Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky would take one of each potion, A belt of CON, and an amulet of natural armor. In addition if there are any left over he'd nab a ring of protection as well... He's greedy about magic items like that.

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky watches the others greedily grab up items, then takes his time, and re-inspects everything after all the amateurs through with them.

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27 Spellcraft

Wow we've got a lot of identifiers in this group. We really are interested in loot... J'Larky would be happy with any of the items except for the flaming greataxes... but he'd even take one of those as loot.

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky also hurries to the Magic shop, already thinking about the goodies he might find there.

Elf Arcanist 4

"You can help by telling us where we can find some loot. So far all we have is what we came with, minus a bit of blood. What say we give a look around at the rest of the place frænds".

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky still searching for clues, and wracking his head for answers approaches the conversation.

"Well I'll be Loki's handmaiden if I can figure out what caused this blast". Then turning to the old man, and pregnant woman. "How is it that your little group was unharmed by the blast, when it seems everything else in the town was destroyed"?

J'Larky concentrates his detect magic on the small group.

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky joins back up with the others.

"This was a gigantic magical blast... but I can't imagine what could cause such a thing. It is beyond my learning".

Elf Arcanist 4

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17 Spellcraft or Knowledge: Arcane

J'Larky catches up to the rest, and is fascinated by what just happened... So much fire, so much flame, and a flaming giant...

He will cast Detect Magic as needed as he explores the city with the others. "Might as well start at the tavern I guess... though we'll need to explore the rest of the area as well, so maybe that should be our last stop".

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18 Perception

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky scans the situation trying to make sense of things, and looking for a new target.

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky moves up another 30' and picks out a new target, again trying to take partial cover if available before stopping.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 MW Composite Longbow
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 Arrow, Piercing

I too am a bit confused by the scene, but will keep moving :-)

Elf Arcanist 4

Knowing that his magic might be more useful later, J'Larky closes a bit, and lets fly with an arrow.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 MW Composite LB.

1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Arrow

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky continues to follow the group, but as his life is in no immediate danger, he sees no reason to run. As he gets closer he uses Ghost sound to distract the enemy, and telekinetic Fist a couple of times to distract those same soldiers from making telling blows.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 Telekinetic Fist
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 Telekinetic Fist.

I'm sure those with their blood up, will miss treasure and plunder along the way.

Elf Arcanist 4

Between Paizo's downtime, and extensive travel I've been remiss in posting. I promise it will pick up and stabilize.

Round 1 Cast Mage Armor
Round 2 Cast Burning Gaze
Round 3 Continue burning

I will spend an arcane pool point to raise the DC on the Save by +1

Burning Gaze

Spoiler:

Burning Gaze
School evocation [fire]; Level bloodrager 2, druid 2, magus 2, sorcerer/wizard 2, witch 2

CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M/DF (eye of a mundane salamander)

EFFECT
Range personal
Targets you
Duration 1 round/level
Saving Throw Fortitude negates (see text); Spell Resistance yes

DESCRIPTION
Your eyes burn like hot coals, allowing you to set objects or foes alight with a glance.

As a standard action as long as this spell's effects persist, you may direct your burning gaze against a single creature or object within 30 feet of your location. Targeted creatures must succeed at a Fortitude save or take 1d6 points of fire damage. Unattended objects do not get a save. Creatures damaged by the spell must make a Reflex save or catch fire.

Each round, burning creatures may attempt a Reflex save to quench the flames; failure results in another 1d6 points of fire damage. Flammable items worn by a creature must also save or take the same damage as the creature. If a creature or object is already on fire, it suffers no additional effects from burning gaze.

Note that this spell does not grant an actual gaze attack- foes and allies are not in danger of catching on fire simply by meeting your gaze.

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky will take a quiet seat near the rear of the boat, next to whoever looks big and strong to do most of the work. He'll be seated without a word, and await to see what happens.

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky tries to find a place out of the way for his slender body to spend time alone. He rolls his eyes at the blustering of the remainder of the crew. They speak loudly, let's see how they perform when the blood is flowing.

Elf Arcanist 4

GM... Would you mind putting at least a dot or something in the gameplay thread, so I don't have to go searching for this thread to see updates??? Thanks in advance.

J'Larky doesn't really mix with the crew. He does his part when it's time, and keeps to himself most of the rest of the time. It's not that he doesn't like the others, or is bad company, he is just busy most of the time imagining his visions of grandeur, and how he will flaunt his success in the face of those who doubt him. If someone approaches him he will speak and be friendly enough, though often his lack of knowledge about the world shows through. He is constantly evaluating where those around him could fit into his ever developing master plan.

I swear I'll finish up, and get equipment purchased and details finilized sometime before tomorrow.

<Hey BD>

OK a few more notes. J'Larky ended up not fitting in real well no matter where he traveled. Maybe this ship, and it's journeys would bring him closer to what he is seeking... Knowledge... adventure... fortune... and acceptance (Not to mention a good dose of "I told you so".)

He is fresh out of the forest, but holds no contempt or superiority to other races or cultures. Anything to help him get ahead. He is just a bit Naive, but very smart.

Still have to finilize and shop, but mainly done.

Here are some background notes on my Elven Arcanist (Transmuter): I'll write up a complete background as time allows.

