Jenner shakes the woman's fairly-offered hand with a small nod, then hooks his hands into his belt. "You speak well, Miss Lethanna. Any who are willing to work, and who are not cowed by the dangers so far, are worth their weight in gold, here. Keepin' spirits up with the loss of so many of us recently-- and the knowledge that monsters wore their faces and fooled us-- is perhaps one of the most important things you could be doin'. It seems yeh'd be good at that."

He offers a brittle, tired smile. "Aye. There's tomorrow. Take your bath. Me, I'll be in the forge. And have some of the wild onion soup if they've got some brewing in the square-- it's good for the belly."

When his talk with Primrose is concluded, Jenner makes a weary way back to the forge. He hopes Primrose can find a good night's rest, but he doubts sleep will come to him anytime soon.

So occupied with his own sorrows is the dwarf, he fails to notice a pair of eyes watching from the treeline.

It's been a week. Sorry for a retconned in response to things from ages ago:

Jenner opens his mouth and then shuts it at Tettia's logic regarding the odds that this Primrose is a shapeshifter... He seems to be groping for a counter-argument, then finally just runs a hand still smeared with blood over his face and nods, oh-so-wearily, before turning back to the attempts to assess the damage to the community.

It's hours later before he seeks out Primrose, and at least in that time he has washed and changed. He knocks at the house where various passers-by have said they saw the new woman going, and, if and when she answers, clears his throat and gives the human a somewhat subdued nod.

"Thought we might try starting over, if'n yeh don't mind. It's been... a hell of a few days. Dunno how much you've been told. But we're all in mourning, a bit, and new faces showing up, well.... can't say I was in too trusting a mood, but, 'tis not your fault, Miss Lethanna."

Jenner offers a callused palm in a weary way. "The name's Jenner, though I've been known to answer to Holystone. I patch folks up, or cut 'em open if they seem the bad sort. Yeh've come at a hell of a time but we'll do our best to make yeh feel at home. I wish I could give you news of this brother of yours-- we can check the logs, such as we have, of the first colony's work, but I'll admit, I cannae say I've seen any hint of that name so far."

Jenner watches Aurelian briefly when the other man is punishing himself with grueling battle training, but does not approach the other man. Everyone grieves in their own way.

He spends his time in the forge, beating metal until it warps and is useless and must be cast back into the furances, until sweat rolls down him til he's slick with it and can barely see for the sting.

Jenner headed for Alba's hut as soon as the last monstrosity was slain, in the hopes there might be some clue in the belongings of the thing that had impersonated her. Presumably Finding nothing, he had regrouped with the others, in time to see... of all things... a new face in the colony.

His axe was back in his hand a second later.

"Let me get this bleedin' straight-- Ramona-- sweet Alba-- all the rest of 'em-- are missin' an' likely dead and those shiftin' horrors were playin' at bein' them like how children play at dolls--"

The dwarf IS bloody; he'd made some attempt to wipe the worst of it off but he's missed a lot of spots-- continues with increasing volume.

"....and a new face shows up and you're willin' to just buy she is WHO SHE SAYS SHE IS?" Jenner half-roars. He starts to circle Primrose with a dark glint in his eye.

"Aye, and who's PRIMROSE LETHANNA, then?!"

Welcome to both our new GM and our new player! Delighted to have you both on board.

I also like high-charisma characters, but I have the problem of also liking dwarves. ;________;

I leveled Jenner up and will post his level up later tonight. I took Craft Magic Arms and Armor finally so hopefully this will not be a wasted feat.

"Thass the spirit!" Jenner grins at Aurelian as they tag-team one of the horrors.

Actions contingent on if the one we are flanking is still standing, if not Jenner will move to be in melee of another one. Unclear if the verdict was that my bull's strength was still up.

"Damn! Has anyone got some way of creating water!" Jenner cries as the first fires are thrown. He barrels towards one of the three on Aurelian, trying to come to his aid.

(Has it been less than six minutes since the last fight? If so, my bull's strength is still up. But it might be expired. Move to move, swift to cast ironskin on myself with a fervor use, and std to power attack/furious focus, vital strike, on Yellow)

"Ramona?! Where the HELL is Alba!" Jenner growls as he walks, axe still dripping some ichor. "Aye, lead on, there's more treachery here to cut down today, it's plain to see. God's wounds, if these bastards have killed so many close to us, I'll see the scales balanced with blood before I sheathe this axe again."

Jenner grimly steps forward and tries to cut down another of the shapeshifters. "Yeh are doin' good work there, Ashlyn," he remarks.

Is there even a joke to be made? The punchline's already literally what just happened...

"I'm with ya, Sarine," Jenner growls, a murderous light in his normally placid face. He decides Sarine has the false Alba in hand, and turns to look at Ashlyn with her own foes. "--alright, I'm with Ashlyn."

