I recently discovered this awesome thing. LitRPG books!
It's written from a PLAYER perspective who's playing the game (usually in virtual reality, like Ready Player One) - gain levels, fight MOBs, crafting etc - everything that's awesome about RPG.
I've stumbled across this book which was excellent "Life Reset" @ http://goo.gl/H6sjzo
But there's much more like it!
I've actually reduced the amount of PC-game time to read them!
For my campaign, Hobgoblin will reproduce with Goblins.
What would be the result?
1) name for this new race (half goblin? hob-gob-goblin?)
2) appearance?
3) traits?
Thanks!
something courageous sounding, maybe a bit dark - but not overly evil sounding name.
something inspiring.
Idea?
Hi,
in our campaing, I'm allowed to select ANY creature as a personal familiar (it's basically reformed from a blob of mana)
the only limitation is it can be up to medium size.
So, I need ideas for an original familiar pet
please, no dragons - it's boring.
suggestions? let your imagination go wild!
specifically,
the group of adventurers went to Hell, and encountered a Bearded devil who uses the spell 'Unholy blight' against them.
the spell should cause more damage to Outsiders - now since the adventurer our not in their native plane, do I treat them as outsiders for the spell purpose?

the magical book contains (among others) the 'Animate dead' spell - which has the 'Evil' descriptor.
1. does the book as a magic item is conisdered evil?
2. does using the book to create the golem is evil (note: the golem is N).
A normal wizard level 5 with 16 intelligence have a concentration bonus of 5+3 = 8
what happens when the same wizard has 2 cleric levels - and his wisdom is 14?
do we calculate the classes separatly or do they stack?
I mean, for a 7th level caster, to cast a cleric spell as level 2, a concentration bonus of +4 seems kinda low.
shouldn't the experience as a mid level character who specialize in magic be stacked - levels wise.
the bonus from high attribute for the check would still be intelligence for wizard spells, and wisdom for cleric spell.
so for wizard the bonus would be 7+3 = 10
and for cleric: 7+2 = 9
WDYT?
The DM approved me to use the Leadership skill to acquire a cohort from the monster listings - to be kind like an animal companion or familiar (without the bond abilities).
I need advice on which monster can qualify for me needs:
1. low level (maximum CR 4-5)
2. tiny size - or lower.
2. can fly
3. has good knowledge skills.
4. has some magical utility abilities (not necessarily for combat).
I need to find some monster who's fairly close to those requirements, and the DM might allow me to do some extra small modification to it.
thanks!

it's not exactly pure Pathfinder rules, but it's pretty close, and I'd like to discuss how it synergize with the PF system:
so, let's assume an undead mob (swarm) - based on 3.5 edition rules, which are:
- made up from ~48+ individual zombies.
- about 200-300 HP
- take +50% damage from AoE attacks
- will save of swarm is high: +17
- CR 8-9
Now, when it comes to fireball etc it's very simply, a fireball that does 30 dmg normally, would cause 45 damage to the swarm. same goes for splash damage, and other AoE spells.
My question is - how does 'Channel Energy' computes into this?
1. by the basic un-PF rules, as an AoE power, it would simply do +50% damage.
2. however, the spell basically damage every specific undead in it's radius, so a good roll of 12+ damage (each zombie has ~12 HP only), could effectively destroy the CR9 swarm with a single strike - which is too powerful.
3. 'channel energy' targets are entitled to a will save, the swarm has an excellent save, but again, the ability target individuals - which has low save...
so that's my problem, how do I handle the Channel Energy of the cleric under those assumption - without making it tool of massive destruction and without nerfing it?
thanks!
EDITED:
p.s. I couldn't find official PF undead-mob template - if anyone knows one - I'd appreciate a link.
as the question - if a character with a shocking whip attempt to trip an opponent - and succeed :
does the opponent receive the shock damage as a byproduct of the trip (as it does touch the opponent)?
or not at all?
would it matter if the opponent is equipped with metal armor?
A read a little about gods, lesser, greater, their abilities etc.
it's written that gods can create various special magical items - but that it also have it's cost requirement!?
