joking. Oh and there is no rope.

While Brehna and Pyrra climb up the cliff for no good reason, Jin jumps carefully down onto the boat to join Anika.

"Anika, be careful, I think there's a sea scorpion also on board! At least that's what it sounded like."

Before jumping, Jin makes sure there is no shark or other predator around.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Jin follows, proceeding slow and carefully, as he does want to fall in the water or injure himself.

Jin smiles, "We're not even a couple of hours from dawn. I think we will have plenty of daylight. Looks like somebody moored a lifeboat to the wreck. Maybe the same person who saved us. Lead on."

"Hmmmm.... Jin's eyes scan the wreckage.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
How dangerous does that climb or fall look, GM? DC? Can we take 10? Jin has no ranks in swim or climb so he might wait on the beach as well, depending on difficulty.

"Sorry to make you uncomfortable, Anika. I'm sure you're right." Jin smiles politely and continues walking. Bah! Revealed my hand too soon. I'll find out who you really are, Anika, in time, if that is even your true name. For now, there are more pressing matters, and as long as you don't put a knife in my back, I could hardly care.

Jin smiles, "While the view is lovely, just noticing certain inconsistencies. My mind will unravel them with time I am sure." He adjusts his view and looks ahead.

Jin has no ranks in K. Local.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Jin speaks, as they walk along the beach, "As I said before, I am a mage. Pyrra, healer, I presume? Ishirou, katana warrior? Anika, no idea as to your skillset. Timor, pompous swordsman, Brehna, your lockpick comment makes me thing a roguish sort with wilderness skills, Gelik, a bard and a quite good one. Jask and Aerys, I have no idea. It would help if we knew each other's skillsets to form a more cohesive unit. History tells us the best fronts in war have always been united."
