"Riding a giant lizard looks adventurous, but my true strength comes from my own two feet and back. Perhaps I will learn sometime or other, assuming I have enough coin to purchase one."

Hektor slaps his thigh and laughs.

"But now, now is the time for chilled wine, dates, and dancing! Let's retire to party, before we head out into the wild once more."

"More adventure, out of the desert this time? I'm in, ready to swing my blade and find some trouble. When do we leave?"

"Oh, excellent! That seems like a great price for this hunk of poisoned meat."

"This thing was much bigger than we expected, but your anti-poison treatments worked excellently. Thank you for that, ma'am."

Hektor stands to the side of the counter, allowing the more social members of the group to explain the mushrooms and mind control.

"Well, I cashiered out of the army with a pension, but that coin will only carry so far. This way, I keep my skills and fitness levels sharp, and make some coin as I go. Plus, I get to see fantastic places, get baked in the scorching sun, and fight giant monsters! Where else would a man like I go?"

Hektor grins and chuckles as he answers Trathing.

Hektor heads over to sign in and check for work.

"Some guy calls himself 'The Astronomer'? That doesn't sound ominous at all."

"A fine and hearty adventure we had, Lady Nawar. One I was glad to be a part of, indeed. My only hope is that the next tast be somewhere a bit less...warm? These fine spellcasters can bring forth water in a glorious and fantastic manner, but that desert is quite the cruel mistress."

Hektor grins widely and enjoys the tea. And the sights.

"I thank you for this reward, and I yearn for further tasks to complete."

Hektor took 1 CLW pill, as to the money, it can become heavy, I don't know if we want to split it out now or haul it around in a big pile but I'm fine with either.

"Grand idea, Jenrick. I'll kip for now, wake me when its my turn."

Hektor settles in to sack out, asleep in moments with the skill of a lifelong soldier.

"Sounds like a good plan to me. An early morning stroll through the sands, a bit of a snooze in the bigtime heat, then off to town for profit, dinner and wine! What more could a person ask for?"

Hektor begins removing his armor and setting up his bed roll in the chamber.

Hektor follows the scouts, weapon and shield at the ready.

"Well, we've got plenty of light. Shall we head on into the dark and see what's in there?"

Hektor readies his shield and sword, preparing to take his place near the front.

"Well, that was a lot of work. But we have a big old hole in the ground. Now what?"

If needed, yes. Hektor fears no dark desert night. He's not a smart man like that.

"Once again, the desert proves it's reputation well warranted. Without some bracing timbers and plenty of muscle, we're not moving this thing. Not unless some of you have magic that can shrink the rock, or turn it into mud, or whatnot."

"Surely we can apply some knowledge and ingenuity towards getting this impediment out of our way. Perhaps digging beneath it while leveraging from above in the direction of the trench? There must be some way to move it."

Hektor checks out the large slab of stone, looking for weaknesses, places where it may pivot, or the like.

"Indeed! Believe me, I would much rather be lounging in a cool bath, snacking on dates and sipping iced wine."

Hektor grins and nods his thanks for the water.

"But these lovely people being able to create water on a whim makes our travels much less arduous. My thanks, again for that."

"Oof, just when you thought it'd be a pleasant day to wander the dunes in a whole Lotta armor, carrying a 20 lb scorpion tail. Turns out, it's bloody hot out here!"

Hektor drains his waterskin, then looks to one of the spellcasters with a shrug.

"Mind topping the old bag off?"

Hektor follows, for sure.

"Oh, that's nice. Thanks, Rhiastra. Sure would have been welcome to have you with us back on the march."

"What's that thing, there? That seems unusual for a scorpion, even one as big as this thing."

Hektor points out the strange growth, but can't make heads or tails of what it signifies.

"I bet that old apothecary lady will pay quite the sun for this beasty!"

Hektor stows his gear and shoulders the chitinous item.

"So, do we have further business in the desert? Do we think the message from that missing courier is somewhere out here in the sand?"

"What ho! That thing died hard and bloody! Now we reap the rewards of the battle."

Mindful of the poison stinger, Hektor slashes down to cleave the upper part of the stinger from the tail.

