He was called a "boy" at least once, here:

Hard to notice casually, but the young man could in fact be part Zeltronian, he turns to the Captain, "Captain, well met, I do hope you buy some spiced wine. Might you have space aboard your vessel for two passangers?"

The boy then addresses the codru-ji directly, extending his arms, his palms facing upward. The bracers revealed on both of his forearms displayed ornate engravings, yet the Mandolorian noticed instantly: these bracers were constructed of phrik. He didn't understand the writing, he couldn't interpret the images, but he knew what it would take to craft them. The boy spoke.

"Briik'se gar t'ad, ner ad'ika gar ner riduur. Ibac ad'ika ni cuyan; t'ad'ike ni cuyan te jate'kara. Haalasir ner?

And "young" features in almost every description. I may be over-reading it.

Over read maybe, but also maybe understandable.

Meant to convery dubious adulthood.
Luke-like.
At the opening of A New Hope, while I think it's fair to believe Luke is in his majority officially (like just having turned 18 or something), you couldn't convince me that it had been long; he was that kid who had wanted to enlist the day he turn 17.5 years old.

So when I said boy, it meant teenager, not child podracer ;)

Child is an interesting term ... don't see that but maybe I missed it?

Lionel, and a few droids, were carting the wine to the ship. "Yes, that will be enough," he says. "Enough for a two month journey."

With a grin, the young nobleman says, "One hopes."
Looking over at the Kel Dor, he responds, "So can my brother & I."

EltonJ wrote:

Lionel was still negotiating with the port authority. "Yes, I'd like to buy some wine for my new friends here," he pointed to Amidala and Skirata. "Just enough to get us to the other system."

"That will cost three hundred credits," says the representative.

Lionel said, "Done. Three hundred credits."

"Here's the thing, and this is meant to be a gigantic compliment, because for sure you do not have the look about you, but wow, you have GOT to have attended finishing school on Naboo or something. Wow!"

The young man is literally shaking his head from side to side

"That was absolutely the most backhanded acceptance I have ever received in my not that long life, and while I feel like I have done my time, especially on Naboo, that was really something. My thanks ... our thanks actually." He gestures towards the Mandolorian.

Bes'rk slowly nods at the boy, not having expect to encounter anyone here fluent in his people's tongue. Nor one so young, and unarmored. "Gar taldin ni jaonyc; gar sa buir, ori'wadaas'la*, as they say." Turning to the captain, he says "Have need of a few more guns while you're stocking up?" he asks, two of his hands going unconsciously to his blaster carbines.** spoiler omitted **

The DH-17s holstered at the hip of the young noble were in pristine condition; if they'd been fired, ever, it would be hard to tell. On close inspection ... it would still be very hard to tell.

"I have my guns, my hands, and my name to bring with me, the best of those possibly being my name. I would travel with you if you'd have me, and I'll pay my passage if I can't help out."

DMd the translator to you. It's really only appropriate because the request was formal ... I'm sure they'll speak Basic under most circumstances.

I think the odds of the Captain or the Mando knowing/noticing that the writings on the bracers are in Coremaic are pretty slim ... but if our GM wants that to happen, I am all for it.

I’ve been waiting. Didn’t seem his style to stick his nose in someone else’s business. He only does that when he’s paid to.

Does Bes'rk speak Mandalorian?

Been working on getting the Mandalorian to join the crew too.

We could certainly have the young noble hire the mando as a bodyguard, and then ask for passage on the ship ... if it's a fast ship, and no questions asked.

Good kitty, good kitty!

Honestly, he couldn’t remember a better nerf burger. The Ardees tasted amazing too, smooth with just the right bite to it. Smooth, quenching sure, but there was more, elusive, something about being off Naboo maybe. Or somewhere different maybe. Or the side order of freedom that seemed like ordering dessert before your meal.

Who knew, maybe the Force tasted good.
Maybe the Force tasted like chicken …

At the moment though, that taste seemed to be coming from the landing platform outside. Palpably. Like almost overshadowing what brought him here; almost stronger than his grandfather’s saber. Truth be told, or as it “be told” to him anyway, great great grandfather, but hey, what’s a generation right? He held his great great great great grandmother’s last name, and that came with all-you-can eat, an amazing fireplace, and islands to swim to.

The tab billed to his suite directly, best to wander outside now, like that was what people do. People, not Wardens, people. He could be a person. He hadn’t trained much being a person, but he could do it. There is no try.

Red 5 ... standing by!

The funny thing is, you keep doubling down proving my point. Somehow, my post, which doesn't have a single number in it, prompted you to generate an entire WALL of text to be "helpful" ... where absolutely no help was needed or requested. Nothing was "missed" at all. There was nothing I needed to "find out" twelve hours later.

I didn't configure a ship, I very BRIEFLY presented an idea.
That was all.
I didn't expound and expand and self-congratulate.
I didn't pat myself on the back (again) for a glorious backstory.

I get that you're here to tell the story you want to tell and aren't really interested in waiting for the process to unfold or the campaign to start, but not everyone is here to railroad a concept.