  • Grew up in a small isolated elven community
  • He and all his close friends growing up wanted to be Druids or rangers
  • At the onset of his training years, the career tests slated him to be trained in the arcane arts instead.
  • As his friends teased and taunted him, he became sullen and withdrawn
  • After the first two years of training he was asked to pick a career. It was obvious... Transmutation.
  • If he couldn't count on the forces of nature to give him beast form, he would force them to do so.
  • He threw himself into his studies, and became an accomplished if unpopular star student.
  • His drive isolated him from his childhood friends, and his short temper, and lack of interest in social skills kept him from making new ones.
  • Finally he was given his freedom to leave the school as a graduate. Some say it's because of his accomplishments, some they were ready to be rid of him.
  • While part of an extended patrol, early in his career, something terrible happened. He came stumbling back into the village naked, and was the only one to survive the patrol. He can't remember what happened, nor was any sign of the patrol ever found.
  • This taught him that he must learn to work with others better, and that a team could succeed where an individual might fail.
  • Though his village did not hold him responsible for the loss of the patrol, he could sense a resentment under the surface. It was time to leave his isolated existence and see what else the world had to offer.
  • He would return someday however, and show his friends how to really take on the form of a beast... or whatever he wanted.

Instead of making a new profile, I'm resurecting an old one. I'll change the picture, and attached profile as soon as I finish the crunch.

Elf Arcanist 4

"How about this...Stump...place you mentioned". "It's got to be better than this place"

Elf Arcanist 4

"Sure". "I could stand to freshen up a bit".

1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25 Sense Motive

"And whom might you be", J'Larky asks addressing the new arrival.

Rasina turns to look at the newcomer, and responds with a note of aspersion, "Yes, I know it is a giant, but generally giants don't walk into well fortified towns, and start to slay things wantonly. They would be banded together, at least half a dozen, if this was a typical raid."

"My name is Rasina, by the way." She turns her attention to Mikka, who is busy examining the giant corpse. "Have you found anything yet?"

"Pardon me lady". "Did not mean to offend you...but this place is hardly well fortified, and things don't work here is the desolation like they might elsewhere". "But let's don't get off on the wrong foot". "I have a feeling we're all on the same side".

"I am called J'Larky...humble servant of The Dawn Flower".

Elf Arcanist 4

Wow. Just realized that I hadn't posted J'Larky's background. I know I wrote it and thought I posted it, but don't see it. I'll have to find it and post it again. It's on my desktop at home, so probably be tomorrow.

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky approached the talking group, eying them carefully as he approaches the corpse of the fallen giant. He takes a moment to kick at the corpse seeing if anything is unusual about it.

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28 Perception
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 Heal check.

He silently finishes his inspection then turns and sternly faces the gathered party.

"Well"! "I suppose that went as well as could be expected under the circumstances". "What in the gods names did you do to provoke that creature to attack you so vehemently"?

"Still...I guess explanations can wait till the wounded are healed". "Here son let me take a look at those wounds...Hmm that's going to leave a nasty bruise".

J'Larky begins to treat Orphax's wounds, calling upon the serene power of Sarenrae to shine down and knit his wounds.

4d8 + 7 ⇒ (7, 5, 6, 5) + 7 = 30 Cure Critical (Converted from Holy Smite)

"I am called J'Larky". "The wisdom of Sarenrae brought me to this forsaken place...and not a moment too soon I see".

1d20 + 19 ⇒ (12) + 19 = 31 Diplomacy (To disarm any onlookers who might have ideas of taking advantage of the party's distracted state)

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky continuing to hustle, attempts to get close enough to the combatants to selectively channel.

Channel Positive Energy (4d6=17)

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky moving closer calls upon the light of Sarenrae, and sends three beams of light at the marauding beast.

Ranged Touch - Searing Light (1d20+5=6)

And not taking the time to correctly fasten his drawer they fall about his knees, causing the beams to shoot harmlessly into the air.

Elf Arcanist 4

If there is room to get off a fireball before the giant closes with the rest of the party, J'Larky will do so. If not he casts Shield of Faith, and continues to close...keeping at least 15-20 feet away from the giant.

Fireball (7d6=26)

Elf Arcanist 4

1d20 ⇒ 7 Initiative

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky had been walking forever it seemed. He had been called to this place, something in his prayers led him to this desolate area, but he was having trouble wondering why. There was nothing out here, what possible use could his god have for this place.

Then he smelled the camp...before the smoke of the fires came into view, he smelled the camp. As he approached his stomach which had been vexing him for the past few days required his attention. Just outside the city proper he stopped to take care the call of nature behind some scrubs. Just as he was finishing re-strapping his armor, he heard a loud noise coming down the trail towards the camp. Peaking out from the shrubs he saw a giant hustling down the trail. Covered in blood and swinging a giant spiked club the Giant bellowed in rage seemingly intent upon wreaking havoc in the settlement.

This will not do, J'Larky thought to himself, and followed hot on the giant's heels. Maybe this is why I was called here

Elf Arcanist 4

J'Larky awaits with the power of goodness and light infusing him body and soul.

Elf Arcanist 4

J'larky is ready, but sad at the loss of his brother.

Elf Arcanist 4

First post under the new character name. I think the character is done, just travelling this week, and will have to wait till the weekend to write up my marvelous history...

Okay, so far we have

Rasina (Rogue/Sorcerer) - Eric
Mikka (Druid) - Marc
Kun-Sun Min (Wizard) - Kratzee
X (cleric) - Scranford

That's four characters. With Doomed and his friends that's seven and G. would make it eight. That's as high number of players as I am willing to take for this game.

Those who are not familiar with Slumbering Tsar - this game is more deadlier even than Midnight.

Oh believe me. I know first hand. I plan on healing myself every half hour just be sure. ;-)

Here is the preliminary work on the character