"This thing needs to die, soon as we can! Noone wants to catch those claws and tail at the same time!"

"Oof! The beast hits quite hard! Not sure how long Jenrik will last with the poison in his veins!"

Stepping up, Hektor brings his sword out and slashes down on the creature, taking a defensive stance for the moment.

Holding his shield up between the monster and himself, Hektor pops the antioxin pill and braces for the incoming attack sure to lash out.

"Gah! That thing is enormous! Watch the tail, I can see its poison dripping already."

"Agreed, point the way, and we march out into the sands. Lovely, grinding, sticking, hot, chafing sand. Oh boy what a treat it is to come back to the desert! "

Hektor grits his teeth, shoulders his gear and makes ready to leave.

"You can create water? That's plenty portal to me. Heck, I'd bring you along and keep you safe just for that power out in the desert!"

"As a colleague said ince, long ago...'the pointy end goes in the other guy'."

Hektor grins and taps his sword at his belt. On closer inspection, all of his martial gear appears Nova Roman Imperial standard issue, if a bit worn and used.

"Been a soldier plenty long, I can fight, shoot, march, and dig ditches with the best of 'em."

"Alternatively, they were very very weak. That is certainly a possibility, right?"

Hektor seems strangely excited about the prospect of fighting a huge, burrowing, possibly impervious to weapons monster.

"So, one pill each dose? Or does it take both for a single person?"

Hektor counts out 90 gold coins to the apothecary.

"Either way, I'll take 6 pills. Hopefully, we'll knock your socks off when we come back with the stingers."

After the apothecary, Hektor stops by a chandlery and picks up multiple waterskins for the party.

90 dinars for the antitoxins, and 6 for new waterskins. That leaves 4 dinars, which he spends buying 8 days of trail rations.

Hektor fills his new waterskins and divides up the pills and rations with each one, then heads to the gate to await the rest of the team.

"Good afternoon, ma'am. I am here to procure some protective tinctures against poison. I have been told you might have some in stock, and also been told you might be interested in the stinger of a giant scorpion."

Hektor flashes his most winning smile at the veiled woman, inhaling the strong smells in her shop.

"Sounds good. Meet you there."

Hektor heads to the apothecary.

"Well, sitting around jawing and drinking won't get us to the spot. I'm heading out to the apothecary for some anti-poison stuff, then out to grab a fee extra waterskins. Anyone coming with?"

Hektor returns his sword to his belt, bows to the guild mistress, and grabs his hear before heading out.

"Oh, right. Any chance of some expense money? I doubt the lass will just hand over vials for us on account of my winning smile."

"Water, food, and desert clothes. Got it. Do they sell antioxin vials here in the city?"

"So close to the city, this thing must be under the thrall of something or someone powerful. I'd wager there's a villain behind the snatching of this proclamation."

Hektor grabs his scabbarded sword and makes to stand.

"Any restrictions or rules of engagement? Do we need to worry about innocents in the area?"

"Lost Soldier, eh? Seems an apt description, as close to the truth as any, I suppose."

Hektor finishes his tea and looks as Nawar straight on.

"Not sure exactly what's needed, or what's going on, but I'll lend my skills and strength if you need it." the scarred man laughs deeply and claps a hand on the table with a bang.

"Beats collecting dust overy sweat dealing with brigands or monsters any day!"

"I'm Hektor Sextus. Pleased to meet you."

Hektor offers his hand in greeting to the strange-looking creature.

"Too bad mine are all so mundane. Got paid to kill goblins, got paid to run off some bandits, ho hum stuff really."

I hadn't written in, but I figured original conscription would take place about 16-18, and he spent at least 10 years in the service, so mid-to-late 20's, at the minimum

"My dear Guild Master Nawar, a pleasure to see you, as always. Thrills and tingles seem to be the coin of the day, lately. I am glad to be of assistance."

Hektor unclips the frog of his longsword from his belt before kneeling on the cushions. His helm sits at his side, with well worn and scarred guantlets tossed inside. His pack, shield, and bow stand in the corner near the entrance.

"Is it always this hot around here? I'm starting to realize why everyone prefers to do their business in the early morning or late evening." Hektor grins as he sips the tea.
