male human Ranger 4

With the he discussion with the he queen coming to a close the smoke dissipates ending the conversation. Horgus makes a motion and an assistant who was standing nearby brings forth a large flat chest with 3 locks upon it. Taking a key out of his vest pocket he unlocks the 3 locks opening the chest. Inside was 6 rows of medals on a red velvet base. Each row of medals corresponds to a particular theme. Setting the chest on a small portable table Horgus steps back to let you all take a closer look. These are righteous medals as ordered by the queen to be presented to you upon completion of specific tasks in the effort against our enemies in the Worldwound. To claim a medal and unlock its associated Righteous power you must take hold of the appropriate medal and state clearly to a general or other significant leader of the crusades the act that qualifies you for such merit. Should you speak truthfully the medal will pulse once acknowledging your claim. From that point onwards to use the benefits of the Righteous Medla yiu must wear it upon your person. The medals and their means of claiming them and their abilities are as follows.

medal information:

Righteous Medal of Agility: This triangular iron medal shows a demonic face surrounded by three swords. It is awarded to a hero who delivers a death blow to a demon in combat before that demon gets a chance to act in the combat. This medal is associated with Dexterity and grants a +1 sacred bonus on Initiative checks.

Righteous Medal of Clarity: This circular blue medal depicts a pair of feminine gray eyes surrounded by a circular silver lightning bolt. It is awarded to a hero who recovers vital information of great use against the Worldwound and delivers this intelligence to the crusaders. This medal is associated with Intelligence and grants a +2 sacred bonus on saves against insanity or confusion effects.

Righteous Medal of Command: This circular medal depicts a leering demon head before two crossed swords. It is awarded to a hero who redeems one of the enemy and convinces the redeemed character to join the crusade. This medal is associated with Charisma and grants a +2 sacred bonus on saves against emotion-based effects (including fear effects).

Righteous Medal of Spirit: This rectangular medal depicts the symbol of Iomedae on a field of red. It is awarded to a hero who becomes possessed or mentally controlled by a demon but escapes from that control before he is forced to do evil. This medal is associated with Wisdom and grants a +2 sacred bonus on saves against charm and possession effects (including dominate effects).

Righteous Medal of Valor: This medal looks like a demonic skull, the top of which has been pierced by four red-hilted swords. It is awarded to a hero who delivers a death blow to a demon whose CR is at least 1 higher than the hero’s character level. This medal is associated with
Strength and grants a +2 sacred bonus to CMD.

Righteous Medal of Vigor: This hexagonal medal depicts a white castle on a field of red with gold trim. It is awarded to a hero who is reduced to negative hit points by a demon but survives (or alternately, is restored to life) and rejoins the battle before that demon is defeated. This medal is associated with Constitution and grants a +2 sacred bonus on saves against death effects.

Looking at you all gathered around Horgus asks, Do any of you wish to lay claim to any medals now or should we store them in the citadel until such a time that 1 may claim one.

Having gotten permission to approach and convene a gathering of the leaders of Kenebras Gwerm clears his throat as he looks for Garith and Irabeth to stand. I have here a message from our esteemed Queen to be delivered to Sir Garith, Irabeth and company. Before I can present the message to you I must require your touch upon this stone.

Drawing forth a blood red stone he passes it over to Irabeth and Garith. As each one of them touches the stone the redness fades away leaving the stone white. Horgus takes the stone with thanks. A little security precaution should we have been deceived by demons upon our arrival.

sense motive DC 16:

You sense from Horgus that he is still a little arrogant and pompous but there has been a shift in his demeanor. Instead of being filled with his own ego it seems that he is more in line with the crusade. While not willing to be in the front of the fighting he seems to support it fully and is concerned for its success for all concerned. Being a noble though he still feels that he knows more than most and unfortunately may be right when it comes to matters of money and economic growth.

Any idea when you are closing the recruitment? Just curious as it seems like there are a lot of good submissions already and I am eager to see the results.

I should also state that should I be selected I am looking at taking the mounted combat style progression to complement the hippogriff aspect of the character.

Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to know or have questions about my submission. Thanks again GM_Fenwick.

Sweet, thanks for being willing to run this. i have been wanting to play this one for a while. Looking at an urban ranger as part of the sable co. and be a hippogriff rider.

