Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Aid Another for Sefra's tracking check: 9+3=12.

"Ah, lessee.... Doesn't seem like they went this way...."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"I'd like to follow their trail and, well, impose some frontier justice on these hoodlums. At some point, the area will need pacifying, and it might win us some favour with the centaurs as well."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Take their stuff and toss the bodies down the hill to feed the wolves and ravens. Burial's too good for 'em. Now, whose watch was it? Double watches seems prudent for the next few nights."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"See you in hell, idiots!" As the bandits run, Heimoth calmly walks forward and picks up his throwing axe.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Good one! But you need to do better than that." With a snarl, Heimoth slams his shield into the face of the closest bandit and then steps around the other one, preparing to charge the mage.

I'm attacking Bandit 9 with Staggering smite: Attack roll 12+8=AC 20, damage 2d8+4=13. A hit pushes the bandit to AB 18, which is sadly on fire... I then use Lay on hands on myself before stepping to Z14.

Sefra.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Map.

First, a free save: 10+1 (Human perseverance)=11. Huzzah!

Finally mobile again, Heimoth jogs towards the enemies, taking care to avoid being surrounded. "You there," he barks at the closest one. "Come get some more of this!" With that, he flings his throwing axe at the miscreant before assuming a fighting stance, sword and shield held high.

I can't reach them with a charge, so it's time for my first ranged attack! Move to Y15 before challenging Bandit 9 and then throwing the axe at him. Attack roll 13+6+1(bard)=AC 20, damage 1d6+3=8.

Sefra.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Um... Sorry?

So... Hasren, bandits, their tame wizard and then me?

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

I first attack Bandit 5 using Valiant strike; my effective STR is 18 as I have two opponent surrounding me. Attack roll 11+8+1(bard)+1(STR increase)=AC 21, damage 1d8+4+1(STR increase=11. I then use a minor action to lay ands on myself, healing 7 hit points. I then use my action point and make another attack, this time on Bandit 6. I hit him with Holy strike. Attack roll 9+8+1(bard)=AC 18, damage 1d8+6=12.

Finally, my saving throw: 5... Still slow.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

I think I got missed in the scrum - I act before Sefra.

No move. I attack Bandit 5 with Piercing smite. Attack roll 11+8+1=AC 20, damage 2d8+4=15. I then challenge Bandit 6. Finally - the save to end the slow effect: 7. Nope.

Marc.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

First, I mark Bandit 5. I then slowly shuffle to W11 before attacking him with Tide of iron. Attack roll 20!+8+1(song of courage)=AC29, confirm roll 9+8+1=AC 18. Damage 8+3+1d12=19. Tide of iron lets me move the target one square and then shift into his old position, so Bandit 5 is now in Y11 and I'm in X12.

Finally, my saving throw: 4. I'm still slowed.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

I'm in V13.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Initiative 11+1=12.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Let's keep going west. We... I.... It might not be a good idea to cross the river again until we've killed the Stag Lord." Heimoth tries to conceal his nervousness, but does a poor job at it. "And west is probably the most direct route to him and his bandits."

D24 it is!

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Hasren's right." Heimoth gives his shoulders a self-effacing shrug. "The high and mighty in their stone castles don't let the people in the field in on their long-term plans. Myself, I always thought they would use the surveys to establish a trade route going south to Kyonin and maybe Galt. To do that, they would need some sort of compact with the Nomen, so it was a good thing you found us."

Diplomacy Aid Another for Hasren 8+10+4=22.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Initial Insight check 11+10=21.

Heimoth initially ignores the two prowling centaurs and concentrates on the spokesman, deciding to keep the tone friendly but serious. "Not everyone that speaks Elven dwells in the forest; my mother, for example, is something of a city elf. And as my friend Hasren here can testify to, human-elven relationships are far from uncommon. Just look at our group: two humans, two elves, and a pair of half-elves, traveling the lands of men and elves, and now, those of the centaurs."

Second Insight check 12+10=22. History check 9+0=9. Thanks, INT 9...

Uh oh. His good mood abruptly vanishes and is replaced by despair as Terra stomps all over his attempts at diplomacy. "Ah, amusing? Please do not be offended - I don't think any of us have ever seen a centaur before, much less four."

Can I roll an extra Diplomacy check to calm the centaurs down again? If so, the result is 11+10+4=25.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

My passive Insight skill is 20. In case this calls for an active check, the result is 12+10=22.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Good afternoon!" Heimoth puts on his friendliest face as he answers the centaur in Elven. "We certainly did not intend to cause any inconvenience or offence, and we are terribly sorry if we did so. We are hunting human bandits. You wouldn't perhaps have heard of a man who calls himself the Stag Lord?"

Diplomacy 13+10+4(Astral speech daily power - it lasts for the encounter)=27.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Don't make any slurping noises while we talk to the horse-men, willya? No need to catch any more trouble out here than we really need to."