Shouting a short word of invocation of Abadar, Jenner turns and tears for the nearest of the monsters attacking Ashlyn.

Use of fervor to cast Bull's Strength as a swift, move to move, std to attack with power attack/furious focus, bull's stength, vital strike

Attack one of the ones on Ashlyn: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

Sorry to have been so quiet, hope you don't mind a bit of creative license here GM to explain why Jenner couldn't find Alba until now:

On return to camp Jenner had immediately stopped by Alba's hut to see how she was recovering. He had been relieved to find her not there, as it seemed proof enough that she was back in fine health and therefore 'to normal....'

...imagine therefore his shock and horror on reaching the beach, after being drawn by the screams

"Alba!" he roars-- not because he mistakes the shifting, formless creature for her, but as a wordless threat of vengeance. He doesn't waste time with more words, he just breaks into a run.

Not posting an actual action given it sounds like the baddies are beating me and also I have no idea of distance etc

selling the axe, because seaborne is something i already emulate with aquatic combatant and i can make my axe magical.

Sorry I've been so quiet. Kind of hellish week personally. Going to try to get caught up.

I cannot make anything magical yet due ot not having the feat yet for that.

Jenner claps Sarine on the shoulder. "Well rolled at any rate. Sorry, Desna seemed to have that one sewn for me before the cloth was even cut. I'll spot you a drink for it-- if we ever get a brewery built on this island of ours!"

He settles his hands on his knees, regarding Tettia over the campfire's light. "Ah now, lass, 's a sad fact that not all folk have a grand time of it, 'specially if a partner's less than attentive. Still and all, yeh've said you don't want to talk on it further tonight, so, I should listen to that, shouldn't I? As should we all," he says with a slight flick of his eyes at Aurelian.

"Now, I could show more-- how did you call them? Parlor games! If folk like..." Jenner says with a grin, holding up the dice.

Since Sarine seems amenable, Jenner grins and pulls out a handful of bone dice, well-worn from years of being rolled around on the decks of ships. "Ship, Cap'n, Crew? 's an old classic. It might have land-names as well, but I learned it sailin'."

He beckons Ashlyn closer to watch, and Sarine as well so he can demonstrate.

"Each player get three rolls of the bones. Your goal's to get a six-- that's the ship-- a five-- the skipper-- and a four, the crew. Anything you have left is the cargo, and breaks the tie if all players manage to get ship, cap'n, an' crew. The trick is you've got to take them in order, so, here's a samplin':"

Jenner rolls the five dice into the dirt to demonstrate.

"Ah, see, there's m'ship," he says, nudging the die that's facing the six pips upward with one stubby finger. "And I rolled the five and the four on the first cast-- that's about as good a roll as I could hope for. A pity it's my damn demonstration, ha! Now if I hadn't managed the six on the first go, I couldn't take neither the five nor the four-- you can't take the lower values if you hen't got the higher yet.

"Anyhow, this was a very good cast-- I filled all three of the neces'ries on my first, so I can set them aside." Jenner plucks the 6, 5, and 4 from the pot, and puts them to the side. "That leaves me with the 2 and the 3, for a cargo of 5. I do have two casts left, so I could try an' get a higher cargo, so I will."

Plucking the two remaining dice, he shakes them in hand, and tosses them into the soil.

2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5

"Ah, well, there's something to be said for consistency, hen't there? I'll try my third cast to pick up better cargo."

2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6

"Well! Some change 's better than none. So, that's a successful hand of ship-cap-crew, and a cargo of 6-- a pretty good showing. But alas, that's what it was, just a showing," the dwarf says with a rueful grin. "If you don't get the ship, cap, and crew, you lose regardless. Now then. For our actual stakes of that fine gauntlet...."

Jenner picks up all five of the dice and breathes on them for luck, and lets them roll...

5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 1, 5) = 15

"See! That's a sight worse. I didn't get a ship this time, so I can't go hiring on that skipper or that crew yet. Now my luck's back to usual form. Second cast:"

"Ah! A ship at least. But now I've got to get lucky and get both skipper and crew in my last cast." Setting aside the six, Jenner rolls the remaining dice.

"....I'll be damned," Jenner says with a blink. "Ah, well, there's my captain... my crew... and... ah.... double sixes for cargo."

He grins, somewhat sheepishly, at Sarine, and hands over the dice. "....well... you might match me?"

Jenner makes a nose-scrunched look when Ashlyn points out he's still fairly hurt himself. "Aye, well, that is to say-- yes."