Background:

Looking back on the short life span that encompassed his life, Horgus could pinpoint three major influences or events that shaped his life.
The first of which was his father and the lessons imparted to him by the wise man. I say wise now, but at the time I did not understand truly how wise he was. I don't think any young man or child does until they are on their own and forging their own path in life. Be that as it may others may not have found him wise as he was by their standards a simple driver for the numerous warehouses on the docks. not that he could claim any true allegiance to a single merchant or any merchant claim his allegiance as the economy of Korvosa limited such affinity. By not having a guild to manage the intricacies of wages and rights it was a matter of personal pride and hard work that determined who had a job that day hauling whatever was needed. Certainly there were some specific people that my father worked for on a regular basis but he was not an permanent employee of theirs. Why does this have a bearing on me. Simply put I rode with him and helped him when not required at home to help mother. While riding with him I learned many things, the value of hard work, the pride in doing a good job, patriotism, and how to handle an animal. This last was very important as some trips would take him outside of the city proper. It was then that I would help my father the most as he would take a rest and let me drive the wagon when I was older. Once he had a rest it would be my turn to relax. Indeed I owe much to my father for these life lessons that he imparted to me.

The second occasion that affected my life happened just outside of the city to the east. I was with my father on another one of his business trips. It was frequently easier to go outside of the city than pass through the middle depending on what the merchandise was and the location of the destination, but on this day we were headed to a small building 2 miles out of town. I remember it was my father's turn at the reigns for I was laying down in the back amongst some crates that we had just loaded. I was looking up at the sky when I noticed far above me the swift passage of a member of the Sable Company on his hippogriff. I recall thinking, as most kids do in Korvosa, that I would do anything to join that elite group. As luck, or unluck may be a better way to say it, would have it I was due to meet the hippogriff and its rider in the next few moments. As I said, my father was driving when I felt him slow down, I peeked my eyes up in time to see 3 men on horses in the middle of the road. The temerity of them was astounding as they all had crossbows pointing at my father. One of them ordered my father to give them the cargo and he would be fine. Trying to protect me he started to indicated that I was to remain still. One of the highwaymen thought he was going for a weapon and fired. The crossbow bolt slammed into my father. I could hear the bolt hit a rib and it was the only thing that kept my father from dying instantly. Suddenly the hippogriff and rider I saw earlier charged from the skies skewering one on a lance. They landed in front of the two remaining highwaymen who scattered before him. Drawing a bow he quickly shot as they fled dropping both of them in a matter of 20 seconds. Quickly he dismounted and approached the wagon. Turning to me he checked on the status of me and my father. Seeing that my father was gravely injured he started to bandage his wounds. While I tried to help I knew that I would just get in his way so let him be as he did what he could to help my dad. I turned my attention to the fantastic beast before me. Approaching slowly as ?I did not want to startle it I was able to get within arms reach of the hippogriff. Reaching a hand out and looking it in the eye I finally was able to touch the object of my admiration. That act must have been a surprise to my father's rescuer as when he turned around he was about to give a sharp order the hippogriff to heel. Instead at the sight of me petting his mount, his face gave a peculiar look. That look I was told later was surprise that the hippogriff had not rent me limb from limb at my approach without getting permission from the Sable Company Marine. It was that single touch that gave me direction in my life for the marine told me to come to the Endrin Military Academy and present myself for inspection. After those few words he told me that he was able to save my father from death but that I was to being him straight home for him to recover.

A couple months passed were I was taking over for my father as he healed. Once he was back to his former health The third of me life altering events happened. I presented my self to the Endrin Military Academy were I was tested to see my aptitude and ability. It was seen that I was a fit candidate and was enlisted. Since then I have been training in the art of aerial combat specializing in archery. Upon graduation I will fulfill my dream and join the ranks of the Sable Company Marines to protect the city and follow the orders of my superiors.

I left the ending more vague as to allow flexibility as to when I would get a hippogriff. Also I have no problem with the hierarchy that I would need to follow as being a member of the Sable Company Marines first and then others second. I do hope that there won't be too much of a problem as the Sable Company does interact and aid others as well. If there was a direct order from a higher ranking member of the Sable Company ordering a specific course of action contrary to the party's direction I would ask you for your advice and work with you to make it work.

Thanks for the consideration and I will get crunch going tonight. I am assuming 2 traits and average starting wealth. Are drawbacks allowed to gain an additional trait?

male human Ranger 4

Good luck to you and yours. If you do find a way to make it through this I might hire you on full time. This place is getting too dangerous for a man as refined as myself. Then again perhaps there is a place for me after all here. Only time will tell I guess.

