Once the scouts report it's clear, Harland lays a last sweeping gaze upon the outside. If he doesn't see anything hostile, he then also enters the tower.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

"Gah" Harland almost lets his gun drop as the waves of burning air hit him. Yet after a moment he manages to catch himself and fire another shot at the small creature. 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Fire at D21 if still alive, otherwise target the big one, 73 cartridges left

Well, shit happens.

Why is the monster stunned? Shouldn't it "just" be dazed, thus not loose any AC or be flatfooted (aka no sneak attack)? Azana at some point somehow changed from saying "dazed" to saying "stunned", but as far as I know he's just using Dazing Spell Metamagic on Snapdragon Firework.
Is it possible that you misread the fireworks normal dazzled condition as to be dazed and then later mixed it up again with stunned? Though going from dazzled to dazed to stunned would itself be quite a feat.^^

Does Harland recognize the misfire (as a player, the 2 lets me assume it was that)? Does he notice where it came from (seems to be quite far, with a -6)? intuition: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 Hearing the shot Harland flinches and momentarily looks at the muzzle of his musket, half expecting that something just went wrong with it.

Harland cleans his already gleaming musket one more time, careful to keep all the mud and water out of the muzzle. Damned swamp, I don't dare to think what happens if something gets in... He then gazed over the colossal complex once again, nervously looking for movement. He audibly exhales.

Yes, I already calculate with half cost. 40 shot are still 240 gold.
The problem is just that we start with not much more than the starting gold of level 3 (when one usually has only 1 attack, cutting the spending by a lot) AND seemingly can't really resupply for a few level. It also does not HAVE to become a problem (afteral I have no idea how many shots I'll fire), its just something I want to clear up beforehand.

Hmm, as a ranged character I'm currently slightly worried to run out of ammunition if the temple goes on for to long to be then stuck completely useless.
As I said in the beginning, it would be probably most fitting the concept to make the wish have something to do with the firearm, though just granting him one doesn't really make that much sense. And I'm not completely sure how big the wish is supposed to be mechanically/ compared to the downside. Maybe wish something like "I wish for a working firearm that never misfires or explodes uncontrollably, harming innocent."?
Sorry to only post now, my laptop (or rather the windows installation) broke down yesterday morning and it took some time to get it running again.
backstory: Harland is the youngest son of the minor noble house Hareshunt, though by now formerly noble would probably be a more fitting description. While Harland himself was off to the academy for the last few years, being trained as a wizard and officer, his father committed himself ever deeper in the war. His house always was rather strongly associated with the Icathian military, the younger sons usually serving at least for a few years if not for all their life, this time they would pay a great cost for their loyalty. While the countries coffers drained ever faster the government asked for ever more help from the noble houses, draining their coffers too and forcing them to press money out of their subjects. Most nobles at some point just reduced payment, but Harlands father was devote. He forced every last penny out of his peasants and even send a good dozen soldiers, almost all he had, to support the war effort. Starvation and hardship took root in Harlands small hometown and one day not so long ago the people had enough. They rioted, burned the small, mostly unprotected castle to the ground and killed every last Harehunt they could find, which was almost all of them. When Harland returned home after his training, all he found were smoldering ruins and a town which, while the rage had waned, didn't want to hear anything about nobility anymore, now being proudly ruled by a Council of Citizen and all. All that remained of his nobility now was a worthless name and his fathers signet ring, saved and returned to him by the old miller, one of his fathers last loyal subjects. With nowhere else to got Harland sought to continue his career as an officer, only to find that the Military had largely dissolved and need for penniless, inexperienced noble officers was at an all time low. But he also heard that the former Royal Guard turned mercenary after loosing their employer and he is thus now trying to swear allegiance to them.