3 CLW on Jenner: 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (6, 8, 8) + 9 = 31 takes me to 43/44. Can live with that

"Ha, yes, well, Abadar can only be in so many places at once as well, patching your hide up," Jenner says with a crooked grin at the swordsman. "--ah, thank you Ashlyn, that's a sight better.

"I agree, we ought make a camp, keep our eyes out for trouble."

Jenner busies himself laying out something like an organized camp despite the less than ideal circumstances, and listens with some amusement to Tettia's inquiries of Aurelian. For himself, once the camp is sorted, he undoes the braids in his beard, untying the various little favors and the wooden key, and carefully combs out both his beard and hair with scrupulous thoroughness, then takes the time to rebraid each bit again, in the same pattern it had previously settled into.

"I'll have a lot to add in this batch of letters to the family," he says, to nobody in particular. "Watery beasts, the unquiet dead... visions of Earthfall itself."

"Damnation!" Jenner yelps again as he catches enough fire to again sear past his protections. He hurriedly puts his beard out before it can smolder too badly.

"....gnhhh. This wasn't the best of days, my friends..."

Align Weapon becomes cure mod on Sarine: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (5, 2) + 5 = 12

Is this the same day as the fight with the Chuul? If so, I'm now out of spells. If we had a day's rest (the thread just says a 'long journey', but not sure), then I have an ironskin that can become a cure mod on Aurelian, but it's my last spell; I wiped out an awful lot of spells healing us after the rockfall/cataclysm thing.

Potential cure mod on Aurelian???: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 1) + 5 = 12

I took 20 damage that fight even with my resist fire up, so I'm now at 12/44. We may need to rest before we go any further, for sure.

"Ow," Jenner says, with some curses appended, as the fire burns hot enough to scorch through his protections. "Bloody dammit."

He tries to sidestep to join Sarine, and hacks again.

....okay, that's more like the rolls I'm used to for Jenner.

But incorporeal like normal shadows? That'd be very relevant for Jenner to know. If that's not meta-gaming, then he'll swift action to make his axe magical via sacred weapon. Also, can you confirm whether or not my bonus applied regarding the save-- I know you said haunt, but sometimes haunts are using or duplicating spells or spell likes, so I need to know to have my HP listed correctly

I'm a little confused, was something about the rockfall illusory? If so, was there a will save needed?

It's a standard to maintain the grapple, a move action to shift to the tentacles, meaning there'd be no actions left to have clawed at me-- it missed, and it's dead, so it doesn't matter per se... :P But just for clarification.

The problem with positive energy whacking is that my channels, and the cures available to us at this level, do not do that much at a go. A haunt of our level's appropriate CR -- or higher, if we're off in the land of 'you weren't supposed to tackle this level yet'-- is going to have more than enough HP that we're not going to manage to kill it before its actual effects trigger. (I hate haunts~) Even my channels might have to be in the water to be effective, since water will block line of effect. And I already failed my knowledge check to ID it as a haunt so I'm not getting a chance to act in the triggering round, anyway; as far as I know the only other person who can throw positive energy at it is Ashlyn.

Jenner scowls at the water, not liking the fact that they're dealing with critters intelligent enough to stay in it. "Well, they damn well aren't mindless zombies," he points out. "I don't care to wade in after them-- who knows what sorta ambush they might be clever enough to rig? If they're gonna stay tight in the water mayhap we can mark the spot, come back when we've got a decent plan?"

If we have more folk working in the area here in months to come, which we hope to, then even if the water were left strictly alone we'd have them to tussle with eventually. They'd come round sniffing. If there's any even still here," he adds on optimistically. "But if Elizar can give us a look-see I'm not opposed."

After the first prayer he says over Ashlyn is not incredibly successful, Jenner asks if she wants him to try again... or focus on her 'friend.' Just one way with more sighing.

Over the night's rest, Jenner will beseech Abadar for the ability to do something about Sarine's weakened condition...

Prepping a lesser resto to toss on Sarine:

1d4 ⇒ 4 Woo! So you should be healed 5 ability damage, Sarine, what with the night's rest. Jenner had a lot of unused spells after that first day so with GM permission those were all sacked into cures and everyone should be full on HP when we return

Also on the return journey, Jenner tries to talk to the maimed cyclops, though with the poor wretch's near-broken mind, the going is arduous. Jenner settles for merely spending time near Aeroclyse, usually, speaking in a calm and steady tone of voice of nothing in particular-- commenting on the warmth of the sun, the sound of the birds or the water-- and occasionally pressing a piece of jerky into the cyclops's hands. In short he treats him much like a wounded animal that he is slowly trying to put at ease; if nothing else, Jenner does not lack patience.

Once back at the camp, after reports have been given, Jenner beelines to check on Alba. "Ma'am? How are you feelin', now? Any better?" he asks anxiously whilst knocking on the door.