We pull a bit back towards the cliff, and then Hasren and I turn back towards the centaurs. Together we make a pretty formidable Diplomacy team - and we're tough enough to survive a couple of rounds on our own if things turn really sour...

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"I'll be happy to chat a bit with 'em. Of course, it won't hurt to do it from a defensible position..."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"How many are there of them?"

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

One vote for exploring this side of the river. BTW, here is the map again. Are we now by Crooked Falls (location #30)?

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Know (dungeoneering) 18+3=21. Know (nature) 3+3=6. Perception 5+3=8. Odd rolls, those...

"Heh. That's a manticore skull, if I'm not mistaken. Who would have left that here?"

So many horrible jokes... However, I won't sink quite that far. At least not yet.

"My nightvision is OK. I'll take a mid-night watch."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

*loud guffaw*

"So, maybe we wouldn't have had to fight them if... Nah, let's not go there."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Rotten Pool Cave sounds about right. With a bit of cleaning, though, it'll make for a great forward base for scouting."

Aid Another for Terra 11+3=14.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

I took the shield. If anyone else wants it they'll have to fight me for it.

"I'll take first watch. Is there any boar left? I think we deserve some boar chops after that fight..."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Huzzah! As a heavy shield user, I'm very interested in the Bashing shield. Does it have an AC bonus as well?

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

I have 2318 - I think you missed the 150 exploration XP we got for finding the waterfalls.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Huzzah!

Heimoth extracts himself from the ogre's grip and climbs shakily to his feet. "Hopefully there's not a third one... Let's drag the carcasses outside and dump them in the river. The cave could use a tidying as well before we make camp."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Lay on hands on myself, restoring 7 hit points. I then smack the ogre with Holy strike again. Attack roll 11 +8=AC 19, damage 1d8+6 =11.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

How does the 'grabbed' condition affect me? Can I still attack the ogre (with some penalties), or do I need to break the hold? Can it attack any other PCs while holding me?

Hasren!

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Wow. That was rather cool.

"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!"

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

First, I mark the ogre. I then move to O7 before smacking it with Paladin's judgement. Attack roll 12+8=AC 20, damage 3d8+4=20. In addition, one ally withing 5 squares can use a healing surge, even if I missed.

Sefra.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Ouch! I'll get Aleph up and running on my turn.

BTW, did I spend my action point last turn, or did I take down Ogre 1 with my first attack?

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Everybody get behind me! We'll present the giant with a unified front, rather than let it attack us at its leisure."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

The map's off a bit - after Hasren's Majestic word, I'm in W10.

Seeing that the ogre is distracted by the swarm of insects, Heimoth cuts into its vulnerable legs.

The ogre is already marked, so I'm attacking with Holy strike. Attack roll 11+8+2(flank/combat advantage)=AC 21, damage 1d8+6=13. If the ogre's still standing, I'll use my action point and attack it again: 10+8+2=AC 20, damage 12. If it falls, I then move to S8; if not, I stay put.

Hasren Gunnarrsson wrote:

Minor action - Assuming Hasren makes it to R9, he utters a Majestic Word & Heimoth can spend a surge to heal a surge+3 HPs & slide one square. I was thinking W10, but feel free to pick on that suits your plans better.

W10 looks good; also, I'll take that healing surge. I've updated my damage total.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

The ogre takes 5 points of radiant damage. Fortunately, the other ogre missed Hasren all four times. Huzzah!

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Hey! Come pick on somebody your own size, you... um, jerk! Come here and face me like a real man, you big dummy!"

Single action only, so I'll use my challenge power on the big lug. He takes a -2 penalty to attack anyone but me, as well as some damage if he targets anyone else.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Boooh! Oh well, I guess I'll just challenge him/her/it on my turn. That will affect his attack rolls as well.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Fortunately, only the second attack hit. Can I attack on my turn again even though I'm dazed?

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Have at thee, giant!"

Charge to X9 before attacking the ogre with Piercing smite. Attack roll 8+8+2(charge)=18 vs. REFLEX. Damage 2d8+4=14.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Q9. Initiative 12+1=13.

"Hah! Tea or death, giant! ... Aw, to hell with it. Death it is."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Let get going. And, hey, it might be a nice ogre. Maybe he'll offer us tea and crumpets." Heimoth hefts his sword and shield, clearly doubtful of the ogre's hospitality.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Perception Aid Another 9+3=12.

"Well, it can't possibly be any smaller, so... Should I go in first?"

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

"Won't running for the high ground just get us hit by lightning?" Heimoth nervously eyes his heavy armour. "We should wait it out underneath big tree, unless we can find a cave."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Nature Aid Another for Terra's foraging check 9+3=12.

"Nice. I could get used to this."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Nature Aid Another for Terra's foraging check 11+3=14.

"Maybe we can catch some fish here? A change from dried meat and grass soup would be nice."

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Nature check for navigation: 12+3=15. Nature check for foraging 10+3=13.

Male Half-elf Paladin 3

Aid Another for Terra's Nature heck: 9+3=12. Success!

"Yum! I found some nettles!"