Where to next and know local check if you want to try and avoid a patrol.

male human Ranger 4

Taking stock of the situation, Horgus gathers together some of the cleanest bedrolls he can to make his bed with. Turning to Garith he nods his agreement with your assesment without divulging too much. Providing that my estate still stands intact from all of this I am quite confident that I will be able to not only pay you your dues but to also keep myself safe from any and all harm at the present. I have not made it this far and survived this long without a few tricks at home. Only the complete desctruction of my manor would remove those precautions. So yes I will be safe once we reach my home. However the precautions were made for myself only so the protection granted to you would be minimal if at all.

male human Ranger 4

I want to return now to the surface and make it home as quickly as possible but safely. I have hired you hansomly and trust those to see the job accomplished. At the very least let us proceed farther today back to the other area we cleared out so it shortens the journey tomorrow. Then if some can press on to look then we know if it is safe to proceed all the way to the surface and get out from under all this damnable rock.

male human Ranger 4

Horgus looks slightly mollified as he quesses some of you understand more than he is letting on. However he is too stubborn to say anything more unless pressed. Instaed he agrees with the group that investigation is a wise choice but only after he is returned to house safely.

male human Ranger 4

Hmmphh, shouldn't we let the authorities handle the matter of the safe houses. Horgus turns quiet and surly at the mention of the safe houses.

sense motive 13:

Clearly the news of the Nyserian Manor being a safe house had troubled him but why you are not sure.

male human Ranger 4

Well I must say that is more like it. that is what I was expecting when I hired you.

Horgus looks quite impressed with your sudden combat prowess. He cant even think of anything negative to say which is something for him.

Good luck all. Maybe one day I will get a chance to play my hippogriff riding ranger. If it doesn't work out for some reason please reconsider me.

wealth 5d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 6, 4) = 22*10 (max at 150 but that extra 70 would be awesome though ;p)

I am working on the background now to incorporate the traits but basically my father is a driver for a company and that is where Horgus learned how to handle animals. Riding and working with his father as he was driving his team around the city and outside of it.

male human Ranger 4

When approached by Sir Garith with the proposal for them to stay behind Horgus bursts out. What?! and stay in this god's forsaken hamlet to be stared at in the dark with none of you to protect me. Never. If you are to proceed onward you are taking me with you all the way to the surface without stopping. I have hired you and offered a handsome sum to get me out of here quickly. If we must spend one night here for you to recoup that is one thing, but to be left here, NO! I trust in your abilities to see me through safely.

Sir Garith you are able to control any more outbursts from Horgus and convince him to not say such things in the presence of any of the Descendants but as you can tell he feels quite strongly about leaving this place quickly.

male human Ranger 4

If this man speaks true, then let us hurry onward. I am in want of a rest and refreshment from the march. Plus we can get rid of this mad dwarf and seea bout finding a way to the surface.

male human Ranger 4

I for one am not willing to backtrack an hour to be left at a temple with only one of the protectors I hired to guard me only to have to walk another hour just get back here. If we are to wait then wait here and not trudge back and forth. If necessary to move quicker I will double your pay, but that means we move on with this person or bring him to ow somehow.

male human Ranger 4

So'rien, you do not recall anything about Torag and the abyss directly. As a lawful good deity though he would oppose demons on principle.

Sir Gartih, you do not detect any evil in the anteroom.

Well, if you insist we rest for a short bit then I can see the wisdom in that before we press on again. Besides, cough, cough, clearing his throat, this is an interesting find down here and some are probably curious to investigate it.

Clearly this is as much of an apology to Anevia that he is going to make at this time. He still doesn't like her but is letting the outburst pass and move on.

male human Ranger 4

How dare you throw such accusations at me of demon worshipping. I have never been involved with such people or nefarious schemes. The same can't be said as for you consorting with thieves and scoundrels I might add. I would be worried about your skeletons in the closet before you try to make up any in mine.

Horgus refuses to enter the shrine and waits outside looking at the group for their decision as to what to do and where to go.

There was a reson I made separate aliases for these people.

male human Ranger 4

Leaning over and whispering to So'rien but loud enough for the group to hear, Perhaps we should move on or split up. We have Sir Garith and Ryu stay with her. We can make better time if she wants to wait here with them.

male human Ranger 4

Horgus looked like he swallowed his tongue when Ryu had the affront to talk back to him like that. May I remind you that I said without damage. Clearly you do not understand what it takes to remain in my service. If that is the attitude you are going to have then I release you from your service and will look to the others for my protection and well being, and that includes protection from you.

Turning to the others that have agreed to his terms, Your pay was just increased thanks to this man here. Hopefully you are up to the task and we can resume this trek to get home.

Sir Garith you manage to prevent Horgus from firing all of you and leaving on his own. The four of you in his employ will now get 375 if he arrives safely.

male human Ranger 4

Just fine and dandy here under ground waiting for you to all finish with whatever it is going on up there. Can we Get a move on yet or should we continue waiting?

male human Ranger 4

We should all go together with our strongest in front to provide a bulwark for those behind. That way our show of might will deter people from fighting us and run.

When he hears your apology Oriana he nods his head to you that he heard it and it was acceptable. Your future behavior towards him will speak louder than words and he is waiting to see what transpires next.