I mean does a god have to physically have 500,000 gold pieces, or so, to create some sort of greater magic item?
and let's say that he does - he's A GOD - can't he simply create some, or otherwise, use his godly senses to sense a gold deposit and retrieve it - or better yet - go to a plane where gold is as common as dirt, etc...
And if after all these, the conclusion is that he still need the gold, how does he suppose to get it?
does it 'being sacrificed' for him by his follower?
from:
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-armor/specific-magic-armor/bonele ss-leather
The price seems waaaay to low for something this powerful....
the damage reduction itself, I think should cost like 10k gp...
how did they calculated the market price?
as far as I know:
- +1 enhancement bonus: 1000gp
- +5 Escape artist skill: 2500
- +5 Acrobatic Skill: 2500
- +5 CMD: ?
- DR 5: ?
and don't forget that multiple enhancements on the same item should cost +50 for each extra enhancement (which I didn't include above).
So,
we have 2 mounted fighters on horses, charging each other with lances.
outcome can be: miss, hit and damage, hit and no damage, hit and unhourse.
how would you handle it with the game rules?
there would be need to be some sort of ride check, I'm sure, and attack... but how exactly ?
I think a 3rd level warrior with with +10 to ride, should win against a 10th level fighter with no ranks in ride...
how would you accomplish that?
Hi in "the book of divine magic" described the following magical property to add to armor:
Retribution: Three times per day, the wearer of a
suit of armor with this ability can cause the next
creature who hits them and causes damage – whether
by physical or magical attack – to take an equal
number of points of damage of the same type.
Faint necromancy; CL 3rd; Craft Magic Arms and
Armor, retribution; Price +6,500 gp.
My questions are:
1. does using this effect is an immidiate action at the moment the wearer recieve damage?
2. are we talking ANY kind of damage? does AoE spells count? ('hits' is a problematic word...)
thanks!
Hi,
I had one of my players grapple by about 10 formians, and on their next round I've done 1 grapple check for all of them (as written by RAW), and then made ALL of them apply their damage 1d6+4 - in total of 10d6+40
the rules are not specific enough to say if it's allowed or not...
it seems to me reasonable, that if someone is swarmed under a lot of big insectiod, it stands to reason that they slowly rend him to pieces, instead of 9 of them just 'holding him down' and only 1 Formian does the actuall damage.
in any case, it was a GREAT way to finally deafet the undefeated 8th level cleric tank - otherwise he would have won (because the Formian can only hit him on a natural 20 roll).
At v3.5 we had the flying-brain monster creatre - Grell
any conversion of it exists in Pathfinder?
even fan made link would be nice.
thanks!
remember it?
he was the big, 6 legged, Panther like creature that tried to eat the hero at the beginning of the movie, and the served him as a horse?
I reckon it will be a great monster to use in D&D.
I'd say it's size Huge,
with special 6 leggs attack (rend?)
and very dangerous (CR 10-15)
anyone up for the challenge, i'd be interested to see your interpretations to how it should look as a monster.
Image: http://community.spore.com/static/image/500/516/088/500516088695_lrg.png
suppose a Rogue throws an Alchemist Fire vial on an enemy from 20 feet away,
and the opponent would qualify for a normal sneak attack.
would the extra damage from Sneak attack applies?
The Psicrystal stealth score is calculated wrong IMO in the beastiary - (assuming level 1 Psion master).
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/psionics-unleashed/psionic-bestiary/psycrystal
in there it's stated that the Psicrystal has score of 6.
however, from the size modifier alone (tiny) it should be 8.
So the total should be: race modifier 4 + dex 2 + size 8 = 14.
My question is, does stealth considered a class skill for the Psicrystal, and so it suppose to receive extra 3 point for level 1, making his total stealth score 17 ?
It might seems a lot, but this score never changes, even at very high level the stealth score will stay the same (unless the master invested ranks in stealth himself).
Can a Psion use a 1 handed weapon & a shield and still activate his powers?
I see nothing in the rules against that - and it sounds reasonable, since a cleric can do it.
Although RP wise, it seems wrong....
(Assume the Psion has the required proficiency).
anyone knows of such a magic item that's define in RAW ?