I so totally completely do NOT care about any of this. At this point, my concern centers around the disturbing obsession you have with what is basically a non-campaign at this point. You are the ONLY person inundating this thread with unsolicited content. Earlier today there was actual consensus to leave off the team building activities until after the team was selected: you have chosen to ignore that for some reason.

Maybe instead of telling other people to "read the room" you should actually enter the room and look around.

I'm sure Zagulo meant to say the DESIGN of the ship is 4000 years old which it is; but the entry in Starships of the Galaxy doesn't have this archaic template on it, and actually doesn't even indicate that the little factory which produces these ships has stopped doing so.

Fair point though; no sense counting credits that can't be contributed.

If Teren is selected, he'll begin with his ship.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I decided that what would be easier for me is to "be the change that I want to see ... in the campaign" because with all the love that I have in my heart, I just can't vibe with the kinda left field Sabacc Losses Casino Ship Karma Management proposal that no one is enfranchised in from either a monetary or a story perspective (other than the lost credits overlayed on their backstory). I want to propose something whch starts as Teren's, and he offers to the team as a hope, a home, and a haven for people like them.

Teren's mentor, Cobalt, a Warden of the Sky, will have been working very hard whilst Teren was training and growing up, investing and working to give him a ship, at which time Cobalt himself needed to return to space for reasons he didn't really share with Teren. The ship is a beautifully appointed Dynamic-class Freighter, with seriously advanced luxury upgrades, and Area 7 completely converted into an expansive owner's suite. The dormitories have privacy capsules for relaxation and study. The ships common room is stunning.

Cobalt's only charge (to his charge) was to offer safety to those who might need it; not really any different than Teren is sworn to do as a Warden, but with a little more behind it. As Teren meets others, he offers them a place as crewmates, and also shares his vision from the past, a ship he knew of called Ghost, where Jedi training took place during and after the Clone Wars, in direct defiance of the Empire. He hopes that others will want to contribute to creating that kind of place aboard the Centurion Falcon, so that no one Force Sensitive will ever need to fear persecution again.

Thanks, Evindyl. As for consensus, you just need to look at the list of players who 'chipped' in towards Calypso's ship:

Calypso Calrissian: 30,000 credits
Vren Suurgav (Saashaa): probably 20,000 credits
Zagulo Maresh (Phntm888): 14,000 credits
Ni't Shonai (Seth): 11,000 credits
Bes'rk Skirata (Ouachitonian): 10,000 credits
Kaltor Jaan (Hack Anslash): 10,000 credits

Hold on now. I am fine with contributing to a party ship in the abstract, but you made all the specific choices. I wouldn't call it consensus when one person made all the decisions about what form a party ship would take.

Thank you. I thought I was pretty clear. Consensus. Dialog. There was none.

Because the reality is that we really could all be a bunch of noble brats starting with 60k. Which I am totally reworking my character around. I am SO ready to fly the Centurion Falcon!

LOL I'm not opposed to that at all; but the ship discussion is based on vastly more wealth than a 5th level character would have either, so part of me just wants to make sure we're doing the right thing with it.

Apologies in advance, but aren't we trying to target for TOO MUCH at level 3? At this level we're supposed to be quite young, beginners. I have a feeling we may be trying to accommodate what a well established hero would have many levels and years from now, rather than trying to understand what a level 3 character should be and have. Elton was extremely generous with the credits, of course, but maybe... Shouldn't we dial down a little bit? I understand the will to live the fantasy, but being a beginner in the career, can't we "dream" to own this kind of ship and equipment some years/levels from now?

This is very well and gently stated; I cannot say that I would have done any better ... but I was planning on bringing up some agency and direction thoughts also. I think we're lucky to have someone as engaged as Drake who wanted to do the dirty bits of config, but I'm not seeing the concensus or direction setting dialog.

To LAPYD's point, I think it is far more likely that these folks would be traveling around in an older noble's cast off yacht or something, than the "Rocinante" that seems to be shaping up.

I say all this because the numbers are what the numbers are, and I'm really happy to see them all, so part of me is wondering why we don't just ask Elton for the characters to all be aboard a ship that we all want to be aboard, with a captain who is beholden to everyone for whatever reason ... AND with an operating fund that will pay for ship expenses for quite a few years.

Made my changes. Also swapped his armor to Clonetrooper Armor (his clan once took in some renegade clones, and he dragged it out of storage and repainted it. One day he hopes to get real beskar'gam like a proper Mandalorian veteran. I did pay for it out of starting credits, to be clear, just giving his in-universe rational for having it.) Ditched the heavy rifle for a pair of carbines. Ended up with more spare credits, but I'll hang onto those to buy consumables, maybe pick up some grenades. Or a used speeder.
Nice. I'd buy consumables, though. You need to eat, remember?

and a couple luxurious meals cost as much as a jetpack ... 3 will get you a speeder. No wonder everyone in Star Wars looks hungry.

Lord Teren is from Naboo ... he grew up "at his family's lake house." Cobalt, a venerable Warden of the Sky, trained him until recently making sure his sensitivity to the Force didn't overwhelm him. Now Teren searches for him, unsure why he felt compelled to leave.
