@ GM Tempest: I should have a backstory come deadline time. I've been busy volunteering for the BC Provincial election, which is tomorrow.
I have a few ideas rattling around.
@ GM Tempest: Hi there! This is Ilper'aja. Just revamping a long-unused alias for another campaign that folded long time back. I did some number crunchy bits, if you wanted to have a quick look at the stat block.
Still need to put together a backstory.

@DM-DR: okay, I've made the appropriate changes. Have not updated the profile just yet. But that's an easy 'cut and paste' job. Thanks! Ilper'aja (Ifrit Sorcerer)
Early Life of Ilper'aja:
Ilper'aja is from the deserts of Westwend. When he was a toddler, his parents were both killed in a slave raid. He was taken as a 'prize' raised as a chattel slave amongst nomads. Since his survival depended on being dutiful, Ilper'aja is not as mercurial as normal Ifrit. Some months ago, Ilper'aja became fascinated with flame. He dreamt often of flames and the Efreeti fire-genies of legend. He did not know, or care, why he started having this fascination with flame. He soon became able to see in the dark. Something that both delighted and frightened him. He also became quite quite hot-headed as well. Which is dangerous for a slave Westwend. One night while out foraging, Ilper'aja got into a violent argument with his dull-witted pugnacious guard, Imenzu. Tiring of this unruly slave, Imenzu started beating Ilper'aja with a riding crop. Ilper'aja raised his hands to ward off the blows and, to his astonishment, fire erupted from his hands into the face of Imenzu, who soon howled in pain and surprise. Although he didn't know how he was doing this, Ilper'aja managed to send fire into Imenzu several more times, until the guard died of burns. With no plan of any kind, Ilper'aja took what he could from the body of Imenzu and walked away into the dessert night. A sandstorm soon burst forth, hiding the tracks of Imenzu as he marched along throughout the night. His escape has left Ilper'aja modestly equipped for an adventuring. He slowly learnt how to control the fiery powers he has. He is also well aware that his alone and vulnerable. Currently preoccupied with survival, he dreams of leading a life of adventure.
Personality:
Ilper'aja is a charismatic sorcerer. His mannerisms include being impulsive, unruly, abrasive, and mercurial. Foibles that are less pronounced than in most Ifrit. He takes personal loyalty, or lack of it, very seriously. He won't betray his friends and allies, but he reacts very badly to those who betray him or his friends. Motivation:
Ilper'aja has grown up knowing only the life of nomadic travel. He needs few, if any, reasons to seek adventure. He wants to travel and seek his own glory and power. He is more interested in controlling and proving his arcane abilities than he is in amassing wealth. @Valeriya: thanks for that! Here's what I have for Ilper'aja, then. I have not updated his profile with all this. It would just take a few minutes for me cut and past all this into his profile. Hope it looks okay: -------------------- Ilper'aja (Ifrit Sorcerer)
Early Life of Ilper'aja:
Ilper'aja is from Westwend. He was born and raised as a chattel slave, and knows nothing of his parents or other family. With no hope of escaping the lash as a child, he is calm and reserved. Which means he's not as mercurial and headstrong as most Ifrit. Some years ago, Ilper'aja was sold to Sekhet, a reclusive sorceress of modest skill living in a rural estate. She treated Ilper'aja and her other slaves quite well. Recognizing his sorcerous talents with fire, she taught Ilper'aja how to channel his powers. A few years ago, a bold and murderous gang of bandits sneaked into the house of Sekhet. Ever vigalent, Ilper'aja alerted Sekhet to the danger. They routed the bandits, receiving only slight injuries. After driving the bandits off, Ilper'aja discovered it was a faithless slave who allowed the bandits in, and in fit of fury, scorched him to death. Sekhet overlooked Ilper'aja killing that slave. She may have done so herself. Sekhet recently granted Ilper'aja his freedom. He was clearly being overtaken by wanderlust, like many Ifrit. Also ageing far faster than her Ifrit slave, Sekhet thought it best to grant him his freedom for his loyalty before she died of old age while he was still young and hale. Modestly equipped for an adventuring career of his own, Ilper'aja is looking to seek fame and glory for himself.

@Valeriya: Thanks! I did write a wee back story for him for the Golarian setting, which may or may not work in this setting:
Early Life of Ilper'aja:
Ilper'aja is from the notorious slaver-haven of Stonespine Island. He knows nothing of his parents or other family. Like so many from that notorious island, he was born and raised as a chattel slave. With no hope of escaping the lash as a child, he is not as headstrong and mercurial as most Ifrit. Some years ago, Ilper'aja was sold to Sekhet, a reclusive sorceress of modest skill living near the Osirion city of Totra. She treated Ilper'aja and her other slaves quite well. Recognizing his sorcerous talents with fire, she taught him how to channel his powers. A few years ago, a bold and murderous gang of bandits sneaked into the house of Sekhet. Ever alert, Ilper'aja alerted Sekhet to the danger, and they routed the bandits, receiving slight injuries. What locales would work for Katapesh and/or Orsion in this campaign to alter the story appropriately? Hope the DM's okay and that it's just a matter of being busy-busy sort of thing. Thanks!
@DM-DR and/or Valeriya Here's the basics on the sorcerer build I've got for level two. Modestly equipped from 120 GP: crunch:

I just need to tweak the back story a tad to reflect the homebrew world setting.
@DM-DR: How about an Ifrit sorcerer like this one? Pending a few tweaks for the level and setting and such, of course And would I be right in assuming that this home-brew world is largely based on the Babylonian or Assyrian pantheon and such? Just wondering about the flavour sort of thing after looking at the list of the gods you're using.
@Dafydd: Thanks for those three tips. I'll keep my eye open for Ioun stones. Of course, one need the cash to splash on something very cool like that! I was leaning to the Fire Elemental bloodline. But I was looking more at the charisma boost for class abilities. Don't know how often sorcerers, who are not front line material, would need the boost of strength anyway. Actually, I had not looked at that Primal Bloodline. That does look cool! I guess you'd have to give up the +2 enhancement to charisma for class abilities for that bloodline. But still, it does look more 'blasty' than the regular fire elemental bloodline. Thanks for all that! Edit/Additional: I had another quick look at the primal version. Looks like I should be able to keep the enhancement to charisma from Fire Elemental. If so; COOL!
One other question, if anyone's still out there. What would anyone there think would be a better choice for an Ifrit sorcerer? The Efreeti or the Fire Elemental bloodline? They're both quite similar. The Efreeti bloodline is definitely the more thematic of the two But the Ifrit does get to treat his/her charisma score as 2 higher for all class abilities with the Fire Elemenetal bloodline, which is kind of significant all-round. I think either one would have the makings of a decent blasting sort of character. Just can't make up my mind which of the two would be a better choice, overall, for an Ifrit.
Any other feats for boosting (effective) caster level or DC? Already talked about Elemental Focus, Spell Focus, Greater Spell Focus and Mage's Tattoo. Would there be any other feats that might help in Caster Level or spell DC? I see there's Tenacious Transmutation that gives +2 DC to transmutation. But I don't think there are enough Transmutation [fire] spells to make that feat investment too useful.

Actually, I just plain forgot that archetype. I just had a quick look at it to jog my memory. The drawbacks are significant. Especially -2 to the WILL save. On the other hand, that could make things interesting. It would be one way to max out being a blaster, at the expense of spells known and WILL save. At least he'd still an effective CHA of 20 for his class abilities because of the Fire Elemental bloodline.
@Sissyl: Thanks for that. Sound advice. And it shows you how often I play sorcerers at that level (like, never, as yet). I made another wee tweak on the cunning plans for feats, based on what you said: level 1: Spell Focus (Evocation)
mini crunch:
Stats STR 12 DEX 12 CON 12 INT 14 (to buff up what skills he does have) WIS 9 CHA 18 Initiative = +7 (wildfire heart racial trait, and reactionary combat trait) Perception = +4 Hit Points = 7 HP Of course, I'll need to select a few spells other than fire/blasting spells, but I'll worry about the specifics on that if/when I can actually put this character through his paces.
Right! I tweaked this sorcerer a bit. Haven't updated the profile yet. Work in progress sort of thing. Here's the bare bones of what I've got now: mini crunch:
Stats STR 12 DEX 12 CON 12 INT 14 WIS 9 CHA 18 Initiative = +7 (Wildfire Heart and Reactionary trait) Perception = +4 Hit Points = 7 HP FEATS PLAN (optimistically assuming he lives that long!)
----- There's always the problem of trying to balance all this with precious few feat slots! Thanks again for any tips and such anyone provides. It's all appreciated!
@MyCupRunnethOver: Thanks for those suggestions. I'll have a closer look at those feats. I was looking at the spell focus mostly because the big-ticket items (fire and elemental spells) for this spell caster fall under that school of spells. Mage's Tattoo does look rather interesting. Speaking of Mage's Tattoo… Do you think this would be a better build with the Tattooed Sorcerer Archetype? He'd have the benefit of the Mage's Tattoo feat from the start, which would be a good thing! Spell Perfection looks cool too. But I'll have to play this one and survive to that level too. But it is a cool option to make a note of. There's just so many feats to keep track of! Phew! Thanks for all that!
Okay; revised cunning plan, should I ever play this character: level 1: Spell Focus (Evocation)
Any thoughts about if this is better for an Ifrit sorcerer with the Elemental (fire) bloodline? Thanks in advance!
Here's the bit I should've had in the first post with initial numbers and stuff that I first came up with: Vital Statistics: Ilper'aja Ifrit Sorcerer (Fire Elemental Bloodline) Level 1 Chaotic Neutral Outsider (native) Initiative: +5 Perception: +4 ======

@Hoegyhead: Sorry; silly of me! It's the Elemental (fire) Bloodline. To take advantage of the effective +2 boost to charisma that Ifrit get with that one bloodline. I was looking a Eldritch Heritage (Efreeti) so he would ultimate get lots and lots of fire rays per day, as well as the Efreet Form power on top of everything else. I thought that would make things interesting.
Hi there! I was just wondering if anyone could give me a critique on this Ifrit Sorcerer build of mine. It's not for a game, or anything like that. Just seeing how to go about making a spiffy blaster of an Ifrit Sorcerer and see if anyone has any pointers on it. Here was my cunning plan for feats, by level (including bonus feat at level 7):
Thanks in advance! |