one of the player sin my party has suddenly discovered the many different types of bonus: profane, resistance, alchemical, morale etc.
he tries to takes advantage of this by ordering the creation of magic items with only +1 AC bonus, of the veriouse types.
this generally cost 2,500gp per +1, which is much cheaper then taking an already +1 item and upgrading it to +2.
so theoretical, he can order the creation of 10 items with different +1 bonus types, and receive that extra +10 to AC, at relatively very low cost.
now, I prefer to stick by the rules, and to not decree that he can't use those bonus types.
but I do remeber somthing about enchantment location on the body - something like that bracers are used for dex & strength bonuses, while intelligence used on crowns, boots for dodge AC bonus, etc - and that any other 'not standard' location for the magical type cost extra.
I looked for that rules but couldn't find it...
anyone knows were is it written?
or have any oder idea how to prevent this form of abuse from the player ?
thanks.
according to the hardens calculation rules:
"Hardness: Add +2 for each +1 enhancement bonus of magic items."
so what happen when I have a Holy shortsword +1
the 'Holy' property worth +2 enchantment bonus.
so do I treat the weapon as +1, +2 or +3 for the purpose of calculating it's hardness?
Under the Remorhaz monster entry, it's heat ability also reads:
"...any weapon that strikes a remorhaz is allowed a DC 19 Fortitude save to avoid taking damage..."
according to this every weapon is entitled to a save, however only magical weapons have a save score...
so:
1. does it uses it's wielder fortitude save? seems kinda off...
2. if it uses only the weapon save score - what's the bonus for non magic weapons ?
3. in 3.5e any held item used it's wielder save score no ? seems kinda weird for fortitude save though... reflex is more understandable.

Hi,
the rouge in my party has Hide in Plain sight (as a Shadowdancer), he just taken the feat Spring Attack, and he invested heavily in acrobatics:
right now he's favorite tactic is to approach an enemy while hiding, sneak attack it once, continue his move action to get a way from the enemy - using acrobatics to avoid attack of opportunity - and while moving using his HiPS ability to hide again.
then he repeat the sequence over and over again.
is it legal? should he be able to both use acrobatic AND stealth check in the same move action?
it's absolutely devastating against non magical enemies (he has a VERY high stealth score)
in the description part of variouse spells and magic item creation, it is specified that a fully equipped Laboratory is required.
one of my players want his character to invest in creation such a Laboratory - how much gold do you he ought to invest in that?
I was thinking for 1,000 gp for a basic lab that grant +1 to anyone using it
and increase it by square each time:
+2 for 2,000 gp worth,
+3 for 4,000 gp worith,
+4 for 8,000 gp worth
etc...
So,
Gorgon has a special tough hide - metalic like.
I think it should be possible to create special armor from it - what do you think - what special properties would that kind of armor will have?
I'm thinking along the line of:
- metallic armor can be made 1 category lighter using Gorgon hide.
- all armor created with Gorgon hide is naturally 1 Ac higher then normal.
- (similarly) The Hide is naturally magical - all armor is automatically considered +1 magical armor
- some resistance to dimensional magical effect
Hi,
I remember seeing once a feat that basically allowed you to use bluff skill instead of diplomacy\intimidate, but I can't seem to find it.
anyone knows what it's called?
thanks!
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/oozes/pudding-black
in the 'Acid (Ex)' ability description, it states:
"A metal or wooden weapon that strikes a black pudding takes 2d6 acid damage.... If a black pudding remains in contact with a wooden or metal object for 1 full round, it inflicts 21 points of acid damage (no save) to the object."
It seems that an object receive the damage automatically, should I ignore items hardness according to this rule ?
if so do I use them normally? Acid damage is first divided to half, and only then applies against the items hardness?
Another question:
Shouldn't all Oozes have the 'Engulf' ability? - to simply slide over an enemy square and kind of 'swallow' him? I mean the ooze has a terrible AB for a CR 7 creature, it can only hit my melee fighter with 18+ rolls....
anyone knows what source is this monster \ devil can be found ?