Nothing is ever easy and straight forward in Pathfinder so why should this decision be?

male human Ranger 4

Pakak you would need know local or nobility.

Very well then if you do not accept then I will just offer the other your share to see me to safety. One does get what quality one pays for.

male human Ranger 4

Indeed the calm countenance of both So'rien and Sir Garith manage to diffuse the rising temper of the man that Oriana freed. While still suspicious of you all he does settle down and approach the group. The name is Horgus Gwerm as most of you should know already. I was there next to the stage when that demon appeared causing all that mayhem. Next thing I know I hear a roar and the ground opens below me. You all look like you can at least provide me with protection on the way out of here. How am out I hire you to escort me to my home on the surface. Yes well consider yourselves hired and for now I am your new employer and boss. If you get me back home without any more damge to my person i will pay each of you 250gp. As you can tell i am a man of great importance and means, howeverI am in need of a weapon if more of those beasts appear. A rapier if you have it.

Nice job you 3 in that order. Between the three checks you moved him from hostile to indifferent. Unlike most diplomacy checks you can make another check in less than 24 hours to improve his attitude but not right now.

male human Ranger 4

None of your concern until I get freed and my wounds taken care of. Besides who are you, you little runt. Now are you going to get me out of here or just stand there gawking?

male human Ranger 4

Oriana, your ministrations have revealed that the man is hardly damaged at all. Only minor cuts and bruises ail him. As for being trapped, it is only his long cloak that is pinned under some of the rocks. With some help he should easily be freed. With the slight light from fairie fire he shouts out at you. Come now, hurry and free me. Don't you know who I am. Are you a healer? If so, then good as I am in terrible agony from the fall. If not, then once you free me, find one.

About Darius Braum

Flamboyantly dressed, Darius stands a very tall 5'9" and usually sports a huge grin. His fine clothes are pressed, immaculate, and begging for attention; if your eye isn't caught by his many rings and chains, it will certainly see the ruckus he is causing! His skin is a healthy shade of green, and his dark, voluptuous hair is kept in check only by his foppish hat.
He wears a few weapons, and his shield usually across his back, with the crest of House Braum emblazoned proudly across it. To most, he is a kind-hearted friend, and over a drink you may hear his trademark catchphrase... although he often starts fights with the same words... and only the luckiest, fairest women will receive a custom tune from Darius Melton, the Bastard Braum!

SPECIAL ABILITIES
-----------------------------
Darkvision: Half-orcs can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

Orc Blood: Half-orcs count as both humans and orcs for any effect related to race.

Overlooked Mastermind: Some half-orcs use half-orcs’ brutish stereotypes to their advantage, causing others to underestimate their intelligence and scheming. Such half-orcs gain a +2 racial bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, and Sense Motive checks. This bonus increases to +4 against other humanoids. They also receive a +2 racial bonus on Bluff checks to feign ignorance and Sense Motive checks to intercept secret messages, and this stacks with the above bonus. This racial trait replaces intimidating, orc ferocity, and weapon familiarity.

Favored Nation (Ex): Each time he would select a favored enemy, a dandy instead selects a country with whose courtly graces he is wholly versed and studied. He gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against courtiers, officials, nobles, and gentry from that nation. Likewise, he gains a +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against them.

A dandy can attempt the appropriate Knowledge checks untrained to identify such people from the selected country. A dandy gains additional favored nations, and can increase the bonuses of one of his current favored nations, in the same way he would with a normal ranger’s favored enemy.

Track (Ex): A ranger adds half his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow or identify tracks.

Rumor Empathy (Ex): A dandy can alter the flow and spread of rumors in his favor. This functions similarly to wild empathy, except that it takes 1 day (8 hours of work), instead of 1 minute, and it affects the general tenor of a rumor instead of a wild animal.

A successful rumor empathy check allows the dandy to increase or decrease the rumor’s tone by one step. For example, he could make an indifferent rumor friendly and thus positive toward its target, or an unfriendly rumor hostile and thus even more negative toward its target than it was originally.

The difficulty of influencing a rumor depends on the size of the community in which it is spreading. The DC of the check is 15 in a village or smaller settlement. This DC increases by 5 and the number of days required to attempt the check increases by 2 for every settlement size category larger than a village—to a maximum of DC 40 and 11 days to affect a rumor spreading through an entire metropolis.

If the rumor is only spreading through a smaller segment of the population, such as the elven district in a larger metropolis, use the population of that smaller segment to determine the DC and number of days of work required to use rumor empathy. The DC also increases by 10 if the rumor is about the dandy himself, since the dandy is obviously a biased source with respects to rumors about his own person.
