Okay I'm in the comic store the other day and see the new Avengers versus Xmen comic. Although I haven't followed either comic line since the mid 90's I figured I'd give it a try. I guess I've mostly lost interest in Marvel characters because of the horrible story lines and having characters do things that seem against there nature. I did dabble in the Civil War but never followed it seriously. I have some questions that I thought maybe you good people could help me with. Who is "Hope" and what happened to Rachel? Is Jean Grey dead again? I thought they were calling Wolverine "James" (which I hated). Now Captain America calls him Logan and he's running the school for gifted students? Thanks!
Have any of you tried a Roku Box and have a strong feeling about it? I am considering picking one up for my home because I feel it maybe a good fix for our household. I haven't read much positive or negative about the Roku Box and hope a couple of you kind posters may have some experience with them.
I have read just about everything GRRM has written, love Abercrombie and Lynch. Have not finished the Wheel of Time since Jordan passed (RIP). Read all the Tolkien and Howard. Dabbled with Fritz Leiber. And I have burned out on all the "Fast food fantasy" dished out by WoTC and TSR (don't get me wrong they have a few gems in those series). I have even visited China Melvile's collection. I'm looking for something gritty and meaty. Suggestions?
I am hopeful that with the new Inquisitor class we can play characters as interesting and exciting as the Inquisitors in Joel Abercrombie's First Law Series. If you haven't tried these books I highly recommend them. Abercrombie is a former RPG table top gamer and his characters are wildly imaginative and different from your standard Dragonlance or Drow-angst ridden-Ranger styled fiction. One such character is a crippled Inquisitor/ Torturer who has 3 minions to do his dirty work. This style of Inquisitor is governmental and not religious. Closer to a police state secret service authority. We all enjoy the Spanish Inquisition styled Religious background character but I think we can push the Inquisitor for Pathfinder further.
I must admit that I love the WoTC Character Builder (I'm shameless). I downloaded the basic version and I find it to be easy to create and keep organized Player Characters. Even if you hate 4E you must admit that it is a great tool! Of course Paizo doesn't have the capital that Wizards does and the creation of such a downloadable tool is a mere fantasy. Wouldn't it be nice to have such a wonderful tool?
So what would you consider the alignments of some of the major characters in the series to be? It is tricky since many of the main characters operate in a moral gray zone constantly. Here are a few of my thoughts. Ned Stark: Lawful Good
I just finished the Hedge Knight graphic novel. If you are a fan of GRRM and the Song of Fire and Ice you will love this tale. It takes place almost 100 years before the events that take place in the novel series. Some of the characters in the graphic novel are briefly mentioned in the novels. Well worth a look see!
I am glad to see people are still interested and playing the Savage Tide Adventure Path. It was my favorite! I suppose it was the flavor of the setting. Maybe the feel of the tropics with the exploration element thrown in? Old school D&D Isle of Dread re-visited? Of course I loved the pirate element... often repeated but not often done well. What is your take on the Savage Tide? What made the AP for you and your crew?
I have noticed that over the spread of 10 or so public forums people often get nasty or post things that they would NEVER say in a face to face conversation. I am not saying that things on the Paizo forums are nasty, honestly they are very good and people seem to play nice. I just wonder what makes someone sit down at computer and take offense to a topic and then type in a response that they would never ever say if a living person was involved in the conversation? I like a good debate but it seems that maturity gets tossed away at the key board. Your thoughts and observations?
Anyone have ideas on where the series is going? This thread will be loaded with spoilers if you have not started the Song of Fire and Ice. My thoughts: Tyrion might not win the race to find Dany but he will gain her as a friend. He might be able to help her take over the 7 Kingdoms. Jon Snow will broker a deal with the Wildings and Stannis. He will discover the real threat is the Others. He will also rally his fathers bannermen. Bran will learn his magic and the children of the forest will make an appearance. Coldhands is his uncle transformed. What do you think?
I picked up the new LXG 1910 title and I must admit, I don't know squat about literary characters from this time period. I vaguely remember a movie about Orlando back in the 90's but beyond that I have no reference point. I found the 1910 title a difficult and chaotic read. But that maybe be my lack of character knowledge. Can anyone help? I also saw a 1950's LXG title (something black?) and wondered if it is worth a look.
So the Hulk has had been doing some crazy stuff of late. When last I followed the Green Giant he was kinda evil/ smart and smashing up the Earth. He was tricked into getting on a rocket and shot into outer space. Now I am not so certain was the story theme is. I paged through a comic a few weeks back and it appeared that Hulk was back to being more of what I remember in the 80's (Stupid and Misunderstood). I also bought 2 issues of Hulk vs. Wolverine and never saw another issue after that! It ended with Hulk ripping Logan in half (of course that isn't his name any more either...).
I followed the Civil War but read just the Civil War comic and none of the spin off or side treks into other comics. I knew that Cap was assassinated. But now I hear of a "New Captain America"? Over heard someone say that the new Cap is Bucky (who died in 1945 on the buzz bomb). Please help me make sense of this...
Any news if Paizo would consider releasing a second (or third, fourth, etc) Handbook with additional classes, feats, equipment, and other goodies? I did a search to see if this topic was covered but found nothing (sorry if it has). I think with the success of the print Beta it might have niche market. Currently my Sunday night group is playing with Pathfinder Beta Rules and having a great time.
It seems I turned my head and "Bam!" all kinds of stuff going on a Paizo and with the new Pathfinder RPG. I have questions that might sound stupid to all of you "In the know/ closing following the RPG fans". Can you help me out with a few questions so I can join the ranks of the cool kids? I know that most of this information is scattered about on various threads but I am so overwhelmed and you are such helpful gamers that I thought I would this new thread. I have down loaded the free pdf version(s)currently available. The final print version comes out in August of 2009? We should see a complete free pdf Beta this August of the book featuring all core rule book classes... Is this correct? The rules are 100% backwards adjusted for 3.0 and 3.5? How tied to the Pathfinder world are the rules? Can my homebrew survive or will major tweaks be needed? So much product I don't know where to start! And it all came out so fast! What is currently available and what is on the horizon! What else did I miss? Thanks!
Awhile back a set of plans for a 3D ship was posted on this forum. It was a link to the Foundry, a fine UK company that does wonderful minis. I book marked the site but neglected to download the plans which were both pdf and jpg. Anyone have a set of those plans that they would be willing to e-mail me?
For those of you who are deep into the STAP or have finished what would you have don't differently if you could start again? For DMs would you have run the Tide the same or made some changes (if so, what would you change?)? If you are a player, how was your vision now as opposed as when you started the game? Would you have played a different character? Hind sight is always 20/20: Your ideas/ experiences may help others. Please share your view points!
Ever shelled out money for what appears to be a great RPG only to get it home and after a close read discover it is unplayable? Or how about hearing the hype on a game only to discover that it wasn't very good? Ever discovered the rule system of a game is too complex to make heads or tails of? What about a game with no back story or limited setting? Please share away so we know what to avoid.
I was impressed with the feedback and statements that Mike made here at
This was also featured on ENworld. The guy hit the mark with his statements IMHO. As a player and DM since 1st Edition I always felt I had a stake in D&D. If some of the people engaged in working on 4E feel that D&D is "Our" game I think 4E might just be a better product. Here's to being hopeful! |