Legion Devil (Merregon)
I'm thinking of implementing a new house rule in my group.
the players are a bit overpowered, meaning the cleric at level6 has 28 AC (30 with buff) - and almost nothing can hit him. I want to make the player think before running amok into a see of low-mid level enemies.
in my campaign the encounters are usually many mid level enemies then just a few high level ones, so I was thinking:
1. when 2 allies flank an enemy (by RAW), another ally that join the flank gain the flank bonus too(regardless if his actual position shouldn't grant him flanking).
2. for every extra 2 flankers, each additional flanker above 2 adds +1 bonus to all flankers. so 4 flanker will each have +4 flanking bonus. maximum 8 can flank a medium creature and gain +8 flank attack bonus.
that would make even a CR 1\2 goblin quite a challenge in groups.
What do you think ?
keep in mind that it not happen very often that a player is flanked by more then 2 enemies, and never by 8 - so far :)
Hi,
can anyone recommend a good dungeon crawl to download ?
- for levels 5-10
- short to medium length dungeon (to be incorporated to the campaign)
- sewer environment would be best - or something similar.
thanks.
According to the weapons hardness table, I don't understand the difference between the various hafted\metal-hafted\not hefted items:
Weapon or Shield Hardness1 Hit Points2, 3
Light blade 10 2
Light metal-hafted weapon 10 10
Light hafted weapon 5 2
I mean, a normal metal short sword - as listed in the weapons list belongs to which category ?
can someone give weapon example for each of the categories ?
thanks!
Hi,
I'm looking on the Retribution magical ability for armor from "The book of Divine Magic (PF)":
Retribution: Three times per day, the wearer of a suit of armor with this ability can cause the next creature who hits them and causes damage – whether by physical or magical attack – to take an equal number of points of damage of the same type.
Faint necromancy; CL 3rd; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, retribution; Price +6,500 gp.
few questions, since the text is not very specified (it potentially an extremely unbalanced powerful property):
1. does it require a standard action to active
2. 'the next creature' - means that after the ability is activated it stays activated until something attacks the wearer? for how long would it be activated ?
3. if a spellcaster hit the wearer with a fireball would he get a save roll vs. the same effect, or automatically gets the damage ?
Fire: according to the spell, you can either create it as a straight line wall or a circle only? is it anywhere specify that the wall can't be curved slightly or zig-zagged or something ?
Force: according to the description, this wall can't be made as a circle at all - shouldn't the same shape rules apply to all walls ?
according to the feat description:
The Leader... Modifier
Has a familiar, special mount, or animal companion -2
why is that?
if the character has a private Dragon, doesn't it add to his reputation ?

Hi,
I saw some threads about building but nothing that covered what I'm looking for:
A player in my party has reached enough wealth, so he want to build a new inn inside a newly founded city.
I'm having hard time evaluating the cost.
seeing as D&D 3.5e defined cost of simple house: 1000; grand house 5000.
I'm thinking that 3,000gp will be enough for a simple 2 story inn, with 3-5 guest rooms in the top level.
for moderate inn, bigger, 3 story high, with about ~6 rooms per floow - about 10,000gp.
and for a grand inn, that sounds very close to how 3/5e defined a mansion - which cost 50,000gp.
what do you think?
does that sounds alright to you ?

The Cleric of the party I'm DMing has acquired a large temple, and he wants to hire guards, caretaker, workers etc...
I'm having some difficulties in calculating the monthly cost for such hirelings:
1. Blacksmith: level 1 expert NPC, with 5 total craft skill. on taking 10, his average income would be 7 gp per week (per craft skill RAW) - so I priced that on 30gp per month.
2. simple manual workers: cleaners, ushers, etc - the closest thing I could find in the rules are 'hirelings: untrained' which cost (minimum of) 1 sp\day - that means they earn ~3 gp per month - which according to RAW they are considered to be poor with poor lifestyle. (a minimum wage of 10gp is required for a person to be considered having an average cost lifestyle).
3. trained workers: Gardner, cook, etc - under the 'hireling: trained' - that's 3 sp\day - which translates into 9 gp per month - barely average income.
4. the toughest is to determine the cost of guards, basically the lowest level 1 NPC warrior is still considered 'hireling: trained' - which deserve 9 gp per month, but that seems too low, an warrior would demand at least enough pay to be considered having an average income, no?
and what about NPC warrior with more HD? how would that be calculated?
I'd appreciate your thought in the matter - and whether or not you agree with my assessment of thing.
Especially how to handle point #4.
thanks!
The player who plays the cleric in my group claims that the 'Hand of Glory' domain power should increase his selective channeling power (the ability to select more creatures to be unaffected by the channel energy)
The power description says:
"...give it a bonus equal to your cleric level on a single Charisma-based skill check or Charisma ability check"
whereas selective channeling feat defines:
"When you channel energy, you can choose a number of targets in the area up to your Charisma modifier. These targets are not affected by your channeled energy."
what do you think?
Hi,
reading the forums, I surmised the following:
when grappling unarmed, the weapon focus(unarmed) feat will add +1 to your CMB.
but shouldn't it also add to your CMD vs. grappling attempt specifically?
Hi,
I'm currently running my pathfinder group a 3.5e adventure, for low level party - level 4.
generally looking at the encounters and enemies, they seem slightly weaker then they should be in Pathfinder (most enemies are custom content in the adventure) so I usually simply add them +1 to AB and damage to slightly scale it more toward pathfinder conventions.
so far it seems quite balanced for low level encounters. however, how should I handle it once the challenges will be higher? a simple +1 adjustment wouldn't suffice...
is there some sort of convention for converting monsters from 3.5 to pathfinder easily?
I'd be happy to hear your suggestions.
thanks.

My 4th level cleric player, in a very lucky turn of events managed to Achieve a wish - and he wished for a large church in the middle of a growing frontier settlement - and he got his wishes.
now, he has a high diplomacy, so he managed to convert\convince a lot of civilian to come to church mass, and they in turn, offer tribute to the church donation box...
now my question is how to determine the amount of money the church earns (it also have a lot of expenses - guards, food and care for novices, etc).
given the fact that a normal NPC will earn 7-70 SP per day (as described in the 'Profession' skill - calculated to the settlement's specific population), and the generosity factor varies, I decided that for every 100 people, he'll receive 1d4gp+1d10SP per day.
that means on average 3gp per day for 100 followers (currently he has ~100 followers) - that's ~20gp a week - 80 a month, and so forth.
I also think that for every 100 followers there's a 1% chance that a wealthy patron (noble, rich merchant, adventurers) will give a substantial donation to the church.
does that sounds reasonable to you guys ?
thanks!
CMB = Base attack bonus + Strength modifier + special size modifier
why only the base attack bonus? if I use disarm with a +2 whip - shouldn't the +2 bonus add to the check?
what about the effect of bless spell? it increases all your attacks by +1 - shouldn't it also affect your CMB?
thanks!
Hi,
I ready the Druid's Wild shape description & beast shape spell - and it raised some questions:
1. As I understand it, wild shape no longer grants you the animal's physical abilities (str, dex, con) ?
2. I didn't see how you're suppose to claculate your new AB - based on your BAB - the animal as it apear in the monster manual?
3. how do you determine the damage inflicted? base damage is same as the animal, I suppose - what about if I'm high enough level to have multiple attacks?
4.what if I'm low level but the animal has 2 or more attacks - do I gain them all?
thanks!
In the Pathfinder SRD I found this creature which I want to use in my next group's session:
file:///C:/My%20Web%20Sites/www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/anim als/dinosaur/velociraptor.html
it's a fan made creatures, I've already decided that the attack score is too small, and a creature that fast (dex 19) will naturally have the 'combat finess' feat (which will give it +4 to all attacks).
I'm trying to understand how they achieved CMB of +5 - as I see it it should be BAB +3 size -1 = +2 CMB.
what do you think?
is anything else here is miscalculated ?
might be stupid, question, but...
the trait says:
"All cohorts, followers, or summoned creatures under your leadership..."
does other party members benefits from this trait? as their not exactly under his leadership directly.. ?
or it does apply if the character with the trait is considered to be the party leader... ?
